Favre Hasn’t Spoken to Aaron Rodgers in a Year

by Bassett on January 30th, 2009 at 3:11 pm

Our blogging brethren over at OutSports.com were kind enough to send us their transciption of an interview that Aaron Rodgers did for Michael “Stabby” Irvin’s Show this week.

In brief, Irvin and his co-host, cajole Rodgers into talking about his relationship with Favre. Rodgers notes that it was good up until the championship game last season and then it’s been non-existant since that point. Here’s an excerpt.

Irvin: [On why Rodgers and Favre haven't talked] Why will you not reach out to him?

Rodgers: I did.

Irvin: So you called him and he did not call you back.

Rodgers: Yeah.

Kiley: … I can see Aaron is struggling with this, and if this was television you could see he’s uncomfortable with these questions…. Was he popular on the team, there were reports that he was a little separate from the team, did you feel that when you guys were making that run for the NFC title, that he was separate from the other players?

Rodgers: I really don’t want to go into that.

There’s a reference to Swingers in here somewhere … but I can’t seem to chisel it out of it’s raw form.

Rodgers is trying to avoid being catty, which most anyone can appreciate, but there’s times that non-answers are the same as answers … and this is one of those times. It’s clear that Rodgers is not going to say much about his former teammate or what his teammates think of him. I don’t think that we’re surprised to see any of this, but it does help to triangulate the current situation for how Jets players could feel about their Quarterback.

I am setting the Over/Under on Favre’s repudiation of this news as 3.5 days … long enough for Peter King to get his Monday Column out.

Favre is out in the middle of the woods coated in deer urine, hangin out in a tree stand huntin him some game. Probably passin the time by coloring in the circles in Mangini’s play-book and counting Woody’s $.

I’ll admit I was ready to see a new QB but I was never happy with Favre. This guy is Barry Bonds-ish in that everywhere he goes the circus will follow.

    We need new blood….

Does this matter? I don’t think Favre’s relationship with Rodgers is likely to have any bearing on the upcoming season.

I wonder how many times Chad Pennington has spoken to Kellen Clemens since he was cut.

Who cares? Really, are we going to judge Favre on whether he’s spoken to Aaron Rodgers. Come on.

    C”mon Guys :

Doesn’t anybody think it is common decency to return calls from your own peers?

And what does anything have to do with Pennington here? C’mon Guys !!

Good Gosh is Rodgers pathetic. Runs down to Tampa to ball his little eyes out that Favre never called him. Favre was too busy laughing his @#$ off at the Packers going 6-10 without him! Rodgers needs to sack up and shut up till he wins some games on his own.

Scary. This isn’t some alternative lifestyle site too is it?

  10. avatar Bent says:

Hank, that’s kind of my point. Whether Pennington has talked to Clemens is completely irrelevant and nobody would be interested in such a story, so why isn’t whether Favre to talked Rodgers irrelevant too? This media circus surrounding Favre is too much.

And, yes, it would have been common courtesy to have returned the calls, but we know it wasn’t a pleasant breakup with the Packers and I’m sure he is in high demand. Either way, I can’t see how it will affect the Jets, especially if Favre is not a Jet next season.

I’m somewhat confused by tour comment that ” Whether Pennington has talked to Clemens is completely irrelevant and nobody would be interested in such a story, so why isn’t whether Favre to talked Rodgers irrelevant too? This media circus surrounding Favre is too much ”
The first part I totally agree that Pennington is completely irrevelant in this story. So why even bring it up? The part about Farve IS the story and contradicts the description of this guy’s make-up (person if you will) to the one we have been forced upon since he hijacked our team.
And the last part about ” the media circus surrounding Farve is too much ” I trully believe he loves it otherwise why would he have created it nationally during his two plus months of retirement, no retirement fiasco?

And lastly, I hate to say it Bent, you are a Farve worshiper.

    Hank,

We’ve been over this. You must have a very short memory.

In this particular thread I wasn’t even attempting to stick up for Favre, I was just basically saying who cares? Where do you get some of these ideas?
