Boss Throws His Junk In America’s Face

by Bassett on February 2nd, 2009 at 10:06 am

For as great as the game was last night, I think most people will be talking about this today …

Middle-aged male sportscasters (is it a rule that you have to love Springsteen to be an on-air talent at ESPN?) everywhere held their breath last night when Jersey’s own Bruce Springsteen overshot the runway on a rock’n'roll powerslide.

It was an amusing moment, and the fact that the boss was smiling seemed to indicate that his landing gear wasn’t damaged on impact.

UPDATE: Here’s an animated GIF of it too, via KSK.

I loved the half-time show. It wasn’t real springsteen. Come on, what do you expect from a SB performance beside glitz and glamour. It was Springstee goes to Vegas. lol.

I agree. I do not support his socialist agenda but love his musical spirit. It was a great show and NBC was incredible throughout the show and the game. Great, SUPER GREAT 5 hours !!!

lol. Hank. Socialist agenda? Where do you guys come from with this? The guys write songs and advocates the rights of working class people and immigrants – probably most of the people on this blog, and you call that a socialist agenda? Dag. What are you, like rich or something?

Honestly, I hated the halftime show. I’m sick of these geriatric rockers being wheeled out to strut their stuff like they are 20. From the beginning when Bruce was screming at the crowd to put down their wings, to the redefined term “rock” slide shown above, to the end of the set when Bruce and Stevie talked about running long with a “referee” coming out to throw a delay of game flag, it was all amateurish. I thought Bruce’s performance was flat, especially on Born to Run, where he was essentially screaming because he can’t sing that song like he used to.

Let’s see, we’ve had in the last few years (since the wardrobe malfunction), Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Prince, Tom Petty and now Bruce Springsteen. Except for Prince, they are all great stars, but their halftime shows were “safe” and as a result flat. Give me any of those artists 20 years ago and I would have loved the halftime shows. I’m not a big fan of Prince, but he’s at least more contemporary than the others and the performance was good even if I don’t like his music.

I’m not asking for Britney Spears, Green Day, Linkin Park or Justin Timberlake, but I would like to see some younger performers on the stage. I’m 33, so I’m not that young, but I’d like to see some more lively performances.

Prince is not a big star? WHo doesn’t like Prince?

  7. avatar sjfalcon2001 says:

    Igs,

Prince is a big star. I meant that Prince was not safe as an artist like the others were and at least he had a good performance. I wasn’t disrespecting Prince’s star status, If you read my comments more carefully, you will see the difference.

And yes, I don’t like Prince, or whatever he is calling himself these days. That symbol thing made it very hard for me as a radio announcer when I had to play one of his songs…

When are we going to get some Metallica at the Half Time show? At this rate we will need to wait untl they are all in AARP.

The halftime show was fine….I am not a Bruce fan but his slide into the camera did give every ridiulous Bruce fan a chance to blow him…..even if it was just for a quick second.

sjfalcon – i must have been watching a different halftime show.

i thought it was electric and very high energy. bruce seems to be 59 going on 29. you obviously have not been to one of his shows – he regularly cranks out 3.5 hour, 25 song setlists. i was at the metallica concert saturday night at the pru-center and those guys cant hold a candle to the boss.

i liked him poking fun at himself and acting stupid. if people cant see the humor in that, they need to loosen up. it is the superbowl, not a funeral – everything about the game is over-the-top.

Ithink they should do away with the long half time shows. The teams do not need the extra time in the lockere room and who wants to watch old screaming has beens anyway.

  13. avatar Razor Shines says:

lol at Bruce being wheeled out to do a 12 minute gig when he regularly does three hour shows with the same energy. You sure did a lot of typing to complain about something you have no idea about.

    I do not like Prince

  15. avatar Igs says:

lol. I don’t particularly like Metallica. Why the hell are we arguing about musical tasts?? lol.

  16. avatar Jeff says:

Lets get Ozzy Osbourne to sing crazy train while he can still talk “indeciphrebly” of course

  17. avatar LMP23 says:

I thought it looked like he was having fun ou there.

Worst halftime show ever… I want janet back… no for real that show was horrible… you couldnt even hear half the words coming out of his mouth… i was watching thought it was so bad i turned the TV off then realized that i was watching the Super Bowl and turned it back on.. The only good part about the whole thing was the girl in the begining with the red shirt and the huge knockers… did anybody else catch that??

  19. avatar Jet_the_dog says:

What we need is a Jay-Z and some younger rock band halftime show… like greenday or something like that..
