Jets Hire Matt Cavanaugh

The Pittsburgh Post Gazzette is reporting that the Jets have hired Matt Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh was on the Ravens as the Offensive Coordinator until 2004 when he left for Pitt to work with Dave Wannstadt.

Although the article just notes he’ll be an “offensive assistant,” it’s my assumption he’ll be named the QB Coach … as he was one himself from 1979-1991 in the NFL for the Niners, Bears, Eagles and Giants.

Tip o’ the cap to Bill J. for sending this on …

  1. I remember him on that ‘90 Giants team. Was he involved in a trick play or something? They were always faking punts and stuff.

  2. nice find–i’ve been wondering about the qb coach. though given his track record as OC in balt, i’m not sure that he’s the man to teach young QB’s. still, i think it’s good to have some former nfl players on the staff to relate to the current players. and ellard and cavanaugh do the trick nicely on the offensive side.

  3. but he did such a good job with kyle bol …. oh … i get it …
