I called for any readers of the blog to give us some of their thoughts about this team, and thanks to those of you who responded. Benjamin Baer wanted to write about what it’s like living as a young, already jaded Jets fan. I had to post what he wrote in his first email to me ” I feel like I can reach out to some of the younger Jet fans and not just guys in their 30s.”
Hmm …
Bassett’s To Do List: Start watching crap like “The Hills” …
Thanks Ben for the post, and for calling me old!
Murphy’s Law, “Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.”
This is what it’s like to be a Jet fan. Anytime you get your hopes up, Gang Green will bring them down. I guess that’s a little too pessimistic but that’s what being a Jet fan is like for me … and I’m only 19 years old!! For all you older folks, you at least had your day of glory … I never got to see Namath, Maynard, or the Sack Exchange.
My first real recollection was the 1998 playoff game against the Jaguars. I was sitting in the back row of the first tier. I couldn’t see anything so my dad perched me on top of the ledge so I can watch the tv right over us. Even though I could rarely see the plays on the field I could feel the excitement in the stadium. I felt the same excitement in the ’02 playoff game against the Colts. This game was one of the shining moments in Jets history but was soon forgotten due to another playoff loss to the Raiders. I suppose the beginning of my pessimism was the 1999 opener when Testaverde went down. Like many, I was expecting a championship that year. The ’04 divisional game brought it all down for me but instead of playing to win the game Herm decided to be conservative and rest it all on Doug Brien’s shoulders (not a good idea). We had that game in our hands but we couldn’t get it done.
When the Jets were 8-3 this season I decided not to get my hopes too high because my teams have a history of falling apart (I’m a Met fan also). When it happened, I still was heartbroken by the sheer fact that we couldn’t beat below average teams when we needed to. I know I sound like Debbie Downer but that doesn’t mean I’m not a huge Jet fan. I’ve always been a Jet fan and always will be. I follow them day in and day out, I live and breathe Green and White. After the Mets and Jets collapses of this season people told me I should switch teams. I could never do that even after almost 20 years of 0 championships, I have too much history with them. Many kids of my generation have yet to experience glory but I guarantee you this will not last another 20 years.

This season marked my 10th year as a Jets fan (out of 20 years.) The first season I followed was the incredible run in 1998. I’m not a Mets fan, but my father is, so I see them break his heart every September.
As much as it sucks to watch an old man QB utterly collapse down the stretch, there’s a lot of teams worse off than us. And as much as it sucks that every time we played one of those teams, they beat us (except the second Buffalo game, where they F-ed it up inside the 2 minute warning. We got lucky there), we do have things to look forward to.
We have two awesome running backs, including the man who led the AFC in rushing yards. We ALSO have the smartest RB in the game right now. We’ve also got the offensive line that made them that way. (We’ve also got a new coach, who, God willing, will remind Schottenheimer that you can run the ball.)
We’ve got two fairly well established wideouts (for next season, either Cotchery or Coles, but not both, plus Stuckey) and Clowney, who is developing into the next Wayne Chrebet.
We also have statistically the best QB ever to pick up a football. Hopefully we get rid of him. Because goddamn, that was a collapse and a half. Clemens is competent, but developed fast when he had to start in place of Pennington; hell, Ratliff or Ainge could surprise us all in the pre-season.
On the other side of the ball, we’ve got the players too, we just need to have them execute the right plays and be more aggressive. (A head coach who isn’t trying to be Bill Belichick could help here.)
Anyway, I wasn’t born yet when Joe Klecko was exchanging sacks with Lyons and Mark Gastineau. I didn’t see Namath play in Super Bowl III. But I also didn’t see 1-15 in 1996. I didn’t see losing seasons from 1969 until 1981. I didn’t see the Jets pass on Marino. Hell, even with the collapse we were 9-7 this year. The New York Jets have had their best 10 year stretch in their history over the past 10 years. Old timers especially, now is not the time to lose hope.
It could be a lot worse, after all. We could all be Lions fans.
-
I’m 32 and became a jet fan in the late 80′s when I was about 12-13. You younger guys that started watching the team since 98 don’t realize this has been the golden age….LOL…… I became a fan in the late 80′s and those jets were really rough on the heart. The drafts alone were historic in their failure.
-
Hey I’m 19 also and we have very similar memories. Like you I think I repressed all my memories of the early 1990s Jets, though I do vaguely remember them beating the Cards in the fateful 1-15 season though I didn’t realize what a big deal it was at the time that they had won a game (and not gone winless). I don’t remember much about the Jags game, though I think I was there, and I remember my dad telling me about the Jets leading the Denver game at the half. Then I was at the 99 season opener, my first non-December/playoff game (usually I took my grandfather’s ticket in winter when he was in Florida), and thinking I was a bad luck charm since Vinny and a few others (I think Chrebet and Mawae) also got hurt. I too was at the Colts game, along with the Packers game the week before which is still my favorite memory ever of the Jets. And of course there was the 2004 season, where I remember turning off the TV after the Barton penalty, only to hear my dad screaming in the next room a few minutes later when the Chargers missed the FG. I went running into his room and we watched the last drive together.
But despite the bad memories of the Jets over the years (and the ones my dad has filled me in on that I missed) I still agree with jmac and al that I think we have it pretty good, and that I think I’m NOT as jaded and pessimistic as some other Jets fans (esp. my dad) because of my youth.
-
I’m 25. I too never saw the glory and have been lucky enough to see the Fake spike and Naegle. I got beat up for wearing a Keyshawn jersey when we were 1-15. Thank you Cardinals for losing that game. They still get me excited. Nothing is better than a Jet victory. You older guys give me hope that maybe they aren’t stealing years off my life.
-
I’m 26 and the1998 run was what cemented me as a Jets fan. I should therefore be cursing that run every day, but I won’t. There’s been a lot of agita over the years from all the infamous moments that we list here every day. Yet, I’ve also had a lot of good memories. The run in 2002, culminating in Chad destroying Brady, Favre, and Peyton Manning all in succession is one of my favorite sports memories. One of my favorite memories was watching Chad and a hopelessly outgunned team hang in there in a playoff game they had no business competing in against a far superior Patriots team in 2006 through sheer force of will and determination. Even this year, I had one of the worst live sports experiences (Denver), but I also had the best (for me), the Thursday night game in New England. I went to college in Ohio, and every time I feel terrible about the Jets, all I have to do is speak to my friends who are Browns’ season ticket holders. Now there is a franchise that truly has no hope.
-
im 27 and look at it this way. when the big win finally does come – it is going to feel so much sweeter. look at the sox in 2004 – that was the absolute mecca as a sports fan. i bet most of those sox fans wouldnt have traded it for the world. thats how i feel about the jets.
its a sick thing – being a jets/mets fan. but it sort of gives you a chip on your shoulder. sure the giants and yankees have won a lot more often, and certainly have diehard fans, but they also have a lot of bandwagoners – people wearing a brand new hat or jersey. casual jets/mets fans just dont exist – you have to really be committed to subject yourself to this type of torture yourself year in and out.
-
I’m 22. My first year as a Jet fan was 1999, and Testaverde blows out his knee in the first half. It should’ve been a sign to me right there, but I was hooked on the disappointment. I kept being a fan through Ray Lucas (who I thought was underrated), Parcells and Belichick leaving on consecutive days, Al Groh, and the good-but-not-great Herm/Chad era. I have to admit that I got my hopes up at 8-3. Guess that shows I’ve only been a Jet fan for 10 years, but hey, I’m becoming more jaded by the year! In all seriousness, even though this team has repeatedly broken my heart and will likely continue to, I’m addicted for life and would never change allegiances. Here’s hoping Rex is the saviour!
-
Vent guys vent. I was going to post some of the same thoughts but it started to feel like substence abuse program.LOL. Can we just plaese put it together for 1 more superbowl run.I really think we will, and soon.

amen im 21 good write up

another line in the sand between joung/old jets fans is who you consider to be the jets main rival / the team you hate most.
i believe older fans would say the dolphins whereas younger fans would say the patriots.
i remember the fake spike. i remember the dolphins being good under marino and him picking us apart. but nothing compares to the hate i have built for the pats over the last decade.
once the ravens locked up their week 17 game, i switched mangold to pennington jersey and started rooting hard for the dolphins. at that point, it was meaningless for the jets – i wanted it for chad and more importantly, i wanted to screw the pats. it was the most fun i had during the last 5 weeks of the season.
-
This does feel like rehab or something. Hi guys. I’m 22. Been a Jets fan since 1997. Had my heart broken first during that Lions game where all we needed to do was win and get into the playoffs. Instead we had Barry Sanders run for like 200 yards on us and we lost. 1998 was great. Dont remember it as much. And somehow I ended up missing the second half of that Broncos game. Guess that was good for me. 2004 was fun, but I still lose sleep over that Doug Brien game… sigh. Our day will come. Lets hope Rex can be the man to get it done.
-
All together now…HI RICH !!!!
LOL
-
I’m a Pats fan, and I read Jets news because it makes me laugh. I’m reading your comments and I wonder how on Earth the Jets can still have fans. I mean cmon, since 2001 the Pats are 16-3 vs you guys.
-
Like many guys on the blog I’m in my mid 50’s and remember the day #12 was drafted.
The bad news for you guys is I’m a runner and in very good shape, I will live till 90 plus (based on family history), the Jets will win 3 straight SB’s the year AFTER I DIE. The good news, you’ll be in your 60’s and have money to go to all 3.
Looking forward to the next 40 years blogging with you.
-
My name is Ken, I’m 32 and I am a jet fan… I have come to the realization that the Jets will never make it to the superbowl despite having the feeling that EVERY year is THE YEAR. Just when you think that a team exhausts a way to tank a season, the Jets remind me that there is no quit in coming up with new and creative ways to implode a season. Go Jets!
-
I’m 26 and have been a Jet fan since I was about 13 or 14. I remember the fake spike but it wasn’t until Kotite was coach that I started watching the games week in and week out. Great time to start, huh. I followed my dad who has been a fan since Joe Willie was drafted.
The 98 season stands out so much in my mind, I could probably tell you the score of every game that year. That was amazing especially after the previous several years. That Denver game broke my heart but I only looked forward to the next season that much more.
My fondest memory is the final game in 2002 against GB. I was at the game. It was an amazing atmosphere. The only other time I may have been that pumped up was after beating Tenn this year…and we all know how that ended.
Yet I don’t think I am that jaded. I still get my hopes up every year and each loss we suffer hurts more than the last. I thought the way this year ended would really do it for me. After the Seattle game, I considered not watching football anymore altogether. But after hearing Rex’s press conference, all I could say is 5 MONTHS AND COUNTING UNTIL TRAINING CAMP!!!
When our time finally comes, it will feel so sweet and will make all we went through completely worth it. Don’t lose hope Jet fans.

Chris -
Because unlike Pats fans who didn’t start pretending to like their team until 2001, we stick with our team through thick and thin. It’s lame to just jump on and off a bandwagon like Pats “fans”. We’ll take our heartbreak, because it’ll feel a million times better when we do get there than it does for bandwagon fairweather Cheatriot douches who have no idea that the Pats were the laughingstock of the league for a long time too.
-
judging by the name i post by, me and this guy think a lot alike and we are also around the same age.
-
Chris, thats something you should’ve picked up as you read our comments…the fact that we keep coming back year after year, that’s what makes you a fan. You stick by your team every game every season…no matter the pain.
I’m 22, and my stories are right along everyone here. I remember Rich Kotite, Glen Foley, Rick Mirer, and I remember the potential salvation Parcells was going to bring us…he did rebuild this franchise, no question, and also delivered us one of the greatest NFL players in history, player and person. (Curtis “my favorite” Martin)
And just like you Ben, I too, am a Mets fan, and our 2 recent collapses enabled us to absorb the Jets disastrous fall in 2008. It don’t make it easy…but one thing you learn as a fan….there’s always next year…and 2009 is here.
-
Boy am I glad I’m not a Mets fan. I think the combination of those two teams the past couple of years would’ve killed me. Thank god I’m a……. Yankees fan (Don’t kill me guys…).
-
I want to welcome Rich too, but I’m 56 and the “original Rich,” posting and reading for a few years now. I also remember the day #12 was drafted. That’s what made me a Jet fan. I may change my posting name to something more complex. Maybe “Old Rich?” Older Jet fans rule!
-
I’m 29 and I’ve been a hardcore football fan since I was 13. I love the Jets. But I feel like I’m tired of seeing the same old thing… mediocrity. The height of Jet accomplishment that I’ve been able to experience is the 98 conference loss.
I’ve seen coaches come and go. Players come and go. But I’ve seen the same patterns that foster losing persist in the front office. Inefficiency with picks. Terrible player development, and terrible trades, just to name a few.
But I refuse to accept less from this team than I see in the successful NFL franchises. Before I accept these losing ways as the same ol’ jets culture, I’d rather just turn my back on the team. Because you play to win the game. And you manage to win the game. And you deal to win the game. And the Jets just haven’t been doing that. And anything less than that is unacceptable. I am hoping that Rex can bring some winning culture to this franchise. And get that 2 headed monster in the front office finally under control.
I will always stick with my team. But that doesn’t mean I will accept anything less than winning ways.
-
Igs,
I kinda believe in Woody. Yes, he is a business man, and he wants to be able to sell his stadium…but I think he does want to win. Just watching him in that amateur video in the tunnels of Foxboro after we beat the Pats in OT…he was pumped…he was really pumped. He wasn’t thinking dollar signs, he was thinking, man my team just beat our rivals in their home stadium…he was a football fan.
I think him bringing in favre was a part business decision (it was very profitable) but also, he was tired of losing the big game and he thought that why not get the best QB (statistically) ever to play on my team…maybe he can carry us in the playoffs.
It didn’t work out…but It was a risk…and it was risk taken in the hopes of winning.
-
OK you whippersnappers. If you are a fane since ’98, you have ssen the good years. This is probably the most succesful 10 year stretch the team has ever had. You guys missed the Kotite years and Joe Walton, and Lou Holtz and Gastinue taking that stupid roughing the passer penalty in Cleveland and him booting the fumble down the field and the mud game agaisnt AJ Duhe and Miami. How about the fake spike. These were the years they had a chance, just as often they were awful and completely non-competivie, with Browning Nagle, Frank Reich and Ken O’Brien being knocked unconscious every week.
I am a 40 yr. old Mets, Jets, Knicks and Islander fan. It has been 23 years since any of my teams won a championship. That’s longer than all of the posters. Now that the Phillies won, there is no city that has teams in the 4 major sports league that has gone this long without a championship.
I don’t know why i keep putting myself through this.
All vented out now. -
Evan,
Personally, like I said, I love this team, but I’m tired the mediocrity. I’m looking at the intangibles, the numbers. That’s all. The personnel decisions have been atrocious over the years. (And Tanny’s been a little better than Bradway, but not much.) The Mangini pickup was a horrible reach. Drafts. The Favre and Faneca situations. I mean these guys gotta give us more. Don’t make excuses for them Evan. They need to step their game up. Bottom line. I’m tired of being optomistic and getting let down. I’m Mr. Negative about the whole situation until the Jets front office steps their game up!
-
No one listen to lgs. The Jets aren’t “his team”. He roots for the Giants too.
-
Adam, you’re gonna make me jump off a building. These may have been good years in comparison. But all in all, when it’s been this long, it’s the sam old s***
-
Lol. Joe, what’re you like, 12 years old or something?
-
Alright! The New York Jets good years! Vinny’s achilles exploding, Al Groh, Pennington’s injuries, Herm Edwards clock management, Doug Brien, two 4-12 seasons, getting blown out by the Pats in the playoffs, and the Favre collapse. Why am I a fan of this team again?
Oh and sorry Old Rich for taking your name…
-
lgs -
You root for two teams, and I’m the immature one? I’m not trying to hate on you, I’m just saying, it rings pretty hollow when you’re comiserating with real Jet fans, even though you root for another team and that one just won the Super Bowl.
-
lol. Joe, that’s exactly what you’re doing. Hating.
The point of this blog, I believe, was for fans to post their testimonials about the teams losing ways and prospects for the future. How did I get to be the subject of your tirades?
If I make a point and you disagree with it, than post your disagreement. Don’t waste your time hating on me. This aint a hate on Igs blog. Lol.
But I like it when you hate. Because obviously, I’m on your mind more than this team.
-
Nah, you’re a nobody to me, and I usually skip your posts because of your two-team nonsense. I just wanted other people to know why I skip your posts. Because your “I live and die with the Jets!” routine is phony. I’m sorry both of your teams couldn’t win Super Bowls quickly enough for you, but some of us have only the Jets.
-
lmao. Joe, you’re the biggest loser. The real loser is the fan that accepts mediocrity. You’ve yet to challenge any of my points about the Jets. lol.
Keep up the good hate buddy. It’ll change a lot about this team. -
lgs -
Because clearly if I object to you whining about one of your two teams not winning, it means that I accept mediocrity from the Jets. Well done.
*sigh* carry on pretending you’re a Jet fan dude.
-
Anyways…
Igs,
I liked the Faneca pick up…You can’t tell me he didn’t have an impact on D’Brick and Mangold though…Brick showed huge improvement from 2007 to 2008. LT is paid to pass block and he did that very well. Faneca himself had a decent season, a few bad penalties against, but we brought him in to be an effective LG AND to mentor Mangold and Brick, which I think he did quite well.Favre was a reach…we shot for the moon and fell short..but I was on board with the move from day one….it just didnt work out. thats it.
And Tanny has drafted very well the past few seasons. (Revis, Lowery, Harris, Keller, and two cornerstone lineman in one round)
The book is still out on Gholston.
-
im 19 and have been a jets fan since 98 my dad has had season tickets since the mid 80′s, i started going in 98 that season was addictive for me there wasnt a time where i wasnt talking about the jets. lokking back on that denver game being up 10-0 at half was amazing…and then elway brought them back and broke my heart. the first game of 99 where vinny went down with the achilles injury was terrible, i dont remember much more about that season though. then came parcells and bellicheck leaving on consecutive days. 2002 run was great being at both the packers and colts game, listening to the croud roar when we found out that pats had lost and then chad went and played his heart out against packers. colts game was good also(blowout). 04 run was great. seeing barton rouggh brees on that play was a crusher but when naeding choked it made it all better. but i still wish that doug brien should have been publicly lynched after that horrible performance against the steelers. and finally last year beating the titans was good but that awesome win over the pats was better. and then being at the denver game was when i realized here it comes ,the collapse. no further comment on this past year.
i do think that we should take favre back though for one more year only cause i dont have faith in clemens and i am very high on ratliff i still think that he should learn for one more year before he is ready to become a starter. RELEASE AINGE THE GUY IS TERRIBLE THERE IS A REASON HE DIDNT GET AN PT DURING PRE SEASON.
i do agree with brian 311 though. once it comes it is gonna be SWEET
-
I’m 44, so I’m an “old” Jets/Mets fan. But, unlike you young guys, I treat the teams differently. Sure, the Mets have collapsed the last 2 seasons (but, c’mon, last year who really thought the Mets could make it with that bullpen? It was a tribute to Jerry Manuel and Carlos Delgado that it was even close). But, the Mets have given me two wildly improbable World Series victories and the two WS losses were to the 2000 Yanks and the ’73 A’s…probably two of baseball’s greatest dynasties and, to get to the ’73 series, the Mets beat the fabled Big Red Machine. Also, the 1986 WS win was such a soul-crushing victory over Boston that the halo effect is only now expiring for me. Sure, compared to the Yanks, the Mets aren’t that successful, but there really aren’t a whole lot of teams that have had materially more success than the Mets since 1962.
The Jets, on the other hand, have broken my heart repeatedly. The whole Leon Hess ownership period was a bad dream. No Super Bowl appearance for the Sack Exchange Jets…what a travesty!!! You young guys have no appreciation for how scary good that team was. Only a combination of incompetent coaching and God’s wrath (why did You flood the Orange Bowl? I’m a good person, I didn’t deserve that…) could’ve kept that team from a Super Bowl win.
And, you young guys have it good, since 1997 the Jets have been a competent NFL franchise. The Jets usually have a winning season, and make the playoffs at a clip that has been unprecedented in Jets history. Also, you’ve seen the only 2 AFC East division crowns! So, I’m hopeful because the Hess ownership period is over (to me, Woody is a real breath of fresh air…you younger guys get frustrated with him and Tanny easily…try living through 1987-1996 with this team…just pathetic football) and I really think that Rex is the right guy for the job. We “old” guys all liked (well most of us, at least) Buddy Ryan and wanted him as coach of the Jets, so having his son as coach just seems like good kharma.
-
Yeah, Joe, because nothing makes me happier than to come on the Jets blog and pretend that I’m frustrated about Jets’ 40 years of mediocrity. It just makes my day to walk among you. Lol. what’re you smoking crack?
Evan
You’re right. Don’t get me wrong. I like Faneca. I just think why spend the money when we already had Pete Kendall? That’s not to say that Pete kendall is a s good of a player. But if I have a guy that’s getting the job done, and asking for a little more money. I’m not gonna get rid of him and then pay another old guy that’s a little better tons of money. That’s how the Jets waste players.
I love Faneca as a player, but please, if things are going well in one spot, leave it be and put the money elsewhere.
Tanny has drafted fairly well. He could have drafted better in a lot spots (That’s in my opinion.)
Favre – I waited forever for this team to get a guy that had Chad’s smarts and accuracy, but Vinny’s arm. When I finally get a guy sinilar to that, he’s Brett Favre. It’s bittersweet, you know what I mean?
-
ANd Joe, it’s the fact that you’re whining about me when you should be whining about your team. get off my nuts man. lol. You too grown for all that.
-
Im 16 and have been an acteve fan since around 2004 (although I do rember watching the 98 afc championsip in my basement with my brother).
The one thing ive noticed throughout the years is that there is always promise. In 2004 we were good, 2005 we were SUPPOSED to be good, 2006 we were good, 2007 we were SUPPOSED to be good, and this year we showed plenty of promise.
Point is that being a Jets fan is always entertainig, becuase when we finally start winning, theres nothing better.
-
Well, I’m 27 years old, a girl, and a ridiculously, almost annoying to myself and certainly annoying to others, JETS FAN! Every Sunday I go to my dad’s house (he has the NFL ticket) and we watch the Jets. He says this to me often “I can’t believe you get this mad…can you imagine how I feel? I’ve been dealing with this for 40 years…” (he was 13 the last time they won a Superbowl…but I tell him at least he got to see it) I can’t even imagine. I’ve always been a Jets fan by association, since my entire family is Mets and Jets fans, and all came to Georgia from NY, but for the last 10 years or so I have been die hard! So die hard that I made one of my upstairs bedrooms a Jets room, or a shrine as some call it. To be honest, my obsession annoys me, as it does my husband. He literally can’t watch the games with me…he refuses…he thinks we’re psycho. Anyway, I hope to go to NY sometime next season to see a game. The ONLY Jets game I’ve ever been to was this past game in Tennessee…I sacrificed Christmas, anniversary and birthday presents in order to go to that game…2 tickets and about $1000 later, we won, and it was worth every penny. It felt good to be leaving there a winner! Anyway, must be nice to be a Jets fan and live in New York!!!
-
Fred, give it another 10 years. lol.
But hopefully you came around just in time.
-
lgs -
Yeah, I’m sure those 40 years of mediocrity eat you alive when you’re at the Giants Super Bowl parade in your Eli Manning jersey. LOL.
-
Thats the beauty of NY sports…When my Mets and/or Jets are winning it is amazing…nothing better than watching them play well. Obviously is those exact reasons that make it hurt so much when they play so bad…but winning in NY, nothing compares.
People complain about booing players…and thats whole other arguement, but think of it this way…the players hear the boos, but its a low feeling, but when we’re winning…theres no city that can compare with our intensity. You gotta deal with the boos to be able to enjoy the beauty and power of our cheers.
Same with winning and losing with fans…you deal with the losing, as much as it hurts, because winning in NY, there just isn’t anything like it.
-
LOl. Joe, I’m sure spending all your time knocking me must be helping you to relieve the stress the past season. So if it hopping all over my nuts makes you happy, then enjoy buddy. If anybody has anything to say about the team, then I’m here to talk.
-
Evan -
I agree. The fans and the players have to deal with the lows, because the highs are immeasurable.
-
Well, Igs, You know I’m talking…
interesting point about the Kendall situation. I don’t think they looked far enough ahead to realize that they’d be spending millions more to get a LG back…obviously that shortsighted view is a staple of our franchise(i.e. favre) but i feel like there might have been more than just a few million holding us back on kendall.
I’m really excited about Rex Ryan and the fact that he will be in control of our defensive plays this season. It’ll be fun to see how we approach F.A. and the draft…we have 8 picks, I think, in this draft. Maybe picking up a former Raven D player would help some of our other players transition.
Just imagine if Rex can mold Gholston into a football player…that’d be a huge pick up…you gotta remember he couldn’t attend most of the offseason programs last year.
-
Evan
You’re right. What I’m most excited about with Rex is the element of player development. Players come from college and, for the most part they need to be molded to impact starters of the NFL caliber. Rex brings that. He turned Scott into a star.
He seems like he has the personality as a coach to stand up to Woody and Tanny.
One thing I worry about with him is how much he’ll pay attention to the offense. In Baltimore, offense was an afterthought. And Rex never saw a Superbowl as DC because of it.
-
Damn we suck!!!!!
-
I’m 30…My first Jet game was the 1988 win over the Giants to knock them out of the playoffs.(you must have been devastated lgs…lol) After the Al Toon TD I remember my dad celebrating like we had won the SB…I’ll never forget what he said to me on the way home….”That’s as good as it gets for a Jet fan”…..Hilarious.
The last 10 years have not been that bad actually we did have the great 98 run and the suprised run in 2004…..not a SB but it could be worse
Things are about to change for this franchise. I truly believe that!!
-
JOE B
SO WHAT IF IGS IS A GIANTS FAN I’AM NOT A HUGE GIANTS BUT I’AM A ELI MANNING FAN AND I WHOULD TAKE HIM OVER A 40 YEAR QB AND AM SURE THAT SOME JETS HERE LIKE ELI TO

Lol. Hold on Bent. Don’t be jealous because Drew and Joe are so in love with me, that even though everyone else is talking about the Jets, including me, they feel the need to bring up my name. I didn’t start that argument. Read my first post. Obviously those fellas are very fond of me…

I have to say that Im a jets fan and im 18 years old. I wish i was alive when we won superbowl. I just hope jets can win something before im 40 i mean. If their plan to pull an arizona cardinals then forget it. Why even try. They need to at least make a superbowl. The last time we got to a conference was in 2002. We lost to the raiders. A forty year drought is long enough. I thought it would have been fitting if Joe Namath delievered the trophy to the superbowl 44 champion New York Jets. 41 years after their 16-7 win again the colts. I still hope that will happen hopefully before Joe dies.
I totally agree with this article… if your hopes get up the Jets will bring them crashing down!

No problem Bent. I’ll leave the Giant fan alone. :)
Go Celts tomorrow!

I’m 25 been a Jets fan since about ’94 when my step-dad moved into my mom’s place. So, I’ve had some good and some poor experiences as a Jets fan. However, being a Yankee fan even at the tender young age of six, I can say that things do turn around and better days will come. Hey, at least we get to experience some playoff games and winning seasons. At least we aren’t Bengals fans.

Hey, Bent
I’m allll about the football. Can’t help if my fans are everywhere. Please don’t delete my posts. I don’t come here starting trouble. If you read my posts you’ll see that I started out responding to the subject matter.

jadden hopkins,
I’m sorry, but I CERTAINLY wouldn’t want Eli Manning as the Jets QB. Throughout his career he has struggled alot, and if it werent for one postseason run hed be considered a mediocre QB at best. He did it ONE year in the playoffs. In 05, 06, and 08 Eli was pretty much DREADFUL in the playoffs, and he has never really had a good season. This year he had 21-10 TD ratio whichi s good, but he didnt have many yards, or a good completetion percentage, and it was clear he just doesn’t have that much TALENT passing the ball. I woudln’t call lobbing the ball up to Plax much talent. without Plaxico he looked terrible, and you cant expect Plax to be back next year (although it is possilbe)

Eli’s learning curve is a little longer than Peyton’s. But I think the point is that we need a franchise QB. For once, as a Jets fan, I’d like to not have to worry about the QB position.
! guy that can make things happen. Can stay on the field. Can handle his business…

I’m 37 and have been a jet fan since 80′. I would like to us win a Super Bowl before I turn 50. I would also like to see us cut Eric Mainge before I turn 38 in March. The Sack Exchange was what cemented my being a fan. Al Toon and Wesley Walker, Freeman Mcneal were awesome. I have been on this roller coaster too long to switch teams now, thick or thin Jet fan I will be.

Nicely done, Ben. But whether you’re 19 or 119, we all share the same suffering. Hopefully in this lifetime we’ll see another championship. Lets just hope Eric Mangini’s son isn’t coaching the team.

I feel the same way… I am of the younger generation of Jets fans(17 years old)… I have never experienced any glory with my teams… I am used to collapses. I am also a Mets and Jets fan. So I know how you feel. Even when you don’t get your hopes up it still hurts to see them collapse because no matter how hard you try not to get them up, it is impossible to not have some hope. Hopefully in the near future this team can bring us some glory and not make our hopes come crashing down once again.
