Favre Files Papers

The Daily News is reporting that Brett Favre has already sent in his retirement papers to the league, which could be construed as a stronger statement about what the future holds for Favre.

Either Favre learned his lesson from last year when he didn’t file papers immediately from a PR standpoint, or he’s just that certain about his decision.

Whatever it means, we’re thankful to Favre for not dragging out the process and for making a decision sooner rather than later.

  1. Just means he can start talking to Childress that much sooner and not have to worry about the league looking over his shoulder?
“What he’s just a friend and i’m retired now”

  2. we need to sign/draft another RB.

We need a short yardage back/ big running back

you’ll have t.jones on regualr downs.

washington for occasional runs and passes/screens

the 3rd running back who can power his way for the 1 yard we need. for the most part, t.jones and l washington go down on the first real tackler

  3. If he decided to come back in April, the Jets should just immediately release the guy, avoid the drama for a whole month

  4. the packers owe us a 7th round pk next yr as long as he stays retired until after the draft . if he decides to come back after the draft we can release him and still get the draft pk. fayrve goes to minni and the packers get f***ed

  5. this is to my new man ratliff…………start offseason training right NOW and beat this bum clemmons and take us to the next level….and p.s i definately do NOT want vick here either

  6. You sound like an idiot anyway so nobody cares what you want. Ratliffs a scrub just like eery QB on the roster. We need to really get lucky this offseason and pull a Qb out of somewhere or a .500 season is probably on its way.

  7. And barben i have not once in my lifetime seen leon washington get taken down by the first tackler.

  8. For all you KC haters, remember he was suppose to be a middle 1st rounder if not for his injury, and he is the only guy in our roster with starting experience, and all you guys who use the argument about how much KC sucked in preseason, well what about Cassal, and I ca ngive you a million guys who where near perfect in the preseason, but sucked balls in the regular season

Don’t get me wrong I’m a Ratliff fan, but don’t be surprised if KC wins the battle and takes us to the playoffs

  9. hey RJ go #$@% yourself how’s that tough guy!

  10. kellen impressed me in the baltimore game but thats about it nyckage

  11. wow dude. nice? Theres a jetsblog for kids im sure somewhere sooo goodbye. KC looks like Ryan Leaf in the pocket. Ive never seen someone so nervous and flustered in my lifetime. If he wants to lead this team he needs to wakeup. I hope someone steps up.

  12. Barben, I absolutely agree……A Leron McClain type of running to be a complement for Jones/Leon. This team is going to be a physical, running team with timely first downs. We are going to turn into the 2008 Baltimore Ravens because of our coach, defense and QB play.

And Matt Cassel would be a terrible move for this organization. The last thing we need is another QB with no arm starting for us. Lets ride it our with KC and Ratliff and see what we have. They have been in our system with Schotty and know the playbook. Move motions and shifts and Shotty can be judged this year by his playcalling.

And now we are players in FA. This could be good for the Jets

  13. RJ, Ratliff is a scrub?? How can u call someone a scrub when he hasn’t even taken a snap in the NFL Regular Season. Thats like when Jet fans get on Vernon Gholston. Gholston hasn’t been around for more than a year and everyone says he is a bust? Give this guy some time to play the game then call him a bust. Ryan Leaf = bust…thats a bust

  14. John L, if McCareins would have caught that TD pass in the Baltimore game, then he probably would have been looked at better. I’m going for Ratliff to lead this team for 2009 just because he looks like he has a good head on his shoulders like a Flacco. ANy thoughts on Ratliff vs. Clemens.

  15. I think Gholston can be a good player. And will be with rex’s defensive system. He hasnt taken an nfl snap for a reason. he wasnt even the backup for a reason. he was 3rd string for a reason. If you guys really think ratliff or clem can run this team you need to seriously think about that for a second. Not just because you would defend every jet on the roster to your death like we all would, but face reality jets dont have a franchise qb on there roster. end of story. we all know it

  16. All in all though. Ratliff way in front of clemens. i cant stand watching him run around as soon as he even thinks someones coming through the line. He has 0 poise at most.

  17. frank no doubt about it clemmens lost the game because of mcareins but he also did not do alot until the fourth qtr …i loved the 25+ yard darts ratliff threw last preseason but again it was pre-season. i can only hope ratliff continues what he started. but i am going for ratliff

  18. RJ I am not saying Ratliff is gonna be really successful or he is our answer, but right now. The Jets have little choice. Here are the options
    1.) KC or Ratliff
    2) Sign a FA (Leftwich, Collins, Warner)
    3) Draft a player(Sanchez, Stafford in a trade up)
    4) Trade for Cassel

The first option is probably the best for the team right now unless they are in love with a QB in this year’s draft

  19. with Favre gone we are going to need a new WR. Coles is nothing more than a slot receiver at this point in his career. We need a good target for Clemens or Ratliff…

Ray Lewis would be an amazing pickup regardless if he’s past his prime or not. He’s without a doubt the most respected player in the NFL…probably all of sports…

  20. Anquan Boldin in a trade? We have the cap room now

  21. Frank

He’s not the type of WR we need, although he is better than Coles and Cotchery combined, but we need a speedy threat like Macklin, well someone with 4.3 speed, and besides the guy would put us back in the stone ages in terms of Cap room

  22. IS IT ME OR DO YOU GUYS THINK KELLEN CLEMONS BRUST OF CONFIDENCE IS STARTING TO GET ANNOYING.I MEAN WERE THE F#@K WAS THIS CONFIDENCE TWO YEARS AGO WHEN WE NEEDED HIM.WERE THE F#@K WAS THIS CONFIDENCE IN PRE-SEASON.AS A MATTER OF FACT HE TALKS A BIG GAME BUT ON THE FIELD CHOKES.I MEAN I SEE HIM EVERY WHERE SAYING I’AM THE JETS QB OF THE FUTURE.RATLIFF ON THE OTHER HAND KEEPS HIS MOUTH SHUT BECAUSE HE DOSE NOT KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN 2009 PLUS UNLIKE KC IT SEEMS EVERY TIME RATTY IS ON THE FLIED HE IS THROWING TOUCHDOWNS NOT PICKS

  23. i think stuckey is going to be hugh this year and don’t forget about clowney…..i still say we need to draft a o.lineman in the first round to give us an elite offensive line….why not build on something that’s already near great….not great but close

  24. Frank
Agree on the QB not WR.

Jadden..time will tell. I hope Rat is what we are looking for but still want to see both fight it out.

  25. For all calling for a short yardage back we have one in Jahuu Caulcrick 6.0ft 255 pounds and was a short yardage and goal line specialist for Michigan St. Why are we going to go into free agency or draft a back we already have for a cheap price on the roster already….AGAIN read his BIO and STATS at MICHIGAN ST. he has the potential to be a good short yardage back if he can stay healthy……

  26. IF anyone listened to the Favre phone conference on ESPN he made reference to the QB of the future for the JETS…FAVRE stated that Ainge is young and learning and made no reference to Clemens at all.FAVRE stated that he felt the JETS were set at QB with the three players they have.WELL if he didn’t mention Clemens and stated that AINGE was young and learning must be he feels that RATLIFF is the guy.I think Brett with all his experience would know a good QB when he spent a full season with him…RATLIFF should be the QB next year unless he totally blows it next preseason…..

  27. Lets see, uhm…$12 million for 5 months work equals $2.4 million per month… not bad …good bye suckers !!!

  28. Thanks for giving it your all Brett. At least he realized that he couldnt play at the same level anymore. Would have loved to see what you could do 10 years ago.
As for Clemens, its nice to see he has learned to say all the right things that a starting QB has to say to the media, but it still doesnt make him anything more than a Oregon system QB like a Joey Harrington, who will never be more than a back-up in the NFL. I was at practice last summer and Ratliff throws a pretty ball with some zip and touch along with it. He is also a decent athlete who can move in the pocket a little bit. I say we bring in a veteran but Ratliff in my opinion will be a MUCH better player then Clemens

  29. Let Ratliff and KC battle it out, the Jets only need a game manager, forget drafting a QB this year, the so-called experts are not so high on this years class as last years. If the Jets could build upon last years strong run game and fill a CB/Safety/ILB spot thru the draft and FA, they should be in decent shape.

  30. IMO The only reason clemmens was the number 2 was because they had to justify drafting him in the second round.
I think what will win this qb competition is the man who turns the ball over less will win it. I’m hoping that one of the guys on this roster can win the job and hopefully we can use our extra money towards things we need badly like another cb or maybe another linebacker

  31. I dont comment too terribly often on TJB, but I want to take this slot to write that I originally never wanted Brett Favre. But, after the week 1 victory, i was brought under the spell of “Favre magic”. And, despite all the interceptions, fumbles, etc., Brett gave Jets Nation some fun, historic, and unforgetable memories. I just want to thank Brett Favre for being part of the gang greens’ 2008 season, and for all the effort he contributed to the games and the team. I feel now that it was an honor and a privilege to have such a superstar in a jets uniform. Thanks for the memories, Brett. I wish you all the happiness in the world.

  32. bigKatFan

i agree 100% without Favre we maybe get 6 wins. It was fun to watch one of the greatest QB of this generation wear the green and white…

  33. I cant stand “The Baffoonary”, anymore!!! Kellen Clemens “WILL BE OUR QB IN ‘09″!!! All you knuckle heads need too remove your heads from your arse’s!!! How anyone can blame the ‘07 campaign, on KC is laughable!!! There’s a simple reason why he looked “flustered” in ‘07………WE HAD THE WORST O-LINE IN FOOTBALL!!! Call me stupid, but Clemens is clearly our best option at QB in ‘09!!! He has a full grasp of Schotty’s playbook, he has significant NFL experiance, and we “now” have 1 of the best O-Line’s in the game!!!

I truly hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think Ratliff is the answer!!! Iknow, I know……he looked great in Pre-Season, but I cant stress it enough…….There’s a tremendous difference between 3rd, 4th, & 5th stringers, and the Varsity squad!!! As far as the Draft is Concerned……..I WANT KENNY BRITT!!!!

  34. HERE, HERE BIG KAT FAN!!!! THANKS “4″ THE MEMORIES, BRETT!!!

  35. You know who is going to win when Clemens faces Brady/Cassel, Pennington, and Edwards twice a year.

Clearly if Clemens is the starter he is the most inexperienced starter in the AFC EAST!!!

Wow look how much we lost by aquiring FARVE. I mean even Henne and Beck are at or above Clemens level. That is disappointing!!

  36. No Favre No Problem

How in the hell can you say Henne, and Beck are as good, or better then Clemens??? What are you basing your opinions on???

  37. barben…we have a short yardage back…his name is tony richardson.

what planet are u from that u post that another RB is a must….

  38. Klecko,

Tony Richardson? How many times a game did he run the ball 1-2? We need a third RB to help support TJ…a Leron McClain type of player.

On our QB situation, Henne and Beck are on the same level as KC? Those guys are not even playing right now and Beck was not very good in his short stint. In 2007, KC should not have received any of the blame for that team going 4-12. No running game, no O-line, suspect D is the reason that team was 4-12

And Brett, they had a good run this year. You could just tell by the SF game something was wrong when he was throwing the football. He tried to gut it out and put his best effort. It was a great year and hopefully the franchise can take his energy and put it on the field. I can’t wait till the first sack and Rex Ryan starts going crazy on the sideline with a fist pump.

I can’t wait to see their offseason moves. Boldin isn’t gonna happen but I would love to add Scott/Lewis or Leonhard to the Defense and draft a backup NT, 3rd RB, speedy WR threat, CB, LBs and possibly a S.

  39. richardson should get the ball more…… especially on third and short.

  40. Prob ur right Klecko, but we should get more of a workhorse who can pick some slack up so Tj doesn’t have to lead the league in attempts, especially since we are gonna be a run first physical offense

  41. thatnk god this P.OF S. is retiring…now,kc is much better than any of you think…if not for the dropped passes in the baltimore and washington games he would have gone an easy 5-3…not to mention the other 3 games where he had little to no help…i hope he’s our QB…and takes us to the playoffs…then i would like to read all the praise for a change…just my thoughts…

  42. Now that Favre’s retirement is official. I would like to see the Jets trade up for Matthew Stafford. It would be hard and costly to move up to the #1 spot,so if Detroit opts to take an OT with the first pick. Then I can totally see us trading up with either KC at #3 (which would probably cost us our pick at #17,our second round pick, and nexts years 1st round pick,in excange the Jets would get the 3rd pick and probably the chiefs 4th round pick. If Kansas City passes on Stafford, then your looking at Green Bay (AGAIN!) who is at pick 9 ahead of the 49ers at 10 which Stafford will not get past the Niners. Or the Jets simply wait on QB and hope a Sanchez or Freeman fall to them. 1 of the 3 quarterbacks I think will be a Jet when its all said and done,no doubt about it in my opinion.

  43. I think KC deserves a chance to lead the Jets in 09. When he took the reigns in 07, the offensive line was mediocre. To judge him based on his performance in 07 would be unfair. If he struggles behind the revitalized o-line, then it will be time to criticize his pocket presence. He’s spent more time with a veteran mentor, had more snaps, and has spent time on the sidelines, which should motivate him to take advantage of his next chance under center. Assuming that he has matured, the Jets should be in great shape with KC leading the offense.

  44. You guys talk about a 3rd down/short yardage back being a must, but what about RB Jehuu Caulcrick… this guy should get some playing time and eventually take over for t-rich… hes a load in the backfield

as for FA they should try to grab bart scott to play along side david harris and in the draft we gotta address the #2 CB spot and a playmaking WR

  45. How about trading Coles and possibly a late draft pick to TEN for Vince Young? Seems like TEN has moved on with Simms and they want Collins back also.

  46. Crimson Se7en

I genarally don’t like moving up in the draft, especially for a “Highly Acclaimed” College QB!!! The price usually outweighs the cost, but if the Jets were able too trade up too #3, they “Might” be able too grab Michael Crabtree!!! IMO he’s gonna be a stud in this league for many, many years!!! But, that will never happen, unfortunately!!! Instead of moving up in the draft, I would like too see the Jets trade back, and draft Kenny Britt out of Rutgers! We need size, & speed at WR desperatly, and next too Crabtree, Britt’s the next best choice!!! He’s expected too go in the late 1st, or early 2nd!, but if his combine goes as well as expected, he could climb up ladder, like Gholston did last year!!! I don’t know if he would justify the Jets pick at #17, but if we could trade back a few spots, and snag him, I would love it!!!

  47. LargeBarge,

I mean what separates Clemens from both quarterbacks. Beck has about a year of nfl experience (2007) Henne filled in a couple of times last year in mop up duty. Its all the same I mean its not like Clemens has been on the Jets for say 7 or 8 years (See Cassel) and is a product of the system. They are all inexperienced and to strengthen my argument further PENNINGTON HAS SPENT TIME WITH EACH QUARTERBACK MORE THAN FARVE EVER DID WITH RATLIFF AND CLEMENS!! THIS IS SO HUGE BECAUSE WE SEE IN FRONT OF US NOW BESIDES THE GAME THAT FARVE IS PLAYING WITH THE JETS THE COMPLETE EXPOSURE OF OUR QUARTERBACKS!!! THEY ARE STILL UNPROVEN!!!!

  48. LargeBarge,

I am not even basing the fact that Cassel has 7 or 8 years with the same team and is a product of the system and comparing his success to Clemens although some would argue Clemens was “given a shot” by Mangini in 2007 when Pennington went down. I am just saying that Cassel’s success was because he was a product of the system under the leadership of Tom Brady and Belicheck just like with Pennington and the young Miami quarterbacks.

  49. Fonzie:

Cassel has only been with the Pats 4 years.

    Crimson-7:

    No, thanks.

  50. Bent,

Even better for a quarterback who has learned under the system. His life is set for now just for playing one season.

The point I am trying to make is that Clemens if he is the starter will be behind the rest of the quarterbacks in the AFC EAST!
