Not Bullish on Boller

by Bassett on February 17th, 2009 at 11:00 am

Ravens24x7 thinks that Kyle Boller and New York would go together like oil and water.

Kyle Boller’s name has been linked to the New York Jets as a possible solution for their job opening at quarterback. Sorry but I just don’t see it. Haven’t Rex Ryan and Jets new quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh seen enough of Boller already? And could you see the New York media with Boller? Not exactly a match made in heaven.

Many will say that Boller has all the tools to be successful and what he really needs is a change of scenery. That might be half right – a change of scenery could do Boller some good if the fit is right but let’s not be overly gratuitous with Boller’s skills. On the good side, he’s a great teammate who exhibits toughness and he has a decent amount of game experience. On the downside, he’s erratic, can’t throw deep passes accurately while not on his knees, has very little huddle presence and he reacts to pressure the way a vampire responds to sunlight.

Hmm … I understand that there are connections with new Jets Head Coach and the new QB coach Matt Cavanaugh, but I’ve never been fond of Boller and this doesn’t sound to me like the kind of veteran stability that the team is hoping to find via free agency.

    not boller

  2. Not going to happen…..Does he have any more upside than any of the 3 QB’s we currently have in camp?? Not in my eyes he dosent. Boller needs to go to a team with a good starting QB where he can sit and learn a new system. Then maybe he can get another shot…..SD, NO, CINN etc…

I don’t care who else they bring in- as long as the guy who starts for us coming out of camp actually earns the job by playing the best. If they want to bring 8 QBs to camp (I know they can’t fairly evaluate thatmany guys over the preseason) that’s fine. Wake me in August.

Well, we don’t want Kyle Boller, we don’t want Jeff Garcia, we don’t want Michael Vick….guess that means Byron Leftwich is coming to town, or we’re just not bothering to even get another QB in FA.

    please god no

I hope this doesn’t come to pass. Boller had plenty of chances to show he was a winning QB and had little to no success. With a great D and mediocre offensive talent Trent Dilfer won a SB in Baltimore. With the same combo Boller was replaced by 106 y/o Steve McNair and beaten out by a rookie…… we don’t need or want that type of “experience”

Boller was just a pre-draft workout phenom because he could throw a football throw the goal posts on his knees at the 50 yard line. His college stats didn’t show any promise for pro success and he was in a Jeff Tedford system…the death knell for any recent high draft pick QB bust (Harrington, Carr, Boller…maybe Aaron Rodgers can break the string of NFL failure). No Boller, no way, no how.

I say bring in Leftwich as insurance for the younger guys let Clemens/Ratty battle it out. Release some dead weight contracts then we need to sign McAllister and Lewis. McAllister to play opposite Revis and Ray to slide in for Barton.

I think we’d be better off going with KC then Boller, as far as I’m concerned he brings nothing better then KC or BR.

  14. avatar JesusRevis says:

    SAY NO TO BOLLER!

  15. avatar GANGGREEN says:

No to Boller,Garcia, and a special no to Leftwich who career numbers have been attrocious…the only vets that should be considered is Collins,Warner,or Bulger and thast if their even availible. Why waste more money for equal talent that we already have on the roster….

  16. avatar JesusRevis says:

I’m a big Marc Bulger fan, I think he’s very talented and needs a change of scenary. Is Bulger a FA?

  17. avatar DSmizzle says:

Boller is good enough to be 20-20 on his career, so maybe it wouldn’t be the end of the world if they brought him on as “suck insurance” in case KC and Ratliff completely suck. Granted, Baltimore had a sick defense most of those years, but he was also playing with a very limited offense with marginal talent around him, except maybe O-Line.

He is also the Baltimore Ravens’ all-time leading passer in terms of yardage! He’s a legend!

    PASS

  19. avatar Pete57 says:

I’ve heard that Bulger will either be cut, or be available in a trade

  20. avatar jay says:

i can throw better than boller he is a joke,if thats the case sign vinny

  21. avatar JesusRevis says:

    thanks pete

if a trade is available I cant imagine the Rams asking for too much for him, so I think that would be a good scenario for the Jets.

Be serious J.E.T.S will not b signin anyone… Just our free agents and a draft pick… we dont need that much pick we just need to develop players.. Ex Gholston and a few more
