News: Panthers Franchised Peppers

by Bassett on February 19th, 2009 at 2:39 pm

The Panthers have placed the franchise tag on Julius Peppers.

Sorry to those of you who have been stumping for over a month for the Jets to get Peppers.

Even though he would have been the fourth player getting starter money from the Jets at OLB, even though he is as of yet unproven in a 3-4, even though he would cost a king’s ransom to sign, some still wanted him. Hopefully giving up draft picks now for Peppers (in addition to all the above reasons) will put this to rest once and for all.

Also, Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha has a long-term deal in currently being reviewed at the league’s office instead of a franchise tag.

Well I was against the Peppers signing, but the Aso thing is disappointing, he actually wants to stay in Oakland, he must be getting some contract huh?

Neither player was ever a possibility for the Jets, so as long as neither goes to the Pats, I dont care.

Of course they did (franchise Peppers), they’d be crazy not to. That being said, IMO he would be all wrong for us. As stated above, no experience in the 3-4, he is not a 3-4 DE, and we’ve already spent way too much money on the OLB position.

Ramble, I agree that he was never an option because we already have so much money inested in our OLB’s, however, I would much rather have signed him this year to play OLB than have signed Pace last year. I am a big fan of Pace, but Peppers would be a monster as a 3-4 OLB.

Al Davis needs to sell the Raiders already. The man is like 200 years old and he totally runs that team. Last year he messed up free agency by siging Kelly to a 5o million deal. Kelly is a decent starter. Then they paid hall 70 million and J Walker 55 million. This year hes screwing everybody again signing Namdi to a 3 year like 40-50 million dollar deal. And then the retard signs a punter…yes I said a punter to a 3 year deal worth 3 million a year. The dude is freaking senile man.

What is with these guys requesting trades and only to superbowl contenders? Play where your drafted. I didnt like Peppers attitude. If they we all like him there would be 700 players playing for 3 or 4 select teams.

I still disagree with anyone who thinks re-signing Asomugha is a bad move
