Buzz: List of Teams Interested Scott Growing?
At this point, it seems that Bart Scott would be silly to sign paper … there seems to be an ever-lengthening list of teams that would fall over themselves to pay the veteran linebacker, according to the Carroll County Times.
Among the teams believed to be interested in Scott: the New York Jets, the Cincinnati Bengals, the St. Louis Rams, the Kansas City Chiefs, the New York Giants and the Arizona Cardinals.
It might make Scott that much more expensive to sign, but it also might stay his hand from inking that contract until after free agency opens …

I hope Coach Ryan can talk him into coming over!
the other teams dont have a chance in getting Scott, they all suck except the Giants. I think at the end it will be either the Jets or Giants. But since we got Rex Ryan with the Jets, we should have no problem getting him (i hope)
I would think Miami has an interest too….
I think we would be clear cut favorites in that group, but I just saw on espn that shaun rodgers wants to be released, doesn’t like the situation in cleveland (poor eric mangini, lol)..but what do you guys think?
That’s a real scary thought of rodgers paired with jenkins, I think he would be perfect to spell the jinx, I would garauntee NO ONE would be coming up the middle! And that would probably make life easier on out OLB’s on passing downs.
Yea rodgers and jinx would be crazy, both the fatties would love it they wuold get plenty of rents, use them both in goal line and spell them throughout the game but its not going to happen, fun to think about tho
I would imagine we will have to match any other offer out there to lure scott and probably have to beat whatever offer the ravens give him, the longer this goes on with no contract given to R Lewis from the Ravens the scarier this is getting
Forget the Rex Ryan connection – Scott is going to the team that pays him the highest guaranteed. Don’t kid yourself that it’s about anything else.
Davo
Yea hes definatly looking for the money which is why i said we will have to match any offer but if we did match say the dolphins you gotta think the RR connection will sway him to NJ, plus the atlantic health center is supposed to be one of the best in the league
What do you guys think of going after June or Brooks who just got cut by the Bucs?
Guys, also, Scott may like it in Baltimore and just use offers such as ours to set his price with them.
No guarantee he will come here for a better offer. He might stay and get one as or almost as good.
I know if I were Newsome, I would say, give us a chance to match and Scott may well do so.
Harlan
I’m with you Mel. Cato June is only 29 and has played 6 seasons, but he isn’t the force that Derrick Brooks is. Brooks is 35 and has played 14 seasons. With interest in Scott growing, June or Brooks would be a cheaper alternative. Brooks may not have many years left in him, but it’s hard to tell. After all, Ray Lewis is 33 and has 13 seasons under his belt. Scott seems to be headed for a big money deal, which sometimes effects a player’s motivation. June or Brooks could be a safer choice.
If so, then my plan B for MLB would be to move up 5 spots in the first round, and draft the new Rey-Rey (Maualaga)…
Please do not sign Derrick Brooks or Cato June!
Bart Scott is the guy that they need to pay money to. He is worth 8-9 mill a year. That should be able to get him.
Any word on other CB’s that are FA’s that we could sign?
Bubby Brister:
Ray M is a great player, but not worth 1 or 2 extra picks. We could easily draft another grat USC LB at 17.
BTW: All the releases by the BUCS, they are making a serious offer to Haynesworth.
CA Jets Fan:
Does Cushing have the same level of intensity as Rey M. ? We need some “fire in the belly” type guys on this team….
Cato June is a classic Tampa 2 LB…..way to small to play any position on our team. D Brooks career is over. He is an old 35.
If we cant get Scott….we can get our pick of LB’s at 17. Would love to have Maleuga. I dont care what his 40 times read or how many times he can bench 225…..they guy is an animal and I want him hitting opponents on Sunday.
Still shocked how well the “other” LB’s did at the combine… CA Fan your a USC groupie…Were you suprised how well Mathews did??
I’ll let CA fan answer this but I believe Cushing is a btter 4-3 backer than a 3-4 LB. maleuga is a natural 3-4 ILB
I know he is a big boy who likes to run and play hard but I would take Maleuga over Cushing is a hearbeat
Drew your dead on with what your saying about June and Brooks, they dont fit here.
Matthews did well at the combine but he wasnt even a fulltime starter at sc. Rey-Rey is a great run stuffer but I think we already have that in DH, we need a versatile MLB who can cover TE’s, etc.
Drew: Absolutely correct assessment of the USC LB’s. I would love Rey or Cushing. Cushing is having the controversial roid issues. I don’t think it is an issue in the NFL (ie: Merriman and Castello (while at NW). Mathews did very well at teh combine also.
I wish Taylor Mays would have come out. He is a better suited player at LB, and may be the best out of all of them :)
I have been hearing wonderful things about Pat White. I know he is short, but maybe another Brad Smith Experiment in the works? He will be available in the 4th or 5th.
BTW Electric Ham:
We had that MLB in Vilma. Last I checked he had a darn good season last year. Does anyone think he could adapt to the 3-4 and even the Rex D? He is so talented and wish he could have stayed.
Bubby Brister:
Sorry I jsut read it. Cushing does have insane intensity. Just not as popular and possibly talented as Rey Maleuga. I am positive that 1 of them would be there at 17 though. If we don’t sign Scott, then that is a viable choice.
I still think if that is the case, in FA:
1. CB (not McCallister though)
2. SS Leohnard or Bell from Miami (if he is a FA) I would actually prefer Bell, because he is a beast even at 30 and we take him away from Miami (ie: L Milloy to Buff from NE)
These guys are going to sign with the team that gives them the best deal. They are players, not fans, and their careers are very short, GETTING PAID is their main goal!
I agree with that to a certain level J, but:
It is not all black and white. Some players want to win
That is why Brady took millions less then he could have been paid.
Peyton restructured his contract.
So did K. Rhodes and C Pace who just got very big paydays last year.
CA,
Brady and Manning are set for life, we will be watching them on TV when they are very old.
Pace and Rhodes restructured their contracts so that they can collect their entire deal otherwise they would get cut and have to find a new deal. The NFL is an owners league, no guarantees, the contract numbers after the signing/guaranteed money is often very misleading.
J,
I absolutely understand that, but there are players that care about winning. I don’t care if we are watching brady and manning when they are old. They took less money to stay in the systems they love. Peyton has a lot of endoresments, but imagine him on the Giants instead of Eli? He would make so much more.
For the most part you are correct, but there are exceptions.
CA,
There are always exceptions, but most of the league is not superstars. Manning and Brady will still each collect over $150 million in salary alone throughout their playing days, and when you are a superstar your location becomes much less important, you transcend the city that you play in.
CA Fan
I might be hated by some fellow Jet fans when I say this but i alwasy though Vilma was a little overrated even when we played a 4-3. Forget him in the 3-4 it just cant work.
He is a nice LB but I think he became the face of our franchise and playing for NY helped.
J,
Again agree or the most part, but how much do Manning and Brady bring into the pockets of the owner and partners of the teams they play for?
They are worth far more then their contracts. Brady’s contract was 6 years 60 million. Vick was paid over 100 million. Russell makes more in Oakland then that. You can’t tell me he isn’t team first. Manning is getting about 100 million over 10 years. That is still 10 mill a year. These are franchise superstars.
If they were greedy they would get far more. Asamuga just got what like 20 mill in guarantees? Peyton only got 16 when he signed his contract.
Drew,
I do not agree on Vilma. He played behind small nose tackles in NY that were definately not Jenkins type material and still produced great tackles. he was also a ball hawk and got int’s.
I really liked Vilma. I was at the charger game when Cowart got hurt and he took his spot and Vilma never lost it. I remmeber telling my buddies in SD that the Jets will be fine when Sam Cowart was hurt.
Ca,
Like I said it is an owners league, look at the fact that they make us buy preseason tickets. The NFL does not have $$ losing teams, even in the smallest markets. Wait until they open up the new stadium in 2010 and outlaw open fires in the parking lots and set up concessions outside of the stadium to rip off the fans from the minute they park their cars. It is too bad that we as fans have been turned into to suckers if you want to watch the game in person. I have had tickets since 1966, and it get’s less fan friendly each year.
J,
It is still a business, and eveyrone tries to make as much money as they can.
You would do the same if you were the owner. Just be happy you are the fan of a team that is trying to do things, and finally making risky moves to bring in a title.
Channing Crowders also a backup plan im sure.
Anthony Weaver-DL- Texans Feb. 25 – 3:17 pm et
Texans released DE Anthony Weaver.
Weaver is only 28, but he had a flurry of offseason surgeries as a Texan and his body may be breaking down. Still, Weaver’s old coordinator in Baltimore, Rex Ryan, could give him a shot with the Jets. New York wasn’t pleased with the production RE Kenyon Coleman provided last season.

Ca,
Not sure about Woody wanting to win as much as he wants to be competitive to sell PSL’s and tickets. I know it sounds cynical, but if he really wanted to win he might consider bringing a real football guy to work with Tannenbaum, and also might want to have had a talk w/Cowher, not for anything more than to hear his insight into the league.
Signing free agents is a Jerry Jones/Dan Snyder method, building a team is what the winners of Superbowls do. (See the last few winners)
NFL Live just said Jets released L. Coles
Hutch posted about he Coles release on nj.com/jets too
Newark star-ledger reported the jets cut Lav. Coles according to ESPN!!
we HAVE to get Scott…HAVE TOO!
