Corey Ivy Visits & Hutch Is Confident In Bart Scott Deal Getting Done

Following up the Corey Ivy news. Hutch seems confident that the Jets will pry Bart Scott away from the Ravens and notes that the team is meeting with Corey Ivy.

With the Jets trying to put the finishing touches on a five-year, $40 million deal with linebacker Bart Scott — it looks like it’ll get done but nothing is official yet — they’ve turned their attention to another Raven.

Not safety Jim Leonard, but cornerback Corey Ivy.

Just spoke to his agent, Brian Levy, and he told me Ivy is meeting with the team. This is a great move for the Jets because they desperately need help at cornerback and don’t want to depend on the draft.

Last year the Jets seemingly had 100 defensive backs they couldn’t rely on, maybe this year that number will be lower. All the same, Ivy is a “hold the fort” guy for the Jets allowing them some freedom to be a bit more daring in the top part of the draft.

  4. is ivy any good?

  5. i see ivy taking the role of poteat! veteran, knows the system, not an everydown CB! should pay under 1 mil per year for him!

  6. John Clayton just reported that Bart Scott and the Jets have a agreed in principle to a 5 year deal!!! This move is a huge step in turning our D into a nasty, head hunting, fearless unit. I gotta admit that even though Rex hasnt coached a game for us yet I sure as hell love this dude’s style!! Cant wait for some Bart Scott trash talking and monster hits!!

  7. [...] But which Raven or combination of Ravens represents the best value? Bart Scott, Ray Lewis, Jim Leonhard? Update: 2:27 p.m.: Add cornerback Corey Ivy to the list. [...]

  8. Eddie DiGio -

That was reported about three hours ago. He still hasn’t signed..

  9. Ivy is no more than a 3rd CB at best. I’d say he’s better than Drew Coleman but if he ends up as a starter we’ll be in trouble

  10. id rather get greer

  11. EHam totally agree.Get Greer, draft a guy in rd 2 and we have good starters and depth.

  12. what are we going to pay for him?
3 to 4 years at what
this is kind of scary w the jets

  13. National Football Post reported that Bart Scott signed with the Jets… Signed as in done deal, not “agreed in principle”…

    Breaking: Scott Signs With Jets
As we first reported earlier today at the NFP, the New York Jets have agreed to a new contract with former Ravens’ linebacker Bart Scott. The deal is rumored to equal $40-million dollars and should average out to $8-million per season.

This move by the Jets reunites Scott with former defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, who is now the new head coach of the Jets. Last season under Ryan, Scott contributed 82 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles to the NFL’s second ranked defense.

Over the past week, rumors had been rampant on Scott’s future, but in the end the 28-year old linebacker decided to leave Baltimore and head for New York—leaving the Ravens with a glaring hole at the linebacker position. The Ravens will now turn their attention to linebacker Ray Lewis—a free agent as well—and try to work out a muti-year deal wit the All-Pro linebacker. If a deal can’t be reached with Lewis, along with the expected signing of safety Jim Leonhard in New York, the Ravens could have a much different look come September.

  14. We don’t need Lewis when we have Harris. I’m not really familiar with Leonhard, but if Ryan “loves” this guy, there’s gotta be something to him.

  15. As a UK-based Jets fan, I found your blog on google and read a few of your other Jets posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
