What’s Clowney’s Deal?

by Bassett on February 27th, 2009 at 12:30 am

With the RFA tender period coming and going, we’re a bit surprised that the Jets have yet to make an announcement around David Clowney’s future with the team.

Maybe I’m unversed on the rules, but my understanding of the league calendar was that when Thursday came and went, so did the Jets exclusive claim on the young WR …

It’s not to say that he might not have been signed, it just seems that no one knows anything … very odd …

I would be very surprised if the Jets didn’t sign Clowney to a contract…he showed great promise before the injury last year and he has the ability to stretch the defense which we all know is what the Jets desperately need! Good job with the Richardson signing, but let’s keep the momentum going…

OMG it’s nopt like he’s demanding Fitzgerald type of money, what’s taking so long

I dont think this is anything to worry about. Its not like other teams are lining up to sign Clowney. Be patient, it will happen.

  5. avatar Nick says:

If you’re going to give Elam a contract, you have to give Clowney one. I’m sure they gave him a deal.

Unlike everyone else on this blog, I really don’t see what’s so amazing about Clowney!!! I know he’s fast, but thats only part of being a WR!!! If he is such an asset, why has’nt anyone else touched him!!! I mean, Green Bay let him walk, and it’s not like they’re stacked at WR!!!

  7. avatar JesusRevis says:

largebarge, his potential has earned him a contract from us, I think it will happen sometime in the next day or two.

The St. Louis Rams may be raiding the Baltimore Ravens for two key free agents.

Linebacker Bart Scott and center Jason Brown are set to visit with the Rams, FOXSports.com has learned.

  9. avatar JesusRevis says:

Gary G, I dont think we need to worry about Scott choosing St Louis over the Jets

News: Redskins resign d’angelo hall — you can cross him off from our CB free agent list.

he got a huge contract again.

  11. avatar Gary G. says:

About a half hour after he went up for bids, coveted linebacker Bart Scott spoke of New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan in glowing terms.
    Scott

Echoes from the 12 chimes of midnight barely had died out when Scott was a guest on “SportsCenter” early Friday morning to discuss his situation. He and the Baltimore Ravens failed to reach terms, sending Scott to the open market.

He’s expected to meet with the Jets later Friday. Ryan was his defensive coordinator in Baltimore. The Jets’ defensive coordinator, Mike Pettine, was Scott’s position coach in Baltimore.

“I got a special place in my heart for those guys because they are the guys that gave me the chance and taught me how to play defense,” Scott told ESPN via phone. “I was the happiest man in the world when he got the job because I felt it was long overdue.

“We always have a great time with Rex and the guys that helped kind of mature me from undrafted to what I am now. So they’re just as much a part of my success as I am.”

ESPN’s John Clayton reports that free agent LB Bart Scott hit the market early Friday, but has not turned down Baltimore’s five-year contract offer.

    Yawn……….NO WORRIES!!!

  15. avatar ridinmywave says:

barge…………the packers have ALWAYS been pretty stacked at WR…..

the main reason clowney and the packers parted ways was because they wanted him to play slot and he wanted to be a main receiver, with the jets he gets into a different system where he can be one of our top receivers.

  17. avatar Jason says:

The Jets officially did not offer him a tender. Seems strange because as I understand the rules he can now negotiate with other clubs. The only player the Jets tendered a contract to was Abram Elam.

  18. avatar Bent says:

I wonder if, rather than signing him to a tender, they are intending to lock him up long term, so will negotiate that today. While I’m sure he’s on a few teams’ radars, nobody knows enough about him to make him their top priority or make him a big offer.

What about Ratliff? His extension was unconfirmed last I heard too.
