Bears Want to Keep KJ
Posted on March 1st, 2009 by Bassett
Although he was mentioned as talking to the Jets on Friday, it sounds like the Bears are doing their best to keep RB Kevin Jones on their roster for 2009.
I like Jones and think he could add great versatile depth for the Jets. KJ probably wants to be where he’ll see the most carries, and that’s probably not New York. I’m hopeful that Marcus Mason can make an impact in 2009.

Such an overrated player. It’s very easy to find a guy in the draft.
34 rush 109 yards 3.2 Yards per carry. Dear god.
we have a 1st and 2nd down back in jones
we have an all purpose back in leon
now we need a short yardage guy
this draft have good rb value
c’mon this is a must.
the brothers jones and leon? it’s like the name of an all time r&b band. this has just too much comedy & marketing potential material.
i’d sign up right now to watch the reality show version.
People are way too ignorant sometimes. Stop acting like KJ isn’t a good back. As a starter he put up good numbers and has had success the rest of his career as a short yardage back, if you dont believe me check his TD numbers. He would be a good pickup for the Jets and could fill in nicely as our third back and would also be insurance if TJ went down with an injury. So stop acting like this guy is trash, we would be lucky to have him.
Caulcrick is untested, but he’s a load.
1) theyre not brothers, I hope that was a joke
2) i live kevin jones and enjoyed watching him in detroit, hes had health issues in the past but i dont remember him getting injured last year (did he?). hes a great short yardage back and had a lot of experience in the league. on top of that, he wouldnt command a lot of money cuz hes well under the radar.
Nick, you say hes a overrated player, its quite the opposite, no one thinks he can perform anymore, and theyre all wrong
Lucky to have him? You make us sound like we’re some abysmal football team. We’d be lucky to have a castoff runningback, overpaid to come in on third downs when that’s not his specialty? My oh my. And he’s not a short yardage back. You should try watching him play instead of reading the box scores.
I think you’re getting your terms confused. He’s not a short yardage back. He’s marginally successful in short yardage situations, but that’s not what he’s made for. He’s a poor man’s franchise back, able to do a little bit of everything. That’s why he was drafted so high. If anything, his major selling point is that he can hit the home run. He’s not terrible though. But if you think for a second we should get in a bidding war with anyone for him you’re sorely mistaken. There just doesn’t seem to be any real reason to bid with a stop-gap, rather than a potential solution. Like I said, we could find a guy that would fit those needs later in the draft. Like a Rashad Jennings, Andre Brown, or even Gartrell Johnson, for instance.
Nick, Relax. I never said we should get in a bidding war for the guy, or over pay for him. I said we would be lucky to have him as our #3 RB. Is that not true? He’s 6″0 228, is that not nice size?

Jones has an excellent combination of power, burst and speed. He is a hard-nosed runner who has lateral quickness, elusiveness and speed to create explosive gains. He is most effective stretching wide, planting and accelerating through downhill. He shows good vision and the change-of-direction skills to be a strong cutback runner against overpursuing defenses.
The reason K Jones is a good #3 is because he is true depth. Not a short yard only situation guy he is able to be the starter should jones get injured. He came off a decent season when he was released by the lions and then played 2nd fiddle to forte.
TJBfan, all true, and all reiterating my point. Jones is a good back, and he would be the best #3 RB in the NFL. Some people are just ignorant
I’m not sure why you brought up his size in response to my post, but oh well. I apologize though. I believe I just got hung up on your questionable word choice there and the fact that I generally discredit people that only cite stats or scouting reports. After all, some people are just ignorant.
I was thinking Deuce McAllister or Lamont Jordan. What do you guys think?
If we are going to run it down people’s throats — why not smash it down their throats.
i like lamont jordan
questionable word choice? Have you ever even seen Kevin Jones play? Or are you just one of those ignorant people who just hates on players you know nothing about? If I cant site stats, or scouting reports, then I dont know what to tell you buddy, Ijust figured if you were going to believe me then maybe you would listen to the scouts take on Jones. And yes, he was used a short yardage back in Detroit and was pretty succesful. So I dont know where your getting your info from, but find a new source.
I’d personally rather draft a RB then sign Jones, but I wouldnt be against the signing. But some people like to cause arguments just for the sake of arguing. Take a deep breath and relax

I would argue that Tashard Choice would be a better third rb then Kevin Jones, but I agree with your sentiment about the lack of knowledge and the unknown sense of urgency that resides here on the jetsblog.
A lot of these non debono customers seem to overrate the importance of signing a player like Kevin Jones and Leonard.
The truth is, there shouldnt even be a thread discussing Kevin Jones; especially a thread where a debate exists about whether the jets should sign him or not.
Hes fairly young, decent sized, has had some success in the nfl, and will not be part of the jets plans if he were to be signed. The only way he would ever have an impact was if Thomas Jones got hurt for an extended period of time.
Giants are better then the jets and everyone on this board knows it.
not for long purple s**t on your face
I think Nick pretty much just closed this thread.
Strong points, case closed.
