Jay Cutler Stamping His Feet & Holding His Breath

So, after having his new bosses go behind his back, Jay Cutler is demanding a trade? While there’s a lot of reasons why the Jets should trade for Cutler (performance, cannon arm, etc.) just know that he’s not well respected by his peers.

“He’s a great quarterback, don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying anything to disrespect him. I think he’s a hell of a player. But Jeff George was a hell of a player. There’s a lot of guys who have been great players.” — Jake Plummer on Cutler, comparing him to one of the cockiest & best athletes who never got it together

“He is a punk. I’m just not a huge fan of his … he and Tony Gonzalez are the biggest crybabies in the league ” — Matt Wilhelm Chargers LB

“Cutler is the one who was grabbing his crotch [last season] and saying stuff to Philip [Rivers] in the first place. He started the whole thing.” — Unnamed Chargers Player on 2007 feud between Rivers and Cutler

“Word out of Denver is that he’s largely disliked by his own team, due to a terminal bout of arrogance.” – Pete Kotz, Nashville Scene (Cutler went to Vandy)

“I don’t like him, I don’t want to talk about him.” — Kerry Rhodes, Jets S

I recently heard Curt Schilling in an interview say that he thought some of the best athletes he’s ever seen are the ones who are the most insecure. It makes sense in a way, because it’s what drives them. All I’m saying is that the Jets would have to weigh how he’d get along in New York against how he’ll perform.

The kid can sling it, but he’s just not liked. Although it was couched as a “joke,” his AFC teammates threw him in the pool at the Pro Bowl. I don’t rememeber them doing that to other players in the past, but maybe I just missed it. Cutler is a great Quarterback, but he’s a prima donna and there’s not many players in the league who respect or really like him.

  1. Not sure if Cutler is the answer after reading the player comments, but a QB is key.

Look at all of the perenial playoff teams, the 1 thing they have in common is a solid D and a solid QB situation. (Pitts, NYG, SD, NE, Etc.)
The teams w/questionable QB situations have a good season or two and then fall back to reality.

Interestingly, the first big move by Pioli was to get a starting QB.

With the moves made by Tanny this week, the d is solid, the real question is still QB.

  2. Well if Rhodes doesn’t like him, we definitely shouldn’t bring him in. Kind of a shame because he’d be a great addition (though I sort of doubt the Broncos trade him anyway). But in any case, we’re going to be all about team chemistry, and if there’s already dislike for him within out locker room, he won’t be coming very close.

  3. As fans we discount the chemistry thing, but it is probably the most important key to a team.

  4. Drama, it’s really funny when it’s not your team. This article was enlightening, I couldn’t understand why Denver would even consider trading Cutler, now I have a clue. Do you think Cutler would fit into the New England mold, could he get along with Belicheck ? Lets see how this unfolds

  5. rhodes and cutler play on opposites side of the ball the jets should make a offer for the 25 yr old pro bowler.

  6. Oh my god, get him! He’s the franchise QB we need! Give them 2 number 1s. A bit over priced but that would mean we’d have a solid D for 6 years and an outstanding QB for another long while.

    Do your stuff Tanny!

  7. Just a few things to consider:

    - The pool incident shouldnt be seen as malicious, it was only news worthy because Cutler is a diabetic and they made sure to take his cell phone out but he had something electronic he needed for his diabetes in his pocket,

    Break down the negative comments..
    - 1 from the QB who retired early because he was displaced from his team by Cutler
    - 2 from rival charger players
    - Random reporter who is going off of rumor
    - 1 valid comment from a Jet defensive player

The only thing to take into consideration is Kerry Rhodes, but I think that this comment could easily be taken out of context. This could have been asked after the lose to the broncos instead of a response to maybe Cutler joining the Jets. You think patriot players had anything good to say about Baker before he signed?

Now with all that said they won’t let Cutler go anywhere and even if they did there is no way McDaniels lets him land on the Jets. Chances are prob more unlikely than it was for us to get Cassell directly from the Pats.

  8. I like Cutler and in hindsight he is the guy we should have drafted in 2006. I do think there are valid questions about him. He needs to learn how to win in this league. As a rookie he led a collapse. His team never fired in year, and they had another major collapse in year 3. He is more interested in stats and long throws right now than playing winning football. Alot of that was Shanahans fault, but I could see Denver moving him if their new staff cant make him start winning.

  9. The Chiefs just gave a #2 for Cassel and Vrabel. That just set the market.

  10. i believe we can get him for the 17th pick and draft him some weapons with our other picks.

  11. Rocky Bernard has just signed with the Giants, coupled with the Boley signing, they are doing well.
Has anyone heard an update on Lavernes Coles , last was he was considering Buffalo Vs. Miami, like to get him out of the division

  12. DamnI was getting ready to get happy but If everyone hates him whats the point. It will be like having the Brett Favre-Coles fued all over agin but it will be like Jay Cutler-Rest Of Team fued.

  13. Sorry not worth it, he also forgets which color his team is wearing when throwing the ball.

  14. This isn’t Brett Farve we are talking about. I don’t think Thomas Jones would think twice about smacking this guy in the face. I say he is worth the risk, his arm is too good and we need it here in the northeast. Sign him and worry about the other stuff afterwards.

  15. Would Kerry Rhodes hate him as much if Cutler was a Jet and was torching other teams’ secondaries the way he torched the Jets?

  16. Grab him!!!!! We need a QB. He has a great arm. Trade Clemens and a 2nd or a 3rd!!!!! I hope we get him

  17. Jason is correct….We should have had him in 06. If there is a chance now, go get him. Pace, Scott, Harris Jenkins, Jones, to name a few will keep him in line!!!

  18. Kerry Rhodes doesn’t like him because Kerry Rhodes got beat by his arm, on like 97 different plays in one game.

  19. How are we supposed to get him?? I know he ‘demanded’ a trade.. but the broncoss arent gonna trade him away just to appease him.. They need a plan to replace him, and the 17th overall pick doesnt get them anything.. Even a number 1 pick to get Stafford wouldnt be good enough for the broncos.. You think they want clemens or ratliff?? ha!

  20. j,, Pioli is unproven as a talent evaluator; some think Bellichek has had something to do with personnel decisions in NE.

Plus, unlike most of the pundits, I think the Cassel trade was a huge mistake for KC and a steal for the Pats. Cassel took the top rated offense of all time, including one of the best WR ever, and had real difficulty completing deep passes and seemed to show a very slow release, resulting in far more sacks than when Brady played. Some Pats fans think he was not even the second best QB on the roster (which would justify their trading him away).

So, here is the way I see the trade. NE, got a very early second round draft pick, almost the same value as a number 1, for a player they don’t need or want. They got $16 mil of cap space in the second day of FA (as opposed to waiting for a long time while the best players are signed). They got bailed out from the risk of having to pay $16 mil for a back-up QB.

KC got a guy I think is not a solid NFL QB who will have trouble on a team without NE’s WR, D, and OL. They will have to pay him a lot of guaranteed money to sign him.

And, I think patience would have pressured NE to settle for much less.

Pioli may be a NE Tool who just did NE a huge favor. I don’t think he did KC a huge favor.

    harlan

  21. Forget about hindsight, I was screaming for the Jets to draft Cutler when he came out, over Bush, Young and Leinhart (please no Sanchez). That being said if he’s a cancer, he’s a cancer. I just lived through the Marbury era, I don’t need another jerk leading my team.

That being said, like TBJFan wrote above the sources are very questionable. If Cutler is truly on the market, Tanny’s got to do his due diligence and find out the deal on Cutler from the inside.

Maybe Tanny can place a call to old D-Rob. He must have other contacts in Devner. If the guy isn’t as bad as they say PLEASE TRADE FOR HIM.

His gun is probably the best in the business, a perfect fit for the Meadowlands (see last year’s game).

Something tells me Rex can handle him personality wise, unless he’s a total _ _ _ _ _.

  22. You haven’t heard these kind of comments about other QB’s in the league, remember where’s there’s smoke there’ s fire. We play Brady twice a year and you never hear those kind of comments from the opposing teams, including our own players. Ifthis guy is anything like Jeff George, we shouldn’t go near him with a 10′ pole. As someone said above you can’t discount team chemistry.

  23. Saying Jay Cutler was available because the Broncos wanted Matt Cassel is another way of saying Jay Cutler is not available. I would gladly offer up this and next year’s one, but there is no reason for Denver to get rid of him at this point, as they have no one to replace him with.

  24. Cutler’s an up and coming QB in this league and has put up some nice numbers, but what about winning the big game? Denver’s collapse made the Jets’ collapse look minor in comparison. I guess, unlike Bassett, I don’t think Cutler is “great” and I would need to know a lot more about why he has failed in Denver before I got psyched about any deal, which would be exorbitant, to get him. IMO, I’d pass on a universally hated, c**ky, but talented, jerk at QB. QB’s supposed to be a leadership position, not the focal point for controversy.

  25. Josh McDaniels loves Matt Cassel. I am sure he really likes Cutler it was just poor judgement on the Broncos part that they could swing a deal in the last minute. Unfortunately for the Broncos they have now found themselves in a tough spot. I think the only team that has a shot at Cutler would be the Lions. They hold the 1st pick and that the Broncos would have to consider it if the top overall pick is offered. I think in the end Cutler stays in Denver.

  26. this guy never won a big game, so why would we give up a pick better than a fourth rounder?

can someone tell me what BIG GAME he won?

  27. I know the guy is a great QB but i think our QB’s are great too. they just didn’t have the chance to show what they can do other than some highlights pre season. we also have a better Oline now. i believe in Rattlif i think the guy will turn out amazing.

  28. This is a special player and a rare oppurtunity as Josh Mcdaniels might want to start fresh….The guy is a bit of a head case and aloof but whpo cives a crap if Rhodes or the rest of the league likes him….I wouldnt have liked Culter either after he carved my defense up and talks smack about it…

We would have drafted him in 06 but 4 was too high for him and trading back was scary. Plus we did need a LT.

Call Denver offer a 2 1’s and gp from there

  29. Culter has been playing with one of the worst defenses in the league the least 2 years and fans are talking about winnning a big game??

How about walking into the Meadowlands and lighting our team up after we beat the Pats and Titans on the road??

The guy is better than anyone we could draft at that position and has got 2 years of film to prove it. I dont care if anyone likes him.

  30. Jay Cutler has “failed” in Denver because he has a defense that played unspeakably awfully. In Denver’s final four games, the offense put up DVOAs of 20.7%, -5.3%, 28% and 24%. That’s three excellent games and one clunker against the #2 seed in the NFC. In those same games, the defense went 37.5%, 27.2%, 42.8% and 80%. That is to say, the defense made every offense they played look better than the 2007 Patriots or the 2004 Colts.

That’s really not on Jay Cutler, or any other offensive player, for that matter.

  31. vinny – the guy has been a starter for two years. that philosophy doesn t fit this situation.

kerry rhodes made those comments after the broncos came in to giants staduim this year and smoked us, in a game we should have one. i think this was taken a bit out of context.

………..and if that was the case then put rhodes in the offer sheet.

minus tom brady, i will take cutler over any player in the NFL right now/

  32. Harlan,
I agree 100% on Cassell. I think Pioli still works for NE because he just did them a huge favor!

As for Cutler, not one of the comments was from a teammate. It was all from opponents, reporters, and retired players.

  33. Bassett

Are you kidding me with the pool comment?? It was planned by Manning and Mangold. Two great guys?? It was a prank nothing else

  34. Pioli is not unproven as a scout, or talent evaluator. To think that is to not know the scenes of football.

  35. no…. this team will not suceed with cutlers attitude. Dont be the Dallas Cowboys. be the New York Jets

  36. seanmac, hey, I’m just using this blog’s measure of success. If the team wins, then it’s because the QB’s great and if the team loses, then it’s all the QB’s fault. He threw 2 INTs against the Chargers in a huge game. The first was a redzone INT at the end of the 1st half and it was a huge turnover. A TD there, and the Broncos are within 2 scores, with the ball to start the 2nd half (and the Broncos scored on that first drive). The second INT, to Luis Castillo, was just awful. There’s no doubt that Cutler would benefit from a better defense (what QB wouldn’t), but is Cutler a guy that puts up nice numbers, is hated by his team and can’t win the big one? Is he the A-Rod of QB’s?

  37. This almost seems like a stephon marbury scenario…loads of talent…but still can’t get his team over the hump while being a cancer in the locker room.

  38. cutler is a good qb but again why would we draft our qb when were not going to give them chance kc had his chance we saw he had trouble seeing over the line that year we had a smaller line than this year i just dont get it kc is not a pocket qb unless hes in the west coast offence which i dont think rex is going to run he said he wants to run the ball more thats not west coast so kc should not even be here

  39. A rod was possibly revered as “the best” in his profession or maybe “the best ever”…..jay cutler is nowhere near such recognition.
Just a spoiled little brat who after 3 yrs thinks he done something special in this league top demand a caertain level of respect…..

  40. Sorry for the typos….

When cutler said he had a stronger arm than elway and favre, it kinda reminded me of when marbury said he was the best point gaurd in the league how many years back, lol

  41. Listen we all know someone, maybe in the mirror, who can be difficult. We used to say “he just needs his butt whupped once..he will straighten out”, when talking about arrogant people. Especially in sports. Cutler is a good QB withamazing potential. I am sure bart scott would whup the arrogance from any player. If we can get him, go for it!

  42. hey if you can get a probowl QB for lets say the Jets first round pick…you have to make that move.

seriously who can the Jets draft that will be better than Cutler???

  43. I’m not doubting cutler’s capabilities, but some of you speak of him as if he has taken that step into qb greatness and part of the “elite”….after 3yrs?

He put up some nice and decent numbers so far, but what has he done to receive such accilades?..and you wonder why he’s such a snob? Good tutilage from shanahhan and a spread west coast offense can make a lot opf qb’s look good….don’t tell me about bad defense..becuase look at the cards…but what has cutler done in denver? Plummer was good too…

  44. wave, you’re right, Starbury is the better comparison, especially because point guard is supposed to be the QB of an NBA team.

smirf, Stafford, Sanchez, Freeman and maybe somebody else all could be better QBs than Cutler. Stafford has a special arm..Favre like; Freeman has almost exactly the same numbers as Cutler had at Vandy, and Sanchez had more success and accuracy than Cutler had. So, will all 3 be better? Probably not, I’d bet that 1 of them will have similar, if not better, success. Who thought that Flacco and Matty Ice would be in the same conversation with Cutler as one of the best young QBs in the NFL?

  45. Tough one. He has moxie, but maybe to much? Is there such a thing? He is clearly the best of his class, and given the unknowns we have, I’d take him if the price wasn’t to steap. But I think now that Cassell is gone, this is a dead issue. He will be a Bronco next year. But has the damage already been done there?

  46. Not a great comparison to Starbury…..he has been a cancer for years and has had multiple chances to prove otherwise.

The guy has won games with marginal talent and a awful defense. I think you guys are forgetting how awful the Denver defense was.

Last time I checked Big Ben wasnt loved in his locker room either

I dont think we can get him but if we could I would give up 2 #1 to get him…..

  47. If you can get Cutler you go out and do it. I cant believe people are saying not to. Besides Manning and Brady i feel like no1 wants any QB in this league on here. Cutler is Young Big Armed Qb who hasnt even enterd his prime yet. I much rather have cutler then CLemens and Ratlif.

  48. Another concern is why was Josh McDaniels so willing to jettison Cutler? Unlike getting Favre, which was going to be of a limited duration, trading for Cutler means that he is the franchise QB. The trade price and the renegotiated contract for Cutler would be a tremendous investment. I’m wondering whether Cutler is worth it? I didn’t think Cassell was worth it and, maybe, Cutler is as much a “system” QB as Cassell. I mean, Shanny’s offense made Griese and Plummer look like
studs. So, even without his baggage, is Cutler really that good? IMO, he’s too risky.

  49. Freeman’s numbers are not the same at all- he started 12 fewer games, which is a huge difference. Freeman also crapped the bed (and I mean really crapped the bed) whenever he played against top competition, and he never had anything close to the kind of performance Cutler put up against Florida. Stafford’s arm may be special, but it’s not as good as Cutler’s.

As for Flacco and Ryan being in the conversation…they really shouldn’t be, at least not Flacco. Flacco has the tools, but his actual performance last year wasn’t good. (It was good in the sense that he outperformed what anyone should have expected of a D-IAA guy who had no experience playing from under center.) Ryan had one very good year, which was still not as good as Cutler’s, and Cutler has now put together two consecutive seasons where he’s been between a Top 10 and a Top 5 guy despite playing on an offense with very little in the way of top flight talent.

The odds that any of these quarterbacks will prove to be as good as Cutler are not very good. Look at it this way- no quarterback drafted in 2007, 2006 or 2005 is as good as Cutler, and frankly I don’t think any quarterback taken in 2008 is, either. (When it comes down to it, you can make an argument to take Cutler over any of the 2004 class of Manning, Roethlisberger and Rivers, too.)

Cutler is a terrific player. He’s also not available, so this is academic. The only reason he was getting floated was because McDaniels wanted Cassel. Cassel is no longer available, hence neither is Cutler.

  50. Stick with Clemens, Ratliff, Ainge, a draft choice, and maybe some cut veteran. If the Broncos don’t want Cutler, why should we?

  51. Keep in mind, the Broncos know Cutler is a Pro Bowler, and yet they still wanted to trade him for Cassel! That says alot!

I wouldn’t trade for Cutler, the Broncos will ask for too much compensation for him. Remember, Cutler has always been in a position to suceed with the Broncos. They always have a good o-line, decent RBs, and last year they had two awesome wideouts. Also, his old coach, Shannahan, is an offensive genius. So to me Cutler is just as much a “system” QB as Matt Cassel.

  52. Make the trade. If Culter was in the draft right now, wouldn’t take him with the #17 pick. Of course you would. Rex will keep him in line.

  53. seanmac, I know the extra starts means that Cutler has better Lewin numbers and I agree that Freeman didn’t play as well as Cutler against top competition, but Cutler also had some pathetic and I mean really pathetic games at Vandy. So, I agree Cutler is a better prospect…but he’s in a great pro system for QBs. Sorry, but Matty Ice is just better than Cutler..and he plays better in big games. Also, Stafford’s arm is also much, much better than Cutler’s…in fact, it’s not even close. Cutler throws better on the run, but he’s not nearly as good at getting balls in tight windows. I also think Flacco will end up better and, while I’m not a fan, both Quinn and Russell haven’t had the system that Cutler has. Bottom line, Cutler has put up nice numbers in an offense that is perfect for his skill set. Can he be as good in another offense? Who knows. And, I agree, it’s academic.

  54. why is mcdaniel wanting to move cutler a concern?

  55. I don’t want the guy with his medical condition it would be our luck that he get complications and then we gave up picks for nothing. I rather just go with what we got and see what happens.More and more its being proven that you don’t need a class A QB to get where you wanna go. DEFENSE is the key DEFENSE!!

  56. the real kyle, I dont like what you are implying.

  57. VA jets –

there are not too prices that the jets should pay for a QB of this caliber. of course he is not gonna be available now, but in two years, cutler will be a restricted free agent.

i don’t care if the tender is 2 first rds and a third rd pick, he is the #2 player in all of football.

another thing, i don’t care what has written above, because the only believable quote is from chargers players. much like our take on this board about patriots players.

  58. i meant to say that there are not too MANY prices that the jets should NOT pay for this guy

  59. seanmac,

cutler throws for a career high 25 tds last year….great, what do you expect in a gun slinging offense, but dont sit here and tell me cutler is better than phillip rivers….statistically, mentally….whatever. derek anderson threw for 29tds the year before, what he amongst the elite too?

sandiego doesnt even run a spread offense to the magnitude of denver and rivers still put up great numbers with no brandon marshall or eddie royal, plus he “carried” his team without the likes of LT…….to the playoffs!….over the lowley broncos…..cutler has put up good numbers so far but is just his second full season, some of you get so antsy to crown people when they have yet to prove anything……..and before you bring up defense….the chargers defense was a big joke last year, ecpsecially against the pass……so stop bringing up excuses

cutler isnt half the leader rivers is…..

  60. JP, no way would the price be that steep…but I agree one hundred percent. Pay whatever! At most we would be looking at #17 and maybe a conditional pick which could max at 2010 1st for a Superbowl appearance + playing 90% of snaps. Add Cutler and we are better at QB, CB, S, ILB and could address TE, WR, P in draft. If Rex turns Gholston into anything near what we were hoping for we would be Superbowl contenders. BTW, I have been waiting for years for teams to start trading conditional picks in the NFL. I wonder when teams will smarten up and begin to Top 10 protect picks like NBA Teams Lottery protect picks.

  61. losman,

are you reffering to cutler as the second best player in football…….please tell me that was one of your worst jokes

  62. we arent superbowl contenders even with cutler…we arent nearly as good as the pats, colts or the steelers….and our defense isnt THAT good even with the new guys…remember the baltimore defense was lead by ed reed and ray lewis not leanard or ivy or scott so lets not get ahead of ourselves like we did when the team was 8-3

  63. 2nd best player is a stretch. Maybe you are a little too focused on the fact that he looked like the best player in football history against a Jet D-fense that made Seattle’s patchwork o-line look like the Cowboys of the early 90’s and Mo Maurice look like Emmitt Smith.

  64. a stretch!?…..more like a sick joke!…he’s not even top 20 or 30 if you wanna talk about all positions….and he’s not a top 5 quarterback either!….where do you people muster up the courage to make such statements?……thats what 25 tds gets you?…..top 2 rating in the nfl? lmao

  65. Ray Lewis = overrated at this stage of his carreer. There corners don’t matchup with ours. Ed Reed is better than Kerry. HUGE IF Gholston plays anywhere in the same stratosphere as Suggs our backers are at least as good. D-lines are comparable. BTW, funny how KC made Ed Reed and Ray Lewis look ordinary behind a horrendous o-line and with “The man with the hands of stone” as one of his primary targets!

  66. the QB is the most important position in the game. We have a terrible QB situation.

if you can get Cutler for the 1st pick and maybe a conditional pick also then you have to make that move.

Eli was a selfish little arrogant “I wont play for San Diego” and he’s done just fine…

  67. ridinmywave

probably talking about fantasy football as Cutler was top 5 there…

  68. wave -

i m saying that if i was starting a franchise right now, he is the #2 guy i would take behind only tom brady.

  69. JP

    -Ahead of JP Losman?
In all seriousness Larry Fitzgerald, Peyton Manning, Adrian Peterson, Andre Johnson…did I say LARRY FITZGERALD…and I love Cutler but c’mon.

  70. A snippet from the Denver Post link:

‘The Patriots’ offensive system asks its quarterback to make a lot of pre-snap adjustments at the line of scrimmage. The system also includes series of intricately designed pass patterns.

“We were always making adjustments on the sidelines,” Patriots receiver Wes Welker said during Super Bowl week. “As players, you have to be smart enough to understand how to get the adjustments. If you’re not smart enough, you’re going to have a hard time.” ‘

    http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_11810112

Or, the offense will have to be simplified to fit the quarterback with a great arm but a “make it up as we go along” brain.

Sure has a familiar ring to it.

Indeed I seem to recall Schott noting that opposing teams had caught on to and were able to deal with the abridged packages Fauve was only capable of running.

  71. there is NO WAY i take cutler over the lies of peyton manning, tom brady, donavan mcnabb, phillip rivers, big ben, carson palmer, and not even tony romo or matt hasselbeck! lol

tony puts up waay better numbers than cutler, the one thing they have in common though, neither knows how to win when it counts, lmao…..well i know cutler is kind of wet behind the ears, but he ha not made a diffrence since his getting a chance to start…at least romo did

  72. likes*……sorry

  73. wave -

i’m speculating on where i believe cutler will be by the end of the 09 season and for the next ten years. i don t care about bottom line numbers from the past.

the reason i put manning behind cutler in this statement is becasue someday very soon, we’re gonna wake up and see manning is not a top guy anymore and its probably be sooner than later.

live draft4 – i like the guys you talked about with fitzgerald and AP, but when it comes to franschise qb’s for the next ten years, i won t put your guys in the conversation. pure talent wise yes, but drafting from scratch tomorrow, Qb’s are the first 12 picks

  74. its funny how ever since the broncos were somewhat hasty in giving the starting job to cutler to replace plummer….(the team was 7-4 when they did it)
…despite being 13-3 with the snake and they have been nowhere near good ever since….and they aquired walker and drafted scheffler and marshall since cutler was given the reigns……no excuses

  75. The fans that are killing Culter (some who i respect their opinion) are really crazy….This is a dumb argument but not wanting to pay a 1st round price for a clear franchise QB like Cutler is insane.

    Franchise QB
Has produced in the NFL already
Got his crazy AllPro Wr in line when the coaches couldnt
Talks smack to other teams because he is better than they are
We would have picked him in 2006 #4 if we had balls and every fans would be in love with him roght now
Mcdaniels wanted his own guy in their and get ectra picks…This is not new to a new coaching staff

  76. what has changed? the defense wasnt that great when jake plummer was there….i know they lost trevor price but jake had less talent to work with when it comes to recievers as compared to cutler……cutler hasn’t not equated to wins in the nfl……even romo knew how to win….at least in the regular season. lol

denver has gone DOWN HILL since cutler was given the starting job, you cant refute that……its not all to blame on the qb i kno, but if you want to go for individual performances and not wins and losses…..you could make a case to give aaron rodgers the nod over cutler…look at the numbers he put up…..cutlers numbers cant stack up to rodgers…….you would build a franchise around him too? lol

  77. drew,

talks smack to other teams becuase he’s better than they are???

better than who? the broncos have been trash(compared to the previous years) since he’s been qb, lol

whats worst than an unproven winner who talks smack, lmao

i guess you nguys love to praise someone when you cant even follow their accompishments..

how about this, cutler talked smack about the raiders when they won their first match up, when the season first started….FIRST STARTED!…and what happened in the re match?….he got embarsses greatley while the chargers came out of nowhere to to unseat the broncos for the playoffs….who would have fathomed the day that shannahan would loose his job??……its true, cutler CAN do the immpossible, lol

  78. wave –

denver had a plug n play running game that was unstoppable. besides the games vs. bad run D teams, denver has not been able to find that again.

what numbes are you referring too?

  79. meant to say –

denver has not been able to find that again, IN RECENT YEARS

  80. wave

I think youre selling the kid short to make your points. The kid is a legit franchise QB. Somone that every Jet fans would be happy if we drafted at #4 3 years ago….and is now a Pro Bowl QB

I dont care how many playoff games the kid has won. Romo has zero wins with double the talent.

It happen but he would be a steal for the 17th pick…

  81. So let me get this right. Opponents, and the former starting quarterback he replaced don’t like him? That is what this article is about? When I hear about Clady, Marshall, Baily, or any of the half dozen running backs that have played with Cutler say something then it is a story.

Jeff George yelled at his coach during a game, on camera. Brett Favre had a teammate call him out this last year. I think it is a bit early to start all of this anti-Cutler talk.

  82. cutler’s STATS….because thats all he has going for him and i was saying that his numbers last year dont amount up to rodgers’……..

so if yordgers manages to throw at least 20 td’s next year, does that make him an elite qarterback?

i am just saying that alot of people on here are just giving him the nod as an “elite” player just because our qb situatioon isnt really settled, so its common for alotta people to get hasty and make baist comments when they arent even enlightened on the person or what they even bring to the table. im not talkin about you in particular but the man has yet to prove anything and people are crowning him because he made it to the pro bowl??….you know and i know thats BS, people who are more deserving like phillip rivers should have went…but it means little because rivers goes to somewhere where cutler knows nothing about………the playoffs, lol

im not ragging on the guy, i do like his game, but i hate when people love to praise a guy….and its easy to do because our qb situation isnt exactly appealing……….but at the same time the nex guy your so quick to prase hasnt proved anything or won anything and then when that person doesnt perform to the level you expect him too, your so quick to tear them down, i just want more logic and reasoning when people make such hasty statements…………thats all

  83. and its funny how everyones bringin up the case that nobody likes him are complete adversaries but want to leap frog the part about his TEAMMATES not liking him……lmao

ive seen players have dislike for each other on the field, but at least they respect each other and what their capable of….so its funny for an unoroven young kid to come yapping his moth about everybody ad has yet to take his team anywhere or accomplish anything

and i forgot i left out drew brees as another qb that i would easily take over cutler…….

all in all i think alot of you get my drift from my comments, i would probably pass on getting him, ecpsecially at the price some of you are talking…..this would be a new system and not the type of run first offense he is accustomed to(may cry about att), great arm, but a game manager and someone who doesnt turn the ball over and can make the reads is all we need……those werent exactly cutler’s strengths….and im not saying the guys already on the team would be a better option, but not worth over looking at the cost for what it would take to get cutler here.

God forbid we did it and it didnt work out? then what? a couple of first rounders etc. for nothing?…..theres no brandon marshall here for him to throw to (we can use our pick and draft one at 17)……….and the jets even look more shaky and dishonest as a franchise when they run back to clemens or raliff asking them to come pick up the pieces……let the young guys battle it out so we can kill all this specualtion……..draft someone to stretch the field an plug other areas….

  84. lets get cutler

  85. i want kellen to get the chance to prove what he can do. he has had 3 years to learn our offense and now he will also have the benefit of a very strong offensive line.

in 2008 our offense was best when we didnt rely on favre to win the game. all we need to do is run the football and give clemens opportunities here and there to show opposing defenses that they need to respect his arm strength.

    GIVE KELLEN A SHOT!

  86. Cutler is an elite franchise QB, cannon arm, mobility, athleticism, and hes only 25. Anyone who would be against trading for Cutler must be out of their mind.

  87. Although, I can see giving our three QB’s a chance for one to step up — Cutler would be a dream come true. We need a young franchise QB. If we could get him for our number one this year and a number two next year – lock him up and buy your playoff tickets.

  88. Give Denver 2 first round picks, if we get Cutler our draft picks will be at the very end of the first round, believe that

  89. Are you guys still taking about this?! How can anyone not agree with trading for Cutler? No way does Denver trade this guy! I am all for letting Ratty and KC battle it out. I have been behind the concept of run the ball and play defense…but if a 25 franchise QB happens to become available you go all in. Our nucleus of players under 29 yrs old would be Cutler, Leon, D’Brick, Nick, Keller and Cotch on O with Harris, Pace, Gholston, Scott, Rhodes, Revis and Lito on D. The only key positions that we would have to replace for the next 5 years are NT and Power RB. All other postions are complimentary and can be filled with players at end of 1st round or later rounds. That is the position EVERY NFL team strives to be in!

  90. Is there any chance Denver would even want to trade with us? We would be giving them one of our unproven backup QB’s and at least our round 1 pick this year. I can’t see them doing this. The only reason they were willing to trade Cutler was to get a good QB back (Cassel) who McDaniels is familiar with. Unless Cutler really pushes a trade I don’t see any way we can get him. I’d love to see it though.

  91. Cutler is not in the league to be liked, he is in the league to win games for an employer. Reggie Jackson wasn’t well liked by the teams he played on, but he won championships and won over those he played with, if you have a chance to pick up Jay Cutler, its a no brainer, give up the first rounder and a 3 rounder and prepare for the playoffs.

  92. If Cutler is or was as good as you guys think, there is no way in the world that Denver would even consider trading him. The reasoning that Josh want’s to bring in his guy and thus trade Cutler doesn’t really fly because the bottom line is if he doesn’t win games, he a gonner. If Cutler is as some have labled him the second best player in the league, then Josh and the Denver Front Office must be even bigger fools for trying to trade a “proven superstar” for Cassel who only has one productive season under his belt. This make no kind of sense.

  93. Osaigai, I dont think Denver is going to trade Cutler in the end. And yes, the Denver front office must be pretty stupid if they were trying to get rid of Cutler for Cassel

  94. I believe if there is anything to him wanting out, someone in the FO will or has picked up the phone already…
I’m not sure we have what it would take to get him in a trade. I know, I’d want him!!!

  95. Hahahahaha…. Brett Farve made the Pro Bowl too and ya’ll wanted to get rid of him…. But seriously how could we not trade for Cutler if he was available, I like Ratliff but he has not played a single regular season snap, Cutlers been solid…not great but solid….. If you are a run first offense you need a qb who can throw the deep ball to keep the d honest.. Hes 25 y/o and i believe hes got the best arm in the league, every team strives to get a franchise qb so why not trade our 1st for him…. All these mocks have use taking Sanchez….. Pennington was one of the most accurate qbs ever and his arm couldnt cut it in the rough meadowlands winds, what makes you think sanchez can, he doesnt have a “big” arm persay, I think any real jet fan would want this guy… Then again i think Denver would be crazy to deal him and I doubt they will…… Im just saying

  96. I think Jay Cutler is a better QB than either Jake Plummer or Brian Griese. But, look at their numbers in Denver. Jake made the Pro Bowl with Denver and his QB Rating with Denver was 84.3; with Arizona it was 69. Griese also had a Pro Bowl season in Denver and one season he led the NFL in QB Rating at 102.9. So, there’s no doubt that Cutler is more physically talented than those guys, but I worry about 2 things with him: 1) will he be as effective in another offense? and 2) Plummer had a 39-15 record with Denver and Griese a 27-24 record…Cutler’s is 9-12..so, is Cutler a winner? Or, is he still playing like he was at Vandy…good effort and good stats as the losses pile up. Sorry, but I think he’s too risky to pay the huge price it would take to pry him away, unless McDaniels will take KC and a 2nd rounder.

  97. I think Cutler has been a lot better than solid.

In response to Sackdance, Cutlers 9-12 record isnt much of any indication because its over such a short period of time. The teams that Plummer and Griese were playing on had better O-Lines, better runningbacks/running game, and better defenses. Cutler has every tool you would want in a QB, and its only fair to assume that he would be good in any offense. While I would love to trade for Cutler, I dont think Denver would be crazy enough to ever trade such a talented QB.

  98. I heard someone say not worth it?

    NOT WORTH IT?

THIS IS A PRO BOWL QB AT 25. He can be a whimpy as he wants hes a qb. Jets would be lucky if Matt Sanchez dropped to them at 17, and would be luckier if the broncos were dumb enough to actually take the 17th pick for Cutler. Who will have a better career than Sanchez.

Oh Kerry Rhodes doesn’t like him? The same Kerry Rhodes who can’t make open field tackles, and can only int and sack (individual statistic categories)…that out of context quote means sooooo much.

  99. I can see it now, Jay Cutler as quarterback of the New York Jets. Give up that first round draft pick and maybe the second and pull the trigger for a young no non-sense quarterback who is the real deal. Its a no brainer. the media and players as well as coach Ryan will keep this gun slinger sain. Do it please! For the love of God, PULL THAT TRIGGER ! Lets go Jets.
