You all need to settle down. You just got one of the best saftey's out there. Leonhard was ranked 6th in the NFL last year for punt returns yards also. Also ranked 4th in tackles with one of the best defenses in the league! Do not underate him! He is not just a 1 year stand out. He just needed last year to prove what he can bring.

Guys its not just his skill level, but he can help the other players learn the system quicker. Lowery can't cover anyone so he wouldn't work at safety, but why not him compete with Elam, Competition always helps and he has talent.

JAGG, Amen brother!!!! Lowery and Elam as a backup. Let lowery be a cb in the nickle and let either Lito or Revis play in the slot. Are we man crushing on a 5'8" safety? No one had time to throw the deep ball against Baltimore. Draft a safety since you don't need a starter.

Don't see why so many people want this guy so bad. We have Lowery and pretty much a full draft to play with. Why are we crushing on a 5'8 safety who played one good year?

Everyone needs to relax. The only kinds of signings that get wrapped up in a day are the big-name big-money signings. When you're a guy like Jim Leonhard, you don't jump all over the first deal you are offered, because it's not a 5 year $30 million+ offer. It's probably more like 3 years and $8 or 9 million. Give the guy some respect and let him do what is best for him and his family.

And for the people saying to stick with what we have..umm, no? Eric Smith is one hit away from snapping his own neck, and I could beat Elam in a foot race. Someone mentioned don't sign guys to stunt Lowery's growth, well wouldn't switching positions for a 2nd year player be doing the same thing?

I'm all for signing Ivy short-term to play over the slot guys, and Leonhard would be a great addition because he'll be playing full speed from the get-go and not hesitate. The Jets didn't just go into this offseason with one plan of action, every plan has contingencies, and those contingencies have contingencies, so stopppppp worrying.
