Bart Scott Is Violent on the Field

by Bassett on March 2nd, 2009 at 4:28 pm

Due to the snow, Bart Scott was only available to the press on a conference call and it looks like his press conferences will sound a lot like his coaches.

“We won’t back down from anybody. We won’t take a step back from anybody. You can expect to see a very physical, violent defense. I don’t know if this division has ever seen a violent defense. It’s one thing to be physical and make a tackle. It’s another thing to be violent. Violent makes guys stay on the sideline when they’re getting hit… I have no problem talking it. To tell you the truth, you have to shut me up. That’s why I never called the plays, because I was too busy fighting.”

In Cleveland, Mangini reflexively fined Bart Scott for his comments … :P We’ll post the rest when we get a copy …

I can’t wait for next season

  2. avatar Robert06907 says:

I just read this on new jersey online… I loved what I heard. I can’t wait for this season to begin.

  3. avatar AKA....Drew says:

I posted this earlier but it worth mentioning again….Bart Scott said in an interview with Randy Lange of the Jets….

If my mother was wearing the other teams jersey…..I would try and destroy her…

I love this guy already…Watch the Raven games and see who is invleved in every tackle and ummm fight….We have needed a guy like this for years

  4. avatar JesusRevis says:

WOW, im ready to suit up

  5. avatar Chris says:

Agreed. He is definitely going to be the emotional leader.

  6. avatar nyckage says:

Can’t wait for this guy to get violent on Brady’s assand maybe get a cheap one on Belichick , who knows

  7. avatar Kyle "The Young Jet" says:

DAMN I love his attitude.. Anybody know when training camp start I know its in July but I need an exact date.

  8. avatar Alon says:

I’m sitting in class laughing in enjoyment reading about this guy.

  9. avatar Dan in Ok says:

    nyckage,
Thats what i’m also hoping for, although i never thought of the cheap shot on belichick. That would be awesome!

  10. avatar nyganggreen12 says:

he’s a badd baddd man. if you watch him coming off the corner and destroying ben roetlisberger last year i envision that as tom brady this year

  11. avatar Lox says:

This is exactly what the Jets defense needed. An emotional vocal leader to lead them into battle. (literally)

All of the “so-called” experts question the amount of money invested in Bart Scott, but they forget to value the intangibles that Scott brings to the table. On top of his vocal leadership – he knows Rex’s system and knows the expectations that Rex has of his players and can help translate those to the team. Oh yeah – forgot to mention that he is only 27 and going into the prime of his career.

What were the Jets thinking signing him to such a big deal?

    Great move Tanny/Rex!!!

  12. avatar sjfalcon2001 says:

I’m ready to go!! AFCE better watch out for us!!

By the way Bassett, nice dig @ Mangini. It gave me a chuckle.

  13. avatar Doug from Long Valley says:

Let’s hope this guy rubs off on some of our other players, like #56

  14. avatar steviek says:

wow. hope the guy is good at separating on-field bart and off-field bart.

  15. avatar Liam says:

Love the Mangini jab, perfect. You get the sense that if nothing else this team is going to be a lot looser and a lot more fun to watch (and probably be a member of).

  16. avatar SackDance99 says:

Sometimes UFA acquisition that are seemingly overpaid never live up to the expectations. If Bart’s bite is worse than his bark, my PSL money will be well spent.

  17. avatar Kyle "The Young Jet" says:

Doug from Long Valley- Im pretty sure it will rub off on Vernon because Alan’s attitude was rubbing of on D’Brick

  18. avatar starz31 says:

The same was said when Rex was hired…if Rex (and now Bart) cant straighten out Vernon…nobody will be able to…

    and I think they can

The big knock on Vernon is supposedly his motor and passion…id say thats exactly what Rex and Bart bring to this team…

If Vernon can have an impact next year that will be a huge addition on our defense

  19. avatar bringbacktestaverde16 says:

aka drew…. he stole that line from Bo Jackson

  20. avatar john r says:

its such a 180 and yes its great. i mean i cant wait until scott crushes brady then on the next play harris destroys brady

i think last year the jets just lost there heads and eric couldnt pick them back up. with ryan i think he will get in peoples faces and have the leaders backing him up.

  21. avatar JesusRevis says:

Anyone hear any of these rumors about the Jets trading for Braylon Edwards?

  22. avatar gsteigs says:

i hear brandon edward rumors everywhere the giants jets seatlle i would like to get that rumor though lol

  23. avatar JesusRevis says:

Newsday had a little blurb about it, Braylon Edwards for David Harris. I dont even think I would want to do that

  24. avatar starz31 says:

what are the rumors? I’ll go drive and pick up Braylon myself, thats the kind of WR need…

I’d trade our 2nd round straight up for him.

  25. avatar Rick says:

The Edwards rumor started when some as s wipe decided to impersonate a reporter and he hacked into the newspapers computers and blogged about the possible trade. It was phony. Unfortunately.

  26. avatar starz31 says:

david harris? ahhhh…i dont know about that.

Yea…I dont see Mangini helping us…although maybe Tanny is still boys with the Penguin and we could work out a trade alla Belicheat with Pioli

  27. avatar Chris says:

    Revis.

I had read about the Giants putting together a package and Seattle inquiring but I agree- no way we send him for Harris.

I would give them a 3rd and 6th rounder for him. Then, trade down in rd 1, hoping Sanchez is there and somebody wants him and try to pick up a 3rd rounder. Then late Rd 1, maybe look at Tyson Jackson since the Wr is shored up.

But I think this is too hypotethical as this point. The bottom line is still the same I guess, we need a starting Wr and De. We get one now, the other in Rd 1.

  28. avatar AKA....Drew says:

The Edwards-Harris rumor was started out of a Cleveland blog site…..I think those rumors were squashed on Friday night….

I dont see Mangini giving us a All Pro WR for a Often injured (all be it a stud) MLB.

  29. avatar Harvlis says:

I heard Scott on an interview. He was asked if he could get up some hate for the Patriots. He said that he was flagged during a Patriot game and fined $25K. He is ready to tear them apart. You gotta love this guy. Finally, some emotion. Put Gholston under this guy’s wing and let him get fired up.

  30. avatar starz31 says:

Tell Gholston to follow him around everywhere he goes and to listen to everything he says.

Kind of funny to think Gholston gets millions guranteed as a rookie while Bart Scott got a $500 bonus for signing as a rookie

  31. avatar starz31 says:

youtube bart scott…you’ll see one video of him knocking out Big Ben on a unprotected strong side blitz..

The other top video is of him throwing a ref’s flag into the stands (vs. New England)…lmao

  32. avatar Andrew Weiss says:

The best part of all this is that i’m no longer worried about how the other team is going to play us. If we can get nasty on defense, we’ll dictate the pace of the game. We haven’t had that since…anybody?

  33. avatar Mad Dog Mo says:

    to borrow a line…

I bet after this guys sacks a QB, he goes after his family.

Back Up QBs of the AFC East beware…Bart is coming for you too!

  34. avatar DKnyj says:

Bart Scott is Mike Tyson in a football uniform. He will eat your children.

All the anger that we feel as frustrated Jets fans will be released upon opponents by Bart Scott and the D. I won’t have to rip off my jersey, open my front door and throw it onto the front lawn anymore!

I always wait top pick a jersey… (Wise decision with Favre) I am pre-ordering a bart scott jersey now. Right now.

  35. avatar Igs says:

So right now San Fran is the wild card for Sanchez. The mocks n them vary widely from taking a DL, an Ol, or a QB. Any speculaton as to where they go?

  36. avatar Kyle "The Young Jet" says:

HAHA DKnyj and Mad Dog Mo..
And him throwing that flag made me laugh more than worried me.

  37. avatar Chris B. says:

With Edwards’ concussions, one hit from Scott may knock him out of the league lol. Brady’s knee – back to rehab. Pennington, swimming with the fishes.

Scott’s gonna wipe out the AFCE and I’m lovin’ it!

  38. avatar Electric Ham says:

    T.J. Houshmandzadeh-WR-Seahawks Mar. 2 – 6:13 pm et

Seahawks signed WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh to a five-year, $40 million contract. The deal includes $15 million in guarantees.

Seattle had an edge over the Bengals and Vikings because it’s closest to Houshmandzadeh’s L.A. home, but GM Tim Ruskell still overpaid. While Housh has more catches than anyone over the last four years and figures to have 2-3 strong seasons left, going five years with this much guaranteed on a wideout who’ll be 32 in September is extremely risky. Housh is also going to a more balanced offense that won’t play from behind as much as the Bengals. He’ll be Seattle’s No. 1 receiver, but will have to learn a West Coast offense and is unlikely to approach the 90-reception mark again.

Look for Crabtree to fall which might give us a good chance at getting Maclin or hopefully we could jump up and grab Crabtree.

  39. avatar JesusRevis says:

Drew, Harris cant be considered “often injured” just because he got hurt last year. I would not want to part with any o our young talented players for Braylon Edwards, but I would trade draft picks for him. I was assuming it was all rumors, I just wanted to hear if anyone heard anything about it. Im petty sure Mangini and Mike Tannenbaum still have a good relationship, and since Mangini was always a big fan of Harris maybe he would be willing to swing a deal with the Jets, but I would hope the Jets wouldnt let DH go.

  40. avatar ronnie says:

jason taylor was cut by the redskins today.

Anybody know if he has experience in the 3-4 or if hes well suited to play in it?

It seems like he has the size to do well…can rush and if need be drop back in coverage (plenty of schemes you can use with him)

  41. avatar gsteigs says:

ya lets go and get a top rated lb then go trade the other top rated ld if we did that it will be a wash DUH

  42. avatar Bent says:

Hmmm. Surely Coles can get 3 years 20m and 8m guaranteed from someone then.

Igs – Look for the Niners to perhaps covet Raji. They’ve been after a nose for ages and have a “thing” for people who do well at the Senior Bowl.

  43. avatar Bent says:

ronnie – I saw that and thought it had Patriots written all over it. He’d be a 3-4 OLB and, I’d imagine, a pretty good one at that, health issues notwithstanding.

  44. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    Jesus…

Dont get me wrong I’m a Michigan fan and I love both players but I am a little worried about Harris staying healthy…he did miss a bunch if time last year if I’m not mistaken he got hurt in the last game of the year…

Let Talyor go to the Pats…It will be great we hate him he hates us… a perfect match!!

  45. avatar nyckage says:

Good news people TJ whosyourmomma signed wit seatle, so they will pass on Crabtree, so ever was gonna go after Mackiln will get Crabtree and we can get Macklin, at the very least our chances of getting Macklin is higher, although I’m against taking a WR in the 1st RD, if we are taking one take him over another guy besides crabtree

  46. avatar Kyle "The Young Jet" says:

    Jason Taylor was really cut?
And I say we try either three things with that 17th pick trade it for Jay Cutler, If Matt Stafford isnt there(which he wont) and the third being the last resort getting the Receiver..(which I remind you can easily be busts)

  47. avatar John says:

“i cant wait until scott crushes brady then on the next play harris destroys brady”
    YESSS

  48. avatar gsteigs says:

young jet they are ALL maybe a bust nothing new there

  49. avatar JesusRevis says:

Drew, any injury history for Harris while at Michigan?

  50. avatar Fred says:

    Revis-
“A knee injury forced Harris to redshirt as a freshman, as the rehabilitation took nearly two years. He played sparingly during the next two seasons and didn’t become a full-time starter until his junior year. Harris started to flash signs that he could be an NFL player when he led the Wolverines with 88 tackles in 2005, and improved on those numbers with 103 tackles during his senior season.” -article on NFL.com a while back.

  51. avatar JesusRevis says:

    Thanks Fred

  52. avatar Kyle "The Young Jet" says:

gsteigs- your just more likely to get a bust at receiver than most other positions.

  53. avatar Chris says:

Fred. I was just about to prepare a similar write up.

Yea, Revis- the knee injury Harris had that forced him to redshirt nearly forced him off the field for good and as Fred mentioned, he had no impact on the field for the Wolverines for nearly 2 yrs.

I love Harris more than anyone. I think he is the classic ILB- has great speed, is not afraid to stick his nose in and can cover sideline to sideline. But I’d be lying if I weren’t concerned about injuries.

To be honest, I think we’ll get an amazing 2-3 yrs from him but I don’t have hopes he’ll anchor our defense for the next 8-10 yrs.

  54. avatar hank/naples says:

    Guys, Guys, Guys:

I love this guy’s enthusiasm, BIG in the lockeroom, but you must realize he had LEWIS, and SUGGS next to him.

  55. avatar geoff says:

Ghoulston must be crapping his pants. (Good!)

  56. avatar Chris says:

Hank- for a couple yrs why can’t Pace and Harris be those guys in this defense?

It wouldn’t be a Chris post though without saying…go get a DE!! Mike Montgomery??

  57. avatar LamJones says:

Oh. My. God. I’m terrified B-Scott is coming to get me through my interwebs for thinking he wasn’t worth the money. I love you brother, my bad.

If the USC kids are off the board at 17, and if the QBs or WRs we’ve talked about are still on the board, I’d love to trade the pick and move back in the draft. I’m not sure there is a huge drop off from 17 to 30.

One more thing. Although RB isn’t really a need, I kinda think Beanie Wells is going to be a great, punishing player.

  58. avatar AKA....Drew says:

    Revis…

Fred beat me to my response…..Nice work Fred

He has had a few injuries at Michigan also.. I just hope he can stay on the field

  59. avatar Chris says:

    USC players?!

Would you really take one of those linebackers at 17 with our Wr needs, possible Rb depth, or even a CB/ DE/ OT??

  60. avatar Igs says:

    Thanks Bent.

    Guys, imo

We’re wasting enough money on Thomas. I wouldn’t want Taylor unless Thomas was gone.

Seahawks may pass on Crabtree if they signed Housh. But I doubt if he gets past undead Al.

  61. avatar Bent says:

Montgomery lacks ideal size for a 3-4 DE.

I wouldn’t want Taylor no matter what. And I don’t think there’s a cat in hell’s chance he would sign for the Jets either. Frankly, I’d rather continue to pay Bryan Thomas than to have to root for that guy.

  62. avatar gsteigs says:

i think the chiefs take crabtree and raiders go for macklin

  63. avatar AKA....Drew says:

The Housh deal helps us and our boy Coles…Housh signing might let both top WR’s fall…I still dont think either will get near 17 but like I said earlier it gives up options….let that USC QB fall #17 he will be valuable for teams behind us…

Coles should go kiss the Seatlle GM….He probably just made him some money from Buffalo or Cincy

  64. avatar starz31 says:

maybe about beanie..he;s young so that is less carries already on him…but I dont think he’s what we need unless hes there in the 2nd round

I would take Maclin with #17….I’d be happy with Bey also, but he may last for a little, if thats the case maybe trade back for him.

I think Maclin or Bey would be great additions.
Although, if Crabtree is going to drop…I think a trade-up must be entertained…some people have him as the #1 athelete in the draft…and regardless of his foot injury, he is the best WR available, and I don’t forsee him as a bust…at all.

  65. avatar gsteigs says:

i hope that leaves us w/ hicks( i think thats his name )

  66. avatar dade county jets fan says:

vonnie holiday got cut by the dolphins……he could be a decent stop gap player opposite sean ellis at DE…..anybody hear if the jets are interested??

  67. avatar Chris says:

Montgomery is 6’5 275. I’m pretty sure he can pack on the 10lbs difference between him and Ellis and be more effective.

Makes no sense. If the guy were 6’2 260, I’d see your point but this a DT tweener, don’t understand how he lacks size for a 3-4 end when he basically the same size as our current two starters.

  68. avatar starz31 says:

I would love to entertain a trad for Braylon as well…he’s the kind of talent we need at WR (size, speed, and athleticism). I know he had a bad year in 08, but I think that will be an exception in his career…he’s the real deal.

Harris is not expendable, no way. The Bart scott signing has much more value with Harris next to him. The dual “MIKE” possibilities cannot be understated.

  69. avatar Chris says:

Holliday is up there in years, not the guy we need.

  70. avatar gsteigs says:

nate washinton from the steelers signed w the titians

  71. avatar david i says:

I hope everyone realizes how refreshing these changes are compared to the Mangini days. I just listed to the taped conference call with Bart Scott. As a fan, it is great to be able to hear these guys. Under Mangini, these guys weren’t even introduced to the media and fans, whether they came in as FA or after the draft. It really sucked.

Now its open door policy, great war stories, etc. Ryan not only nrings hope, but he brings a great feeling that makes it enjoyable to be a fan of this team. The only other time we have had that with a coach, was with Tuna. This is a great time to be a Jets fan. Soak it up.

Based on the way Scott spoke, I can’t imagine Leonhard and Ivy won’t be signing after they find out their real market value.

  72. avatar Bent says:

Chris – all I said was that he lacks ideal size. So, if he would be able to bulk up effectively, like you said, then maybe that’s the answer.

However, I would ideally rather have someone closer to 295 than 285 and wouldn’t be surprised if that was closer to the weight Ellis played at last year.

Are you talking about him as a replacement for Ellis though? If you are thinking of replacing Coleman, then that would be two undersized ends.

  73. avatar ben says:

Can sumone please tell me where i could hear the scott conference call

  74. avatar Chris says:

Bent, I actually like Coleman. High motor- plays a bit above his ability but there is room for guys like that. Especially with our Lb’s and next to Jenkins. Shoring up that other DE spot would only help.

Yea, I like Ellis on our team, as a rotational player but honestly, I think he’s done being a starter.

A guy like Montgomery could start opposite Coleman with Ellis spelling him on 3rd downs. Then possibly Montgomery could go in a DT rotation, as he’s versatile, hopefully also with the drafting of Moala.

  75. avatar dan says:

by the way bart scott was the guy that rocked chad in the playoffs against the ravens when he threw the pick to ed reed and he took it to the house and he blasted the chad real bad its the hit where he came up with the grass in his helmet everywhere

  76. avatar klecko71 says:

    dan….that hit was v-i-o-l-e-n-t.

the overall attitude of this team is gonna be fun to watch.

Get some depth….backup for jenkins please!!

  77. avatar jim says:

mangini to ryan, wow, thats like bush to obama, not sayin mangini wasnt a good coach but his team didnt play with any swagger at all.. wow this is a new jets culture

  78. avatar Igs says:

Yeah, it’s going to be really fun to watch this team. It was fun last year with the old man, but we’re going to see our guys dictating a lot more on D. But be wary. Remember what the Ravens achilles hill is. This is the era of the 99 rams. it’s not sufficient to just have a lockdown defense anymore, if that’s what we get.

  79. avatar Brendan says:

“it’s not sufficient to just have a lockdown defense anymore,” umm….what? What kind of defense would you prefer? I’m confused. Steelers just won with the best defense in the league. Era of the 99 rams? Don’t think so…

  80. avatar dan says:

    http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80efb97e

the hit on chad pennington go to 1:00 to watch he gets blasted

  81. avatar Igs says:

    Brenadn,

Sufficient as in 1. there are teams that just plain need to be outpointed because they can’t be locked down. 2. We need to also have an adequate, no, dangerous offense to keep that defense off the field.

The Ravens are constantly hamstrung by their inability to produce points. And actually won that 2000 chip by injuring 2 straight QBs and then destroying a Giant team that was made out of paper.

  82. avatar Brendan says:

    Igs,

Our offense did fine last year, I’m pretty sure it was in the top 5 in team history in terms of points per game. Rex wants to control the clock, pound the ball, and knock people on their asses. The Steelers offense isn’t exactly the ’99 rams, and neither was the Giants the year before that. Defense wins championships, not offense. Go back, year by year, I guarantee more teams with good defenses and average offenses won than good offenses but adequate defenses. It’s a fact of life, offense wins games, but defense wins championships.

  83. avatar Igs says:

lol. Brendan, it’s funny the liberties that you take with my statements. You would think that I was knocking the team by saying I hope Tanny also is able to prioritize the offense. You’re kind of missing the point I think.

The Steelers didn’t have to be the 99 ramms or the 07 Patriots. But they had a good and capable offense to match that nasty D. Our offense was not okay last season. Once defenses figured out that there was no outside threat they were able to key in on the box and push Favre around. Our defenses was living on the field. Even the nastiest defense on earth will fail without offensive support.

  84. avatar Brabble says:

    gsteigs

I think you mean Hakeem Nicks?

  85. We are all building up this team at this point too much is still indecided. First year coach, no starting caliber qb, yet at least. Last year bringing in all the big names helped but was no where close to expectations. I say go for cutler he is worth more than any qb they have now and or get via draft. I don’t blame him for being pissed, imagine you went to work one day to find out your expendable. The defense will be very good, but you need and offense to keep defense fresh, they will wear down by years end, same as last year. Another pennington type will not work. I think a clear starting qb is a must with bringing these free agents you send the wrong message with rookie qb. Also no one on the jets has the talent to be a matt Ryan of flacco especially in afc east.

  86. avatar jetfavre says:

Antonio Cromartie on the block. crazy dream. never happening. but a man can dream. Love that guy. thoughts?

  87. avatar Brendan says:

Whatever. I’m not taking liberties with your statements, if anything I’m being too literal. The Jets scored more points last year than almost every other season of their history. Their strength was running the ball, and that’s what Rex wants to do. You don’t need to have a great offense and a great defense. As long as you do whatever you effectively you can win. If the jets run the ball and play defense, they can win a championship. I just don’t understand where the argument is coming from.

  88. avatar Fred says:

Igs our offense was so terrible that Thomas Jones led the AFC in rushing and Leon Washington averaged just 5.9 YPC last year? Not to mention Dustin keller looks like he’ll be a premier receiving TE, Cotchery is Cotchery, Stuckey’s first year in uniform was solid, and Clowney has the potential to be a star. And of yea, our O-line returns in the same form.

  89. avatar Jet QB says:

Great move, but we can’t win without a QB …..and we don’t have anyone as it stands …..Clemens sucked and had the worst QB rating the year he played …. Ratliff hasn’t taken a snap in the NFL ….Ainge was a 4th or 5th round pick …..give me a break. Bart Scott can’t play QB or offense for that matter.

What about going after someone in free agency at QB?

  90. avatar Igs says:

Uhhhh, did you guys actually watch the last 5 games??? Everytime our defense got us the ball back we 3 and outed or threw an into. That means your offense has a problem, no matter how many yards we ran for. i mean… is this rocket science? Am I talking some far out stuff by saying that we need to produce better offensively?

  91. avatar Brendan says:

MAYBE, and this is completely speculation on my part, just maybe, our starting QB playing with detached tendon’s in his throwing arm might have an affect on our offense. I’m pretty sure that our offense’s strength (running) was abandoned in almost all of those last 5 games. MAYBE it was the coaching, that affected our offense. The strength of our offense is running the ball. We do it better than almost anybody, and another year with the same line can only improve. Lgs, let it go, it’s ok to be wrong sometimes.

  92. avatar Igs says:

lol. suuuuuure Brendan. All those things factored in of course. But our inability to diversify once defenses figured out our gameplan was the biggest factors. No excuses, one of the things you have to do when you have an old man QB, hurt or not, is give him the weapons to draw defenders out of the box and limit their blitzing capabilities, a la Plaxico Burress.

I think with Keller developing and Neon Leon getting some more action that’s a good start. And figuring out what we’re gonna do at QB is a good start. But we need to be able to pen up tis offense a little more and adjust to what defenses are doing to us on the field.

  93. avatar Brendan says:

You kept talking about adjusting. Well, it’s not players that do the adjusting, that’s coaching. Maybe Mangini and Schotty needed to adjust and maybe put clowney in to stretch the field. Not much changed in the last 5 games other than favre’s injury and poor coaching. We were scoring on long plays in the beginning of the year with guys like Cotchery, Stuckey, and Leon. So I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the coaching crippled this team down the stretch.

I’m not saying we have the best offense in football, I’m saying we have the kind of offense Rex feels he can win with. That’s what I care about. We have Keller to work the middle of the field and he can get to the next level in a hurry. Cotchery, Stuckey, and Clowney all can go deep. Leon can take a handoff and scamper 80 yards for a score. Maybe, a QB who limits his mistakes and only has to throw 15 times a game will be a good thing.

  94. avatar Igs says:

Is there a name for this world yo line in Brendan. Whatever guy, obviously you need a good argument for the night. I think most fan would agree that we could still do some things to open up this offense. And coaches can only adjust to the talent level on the field but you go on with your dilluisions.

  95. avatar Brendan says:

I just said I am aware we don’t have the best offense in the world. I don’t know what you’re getting at. No one is above improvement, but I’m a firm believer in defense winning championships, which is why I first made a point to disagree with you. Don’t take it personally that I don’t think you can score your way to a championship (even thought it’s a provable fact that you can’t).

Let me remind us all. that we are on thejetsblog.com…. you know,`that site where jets fans from all over come to see whats new and interesting with our New York Jets… the team that is very up on teamwork and having eachothers backs… what is with the arguing people!?

We don’t need a Qb like Cutler, horrible attitude and hasn’t even showed the ability to win in big spots. I understand their defense was horrible but so was that division. And he had some offensive weapons, not exactly the crew Elway had to work with early on.

So, let’s quit that talk- he’s not coming nor do we want him. I’m confident Brett Ratliff can at least mirror the production of a guy like Joe Flacco, or possibly even Pennington. That has shown good enough to get into the playoffs. If we get him a guys like Nicks, we have speed, possession, strength and height at the offensive skill positions. That should be enough.

The focus then still remains on the defense…have Sheppard and Scott been enough. They’ve been a helluva an improvement but there is work to be done. In Free Agency, we must seek a DE. Now that Canty is off the market, let’s focus on Montgomery from Green Bay. Young, versatile DL guy who is strong against the run and will add another component on a different level of the defense. Then, to continue an effort to bolster the DL, we need to draft Moala should he make our slot in Rd 3. I also like the word of bringing in Bowens, he’s a mean dude who knows the system and can help huge on specials as well. If the cap allows, I don’t think its a priority but I wouldn’t be opposed to Leonhard or Ivy to keep the secondary strong at this point. But they must come cheap.

So, for fellas like Mr Coldbeers above and many others, lay the Cutler stuff to rest. We have other holes to fill and let’s see Ratliff win this thing over the summer and lead this Jets team. Let someone else deal with Cutler and his whiny attitude.

You mean Pace like Suggs and Harris like Lewis?…….uh, I don’t think so, no.
Maybe if Harris can be half as dominating as Lewis WAS.

    chris –

please, i really need to know what evidence you have that could confirms your confidence in brett ratlif.

what could possibly make you believe brett ratliff is a franchise QB or for that matter could be as productive as pennington? (pennington averages just below 10 wins a year as a starter BTW)

if your completely throwing jay culter of your list of QB’s that the jets need just because he is a perceived whiny guy, then it may be time to stop listening to the likes of colin cowert or jay marrotti and other dopes at ESPN. dont buy into those guys. its their job to blow stuff up!

    the reason culter continues to be debated on this board is because;

    1. jay culter is a franchise QB and regardless of your beliefs in ratliff, WE LACK ONE.

    2. the jets made a serious offer for him two days ago.

    3. tannebaum has made several inquires for the guy in the past year or so

    4. he is a restricted FA in two years. our crafty/cap genuis of a GM will most likely put us in position to get him

    5. we passed on him to take brick a fews years back and many on this board were calling for him then, including myself. ( although i ‘ll admit to liking vince young just as much)

Ray Lewis dominating? Tell that to Brandon Jacobs on the goal line.

While Ray Ray is one of my all time favorite players, he is and has not been the same guy he was in the early to mid 2000′s. His defense feeds more off of his intensity and effort than his actual production, we definitley got the right Raven for the Jets in this deal
