Ray Lewis dominating? Tell that to Brandon Jacobs on the goal line.

While Ray Ray is one of my all time favorite players, he is and has not been the same guy he was in the early to mid 2000's. His defense feeds more off of his intensity and effort than his actual production, we definitley got the right Raven for the Jets in this deal

chris -

please, i really need to know what evidence you have that could confirms your confidence in brett ratlif.

what could possibly make you believe brett ratliff is a franchise QB or for that matter could be as productive as pennington? (pennington averages just below 10 wins a year as a starter BTW)

if your completely throwing jay culter of your list of QB's that the jets need just because he is a perceived whiny guy, then it may be time to stop listening to the likes of colin cowert or jay marrotti and other dopes at ESPN. dont buy into those guys. its their job to blow stuff up!

the reason culter continues to be debated on this board is because;

1. jay culter is a franchise QB and regardless of your beliefs in ratliff, WE LACK ONE.

2. the jets made a serious offer for him two days ago.

3. tannebaum has made several inquires for the guy in the past year or so

4. he is a restricted FA in two years. our crafty/cap genuis of a GM will most likely put us in position to get him

5. we passed on him to take brick a fews years back and many on this board were calling for him then, including myself. ( although i 'll admit to liking vince young just as much)

Chris:

You mean Pace like Suggs and Harris like Lewis?.......uh, I don't think so, no.
Maybe if Harris can be half as dominating as Lewis WAS.

We don't need a Qb like Cutler, horrible attitude and hasn't even showed the ability to win in big spots. I understand their defense was horrible but so was that division. And he had some offensive weapons, not exactly the crew Elway had to work with early on.

So, let's quit that talk- he's not coming nor do we want him. I'm confident Brett Ratliff can at least mirror the production of a guy like Joe Flacco, or possibly even Pennington. That has shown good enough to get into the playoffs. If we get him a guys like Nicks, we have speed, possession, strength and height at the offensive skill positions. That should be enough.

The focus then still remains on the defense...have Sheppard and Scott been enough. They've been a helluva an improvement but there is work to be done. In Free Agency, we must seek a DE. Now that Canty is off the market, let's focus on Montgomery from Green Bay. Young, versatile DL guy who is strong against the run and will add another component on a different level of the defense. Then, to continue an effort to bolster the DL, we need to draft Moala should he make our slot in Rd 3. I also like the word of bringing in Bowens, he's a mean dude who knows the system and can help huge on specials as well. If the cap allows, I don't think its a priority but I wouldn't be opposed to Leonhard or Ivy to keep the secondary strong at this point. But they must come cheap.

So, for fellas like Mr Coldbeers above and many others, lay the Cutler stuff to rest. We have other holes to fill and let's see Ratliff win this thing over the summer and lead this Jets team. Let someone else deal with Cutler and his whiny attitude.

I just said I am aware we don't have the best offense in the world. I don't know what you're getting at. No one is above improvement, but I'm a firm believer in defense winning championships, which is why I first made a point to disagree with you. Don't take it personally that I don't think you can score your way to a championship (even thought it's a provable fact that you can't).

Is there a name for this world yo line in Brendan. Whatever guy, obviously you need a good argument for the night. I think most fan would agree that we could still do some things to open up this offense. And coaches can only adjust to the talent level on the field but you go on with your dilluisions.

You kept talking about adjusting. Well, it's not players that do the adjusting, that's coaching. Maybe Mangini and Schotty needed to adjust and maybe put clowney in to stretch the field. Not much changed in the last 5 games other than favre's injury and poor coaching. We were scoring on long plays in the beginning of the year with guys like Cotchery, Stuckey, and Leon. So I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the coaching crippled this team down the stretch.

I'm not saying we have the best offense in football, I'm saying we have the kind of offense Rex feels he can win with. That's what I care about. We have Keller to work the middle of the field and he can get to the next level in a hurry. Cotchery, Stuckey, and Clowney all can go deep. Leon can take a handoff and scamper 80 yards for a score. Maybe, a QB who limits his mistakes and only has to throw 15 times a game will be a good thing.

lol. suuuuuure Brendan. All those things factored in of course. But our inability to diversify once defenses figured out our gameplan was the biggest factors. No excuses, one of the things you have to do when you have an old man QB, hurt or not, is give him the weapons to draw defenders out of the box and limit their blitzing capabilities, a la Plaxico Burress.

I think with Keller developing and Neon Leon getting some more action that's a good start. And figuring out what we're gonna do at QB is a good start. But we need to be able to pen up tis offense a little more and adjust to what defenses are doing to us on the field.
