Albert Breer reports on The Sporting News site that the Jets are interested in Howard Green (6-2, 320 lbs) formerly a DT for the Seahawks, Saints and Ravens. Green has ties to Green when he played in Baltimore shortly in 2002. Green has been in and out of the league since then, but could be an interesting backup for the Jets. The Jets need a two-gapper to spell Jenkins at times. Green is good at run support, but not much else. He has strength but little speed or pursuit ability.
If used in a designated fashion, I think he could add some depth to the Jets on run plays. As good as Jenkins was, he was ground down by the end of the season and he needs someone who can spell him on a few more run plays during the course of a game. The Browns have also made inquiries, so let the secondary free agent bidding wars ensue!

If we can get him on special, do it, he is an upgrade on our depth chart, and yes he is a wall on run support, not much of a pass rusher, he has a place on the field.

Doesnt excite me. but sounds like a smart move. come on. who would any defensive player play for. a crappy brown team coached by mangina. or rex ryan.. hopefully we can get him for cheap.
-
I’m so glad that they finally decided to address the need to back-up “BIG” Kris Jenkins. Last season was an eye opener, because by week 13 Jenkins ran out of gas.
As John Madden would say I love the fat guys, becuse when you hit them “BOOM”!
-
do we need a two gapper to back up jenkins? i believe that ryan plays a lot of one gap 3-4, like the way wade phillips does. that’s why they can use kelly gregg (balt) and jay ratliff (dallas) at nose even though both of them are relatively small for 3-4 NT’s.
-
Pouha is and always was terrible. He lines up one yard back all the time which makes no sense for a nose tackle whos main goal should be to disrupt the middle. Then he never gets any push and never commands a double team.
I can’t say I really know anything about Howard Green but i assume anyone is better than pouha

I think we are better off re-signing Mosely! Howard doesn’t speak well for the Jets!!
-
Rex does mix up his defense alot, I would expect to see Pace on the line more often than not. I dont think it was the same nose that Wade Phillips would use because Gregg isnt nearly as athletic as Ratliff. When they drafted Ngata they planned on using him at nose but they went against conventional wisdom and used Greggs strength even though undersized at NT and let Ngata;s athletisism even though oversized at End.
Regardless of what style of line they have, the Jets defnitely need more interior lineman who can stop the run!

Guys talk up how we should get Torry Holt!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Torry Holt has requested to be released by the Rams.
The Rams have found no takers while shopping Holt, likely because the rest of the league knows they won’t pay his $1.25M roster bonus on March 17. Failing to exercise the bonus would terminate Holt’s contract and make him a free agent. The Rams probably aren’t going to get anything for him. Mar. 4 – 7:02 pm et

why holt? i want crabtree or maclin. or harvin. in that order. oh and bolding thrown in there.. andwhere in there as long as his name is ahead of holt’s. dont get me wrong, guys a great player. and has had a solid career. i just dont see it as the right move.

boldin*

Ok, good point…So we would trade for Boldin? If that is the case we would have to give up picks…I rather just sign Holt as a free agent and not give up the picks.
As far as rookies…I agree with you.

The Jets desperately need a quality complement to Jenkins and anyone who watches the Jets objectively knows that Pouha is not it. However, let’s set some higher standards than this journeyman. I would rather take a chance on a draft pick that can develop (Roy Miller of Texas for example-an absolute Joe Klecko type).
-
This would be a great pickup, we need a backup DT to take about 20% of the snaps. This is our number one need at this point either sign him or Gabe Watson!
-
I trust REX has a good sense of the guys he needs on defense and is filling our holes on defense with guys he have seen play and like.
Looking foward, we should focus on Offensive needs in the draft. Tanenbaum here’s a thought: get on the phone and convince your boy mangina he needs to trade up to our spot in the draft, we will get both their second round picks (#36 & #50) giving us three picks in the second round! (We already have #52)
There is plenty of offensive depth in the draft this year to really hit big in the second round!
-
Why no interest in Tank Johnson? He can play, and is definetely better than Pouha. We nees to find DL.
-
the jets need to consider getting 2-3 defensive lineman on the 55 man roster by the start of next season. we obviously need a monster DE opposite Ellis and then we need to address another big 340 lb guy to back up jenkins. then one more guy to add depth to the DL preforably another DE.
-
after that our D is solid….
-
Too bad 340 lbs ers don’t grow on trees.
-
i dont know… one year deal at most
-
yea but the jets could get a good sized guy to add to their line that wont cost a fortune and will be a solid backup
-
What about Branson McKinney? His is the same size and played for Rex last year!
-
Brandon McKinney,sorry.

He was out of the league 2005 and 2006, and now Seattle cut him, with Rocky headed to the Giants, how scary is that….What does this say about Pouha ???
But run stuffers are in short supply, Grady Jackson 14 year vet at 380 or something just signed a two year deal at 34…. Okay Rex use your charm and sign this guy to vet minimum, Mangini is your competition
