After last week’s unbelievable 13 hour chat marathon (no, I am not kidding), let’s open up the gates again for the TJB Chat.
I’ll be along in at 1:30pm, but the doors are open now. Behave yourselves!

So would everyone agree that we are about 10 million under the cap right now with all signings official and incentives paid?
Who thinks Kerry Rhodes is one of the worst players on Defense now?
1. I am a broken record, Cap at about 13 ?
2. Anything on the TE front ?
3. When do OTA’s start ?
4. There is a possability Dion Branch may be cut in Seattle (roster bonus due March 17), is he a good fit ?
5.Any possible Free agent WR out there ?
6. With Ed Hartwell Howard Green, and Marques Douglas , are we looking at something close to Vet minimums, Ed didn’t play last year and Marques pulled 2.6, a little expensive for a backup
Hart well and Douglas would definitely be veteran minimums. Howard Green might get one mill a year. I think we will just draft one reciever in the draft. The cap website shows us at about 10 million right now which I think is pretty accurate.
Either 10 or 13 million. We are still in good shape. Especially if we trade out of the first and don’t have to pay round 1 money. We have limited need now and those needs can be addressed on the cheap. I am hoping for a big 2nd and 3rd round this draft.
Rhodes is good, maybe great, he needed help and got it this year with the additions of Leonhard and Lito, my crystal ball indicates that he will roam, and punish those who go in the middle of the field; we are going to be a fierce ball hawking team.
10m is about right, but the incentives adjustment has not been factored in yet. Trading out of the first round won’t affect the money allocated to the rookie cap unless they do it in advance. This should be about $4m by the way, so they Jets probably have about $6m of cap room left to work with, although further cuts and adjustments will maybe create a bit more space down the line.
Rhodes is a great player.
I don’t think we should trade out of the first round, what do you think about Hakeem Nicks in the first round and Shonn Greene from Iowa in the 2nd round Bent? This kid Greene is a he!! of a runningback and at 230 he breaks alot of tackles, he would be perfect matched with Washington after this season. Then I would like to take Moala in the 3rd round is he is still there and go corner or offensive line in the 4th.
nyjetscap.com has us at about 110 Million right now with all the new signings, so give or take a few Mill and with the 4 million allocated to the rookies we should have anywhere from 10 to 13 million in space after the rookie pool is accounted for, that is assuming the cap is set at 127 million this year right?
You can still get Nicks or Heyward-Bey early in the second. And you could stock pile late pick or picks next year when we may have more pressing needs. We also need a solid back-up OL or DT. Keep an eye on Rashad Jennings in the 3rd round. 6-1 230 lb. RB out of Liberty.
Have we learned nothing from NE the past 5 years or so.
i would be cool with greene in the projected 3rd rd. first priority is Sanchez,if he’s gone we get a WR 1st rd DT 2nd rd.
Moala is definitely the choice for Rd 3. I feel confident he will be there for us. For Rd 1 and 2, I’d like to go Nicks and Duke Robinson, although I’m not sure Duke will slip past 35-40. But if that panned out, it’ll be a helluva draft, combined with our offseason, we’d have a nice lineup with good depth.
However, when are we going to sign a DE. I agree with the plan at QB to go with what we have. Because, they are both young Qb’s and well, we’ll clearly be run first. But after upgrading the other two levels of Def, how do we not address a position with shallow depth and some old and depreciating guys starting?!
If Sanchez isn’t there… Nicks is a reach at 17. If we get an early 2nd round pick and something else for it. Nicks might still be there, but his is a deep draft for WR. Heyward- Bey, Britt, Harvin Robiskie. Why reach for Nicks when any one of these guys will have an impact, all be it minimal, next year. The future will tell.
I like Greene too, but Rashaad is better even only having played 1AA ball. He transferred from PITT for family reasons. He has the talent. And he is impossing at 6′1. ie Brandon Jacobs.
Why is everyone high on Sanchez he’s got one year experiense in college with one of the best supporting cast in college? i think hes not worth a first nor is his arm.. and woody said we will not go on without a strong arm qb and we would be settling for him.., draft defense , if you guys think reciever get the best run blocking and catching TE, but still think D-line first round
I would take Nicks there because was a way better talent than the rest of those recievers, the best season Heyward Bey had was like 600 yards and 5 tds. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE hEYWARD-BEY. He will be a bust, an athlete that can’t play football. The only reason that he is projected first round is because he runs a 4.3
Personally I like Britt’s Size and speed combination. Thats why want out of the first round. Other than grabbing some more picks. Here is the DT for us in the Second or thrird
Chris Baker, Hampton
Height: 6-2. Weight: 326.
Projected 40 Time: 5.03.
Combine 40 Time: 5.02.
Benchx225: 24. Vertical: 35.5.
Projected Round (2009): 2-3.
2/24/09: How does a 326-pound tackle run a 5.02 and notch a 35.5-inch vertical?
Bleed Green,
Haven’t you learned that combine numbers are not as valuable as the play on the field (Gholston). If you have seen him play then tell us about him, otherwise I am only interested in Football Players, not workout warriors
Jeff – You are misinterpreting the cap data slightly.
For salaries you only need to take the top 51, so it’s 108m, not 110m…but you also need to account for 6m of dead money.
Therefore they are 13m under before LBTE adjustment (my guess is 1-2m) and draft picks of about 4m.
I like Nicks, but he may be a reach at 17 and the idea of drafting RB and WR early doesn’t attract me as much as getting someone who will be a solid contributor next year, which WR/RB may not because there are others ahead of them on the depth chart. Green is good too, but I think maybe we should wait until next year then draft a back to compliment Leon for years to come.
Next yr will be the deepest draft RB wise in the last 15 yrs
I agree completely about football players Cabras, just look at the highlights of the bowl game that Nicks played in this year, it doesn’t matter whether you take him at 17 or at 26 the money is going to be very similar and not too expensive at all. The rookie pool money stays the same anyway.
Thanks for the clarification Bent, I really appreciate it, so other than a maybe two or three vets, we are done in free agency.
Running backs are a dime a dozen, the O line makes them more than they make themselves. I would build this team from the inside out, start in the trenches with studs, and the rest of the players look like studs!
We already have studs in the trenches man and alot of money invested in them ex: Jenkins, Ellis, Faneca, Mangold, Woody
Jeffdolini,
We need to depth, 3 young O lineman, no young D lineman! Look at the Giants, always adding line depth.
I saw Chris Baker when he was at Penn State in
07′. Didn’t see him last year but, come on 326 lbs. runs a 5.02 and can jump 35 inches.
i dont think we will get nicks if we dont draft him in round one i think the giants will take him w there 1st pk.
We have to draft Nicks in round one, you can always find depth on the DL and OL in rounds 3rd through 7th. I totally agree that we need depth, but not with our first two rounds.
