The 2010 debut of the Jets and giants new home is going along as scheduled. The final structural piece of the stadium is being signed today, reports the Sporting News.
The last piece of the New York Giants’ and New York Jets’ new stadium is being put in place.
Owners of both teams are scheduled to sign the final steel beam before it’s raised and installed at the top of the stadium Tuesday.
I’m not a season ticket holder, but I know the strain this new stadium is placing on everyone. Everything is signed and official now, so there’s no choice but to embrace it. While it would’ve been nice to have a stadium of our own, it’d be even nicer to not be terrified of how much a ticket is going to cost.

Joe and Evan also say the Jets are going after Holt. The Jets are becoming the hall of famer graveyard are they not? Well it wouldn’t be a bad move if they brought a high pick WR behind him, like say Murphy in the 2nd round.

Beats a stadium in Manhattan but they should have built Jets Stadium in Queens, near Shea.
Too bad the owner was too greedy. The extra millions will make his life SO much better……….
-
I hope the new Giants Stadium burns to the ground (while no one is inside, of course).

Getting Holt is a great idea IF we take a burner in the draft. Some keep talking about Holt’s performance dropping off last year…not his fault. He is declining, but he has still got great game left. Maybe 2 years…plenty of time to groom new WRs. Also he is one of the greatest players in the league as far as work ethic, leadership, and unity. Forget about the 2008 stats (St Louis was terrible across the board), look at Holt’s numbers 2000-2007…they are amazing.
Again if we can get him for 2-3 years, moderate cost, it will be worth it.
He has only made QBs look better…every year. -
what’s going on? right now on wfan660 mike is talking like this is a done deal that holt will be a jet doe’s he knows something we don’t?

Haven’t heard anything official

Anything in Queens would be a disaster and instead of PSLs we would be complaining about the high tolls, poor parking and terrible traffic.
The New Meadowlands Stadium (as it is being called until someone can fork over naming rights monies), is really unnecessary. If it was domed, I would feel completely different. Why do I need to pay a lot more (PSL fees, higher ticket prices and higher parking fees) to sit in the same basic seats and watch the same crappy uninspired football? I figured out that all this adds at least a $110 to the price of each ticket. And you know that ticket prices are going up in the future. The answer I don’t need the new stadium. The new stadium does zippo for the majority of fans.
This is why I am happy that the PSL license fees are going slow to terrible for the JETS. Why else would they be furloughing support staff?? The best thing the JETS could do is bite the bullet and cancel PSL fees on most seats.

If the Dow was Up 6K and not down PSL’s would seem like a reasonable idea. In this economy I can’t and neither will corporate America justify the expense.
I’d hate to be the Mets, Jets, Giants or Yanks trying to fill seats in this economy. I heard this morning the Yanks had plenty of good seats available ($350 per seat), I bet they do.

I’m not taking into consideration 2008, maybe to an extent, but more so his age. He’s no longer the kind of player that defenses will double team or gameplan around which is what we need to keep pressure off whatever QB we use. I don’t hate the move as long as it’s not looked at as solution rather than a very temporary thing.
-
lgs,
I agree. Not a great solution, but I bet he would give us a couple of good years, with some SportsCenter Top Ten Moments. He would only be a plus for either Ratliff or Clemens. -
In effect, swapping Coles for Holt at a better price is a no-brainer. A good short-term solution and it gives the Jets a good veteran presence at the WR position…now the Jets need a vet at the QB position for a fall back. Leftwich is still available.
-
can’t disagree with that guys. be aware that the small body becomes more of a liability as a WR ages and an older reciever does better with a polished QB.
-
PSL= Pure Suckers League.
The Perfect Storm” has occured at a time when these owners can least afford it, could not be happier.
When the new stadium opens up they will outlaw open fires (BBQ) in the pkg lot, there will be food concession set up in the lot so that we can get gouged even more.
I have tickets since 1966, and this will be my last year of buying season tickets, it is easier to go online and pick 2-4 games that I want and not pay for preseason games and parking. -
A part of me would love the Jets to have their own stadium. But it’s entirely ridiculous for 2 stadiums to be built less than 15 miles apart from each other, that serve the same purpose, AND ARE IN USE LESS THAN 20x/year for it’s primary purpose. Soccer is moving to an 20,000 seat stadium in Harrison. How many times a year would both stadiums actually be in use?
At least the Yankees and Mets use their stadiums 80x a year at a minimum and sometimes up to 90 each. There is no justification for building two 80,000 seat football stadiums so close together.
-
our stadium should have been in Manhattan. Would have been the Marquee venue for the entire NFL
-
When I win the lottery I will purchase an obnoxiously large piece of land on Long Island and build the Jets stadium. megamillions is up to $212 million right? probably not enough
-
Someone explain this to me. If I can to online, and get good tickets to ANY game (playoffs included) why would I pay a PSL? If I got 4 games a year you realize how long it would take to spend the 20k for PSL and the additional cost of season tickets?? 20 years or so!!
Can we just call the new place “Half Empty Stadiumn”?
-
Jesus,
212 million could pay a year and a half of salaries, but you would get tax breaks, and all kinds of govt. help.
This stadium is a joke, there was nothing wrong with the current stadium except it is located in a swamp, and takes 2 hours to get out of the parking lot! -
Nick, the Jets will sell out. The only question is whether they will sell out all of their ridiculously expensive club seats as season tickets. The Upper Level, no PSL (27,000) seats will be gone. The rest of the non-club PSL seats will sell out to season ticket and waitlist members. So, there is only a slight potential that some of the club seats won’t sell. At $400+ a ticket + the PSL, those seats aren’t geared towards the average fan. But, since the Jets are giving fans up to 15 years to pay for all PSLs, and their are 27,000 non-PSL seats, well over 90% of the stadium will be sold out. No half-empty stadium.
-
my family are all life long jet fans and season ticket holders since ’65…….we all bleed green and white……we are all employed and thankfully all doing ok….none of us are buying the tickets or seat licenses at these crazy prices…so the question is…..if life long fans who love the team and have a few bucks don’t want the seats…then who will want the seats????
-
No open fires? no tailgaiting? probably no drinking your own beer too.
All the stadiums in NYC and surrounding areas are awful right now, but the new Mets and Yanks will be beautiful, but the 9$ beers take the luster off.
IF by the help of god himself we can get a stadium in Brooklyn for the Nets, at least you can go out in park slope for a few beers before the game, but in the South bronx, Flushing and jersey swamps, where can you find a beer before the game?
AWFUL.
