  1. Hakeem Nicks.

  2. Kenny Britt

  3. Britt & Nicks: with tyson jackson still on the board? Seems like a stretch … no?

  4. Sanchez. Easily. EASILY.

  5. Darius Heyward-Bey.. Britt is a LATE 1st round guy at best… more than likely a second rounder.

  6. Comes down to sanchez, jackson, moreno

    Gotta go with jackson.

Let him split time with coleman

  7. ***TRADE ALERT***

Jets trade out of 1st round, draft Glenn Coffee, Brian Robiskie and Fili Moala.

  8. WELLS

Or maybe trade down to take Britt and possibly Freeman.

  9. hey-bay!!

  10. I’d try to trade down first. If Sanchez is available, 4 of the next 5 teams picking after us should be interested.

    18 Chicago Bears
    19 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
20 Detroit Lions (from Dallas) – already took stafford
    21 Philadelphia Eagles
    22 Minnesota Vikings

These guys might wanna ensure that Sanchez will be there, if he is indeed their man. Otherwise, I would look to Tyson Jackson, as I believe a quality receiver can be selected in round 2.

  11. Seriously, if a franchise quarterback is sitting there at 17, you take him. Passing up on Sanchez would be yet another unforgivable draft blunder for this franchise.

  12. You forgot San Diego at 16.

I would be happy with Tyson Jackson or Robert Ayers on D, Percy Harvin or Brandon Pettigrew on O. There are some good O-Linemen available here but, they could be had in Rd 2.

As their are lots of options here, I would trade back a little, to get extra picks.

  13. If we can’t trade out of the spot- take Tyson Jackson.

  14. DHB, I PROMISE YOU DHB IS GOING TO BE A STAR HE REMINDS ME OF LARRY FITZGERALD.
    WE HAVE TO GO DHB.

  15. I think it would be too hard to pass on Tyson Jackson considering who Rex Ryan is. A 6′5″ 289lb DE…he may be the pick.

If he is not there, which I believe he won’t be, then Chris Wells will be the pick I think. I doubt that Denver will take CB in the first over this guy – no offense to that Denver blogger.

Jackson, Wells, maybe WR like Nicks, Darius Heyward-Bey Harvin, and possibly Sanchez are what I see.

  16. Kyle, people also promised that Favre was a good decision.

  17. Pick a RB.

  18. There are no trades in a mock draft people! Make a pick and give your reason.

  19. Thats totally different , and stop aying draft a RB we can address that in the 2nd round or fourth.

  20. I just looked up the QB’s drafted in the 1st rnd, hoping to be able to make the point that there were alot of busts. It seems that is not the case. Most QBs drafted in 1st rnd were pretty successful.

Now I’m really confused QB RB WR or Mathews if he’s still there at #17

  21. Matthews was taken in this mock.

Kyle it is no different: people make silly promises about things they have no control over.

  22. alot of jets fans are going to be hart broken when they dont draft WR or QB in first round or a QB at all……i would pick Jackson or Pettigrew.. jackson makes mor sence pettigrew is my sleeper pick with the double TE run offence with play action to pettigrew , keller, cotchery, stuckey or clowney……….I like Green for RB in second round………but there will be a trade….this is Rex’s first pick its gonna be the player he thinks is the best and i believe its going to be defence

  23. Oh god. Some guy elsewhere had the Jets taking Pettigrew. That’d be the most hilarious thing ever.

But seriously, while I love Nicks, one of the first rules of the draft is that if you don’t have a franchise QB, you don’t pass on one, so Sanchez should be the pick.

  24. BTW I didn’t say Moreno but it would either be him or Wells depending on the FO. Many mock drafts like Moreno better and either would be suitable.

  25. At #17 the JETS take – KENNY BRITT

    Proven production, period!

  26. Jackson or heyward. Bey.

  27. Okayyyyyyyyyyy—-Wells

We go with our.strength. We know we can run the ball and TJ is getting up there. Our QB situation is a mess, and I don’t want to need both a QB and RB in a year or two. If it gets to that point we’re screwed.

  28. K. Moreno or B. Wells we need depth at RB position.

  29. Sanchez isn’t a franchise quarterback. Hyped up because he’s a Trojan. I’d pass.

  30. Actually, one of the first rules of the draft is that when there are no franchise quarterbacks in it, as is the case this year, you don’t take a quarterback “just because.” There’s very little reason to think Mark Sanchez (or Josh Freeman, for that matter) could beat out the quarterbacks currently on the roster, either this year or next.

Tyson Jackson or Percy Harvin would be the best options if the board shook out like this.

  31. Hey Sack-

Not ANOTHER TE in the 1st. rnd What would that make it 6 or 7 times we’ve tried that.

  32. How can they say that a lot of QB’s drafted in the 1st Rd are successful? When you got Tim Couch,Akilli Smith,Cade Mcnown,Rex Grossman,Ryan Leaf,Alex Smith,Joey Harrington,Byron Leftwich,Jeff George… And if anybody else knows anymore please inform me of the ones I might have missed. Sanchez is not a slam dunk like P.Manning or J.Elway man J.Cutler was rated higher then this guyat least K.Clemens has some NFL game experience. if T. Jackson is there then take him. there are plenty of QB’s in the NFL now that were not 1st rd draft picks. Let KC andBR battle it out and we still got a young guy in back we can develop like DALLAS did with ROMO he sat for a couple of yrs and EA played in the SEC and for the VOLS

  33. Sorry, but just because you folks don’t believe they’re franchise QBs doesn’t mean they’re in that category (Stafford and Sanchez, that is). Many people were down on Matt Ryan last year and thought he was overrated but that didn’t end up turning out too bad for the Falcons.

  34. The team desperately needs another dominant Dlineman who can eat up blockers in the running game, allowing the playmakers at linebacker to flow to the ball, while also minimizing the impact of Jenkins grabbing a breather.

Adding another young QB, to a group of three who all need playing time to reach their potential, just doesn’t make much sense to me.

Bey fits a need, but rookie WRs rarely contribute, and he may even be a reach at 17. Similarly, Chris Wells would be an interesting pick to take over for TJ next year; however, he probably won’t receive many carries playing behind TJ and Leon this year.

While the Offense certainly could use more firepower, none of the players available figure to make an imediate impact. Jackson already has the size needed to make an impact in the running game, he represents a need, and he is good value at 17. He should be the pick.

  35. …Oh and while I know you’re just looking at this in retrospect and probably didn’t pay attention to the draft back then, Ryan Leaf was supposed to be a “slam dunk”, and even more so than Manning. Some felt that Peyton was only up there because of his name.

  36. you’ve gotta take Sanchez! if he falls to 17, the JEts would be crazy not to take him. The guy can step in right away and be the starter, hes that smart and that accurate! USC could probably have beaten the Lions last year. That guy is ready! We can get a RB in the second or third. You can always find rbs. Theres no guarentee Freeman will be there 2nd round.

  37. RB Knowshon Moreno

The WR depth is so good that if crabtree and maclin are gone we wait until the second round.

  38. the only reason i say TE is because its no going to be a WR and our team is going to be defensive mind this year.. take care of the ball running , play action. what better than twoo TE s that have talent…answer me this even if we get the best WR this year what does he do for us …..nothing …..we would have4 WRs that need to learn the position in the nfl….that sound rediculous to me…crbtree would not help this team this year or next, let alone hick or britt , just like holt isnt a fix or TO wasnt as fix for us….look DEfence first round( people say i cant trade my mock draft) and a good rb in green will be there in the second

  39. Here are some more Broadway but to me there is no certainty anyway so you have to just make the pick and see what happens – Dave Klinger, Jim Druckenmiller, Heath Shuler.

  40. we dont need tyson jackson, im sure he will be a great player but hes nothing we dont already have in kenyon coleman, a big body. Hes not a good enough pass rusher and if we’re going to run a rex ryan defense we need some more speed. I dont get people who bash coleman. He does exactly what a 3-4 end is supposed to do which is stop the run and take up blockers. A guy like Jarron Gilbert would be more of an upgrade because of his ability to rush the passer. Hes 6′5 288 ran a 4.87 and had a 36 inch vertical. So hes a bit more athletic than jackson, and should be found late 2nd early 3rd, plus since DE is not our most immediate need we should not waste our 1st pick on it. As for our first pick, we should either take nicks or Beanie or trade down to get some 2nd round picks. Theres some good 2nd round talent in this draft. WR Brian Robiskie from Ohio State, RB Shonn Greene from Iowa. We should wait until the 5th 6th or 7th to take a TE and i like Anthony Hill from NC State hes strictly a blocking TE and doesnt offer much in the passing game. No QB needed in this draft, Clemens will be fine in our system.

  41. I would go Chris Wells–
Obviously our 2 biggest needs right now are:
    1) QB and
    2) WR–a true #1

–I do not see the answer at either of those positions available so I would go Best Player available and build depth… Jackson is good but he’s not Beanie….Beanie’s biggest concern of course is injuries but that is what Adrian Peterson’s biggest concern was and we have 2 other RBs getting the ball which would help keep Wells healthy

  42. And just to clarify in no way am I saying that Wells is even close to being as good as Peterson

  43. i see alot of people on here saying WR or QB with no reasons why other than we need one..put some football knowledge into you decision then make you choice…..We need a number one WR( half the NFL does) same as first round QBs this year…..tell me how they will step in and help our team out this year..and remember it takes two years for a WR to learn to use his hands to get away from CB on the line and to also learn to run an NFL route….

  44. How about this anybody but Sanchez, a RB or a TE.
Sanchez wont make an immediate impact,
we can wait to draft a first round RB because we have plenty of other decent RB ’s that could hold us onto next years draft.
We need offense but if Tyson Jackson is there we should get him and just get Iglesisas in the second round.
But TYSON JACKSON WILL NOT BE THERE .
Because Houston is looking for a de opposite Mario williams.

  45. For the sake of argument, let’s say the Jets decide to trade down to the Lions, who may well be interested if they take a non-QB with the first pick. If we traded down to #20, we’d likely get the Lions 4th rounder. If however, we traded down to Lions #33, we could get their 3rd and 4th round choices and still come away with a receiver like Hicks, Britt or Robiske or a number of running backs, maybe even QB Freeman. What do you think?

  46. I forgot about those guys especially D.Klinger and to my man that said they were knocking on Matty Ice ur off because the only knock on him was his arm strength he had plenty of scouts rave on how he can make all the throws and he was a senior. While your boy only has 16 starts .And it has been documented that if ATL did’nt get him WE were going to take him if he fell to the JETS Like the other post that said we need a guy that can contrbute ASAP if you draft a QB he will not start for us ASAP we are not the Lions or ATL the year b4 we should have went to the playoffs they need a guy that can help on either side of the ball NOW!

  47. The 2 TE set will be meaningless if defenses stack against the run because you can’t spread the field in a 2 TE set like you can with a solid WR and deep threat. Clogging the middle would be too easy.

I like Jaron Gilbert too but he seems a bit top heavy, not enough leg thickness yet, and may take some time to develop. It would be great to get an offensive player in 1st and still be able to grab Gilbert which I doubt will happen.

  48. TYSON JACKSON

There are a bunch of WR’s in this draft that you can still get one in round two.

  49. Kyle, please name the “plenty of other decent RB ’s that could hold us onto next years draft” because I count 2, one of which is clearly not a workhorse. And if one gets hurt, as happens every year to every NFL team, that leaves 1.

  50. Unless you meant other RBs in the draft to choose from then I get it.

  51. SANCHEZ!! If this is how the draft really went and Maclin was gone, this becomes a no brainer. The Jets are making it relatively clear they arent sold on Ratty or KC and when a franchise quaterback comes on the board, a team that doesn’t have one takes him off the board

  52. rk your reason justifies my choice (if you read all my post on here a TE is my sleeper i choose jackson)but if the defense stack against the run now your asking two LBs to cover Kellen and Pettigrew. your reason for a wr can be used with clowney or stuck have to come better then that

  53. If they can get a guy that can contribute with our 1st RD pick on either side of the ball then that’s great.Anything but a QB unless for whatever strange reason Stafford falls i might think about him for a second. He played some and he played in a tough conf.(SEC). DE,WR,OL are some positions we should look at in the 1st rd but OL can be addressed in the later rounds and get my boy SHONN GREEN in the 2nd . Even tho he might be gone by then Cleveland is in front and might take him

  54. sackexchange- You don’t draft based on who will help the most this year. You draft based on who will make your team the best 3-4 years down the road and who will give you the best return over the length of their rookie contracts.

  55. I want beanie wells he’s huge and just ran a 4.34 he can be tj replacement

  56. You are putting a lot of faith in the WR corps then. And it won’t be LB covering the TE if they are stacking the box it could really be anyone, FS, SS, CB, nickleback…anyone.

  57. DHB with Sanchez a close second. My reasoning is simple, you need some targets for the QB to be successful. Also, if a typical WR takes 3 years to really take off I’d rather take one this year and grab a QB next year like Bradford, McCoy,

  58. Out of 57 posts:

Here are the only definite choices made so far.
    Britt 2
    DHB 3
    Jackson 4
    Wells 4
    Sanchez 3

  59. Sanchez!

  60. 17 RB Moreno
    52 WR Robiskie
    76 TE Casey

  61. senmac yes you do considering all the money we spent on FA last year…..
RK id like to see a saftey or corner, or lb cover kellen and pettigrew 1 on 1 ill take my chaces….hey nice talking to you guy i have to run…

  62. the jets defense would be complete if we draft
    TYSON JACKSON

DL – ellis, coleman, douglas, jackson, green, jenkins

lb – pace, scott, harris, thomas, gholston

secondary – rhodes, leanard, revis, sheppard, lowrey

we not only have a good defense for next year, but half the guys there are young and filled with potential
harris, revis, lowrey, gholston, jackson, even scott and lenard

  63. thanks JD!

  64. Sanchez, trade down, or Heyward- Bey

  65. 1. Kenny Britt, WR
    2. Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR
    3. Mark Sanchez, QB

Britt’s the #2 WR in this draft class and only god knows why this guy is constantly slept on. Great size, legit 4.4 speed, incredibly productive in a pro style offense. He’s strong, physical, good hands(suffered from drops early as a junior but corrected that and has otherwise displayed sure hands), tough to bring down, great after the catch. He’s also the most underrated deep threat of the draft.

Heyward-Bey comes in at #3 on the WR list for me. He’s the most physically gifted of all the WRs in this class, he just wasn’t utilized enough to get a good enough gauge as the other top receivers in this class. Make no mistake though, his lackluster production doesn’t have anything to do with his ability and if you switch teams with Bey and Maclin he’s going to have even better numbers than Maclin at Mizzou. DHB has everything you look for in a receiver, he just doesn’t have the sample size the other WRs do.

Sanchez is a good prospect but he’s really an insurance policy. He’s not going to start this year, he’s probably not going to start in 2010 either, he’s a long term insurance policy for if Clemens/Ratliff don’t work out. He’d be a great pick if he’s available as a team should value a long term steady QB highly, but the WRs are the more pressing needs and more guaranteed contributors.

  66. Too early for Britt or Nicks (a trade up in the 2nd would be ideal). This franchise can not stand to develop DHB for 2-3 years we need an impact player in the first. That leaves Wells, Moreno or Jackson. Clearly we addressed the defense in FA, so as to not become a completely unbalanced team I vote for Wells. Impact player that will give the Jets the best power running game in the division. If the cost to move up and get Britt or Nicks is too high go Robiskie or Murphy in the 2nd.

  67. who is the tallest WR in the draft?

  68. Like the idea of trading up to get Britt with 2nd pick.

  69. If Tyson Jackson Falls to us ive heard the Ryan is EXTREMELY high on him so lets say we Get Him i would then go Leshaun Mccoy in the second and Ramses Barden in the third or trade up and get Robiskie

  70. If not then my picks are Derrius Heyward-Bey then 2nd round Mccoy

  71. Tallest wr is barden at 6 6

  72. Why Ken are the Jets going to be playing some vollyball next season.

  73. O I dont know Woodhead, Chatman who was a good third down back for Miami and Mason. Also we have a win now team so If we draft a QB he better be ready to win now we dont need another Project QB.
And Im telling you Tyson Jckson will not be there when we pick Houston will draft him if he even falls that far…But I say Jackson if he ends up there.
    BUT if he isnt DHB.

  74. You guys don’t think mccoy will be available in the 3rd rd.?

  75. Chris Wells. I refuse to call him “beanie”

  76. hoz if mccoy is in the third round and we found a way to get him I would cry tears of joy I cant see him falling that far he has way to much skill/talent

  77. re-Hoz

    no way

  78. LeSean McCoy and Leon are the same player to me and if we extend Leon I don’t see McCoy as an option.

  79. Here’s how we stand now and going nowhere fast:

    Britt 3
    DHB 3
    Jackson 7
    Wells 6
    Sanchez 5
    Moreno 1
    Pettigrew 1

  80. Steve K’ Mccoy is more of a everydown back potential hes 5′11 210 great college career even in only 2 years and washington is more of a change of pace back at 5′8 202

  81. Here’s an NFL draft value chart to calculate what you are likely to get if you decide to trade.

    http://www.mynfldraft.com/points.php

  82. DRAFT JARRON GILBERT!!!

WE WILL BE SORRY IF WE DON’T DRAFT HIM!!!!

  83. Wr Rb Te is a must in this draft and I think our offense will be well rounded but I have concerens with our punter situation is a 7th rd pick is too much ? Or we pick up a undrafted FA

  84. Nicks or harvin

  85. Fonzie do you think Gilbert could play d-end in the 3-4 system cause if he could then I would love to draft that kid

  86. please anyone else on the list other than sanchez.
    vote DHB or Jackson people.

  87. re gangreen

which is it nix or harvin

    what’s your pick hoz

  88. Jackson.

  89. Sanchez is going to the 49ers with the 10 th pick,I bet yall

  90. gilbert is very talented but at 17 he would be a reach and by our second round pick he will not be there. Hakeem Nicks is the most polished, all around, number 1 type reciever in this draft aside from maybe crabtree (who i happen to think is alot of hype, not enough seperation speed and numbers were inflated due to the system he played in) The guy does it all. Or we can trade 17 to another team and pick up an extra second round pick along with another pick and we can pick up Gilbert, Robiskie, or Shonn Greene in the 2nd.

  91. sackexchange- No, you don’t. If you draft for next year, you are simply insuring that you will need to keep on spending in free agency in the future, because you’ll be drafting inferior talent. You can make a very simple mathematical formula to show how quickly drafting for immediate need causes your talent base to erode. It’s always a bad idea.

  92. Tyson Jackson
    Heyward-Bay
    Wells
    Moreno

    i’ll take any of them

  93. Jd. Jackson or DHb

  94. Stop your begging Kyle

  95. JesusRevis……..I said the same thing in my mock

  96. Hoz for some reason I have a feeling 49ers are going to go a different route and try alex smith one more time….They just resutrctured his contract he is healthy and with sanchez not really being sold as a sure solid qb i see them taking a different route on a player who could help them defensivley….

  97. ABS = Anybody But Sanchez.

  98. I don’t think when they read the card on the 25th there is going to be a multiple choice on it. You get one pick.

  99. I say a big no to Sanchez… we already have 2 young QBs on our roster who deserve a shot, why add another when there are other positions that need attention too (and I’m not sold that he’s a definite franchise QB). I’d be happy with Jackson to shore up the D-line, Nicks/DHB to add some talent to our receiving corps, or Moreno to bolster the running game this year and be a workhorse alongside Washington after TJ is done. Britt may well be talented (I don’t know a ton about him) but from everything I’ve seen he won’t go before the end of round 1 and would be a reach at 17

  100. Here is the only thing that concerns me about Tyson Jackson…… We drafted a DE/OLB last year that didn’t have any impact at all. If we draft Jackson, it proves that Gholston must be an outright bust. With the drafting of Jackson, Gholston just gets pushed further down the depth chart, making that pick last year seem even more horrendous. I say Sanchez in this mock. He has the accuracy, leadership to lead a team, and I’m not sold the Jets have a QB on the roster that can win games when they need him to.

  101. Lucas – Jackson and Gholston are completely different players. Jackson is a 3-4 end, Gholson was a projected OLB, they will play completely different postions, no need to worry.

  102. Tyson jackson….hasnt the Giatns success taught you anything??? D-LINE IT UP

  103. Lucas Jackson wouldn’t be a DE/OLB he would be a DE and Gholston is more of a OLB so I dont think it would affect him… Personally I say please no to sanchez and yes to Britt/Heyward-Bey

  104. Jackson is a straight up DE (could he play inside with Jinx if we lined up in a 4-3?), whereas Gholston would see a fair amount of time at 3-4 OLB and some at 4-3 DE. I don’t see there being much of an impact on Gholston’s playing time.

  105. Ratliff > SANCHEZ……..BOTH UNPROVEN WHY WASTE A PICK?

  106. Rashad Jennings, Liberty University,Height: 6-1 | Weight: 231 | 40-Time: 4.60

    Strengths:
Excellent size and bulk…Good athleticism…Plays pretty fast for a big guy…Strong and powerful…Decent vision and instincts…Runs hard and is difficult to bring down…Very patient…Good hands…Does a real nice job as a blocker…Excels in short yardage situations and down on the goaline…Offers some versatility…Durable…Was super productive.

    Weaknesses:
Did most of his damage against a lower level of competition…Not real quick or explosive…Doesn’t have great feet…Won’t make people miss…Will have trouble turning the corner at the next level…Isn’t much of a big play threat…Conditioning has been a problem in the past…Has some issues with ball security…Might be a bit of a ‘tweener.

Don’t know much about him but maybe as a 2nd day pick might not be a bad IDEA? Has been compared to Chi Bears Matt Forte

  107. scouting report …courtesy of draftcountdown.com

  108. AND WITH PICK 17 THE JETS SELECT————————–

    nicks or harvin
    jackson or someone else
    anybody but sanchez
bey wells moreno or another guy

I DON’T THINK IT WORKS THAT WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  109. those weaknesses sound pretty daunting

  110. OK, someone answer these questions:

    1. How can you be so sold on Sanchez when he only played 1 year of college and also considering that the 2010 qb draft class will have so much more depth and talen?

    2. Why pick a WR in the first round when the WR class is deep this year and talent can be found in the 2nd and 3rd rounds at that position, and also considering how many 1st round WR’s are busts?

    3. Why waste a 1st round pick on RB when RB’s can be found throughout the draft?

    4. Why not pick defense and get a player who will arguably bring more energy and an immediate contribution to the team?

I say, go with Jackson. If you really, really must pick offense, go with any WR. I can’t tell who will be the best one.

But please, for the love of god, stay away from Sanchez.

  111. JD, were not actually making the pick so these strict rules arent really necessary

  112. nicks

  113. I agree with JesusRevis on the draft pick , but what do you mean stop begging I want a good draft pick this year, Can you blame me?

  114. we should take Josh Freeman #1, he can make all the throws and he is above average mobility. #2 we should get Lesean McCoy out of Pitt, he will be a special player. Best back in the draft. Beannie Wells is a bust (Im a buckeyes fan too), Sanchez is a product of the USC system, overrrated.

  115. The weaknesses on Rashad Jennings do stand out. But I mean more as a 2nd day pick you never know he can be a diamond in the ruff. B.Jacobs was from a small school also.I’m not saying that’s who he will be but not a bad value pick on day 2

  116. Trade this years #1, next years #2 and Clemens for Cutler.

  117. re-JesusRevis

Don’t misunderstand me, I think the discussions are great, but I think the idea of the post is to come to a consensus of opinion on who the Jets are going to take. We can’t do that unless the guys contributing pick one particular player.

  118. DHB!!!

The Jets need a vertical offensive weapon, and I think DHB can be that weapon. He can win those jump balls in the endzone and be our Fitzgerald/Burress/Moss. I like Maclin, Harvin, and Nicks but they won’t be running deep and outjumping defenders like DHB. He may not provide alot this year, but if he can be a redzone threat that would be great.

QB and RB would have no impact for the Jets this year. Tannenbaum has passed on Cutler, Leinart, Quinn, and Flacco. If he didn’t like those guys then I doubt he’ll like Sanchez. Besides any QB drafted this year would be riding the pine behind KC and Ratliff. Same goes for a RB, who would be behind TJ and Leon.

  119. Get Sanchez. We have the pieces. Now we need the foundation.

  120. Good point on how Mr.T passed up on all those QB’s so I would be surprised if he even thinks about taking Sanchez. PS good thing he did pass up on Leinert

  121. I got a good feeling about heywerd bey I think this kid is going to be special I prey to god he’s there at 17………he has the makeup of a #1 receiver written all over him

  122. Ok JD, then my pick is Tyson Jackson

  123. Definite selections so far:

    Nicks 2
    Britt 3
    DHB 4
    Jackson 11
    Wells 6
    Sanchez 6
    Moreno 1
    Pettigrew 1
    Freeman 1
    Trade 1

  124. DHB

  125. Whos voting for Sanchez?

  126. how bout we trade our 1st pick for cutler his bags are packed send him home its time to go home ball

  127. DHB, Or trade out for more picks

  128. KNOWSHON MORENO

aparently Tyson Jackson and Beenie Wells both have attitude/ work ethic players so i definetly dont want that. They say Knowshon has a real pation for the game but might be a little less talented than beeni…i still take him. Obviously if we can trade down id do that too. I know that the big player receiver is a need…but they are so hard to find these guys never turn out to be that speical. There are very few in the league i think its just such a gamble.

….by the how about some more productive posts? i agree with JesusRevis

  129. attitude/work ethic ISSUES*

  130. My pick for your tally is Freeman.

(But I’d be happy with any WR in the first round on the actual draft day.)

  131. The ideal thing to do here would to try to trade back with someone who wanted to jump up and grab Sanchez. If that doesn’t happen, I want Tyson Jackson, Moreno, or DHB.

  132. I don’t think it will happen, but say Josh Freeman falls to us in round 2. I think it would be very hard not to take him in round 2.

  133. You guys do realize next yr QB class is a lot more talented and deeper than this year? Why waste a pick before finding out if ratliff is the real deal yet?

  134. re-rj

when you say jackson moreno dhb do you mean in that order if someone is off the board?

  135. Moreno is going to be stud RB, but RB is the most overrated position in football.

you don’t need one of those top-tier fantasy guys like Tomlinson, Peterson, Portis etc. to win a superbowl.

however, you need a stud QB to win a superbowl. Clemens is nothing special and unless they feel Ratliff is the real deal, gotta draft Sanchez…

  136. JD, if those 3 are there I want DHB.

    1. DHB
    2. Jackson
    3. Moreno

Personally, I think Tyson Jackson will be gone by the time we pick.

  137. Freeman would one of the worst picks ever. no way he ever develops into a great NFL QB

  138. oleosmirf, how can you say he never will? He’s 6′6, 250lbs., played in a pro-style offense a K-State, and has an amazing arm. Let him learn the game for a few years and then see what happens.

  139. are you people serious?!!!

    1) Sanchez
    2) Tyson Jackson
    3) Trade back

The reasons that Mr T passed on those quarterbacks were very specific to those quarterbacks, seasons, and sets of team needs.

2006 – Leinart was not worth the 4th pick, and no one had Cutler rated anywhere near #4. LT was a huge gaping hole, a particularly hard one to fill outside the first round, and you don’t want to put a QB (particularly a rookie) back there until he’s got some protection.

2007 – You’d just drafted Clemens the previous year, Chad was playing well, and CB was a much bigger need — again a tough position to fill (at least #1 CB) outside the first round.

2008 – Again, Flacco was not worth the 6th pick. No one had him rated anywhere near there. (Not that VG has been all that, obviously.)

2009 – Kellen Clemens and Brett Ratliff are unproven commodities. If you have a chance to add the most accurate, pro-ready quarterback in the draft — a guy who’s more athletic than, and has twice the work ethic than Matt Leinart — for the 17th pick! For 17th pick (and not 4th or 6th pick) money! you do it! you don’t start him for a year, and worst case scenario: clemens or ratliff seizes the job, and you have a backup with a whole lot of trade value. Sanchez may not be worth a high pick, but he’s a huge value at 17.

if not, don’t draft a receiver. it’s notoriously hard to predict receiver success, and this is a particularly deep receiver draft. you can get someone with our 2nd round pick (robiskie, britt, etc.) who has just as much chance to succeed as any of the other receivers save maybe Crabtree. (see Eddie Royal and DeSean Jackson last year — both 2nd round picks.)

even worse would be a running back. unless their name starts with Adrian and ends with Peterson, you can get 3rd or 4th round backs that are nearly as good as a first round pick. and RBs are cheaper to sign as free agent or trade for than almost all other positions — see Thomas Jones (4th round pick).

tyson jackson, however, is the only seemingly surefire 3-4 end in the draft. Coleman is solid/mediocre, Ellis, while good, is aging and nearing the end of his contract. you add him to the rotation and the defensive line is imposing, physical, and able to produce a pass rush.

  140. Trade out if this actualyy happens. Then pick a WR/OL/RB which ever is rated higher….

I think all the WR’s are the same after the top 2!!

I would go with B Wells if were stuck at 17

  141. voice.of.reason,

How is Sanchez the most pro-ready? He played 1 year of college football.

  142. If Freeman is still available at 52 it would be very tempting, but I still like the idea someone had about trading up in round two to get Britt if possible.

  143. My real vote would be to trade #17 and next years #1 to Denver for Cutler, so my pick is Cutler

  144. You’re not going to like this Kyle but Sanchez is moving up

    Nicks 2
    Britt 3
    DHB 7
    Jackson 11
    Wells 7
    Sanchez 9
    Moreno 2
    Pettigrew 1
    Freeman 2
    Trade 1

  145. im shocked britt is getting more votes than nicks

  146. I would certainly consider trading draft picks for Cutler, but no starters.
Don’t think Denver would do it though.they don’t have a replacement.

  147. JesusRevis…..I prefer Nicks over Britt. I just don’t think either of them are worth the 17th pick.

  148. what if sanchez is available at 17? Jets trade that pick, Denver drafts sanchez, and we give them our #1 next year

  149. Probably because Nicks is to much like Cotchery, and everyone wants deep threat.

  150. That could possibly work. I have a feeling there may be a lot of phone calls made if Sanchez is there at 17

  151. JD, and Britt is a deep threat?

  152. I am loving the way youre thinking Revis….I am dying to get Culter…

Stunned that Jackson is leading right now. I actually think J Gilbert is a better prospect and he could be had in the 2nd round.

Gilbert might be the quickest 3-4 DE I have seen in years.

  153. why jesusrevis? Britt is an absolute beast ive seen him play his whole career from rutgers and hes a freak of nature

  154. TYSON JACKSON

  155. Wells

  156. I never said Britt wasnt a beast, but he ran a 4.48 40, Nicks ran 4.49, I was just commenting on why Britt is no more of a deep threat than Nicks

  157. I like Gilbert too, but he played at a semi small school against lower competition. I wouldnt draft him any higher than round 3. Lets not forget, Lowery played at SJ State and he had averaged about 1 interception a game. Fast forward to the NFL and Lowery couldnt get any picks despite being thrown at all day.

  158. If Sanchez does fall to 17, the phones should be going crazy with teams looking to move up.

    Nicks evaluation at Scout.com

  160. JD, what does that prove? My point was Britt is no more of a deep threat than Nicks.

  161. Heyward bey is a franchise wr did you guys see any of his games?

  162. Revis….Lowery did make a bunch of plays even though he didnt pick off passes….plus he dosent have elite speed to be a dominating CB. Still very hapopy with his year and expet him to get much better in 2009

Gilbert has elite speed and strength for a 3-4 DE. He will get out of the 2nd round

  163. Drew, im still wary of drafting players from smaller schools, especially as high as the 2nd round. I like Lowery too, but the respect this guys gets on this board is out of control. He gave up a ton of TD’s last year, and despite always being thrown at he definetely didnt live up to his name “swipe”. I like Lowery a lot, but sometimes people act like he was awesom last year, all I remember is him getting beat for TD’s.

  164. Hoz

I saw him play 2 times last year and his QB/offense was digusting so I cant use that agianst him but…

He has “okay” hands is an average route runner and refuses to block

He is tall and has top end speed but there are reasons to think he might be more of a “track” WR than an actual franchise WR.

Britts evaluation: I don’t write them, I just read them.

  166. I am not one of these guys that are overblowing Lowery. He was a 4th round rookie CB that got beat but also made plays last year. He caused some fumbles and did break up some passes.

For rookie 4th rounder without top end speed he did a nice job after being forced into action….

  167. Trade down. Lots in the second round. Get two for the price of one.

  168. Be it as i may, Nicks still seems to be the higher rated prospect, and I personally have said I’d rather have Nicks because I just think he will be a better pro regardless of their abilities as a deep threat. I just find it funny that these evaluations list downfield threat as a strength for Britt, and then as a weakness for Nicks, but anyone who watched Nicks play saw that he made a lot of big plays downfield. I know Britt did too, but I still like Nicks more, and thats my opinion. I just think its weird that they have the same speed, only Nicks has better hands and is a better route runner, yet he isnt as good of a downfield threat? That logic doesnt necessarily add up, but its just an evaluation.

  169. Drew, I agree he did a “nice” job, I would say he played decent, and im not saying youre one of the people over-hyping Lowery, but he definetely gets a little too much love on the jetsblog. Its funny, we have possibly the best corner in the NFL in Revis, and people talk about Lowery more?

  170. news: cutler met with denvers coaching staff and general manager but their issues werent resolved. Cutler most likely wont go to the teams first workout tomorrow.

I think he’ll look good in green but i see a perfect fit in chicago for him

  171. you gotta go either tyson jackson or darius heyward-bey

  172. Ronnie he is a perfect for the jets as our team is built a lil better for him…..if he’s available tanny have to make that call

  173. Sanchez falls to 17, you GOTTA take him. In case some haven’t noticed, we do not have a quarterback. Sanchez is the pick.

  174. I woul take Freeman over Sanchez, we already have a Sanchez in KC. Freeman’s upside is amazing, with the right coaching this kid could be special.

That said my pick at 17 would be Josh Freeman.

  175. If the Lions don’t take Stafford at #1, trade down to #20 and pickup there 3rd, then draft Jarron Gilbert at #20.

  176. My second choice at 17 would be Tyson Jackson.

  177. Or, if Sanchez is there at 17, trade the pick to the Broncos for Cutler. Win-Win.

  178. My third choice choice at 17 would be Beannie Wells.

  179. Changing my pick to Tyson Jackson

  180. I heard our scouts was very impressed with hey ward bey workout……I’m just saying

  181. The more I see highlights of all the names listed in the blog.

I’m falling more and more in love with Chris Wells. Forget a WR in the 1st. It “ain’t” happening especially with talent on the team. Lets wait until the 2nd round to pickup a WR.

  182. If Cutler is actually available, he’s easily worth this year and next year’s first, but I don’t see Denver sending him to any team that doesn’t have a highly regarded quarterback prospect in return.

Anyway, back to the subject. I like both Nicks and Britt and would be all for sliding down to get into position to land one of them. At 17, though, Harvin seems like a better value- he’s a legitimate gamebreaking player, though admittedly one who needs to be schemed for a bit. The offense is in dire need of upgrading its explosiveness, and I generally tend to favor nabbing skill position guys at this point in the draft.

  183. How many points is the 17th pick is worth?

  184. First of all, the draft will not go this way. No way is Detroit so stupid as to take a QB with the first pick this year when they will pick high next year and there are great OT prospects this year and great Qbs next year. They may well go Curry figuring with their second pick they get the OT.

That ought to gum this up enough. And if that doesn’t Seattle not taking the risky Crabtree at 4 ought to seal the deal.

But, for the sake of argument, since someone thought this worth while, Kewpie to Sampetra.

With all this talent dropping to us, no way we don’t shop the pick. And, if we get a second or even a third if we don’t drop more than 3 or 4 spots, it is gone for sure.

    H

  185. Ryan would probably love to snatch Cutler somehow, it would certainly put his stamp on the franchise. How to do it is the question. I wish we had a decent QB to package with picks in order to get him. Don’t think they’ll go for the Sanchez + picks even if he’s available.
Have a feeling that alot of other teams would be willing to trade for him including the Lions.

  186. We NEED a QB!!! Please don’t tell me the guys we have are getting it done. Mr. T has another opprtunity to address quarterback in the draft, he won’t screw this one up. Sanchez period.

  187. My only question is why wouldnt the lions just offer Denver the #1 overall pick for Cutler?

  188. While I agree that the Jets dont have a valuable QB prospect to offer in a trade for Cutler, none of the teams that would be willing to trade for him have one either (hence why they are trying to trade for him in the first place). So if it comes down to trading draft picks, I would start with this years first, plus either a 2nd or first next year and see where it goes from there. Some may call me crazy, but I would be willing to give up 3 first round picks for Cutler if thats what it would take.

  189. Jesus I think they will, and add picks

  190. Tampa bay is another team that will go after cutler hard if we aquire him we might have to over pay and I don’t think that’s a good idea

  191. I love Cutler but 3 #1s is a bit steep
If Denver can’t come to terms with him before the draft something will probably be worked out with Detroit.

  192. Jesus Revis do you feel better now Britt and Nicks are tied, Thank Jake for switching.

    Nicks 2
    Britt 2
    DHB 7
    Jackson 13
    Wells 9
    Sanchez 10
    Moreno 2
    Pettigrew 1
    Freeman 2
    Trade 3
    Cutler – I think everyone

  193. JD
the only good thing is teams are afraid of that #1 pick because it’s a lot of guranteed money involved the broncos would rather have pick 17 starting in a package.

  194. JD, it doesnt make me feel better because I dont really want either.

I find it hard for a jet fan to say 3 #1 picks is too much. WE HAVE NEVER HAD A FRANCHISE QB. NEVERRRRRRRRRR. (Joe Nameth aside)

Do whatever you have to do to get one

  195. Sanchez and if he’s gone, then Beanie Wells.

Pray for or trade up to get Robiskie – I think he’s better than all the Burress wanna-bes!

  196. 25 yrs old cutler still didn’t reach his ceiling i think 2 #1’s and clemens get it done.

  197. Brett Justin,

Gilbert can play a 3-4 defense end because he has repeatedly been doubled teamed in college. I think he is very versatile on the line and Rex Ryan loves lineman who can play dt-de in the 4-3 which is why I am disappointed that we picked up Douglas from the Ravens. I don’t see Howard Green doing a whole lot for us this year. One word describes Gilbert. EXPLOSIVENESS!!!! Something that we are lacking on the line. Of course Jenkins can man the line on some plays but I think next year the nfl will expect that and plan around it just like the end of lat year when the Broncos eliminated him with superior technique, and the 49ers, Bills, Seahawks, and Dolphins played him man to man along with some help to wear him out. We need to infuse the line with the guy his play will only yield positive results.

  198. Didn’t N.O. give their entire draft one year to get Ricky Williams. Maybe we could do something like that.

  199. sanchez has mat leinert written all over him…don’t get upset ppl that’s just my opinion.

  200. Ellis can be explosive at times whenever he has help from Jenkins but at the same time the two depend on each other. Both of them are at least 30 next year so we need a young versatile lineman.

  201. I would do 2 #1s and Clemens in a heartbeat.

  202. trade down…trade down..trade down…

get best reciever available, josh freeman if available…best runner, best d lineman

  203. en do we get to see who “we” picked?

  204. so did torry holt signed with a team yet?

  205. What is the purpose of trading down? To accumulate more picks? If we already have 7 draft picks, and we trade down to turn that into 8-9 picks, what is the purpose of drafting 8 or 9 players when we will only have 5 or 6 roster spots? Trade up! Get quality not quantity.

  206. Trade down. The draft is a crap shoot so you want as many picks as possible. If we drafted 8 guys you hope to hit on three. I’d you trade ip and miss, well then you are screwed. Both from a salery cap and personel standpoint.

  207. Jesus

I was looking to trade back as I dont love the WR’s at 17 and I certainly do not want Sanchez. Sanchez will be the hot pick…..While we dont need a bunch of players we have zero depth at OL and DL.

  208. And lets not forget that we are putting alot of eggs in Davis Harris’s basket. He was injured in college and has been banged up both years with us.

  209. I thought we had 6 picks since we gave up a 5th for Lito??

  210. MSNBC has Raji going after 17. I would take him too.

    http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/7149535

  211. Drew, Are you sure Harris had any injuries his rookie year? I remember him playing a full year and having a monster tackle total

  212. Your right…..he didnt start the 1st 8 games or so as a rookie then played the rest of the year.

But he did get hurt last year early and then I believe he suffered another leg injury in the final game.

I love Harris….followed him at UM but he has not played 16 games yet. Just throwing that out there

  213. DHB!

  214. He didnt start the first 7 games his rookie year because Vilma and Barton were ahead of him on the dept chart. When Vilma went down Harris stepped in and became a monster which essentially led the Jets to think Vilma was expendable. Harris did get injured twice last year, and has some injury histoy while at Michigan, but I’m not too worried about it.

  215. Wells. Jones is living on borrowed time.

  216. You guys who like Freeman, please explain what makes him a different QB project then Erik Ainge. Compare them and let me know why you want Freeman over Ainge.

  217. Go ahead and say Tyson Jackson to sure up our D-Line.
Our Draft Board Should Lokk Like
    !. Tyson Chandler
    2. DHB
    3. Beanie

And Who In The Hell Keeps voting for Sanchez?

  218. Jackson Is my *PICK* having made my pick I also wouldn’t mind a trade….

  219. Freeman has a much stronger arm
Your getting there Kyle but Sanchez is still in the mix

    Nicks 2
    Britt 2
    DHB 8
    Jackson 13
    Wells 10
    Sanchez 10
    Moreno 2
    Pettigrew 1
    Freeman 2
    Trade 4

  220. DHB..BABY!

  221. Harvils I imagine the arguments for him are his size, athleticism/speed and arm.

I think he’s only intriguing in the 3rd…or move up from 3 to two if it suits you. A move down would also allow for a chance at him.

Remember this is what the draft is – a chance at a legend that will make your team legendary.

As far as Sanchez, I won’t be surprised if he is the pick.

  222. The only WR I would take at 17 is Maclin. HB is a project. I like Harvin and Nicks but we should be able to trade down and get one of them. Moreno is the only RB I would take at 17. If Sanche drops to 17, I’d trade the pick. There should be lots of interest. The Rams need a QB and have a full slate of picks in rounds 1-5. The Chiefs have no #2, Browns have no # 3. I’d be talking to the Rams. And I wouldn’t be reluctant to throw in some picks we could use next year.next year.

  223. I don’t understand y neone wants a rb right now this team has alot more pressing needs then rb? I say DHB

  224. Matt I think the WR QB situations are similar in that some people, and possibly the organization, wants to see what they have at those positions.

Think about their drafts recently. Clemens was the highest offensive pick. I think they are due to pick a high O pick and if they like something it could be QB, WR or RB.

Also they may pick a DL.

  225. JD/RK,

So why didn’t his arm lead to better stats? Ainge played in a better conference. Ainge beat Georgia, Arkansas, & LSU. He had a monster game, beating Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl. You think we should replace him with a QB who won five games for a so-so team?

  226. Sanchez? Freeman? ARE YOU NUTS? These kinds of picks are from the same Knuckleheads that had the hots for the likes of Vince Young, Matt Leinart and Jay Cutler. Remember how high those guys were rated?

One’s a NUT, the other a bench-warming bust, and the third is so arrogant and self-absorbed that his team wants to trade him, in spite of the fact that he made the pro-bowl!

PLEASE, Tannenbaum, unless a top ten pick falls to us, trade out and get another second or third rounder. That’s where GMs earn their rings, anyway.

  227. Iggy- If you are looking for a deep threat you will draft Harvin over DHB, are you serious?

  228. Sanchez.

  229. they picked Tyson Jackson

    http://www.nologoneeded.com/

  230. how can anyone seriously justify taking a defensive player? we NEED offensive weapons! WR, RB, QB, whatever, just make sure its an offensive player

    my vote is Chris Wells

  231. Jarron Gilbert >> Tyson Jackson

  232. As much as I like J.Cutler how would he fair here in the MEDIA CAPITOL OF THE WORLD? He’s pouting because they wanted M.Cassel he should just get over it. So I would be worried about getting him on that alone. Plus 2 #1’s?????? Mannnnnnnnn!! KC gave up a 2nd rounder for Cassel. Thats wayyyyyyyy too much for a Prima Donna with a Medical Problem. Plus who would QB for them? Believe me they will resolve this . Or trade him to someone with a competant starter or backup plus a pick

  233. harris missed the first 8 games of his rookie season due to the fact he was not the starter Vilma was , not because he was hurt .

  234. DHB is the best deep threat wr in this draft outside of crabtree

  235. We are going to get offense there will be plenty of RB’s WR’s in the later rounds but it is crucial to get the 1st rd pick CORRECT! So if it means going DEFENSE so be it. Tyson Jackson if he’s there? If not then WR, but if he’s there I think we need to get him. Ellis is getting long in the tooth and Coleman is better suited to be a backup. Or if there’s a highly rated NT then that also we need. So we can rest Jenkins so he won’t wear out like he did the 2nd half of the season!

  236. Tyson is too good to pass on, but Draft Day I doubt he will be there.

  237. If cutler is on the trade block we still have to put in our bids, remember this a diffrent situation than brett favre

  238. Jackson is going to be long gone at 17,too many teams are converted to 3-4

  239. Tanny always seems to target a position with his 1st round pick, except for last year. Last year, Tanny went “BPA” (which doesn’t work in the top 10 because any player worthy of being a top 10 pick is potential BPA) and drafted what could be a huge bust in Gholston. At this pick and the way this very unlikely mock draft worked out, Tyson Jackson, the only “5″ technique DL somehow may fall for the Jets. If this happens, Tanny breathes a sigh of relief and takes the safest pick possible.

But, no way the draft ends up like this and I don’t think there’s any way Sanchez lasts this long. I think if Freeman is there, he’s the pick in the real draft. He is much more physically gifted than Ainge and is younger. He’s a project, but I see him and I see what he could become and I think he’s worth the risk.

If Tanny decides RB, then it’s Moreno. Just great field vision, elusiveness and sets up his blocks like a master..he reminds me of Emmit Smith. If it’s WR, then Harvin. Harvin might not be the deep threat that DHB is, but he’s the only WR than I see taking a quick out to the house. He’s an amazing open field runner, a human highlight film. On third down, with him and Leon in…forget about it. The Jets need playmakers and Harvin is the no. 1 playmaker in this draft.

  240. Whats the jetsblog record for most posts on 1 thread?

  241. We need a deep threat to stretch the field harvin doesent fit that description all teams is going to do is put 8 in the box without us having that deep target

  242. I noticed no one is voting for Vontae Davis. He would have been my first choice before the Lito Sheppard signing, but I still would be happy if they took him. You can never have too many corners.

    Here’s how I see it:

Safest pick – Tyson Jackson, Knowshon Moreno

    Biggest Reach – Josh Freeman

Best Value – Sanchez, Vontae Davis

    Most exciting pick – Heyward-Bay

  243. Record I believe was the favre thread

  244. Hoz,

At that point, you hit Harvin with a slant and watch as they follow him into the endzone.

  245. After watching both Moreno’s and Wells’ highlight videos I feel that Wells is the better RB. Many mock drafts have Moreno going higher but just as many have Wells going higher. I think it’s a bit of a toss-up. I would be happy with either and I believe that is how the draft will go.

  246. i would be totally shock if they take a rb in the 1st rd but i know that’s a position of need sooner than later.

  247. i disagree completely…
hoz are u serious right now????
    like really???

  248. Kyle-I agree, I would prefer Percy over DHB, who has a huge downside. But, I wouldn’t take either with #17.

  249. we have a great duo of rbs so why a first rd rb…
we dont even have a #2 wr next to cotchery…
whats wrong with you……if moreno is there and there’s no other options and jacksons gone then i say maybe or even trade back but hes not a first option

  250. what that basically tells me is that jones is to old and u dont even care about leons game

  251. iggy,

if there’s no other option then yea u gotta take em or trade back

  252. only way i would take a rb in rd 1 is if we sign torry holt we can finish developing clowney stuckey and henry.

    peace fellas im out.

  253. Harvlis,

While Ainge and Freeman are both tall 6-5 each, IMO the comparisons stop there. Ainge cannot run and his arm strength is better than average. Freeman can run and throw accurately on the run. Ainge is 6-5 and about 220, Freeman is 6-6 (officially 6-5 5/8) and weighs 250. You should watch some of his highlights on youtube, you’ll be amazed.

I would take Freeman over Sanchez in a heart beat. Freeman ran a prostyle offense for Kan. St. for three years and started as a true freshman. He averaged about 60% compl. and 20 TD’s and 10 ints. Sanchez does not come close in anything Freeman has: physically, arm strength, and stats.

  254. I like Jackson as the pick, but I think he’ll be gone by the time the Jets pick at 17. If Sanchez is available, the Jets should trade out of the pick for value. We don’t need Sanchez and he won’t help us immediately. I previously picked Vontae Davis, and he may get some consideration if available, even after the Lito Sheppard trade, but I think he’ll be picked earlier than 17. I don’t like the idea of the Jets trading for Cutler. He’s overrated and a Prima Donna. Under Rex Ryan, the Jets will be a Defense First team, and Cutler wouldn’t like that.

  255. iggy- I thought you you thought that DHB has better hands than Harvin, Jumps higher than Harvin, is taller than Harvin, Is Faster Than Harvin, and Runs better routes than Harvin.
DHB Fails to get alot of seperation some times which is his only weakness.

  256. Amazed that people would consider drafting Harvin?? I mean whens the last time we had a legit WR that was over 6′0?

I know Harvin has talent but we need a big WR. Havent we seen enough of Plax,TO, A Jonhson, Fitz, Boldin etc..dominating games to realize we need one?

This draft is filled with big WR. We have to sign a vet and draft a WR in rds 1-2.

  257. Jackson from LSU, Jets need some youth on the D-line. QB can wait till next year if Ratliff or KC is not the answer. Draft a WR in the 2nd round, most WR taken out of the top 5 have a higher likelyhood of bust potential.

  258. this is my first year on this site….there is gonna be some crying on here the day after the draft because i dont think we take a WR in the first and i believe that we dont take a QB at all unless trade for cutler..this site must light up day of and after the draft…….so may people are going to be mad NO WR…..

  259. Young Jet…

I have only seen DHB play 2 x but Maryland fans have said that he has great speed to seperate but he runs sloppy routes and his hands or “okay”. He also refuses to block.

After Crabtree and Maclin I feel the next 3-4 are all the same.

I would love to trade back and pick up Britt, or Hicks. DHB has project written all over him…..

  260. Hey-Bey all the way…
(sorry, didnt’ bother to read the other 230+ comments, just my 2 cents)

  261. One of the RB’s Moreno or Wells is the most value at 17 if we cant move back

Wells could do damage with TJ and Leon next. WR in round 2 if thats the case

Also sign a vet to play next to Cotchery no matter who we pick

  262. OK Hands, great seperation, DHB is fast thats how he gets most of his seperation but wait until he meets the fast NFL DB’s you will be saying the same. And obviously you havent seen Hey-Bey Snatch the ball out of the air like boldin or Fitz.
DHB is the truth if we dont get him we better have Tyson Jackson or a top 5 fallen talent.
    NO Sanchez.

  263. But how to get seperation easier can be learned by the way.

  264. Robiskie!!! Quality over quantity … Sanchez or Wells with #17 and then trade up for Robiskie like they did to secure Revis and Harris…

  265. does anyone know when offseason workouts start is that tomorrow

  266. yes, sackexchange

  267. DHB ALL DAY!

  268. defense first offense second

if tyson jacksons there rd 1 we take him if not draft a wr

in rd 2 hopefully we can get jarron gilbert if not a wr

    WR,DE

    none of this rb CRAP!!

  269. Ramble,

You are the first person to have a reason for us taking Freeman, while we have Ainge. I watched films. With all the advantages that you have stated, Ainge had just as good stats, if not better, beat very good teams, and had a great bowl game. Granted, he had a better team than Freeman but, my point is – why would we want another QB project? Freeman may end up being a monster but, it will take years. With a guy of his size and obvious ability, I could be very wrong but, he won five games this past season. He is a project.

  270. Harvlis,

With out a doubt Freeman is a project, I just think the rewards outweigh the risk. We can go with KC or BR until he is ready to compete for a starting job, but if he lives up to the expectations, Jet football could be fun

  271. to me DHB is not the guy. The only reason people here want him is because he is a fast, deep threat reciever. He doesnt go over the middle, doesnt block, and doesnt have great hands. I think all he will end up being is a slot reciever. What does he have that David Clowney doesnt? That being said, an all around, true number 1 reciever would be better fitting for our team, and Hakeem Nicks is that guy.

  272. I just read that we signed Marques Douglas, anybody else hear that?

  273. Sanchez no doubt about it, have you seen the cornerbacks on our roster as of late??????

  274. Hakeem nicks is just Cotchery…
We want DHB because hes everything Cotchery isnt.

  275. NO SANCHEZ.

  276. hakeem nicks and josh freeman look solid on youtube

  277. and jarron gilbert looks better than tyson jackson as a 3-4 DE hes gotta be an automatic pick for us in the 2nd or trade down

  278. Heyward-Bey

  279. ramble … friday signing

    http://www.thejetsblog.com/2009/03/13/news-jets-sign-marques-douglas/

  280. I don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but I saw talk about Cutler and in that draft, there was serious consideration about taking Cutler at #4. Since, obviously, they went with D’Brick, they had planned to potentially use their next two picks to try and move into that 12-15 range to snag Cutler, but obviously he went #11. So really, I think there’s quite a bit of interest in him in the FO. And while this isn’t a ringing endorsement, before that draft Cutler had said that he’d like to play in New York, and he played in the SEC in some real big games, so I don’t necessarily think the pressure will get to him.

As for the other teams interested, I’d think they’d definitely be Tampa Bay and Detroit, but people have brought up Cleveland and I’d think Minnesota would be interested but they’ve publicly stated that they’re not interested and you’d think they wouldn’t announce something like that unless they were serious (considering we haven’t said anything of the sort). But then you look at Tampa and Detroit and really, what do they have to offer that we don’t? Tampa surely doesn’t have anything unless for some unknown reason McDaniels is extremely high on Josh Johnson.

Detroit does have Drew Stanton and pick #20, but I think my relatively low opinion of Stanton (I’m in Big Ten country so I saw him play plenty) makes me think that’s not amazingly attractive. People would say that they also have the #1 overall pick, but Denver’s kind of hurting for cash and I don’t particularly think they’re going to invest that much money into a QB considering 1) why replace Cutler with an inferior prospect for significantly more money and 2) McDaniels comes from the Belicheck tree that doesn’t necessarily believe in drafting QBs that early (though I know that goes against what I said the Jets wanted to do in that other draft).

So that leaves Cleveland, I guess. However, being a Belicheck guy as well, I just sort of feel his personality too would clash would Cutler’s, and I’d think he’d rather mold Quinn. Of course, if that hypothetical trade did come about of Quinn and Rogers for Cutler, that’d free them up to take Raji in the draft.

So I sort of see us as the most attractive option for the Broncos. Plus, really, this is all Belicheck’s fault for screwing of McDaniels, so the best way to get back at them is to trade with the Jets, right? Of the teams that should be willing to give up their first rounder, ours is the highest, and though I’d hate to see him go, we do have an expendable player in Leon Washington. More than likely we’d have to involve a third team in a trade though, since Denver has no interest in our current QBs.

  281. Thanks Brian.

  282. We have to take Mark Sanchez.

First of all, just look at his physical tools. He’s got a solid frame and can make any NFL throw. TERRIFIC ACCURACY (wouldn’t that be a nice change of pace after last year?) Buys time in the pocket and can throw on the run (this skill won the Steelers a superbowl this year, you might recall). He’s a team leader and comes from a pro style offense. CBS Sports says he “shows a lot of moxie on the field” and NFL Draftcountdown (the BEST draft website on the internet) called says “[Sanchez] Has the physical tools and intangibles to be a franchise signal caller in the NFL.

Beyond that though, it really is time the Jets stopped getting pushed around. For years we’ve been hiding our faces behind our hands at sports bars after guys like Brett Favre throw multiple interceptions against teams that eventually pick in the top 5. We need something to hope for. We need a real leader with some spunk that we can all get behind as a fanbase. Sanchez, evenmoreso than Stafford, has that Los Angeles Swagger that really bring some California Sunshine to guys like us, who religiously read Jets blogs in the offseason.

Let’s not screw this one up.

  283. Jesus, I agree with everything you said, EXCEPT your “best value” rating of Sanchez.

Look at the stats– QBs with less than 25 starts in college rarely make it in the NFL. Cassel was an anomaly this year and I won’t be surprised if he turns into Scott Mitchell in KC.

There’s a reason Pete Carroll recommended he stay another year. Yeah, Carroll is self-interested, but not for the obvious reason. Sure, he wants to win next year, but turning out successful pros is his best long-term recruiting tool.

  284. hey i’d take another cotchery any day of the week, that would mean we’d have 2 great recievers, DHB gives us something Cotchery is not, but also something Clowney is.

  285. What is the time limit for making each pick? 24 hours????

  286. I seem to be in the distinct minority in that I don’t have Southern Cal quarterback Mark Sanchez sitting there waiting for the Jets to snatch him up. But I’m OK with that. Believe it or not, I think New York has more confidence in the untested Brett Ratliff than most folks know. Having lost Laveranues Coles, New York should be in the market for a receiver whose 4.3 speed is capable of stretching the field opposite the steady Jerricho Cotchery. Bey is a good one, no doubt. He in fact reeled off a 4.30-second 40 at the recent combine workouts, the FASTEST not only among the fast wideout class but among ALL combine participants. He also had a 38.5″ vertical jump, fifth among wideouts, a 10′6″ broad jump (tied for fifth) and a 6.80-second three-cone drill (tied for eight

  287. Look at Chad Jackson’s measurables. They’re not too far off DHB’s. Then look at his production in college. Then look at his production in the NFL.

  288. Wait until Harvin’s pro day. Lots of scouts thought the 40 equipment malfunctioned during the Combine. If Harvin runs in the low 4.3 range, or better, then the difference between Harvin and DHB is almost 2″ (a plus for DHB) and talent (Harvin was arguably the most exciting player in Div. 1). The thought that Harvin can’t get deep and stretch the field just strikes me as way off base. Plus, there is NO WR in the draft who runs better after the catch. As for the Moreno v. Wells debate, big guys like Wells, who run straight up, take tons of punishment. The elusive guys like Emmit, Curtis or Barry have long careers.

Harvlis, I’ve been pounding the table for weeks on Freeman. If Freeman were playing any other position, with his superior measurables, he’d be the talk of the draft. Remember when Matt Jones got drafted as a WR in the 1st round just because he was tall, fast, and a good athlete? Freeman is nearly 6-6, has a cannon arm, scored 14 rushing TDs last season, has great mobility and can throw long and accurate, with zip, on the run. I know QB involves way more factors and Freeman has the rap of being inconsistent, but to paraphrase the Parcells Planet Theory, there just isn’t that many guys on this planet who are 6-6, mobile, and can throw a football 60 yards on a frozen rope. He’s a project, but if he succeeds…WOW!

  289. JL, i’m not a Sanchez fan, so my comment about him being the best value at 17 is simply based on draft projections. Sanchez is usually projected to go in the top 10, and therefore I said he would be the best value at 17. I dont want him though.

  290. ignore the pick. do anything they can to get cutler. end of story.

  291. I would never say that. Cutler is a waste to me and will destroy the cohesion on the Jets.

Sackdance, the height difference between Wells and Moreno is 2″ according to ESPN but the weight difference is 30lbs. Since they move the same I’d take Wells because he gets more momentum and he looks like he handles hits better. Don’t go judging people out of hand if you just don’t like Wells. If you watch Wells at all you see that he moves just like Moreno but stiff arms better and leaves himself less vulnerable to big hits during impact.

  292. DRAFT SANCHEZ THEN TRADE HIM STRAIGHT UP FOR CUTLER!!!

  293. [...] thejetsblog.com. Please read the complete article and let us know what you think [...]

  294. [...] to the many of you who voiced your opinion on who the Jets should take.  Since the commenters were fairly evenly split, we went with the steak of the Draft, as opposed to the sizzle. [...]

  295. Take Freeman… And if possible trade him and 3rd to Mcdaniels for Cutler

  296. JD because the Jets need the Tallest WR. someone to make most QB’s look better than what they are.
Randy Moss made Chad Pennington look great in College. he is 6 6. he can catch passes most defenders can not touch.
