That’s a big weight gain for Nicks… still ran fast though

  2. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

hopefully he gain muscles and not body fat.

  3. avatar Cabras says:

Can we send hid diet to D”Brick?

  4. avatar Bent says:

It’s actually not possible to gain that much in pure muscle in a year, let alone in a few weeks, but hopefully he has maintained a low body fat percentage.

  5. avatar DCMike says:

    Bent,

Check out Aaron Maybin’s 25 lb gain between the combine and his pro day. I can’t find the link but it is incredible.

  6. avatar pound4pound says:

How does Chris Mortensen still have a job?

  7. avatar Cabras says:

Can you say HGH!!! What a joke, the stuff is undetectable, not that I care if they juice or not, that is their choice.

  8. avatar HOZ THE JET says:

as much as we need a WR TE and a QB i got a strong feeling the jets are going to select a RB moreno or wells and trade up at the bottom of the 1st rd and grab heyward bey, nicks or britt, mr t showed us how creative he can be on draft day i put nothing pass the man he gets the players he want.

  9. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

I share an office with a lifter. He says no way is that possible without juice, especially when maintaining speed. These guys aren’t getting it are they? Why do it after the combine if they have something that is undtectable? They would be better off having the same weight at their prodays and the combine. They wouldn’t raise suspicion and would make that $$$$$.

I’m an avid weight-lifter and I can add the following:

Yes, of course it would be IMPOSSIBLE to add 14 pounds of pure muscle between the combine and their Pro Day. No doubt about that statement.

    However, consider the following:

*Nicks is far from a “small person” at 6’0″, 226 (or thereabouts). The bigger you get, it becomes exponentially easier to gain or lose body weight quickly.

*He may have “sucked weight” for the combine, similar to a what a wrestler does, training hard for the purposes of running a fast 40-yard dash at the combine. Once again, being a bigger guy makes sucking weight easier and it appears more drastic on paper.

*Back to a similar theme, difference in hydration level makes a more noticeable impact on the weight of a larger person. If you weigh yourself in the morning after urinating and before drinking water, following a whole night of breathing out moisture in your breath (this dehydrates you), your weight is significantly lower than it is at night, before bed, when hydrated and you have your 3 square meals for the day in you.

*While I’m sure the scales are properly calibrated at both the Combine and the Pro Day, a variance of 1-3 pounds would not surprise me at all, making the potential discrepancy closer to 10-13 pounds, rather than 14.

*It doesn’t say it was 14 pounds of muscle, just 14 pounds. He may have been emphasizing strength gains, adding a small amount of muscle in a short period of time, but slightly de-emphasizing pure fitness in order to pack on some muscle for the pro game, making him slightly less trim but adding muscle. He will later try to burn those extra pounds he gained of fat off (he still ran well, btw).

OR he could’ve been using something. I’ve just been lifting, playing sports like football and wrestling, and working out long enough to know that unless they’re saying it was 14 pounds of pure muscle gained (which would obviously be attributable to using testosterone or HGH), there are plently of potential non-PED-related reasons why this fluctuation may have occurred.

  11. avatar Bassett says:

DSmizzle, Thanks for your thoughts, I am going to re-post them later to make sure others read.

  12. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

Smizzle- Did you look at Maybin? Your explanation is plausible, yet still a little rare of a case for Nicks, but Maybin is a full physical transformation. I lift regularly and the guy I mentioned earlier is a truck and lives at the gym and no matter what legal supplement the guy could be on the gain is unusual. Protein and creatine don’t do that. It is a rare gain.

  13. avatar DSmizzle says:

Yes, I agree that if we were to hypothetically attribute all 14 pounds to a gain in muscle mass, there would be no doubt in our minds what is going on.

On the other hand, a combination of a few of the things I pointed out above — completely separate from the possibility of an actual gain in muscle mass — could explain the discrepency.

  14. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

Agreed. That Maybin fellow and his 25lbs is wild though. His before and after shots are incredible. I hope Nicks isn’t doping. I’d like the league to be as clean as possible.

  15. avatar DSmizzle says:

Do you have a link with the Maybin before and after pictures? Sounds like an obvious PED case based upon what you’re saying!

  16. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

    Kyle has one above.

  17. avatar DSmizzle says:

Thanks. Ha, I just looked briefly at the pictures before reading it and it seems extraordinarily blatant!

Thanks again for the link guys. Interesting stuff.

  18. avatar JEFFDOLINI says:

I have been talking about Shonne Greene for a long time, I hope he didn’t improve so much that he is going to go before our second round pick………. I want this guy, he is a mauler!

  19. avatar Kyle "The Young Jet" says:

Maybin is on the Juice no argument about it.
