Yesterday was UConn’s pro day, and the Jets were apparently represented, with most of the rest of the league. During the day, first day RB prospect Donald Brown (5-10, 210) shared that he’s got some visits set up in the near future for our purposes, specifically one with the Jets according to the Norwich Bulletin.
Donald Brown, who shined at last month’s draft combine in Indianapolis, garnered a lot of attention. After withdrawing from the bench press at the combine because of a nicked shoulder, Brown lifted 225 pounds 17 times. Julius Williams was tops in that drill (36 times).
Expected to go in the second round, Brown already made a visit to Denver last week and has trips to see the New York Jets, San Diego, Philadelphia and Cincinnati on deck.
NFL Network draft guru Mike Mayock has called Brown
“… my second-best back coming into the Combine, and I think Donald is a first-round pick. He’s legit. The combine just underscored what I saw on tape. He has really good, not elite, speed. He has great explosion [and] … he’s talented enough to play in any scheme. The one thing he’ll have to learn is patience. He hurries his blockers. But what he does have is tremendously nimble feet, and you see him running through tackles with his lower-body strength.”
Although the consensus on Brown was that he ran what he termed as a personally “disappointing” 4.51 at the Combine, the Jets timed the prospect at 4.39 in Indianapolis. Brown has all the traits for which the Jets look. Although he’s a Giants fan (boo!) he even reached out to Tiki Barber for advice on his transition from college to the pros.
As far as where he’ll land, it’s a wide range, but when you look at the teams who have visits set up with Brown, you get a sense of where he’ll go … Denver picks 12th & 48th, the Jets pick 17th & 52nd, San Diego picks picks 16th and Cinci picks 6th & 38th. Right now the TJB Mock Draft Muncher has Brown slotted 38th.

Not that any of us want to here this (myself included), but we ever lost Leon to free agency or trade (Cutler), Donald Brown would be a good replacement. Both guys are small shifty backs that can break big plays.

Does a tenth of a second really matter?

Hoz,
I am on the the shonn Green train myself. I love the way he breaks tackles and I think being a big power back he is the perfect compliment to Leon.
However I watched some Donald Brown highlights and he looks good but very different from a shonn Green type of runner.

This kid is solid shone green is solid as well but my choice is Leshaun Mccoy hes a game changing type running back who will be available in the 2nd round

Looks like a poor mans B Westbrook…..
How many RB’s are the Broncos going to have…..Hillis, S Young, L Jordan, Buckholter, Arrington etc…..are they kidding me here??
They have 7 RB on the roster
-
7 and none of them are good. Hillis is a FB anyways. He only played RB last year because of all the injuries ahead of him. I don’t see why they would invest in a RB though, but it’s not like they have 6 healthy studs.

honestly i think that shonn green is the better RB than donald brown imean c’mon he had 100 yards rushing in every game he played in his first season as a starter thats pretty good to me

I don’t think it matters much. We will be fine with any one of the top ten RBs in this draft. I would prefer a RB with some size- 6′ plus. What it comes down to is our O Line and we are stacked. My fingers are crossed that none get injured, but as is they are a sick front line and should only be better after having worked with each other for a year already.
Rashad Jennings would be my choice at 52.
http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=56952&draftyear=2009&genpos=RBHe is big, strong, deceptively fast, he will bring the pain, he can catch and looks good in the open field. He reminds me of Brandon Jacobs, but faster. I think he will be able to wear teams down up front like Jacobs does.

If the Jets stay at 17 and 52 then they have no chance of picking Brown who is an excellent prospect and would be a perfect backup for Jones and his eventual replacement. He has terrific hands and has shown steady improvement. The Jets can trade down to a team looking for Freeman, assuming he is still there at 17, pick up the extra pick and allow them to fill their 3 big needs: a #1 WR, a DL, and the future replacement for TJ.

I’d like to see the Jets go after Glen Coffee. He’s a Thomas Jones type back, a workhorse that always falls forward when tackled. He should be available till the 5th-6th rounds.

Shonn green would be my choice.
