KC Joyner has a great piece on the Jets offensive line and specifically on the great play of Nick Mangold.

That’s a very interesting article. Hopefully TJ’s lawyers and agents are reading this. Coach Callahan is special, and if Ryan is right and Shotts is a HC next year, Callahan should definitely get the promotion. Great work!
GREAT article.
I love nick man-glaze. he is great.
Leon, mangold, and Brick were drafted together does anyone know why we are not talking extention with mangold and brick?
This 2 year spending spree could cost us some of our own guys. How are we going to afford to pay these 3 and revis, harris the following year?
AL:
I’m guessing one way we are going to afford resignings is by cutting guys like Damien Woody. Other contracts will also be expiring … maybe guys like Bryan Thomas, etc. Ideally, since we’re paying Gholston a ton anyway, he will have developed into a better player than BT anyway!
Having been an O Lineman through college ball I know a thing or two about the position. These guys are sick. All the pieces are there and they will be better this year after working together over an entire season already.
Well Lets put TJ on the block and see what we can get for him. Save some money on him, use a pick on a quality RB coming out of college and pick up a cheap Vet RB for a year. Use that money next year(uncapped) to lock these guys up and Look to add depth as well.
Its not about you TJ. Go to work. You wouldn’t be where you are without the hogs in front. Denver is a perfect example and have been for years. They can make any RB look good. Now the same can be said for us. It is about the scheme and O Line play.
YES! This is awesome stuff! No more stupid throws, just run the damn ball and throw deep to Clowney to keep the safeties out of the box… mix in a little play action over the middle to Keller… We’ll be in great shape!
AL –
I also think because they were first-rounders, Nick and Brick signed bigger and longer contracts than Leon did. Usually first-rounders sign 5- and 6-year contracts while 4th rounders sign 4-year deals.
According to NYjetscap.com, Brick is signed through 2011, Mangold through 2010 and Leon’s contract runs out at the end of 2009.
o.k that makes me feel better. I guess we can do mangold next year.
Leon is an asolutely outstanding player. The theoretical problem people will have with Leon making bank is that he isn’t a true #1 RB. However, he’s arguably more valuable as a total package. Somewhat tough to quantify, but 8 TD’s and 5 yards a carry and hundred of receiving yards and an elite return man all in one … he deserves a very large contract.
Does anyone remember when Mangold laid out Haynesworth? One of the best blocks of the season.
With reference to the question about resigning our own, I have followed the cap closely and can reassure you that the current structure has been set up so there should only be a few guys each year wanting big money extensions and there are guys at each point that could be released to make room for this.
The moves they have made were all done with a long-term view, apart from the Favre one, which was a bit of a short term gamble and ultimately didn’t pay off, but hasn’t completely messed up their long term future (in reality, all it did was cut back the spending they could do this year a little). As R in CT points out, the deals for those first round guys are a bit longer and will be restructured probably with a year to go.
Tell us something we don’t know.
Not you, Bent. I meant the outstanding stats put up by Mangold.
Bent :
I appreciate your cap genius but can you now tell Pete 57 that we not only overpaid for Pace but also for Faneca based on his FO Metrics.

Apparently we not only overpaid for Pace, but also for Faneca based on his FO Metrics.
