Link: Was Ryan at odds with Favre?

by Weeks on March 29th, 2009 at 12:58 pm

Now keep in mind this information is coming from a bias Giants fanatic but, Gary Myers said that Rex Ryan didn’t really want to keep recent retiree, Brett Favre, on the team anymore.

Myers points out that Ryan was hired on January 19, and that Favre retired on February 11.  In the interim, Ryan didn’t reach out to Favre once in an effort to persuade him to play.

“If Ryan wanted Favre, he would have called him or shown up on his doorstep in Hattiesburg,” Myers writes.

I don’t have much faith in Myers but he does make a somewhat valid point (which is an unheard of,). The Jets didn’t have cap room to play around with at the time, with Favre’s large salary on the board and since Ryan wanted to bring Baltimore to New York, he figured he would just turn the other cheek on #4. And now for this is the reason the Jets have been following the: ‘Win with the defense, make a few big plays on offense’ mentality. Regardless what’s done is done and there is no choice but to go with it.

But you do need a QB to keep the Opponent’s Defense honest. I don’t know of many teams that can run the ball facing 8 in the box. Just look at the 2007 JETS.

And of course I am completely against the JETS plans to shaft their fans by holding training camp in up State NY. Why don’t they also play their regular season games up there!!

As much as I love coaches begging players (esp. QBs) to play for them… oh wait. I dont…

Yea… lets go trade for Cutler!…. oh wait.. lets not.

I hope Ryan was at odds with Favre. I was at odds with Favre. Football was at odds with Favre. Kellen Clemens is better than Brett Favre.

“kellen clemems is better than breet farve”

    what are you smoking?

  6. avatar Harvlis says:

This is a good sign for Ryan. It didn’t take much to know that Farve has very little left. He doesn’t want to get hit, which is proven by his throws to nowhere. I will be glad to see a hungry, young QB under center.

Screw Myers! Enough about FARVE already! Put it to sleep!!!!!

    Ratlif will WIN the JOB!!!!!!!!!

    Joe

Favre was clogging the cap….Ryan needed to come in here and get guys to implement his D and after last years late season debacle, why would he want him? I would rather come in and get a fresh start and free up the cap than to deal with the Favre fiasco. He played it smart and it paid off. Now if Mangini wants him to coach/play in Cleveland, he will have to give us something for him, as Tannenbaum did not grant him a release.Smart move Mr. T. Because now, if we need Cleveland to help us make a move to get Cutler, we have something Managin might want plus picks.

Just another reason why I love Rex Ryan.

To the Ed(itor), I’ve been bleeding green here in upstate NY ever since the Jets upset the mighty Baltimore. This fan certainly won’t feel shafted if they held training camp in my backyard. As for holding there regular season games “up there”, I wished they could. Up yours!!

    Gordon–You know nothing about football.

BTW, I wouldnt call myers a giant fanatic. I am a giants fan and most giants fans believe that myers is a cowboy fan.

favre was the right move at the time, but hes not what we need right now. ratliff is the guy if not cutler

  13. avatar Gregory Rasputin says:

The assumption in this report that in ‘ignoring’ Brett Favre Coach Ryan was opting for defense in lieu of offense is too minimalistic to be considered.

We will have plenty of offense without Brett Favre.

My personal hunch is that Coach Ryan had numerous reasons for letting the wind blow at will…and I like the way the wind is blowing.

BRETT FAVRE WAS NOT BROUGHT TO NEW YORK TO WIN…
so much as to sell tickets, raise advertising revenue, and move merchandise.

He did that…Now let’s move on.

  14. avatar Angel Navedo says:

Didn’t Ryan say he wasn’t going to show up on Favre’s door because he doesn’t have that kind of relationship with him?

There’s a difference between pursuing someone you KNOW and have coached for years, vs. knocking on some guys door and saying “Hey, I’m your new coach. Wanna play?”

It’s a silly argument for Myers to make.

  15. avatar Lafflin says:

Farve was the wrong move lastr year, and I’ll be very glad once I’m sure there’s no chance that the Jets will go out and get Cutler.
The point that his entire locker room loathes him seems to be missed, all we hear about is his relationship with his coach.

What are the odds that neither of our QB’s can be decent?
I say leave well enough alone. All we needed last year was a QB that wouldn’t loose games for us and we’d have been in the post season. Unfortunately we didn’t have that.
The last thing we need this year is some locker room dividing jackass.

  16. avatar DKnyj says:

Can we get Meyers to please stop writing about the Jets? He knows nothing about the franchise, is constantly criticizing and then contradicting himself, we, the fans, need to do something about this.
