First 100 Days: Days 66 & 67

Just like another administration’s first 100 days, so too TJB will be keeping watch over the Rex Ryan administration for the first 100 days … playing it by the numbers if you will. Each day, we’ll try to keep the associated day number in play.

Day Sixty Six

Class of ‘66 – Emerson Boozer,

1966 – The Jets were 6-6-2 under Weeb and Namath threw 19 TDs and 27 INTs.

As Worn By – Randy Rasmussen, Dave Cadigan, Pete Kendall

Kendall’s Kontract — The Jets screwed the pooch with the whole handling of the former Guard’s contract. Kendall wanted just $1 million more on his contract after claiming promises to re-work his deal were made. Kendall never got his money, and he was out of town before camp finished. It took exactly one game for Chad Pennington to get injured due to poor line play, and basically the rest of the 2007 season was an excercise of pride. Thanks again Tannenbaum.

Day Sixty Seven

The Ghost of Kimo – Signed to help implement the 3-4, it was hard to imagine that Dewayne Robertson and KVO manning 2/3s of the line in 2006 … shocking.

Class of ‘67 – Randy Rasmussen

1967 – The team’s first over .500 season. Weeb and Namath led the team to an 8-5-1 record.

As Worn By – Dave Herman, Darrell White, Dwayne White, Kareem McKenzie

Add your sixty fives and sixes in the comments …

  1. He’s about to make the same mistake with TJ and it will cost us AGAIN….just like Kendall.

  2. Think about Kimo and how difficult it is to play LDE in a 3-4, all of a sudden Kenyon Coleman doesn’t look that bad

  3. Why why why why whyyyy did we let go of Kareem?!

  4. Salary cap. They had no money and Kareem signed a big money deal. Keeping him was never an option.

  5. Ahh..the road grader! I really liked watching that guy play.

  6. Ummm! Alan Faneca? I think he deserves a mention as a 66, don’t you think?

  7. Ah ha ha! Kimo, where are you now?
Remember when you sacked Tom Brady in the Jets 2006 win @ NE? Yeah, that was awesome… However…..it was your only sack that season!!!

  8. The KC “66″ is for his birthday, June 6…D-Day, which is, to say the least, ironic. The KC “67″ is his shabby showing against the Bills in 2007. To recap, KC started against Baltimore, in Baltimore, and had a flawed, but encouraging debut. His next stint at QB, however, was against the Bills when KC replaced an ineffective Chad. KC went 5-12 for 67 yards and 2 INTs. It was not a good performance, but what was worse was that he did not seem ready, which was strange given that he must have known that Chad was hurting. Here’s Jeremy Green of Scouts Inc.’s take (from ESPN.com):

Those who kept this game on long enough saw New York turn the page on Chad Pennington and go to second-year signal-caller Kellen Clemens. The question is this: Who will be the QB next week? Pennington was generally ineffective, but more disturbing was that Clemens did not appear ready to play. Clemens had to have known there was a chance he could play, yet he was not sharp. He finished the game 5-for-12 for 67 yards and two interceptions. Yes, Clemens gives the Jets the big-time arm and more big-play potential, but what he doesn’t give them right now is great leadership and good decision-making. That was evident in his struggles in the last four minutes of this game. This was not a great situation for Clemens to be thrown into, but you definitely would like to see him handle it a little better. Coach Eric Mangini once again has to decide who will be his starting QB, and Clemens had better hope that decision does not rest on his play at the end of this game.
    *******
Now, to KC’s credit, he then played what I thought was his best game the following week against the Redskins (an OT loss, which was not really his fault). But, KC’s “deer in the headlights” play was a frequent problem, something that was on full display in the Buffalo game.
