News: Jay Cutler on the Block

Let’s see how this plays out. I imagine that, yes, the Jets will be interested. I don’t know that this is the right move for the organization, but 26 year old QBs with proven ability like this don’t come along all that often. You can’t think that the Jets won’t at least make inquiries. What it comes down to is the price … can the Jets get Cutler for a reasonable value with the team and pieces they already have?

Thanks to the many of you who sent this on …

  1. YEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH BABBYYYYYYYYY

  2. i mean if our other option is starting kellen clemens we have to do this. what is a reasonable price for cut and how can we satisfy the broncos need for a qb?

  3. Posted this like 2 seconds ago, soon as I got home:

Cutler??? I mean this guy is a bigger diva than TO. The more I hear about this situation, the more I don’t want this QB on this Jets team. I mean come on??? This much fallout from a team attempting to trade you??? Absolutely ridiculous.

  4. An NFL GM said it’d take two 1sts and something else, which, to me, seems like too much. I’d like to know what the rest of our locker room thinks of him beyond Rhodes.

  5. Aren’t you guys at all bothered by this QBs behavior? I mean whatever happened to professionalism? Competitive spirit? Fight? All this crying by Cutler is killing me.

  6. And def. no 2 first rund picks for this joker. We have the leverage more than Broncos. Any smart GM could turn this into a steal.

  7. If I was in Cutlers shoes I would be very disgruntled about some new HC coming in and immediately trying to trade me. Im sure any of you would be angered like Cutler if you were in his position. Why should the players have any loyalty if the Front Office doesnt?

  8. If I was in Cutlers shoes I would be very disgruntled about some new HC coming in and immediately trying to trade me. Im sure any of you would be angered like Cutler if you were in his position. Why should the players have any loyalty if the Front Office doesnt?

  9. i dont think wer going to be able to get him for a reasonable price bc we dont have a qb to offer. I think if detroit wants Cutler it will be very hard for us to outbid them. But if they decide that they wud rather have Stafford then maybe the jets can out bid the Bucs. In the end i dont see this happening…If the browns are going to get involved as a 3rd team why wouldnt they just go after cutler themselves? The truth is i hope we dont get this guy…i know that hes better than anything we have but hes just an ugly d-bag and i dont want to have to root for him. Its bad enough that A-rod is on the yankees, no matter how much that guy produces i just hate having him on my team.

  10. uuumph, D-bag is certainly the word. with a capital D. Let it go Jets. This guy has no sense of team responsibility. No allegience to the players, or else he would’ve uped the ante to keep himself in Denver… with his teammates.

  11. NOOOOOO.. I dont care wat anyone says i think kellen can do it and do more than manage the game .. BEFORE MATT CASEL GOT HIS START WHO NEW HE WOULD B THAT GOOD?? He had a good team around him that all kellen needs.. JUST GIVE HIM A CHANCE.

  12. Last year Cutler had 616 pass attempts. He was second in the league to Drew Brees who threw the ball 635 times. He does not fit into a team that wants to run the ball a lot. He is a spread QB. He also had 18 interceptions, another number that shows he doesn’t belong on a run first, ball control team.

  13. The Jets cant afford to give Clemens a chance. Cutler is the right move right now simply put. He gives the Jets the best chance to compete in the AFC right now.

  14. 1. Cutler is clearly a bad locker room presence. He has been a huge baby about this whole situation.
    2. It seems clear the Jets are going all out in order to get him. However, it seems like other teams are also going to go all out to get him.
    3. The price for Cutler will be very “high”. (However, all draft picks are really a throw of the dice.) Possibly 2 1st round draft picks. Or 1st and 3rd or other combinations. It seems other teams have better picks to offer than the Jets.
    4. My reaction is “meh.” I mean, I think he’s a bad character guy but could be a good/great QB. Who knows? He hasn’t proved it for 5 years or anything.
    5. He can’t possibly be worse than Favre. Only 6 starting QBs in the league might be worse than Favre. And Jets fans, and the media rejoiced over getting him. Yes, I am still bitter that fellow Jets fans actually thought the Favre trade was a good thing.

  15. Matt, Those numbers only show that Cutler did exactly what he was supposed to do in the offensive system he played in. Just because the Broncos had him throwing the ball over 600 times doesnt mean he needs to do that with the Jets. His 18 interceptions is also a direct result of throwing the bll 616 times. Im not great at math, but im sure 18 picks out of 616 pass attempts aint too bad.

  16. I dont care how good he is, I just dont want a guy like this on my team. If i were the Broncos i wouldnt trade him. Id tell him that if he doesnt wanna play he can go find a job at a grocery. But dont do him any favors. I really hope the Jets arent able to get him because i know that they are going to try. I dont wanna win a superbowl with an A-hole as the face of my franchise

  17. And Revis, how exactly do you rationalize this kind of behavior from a QB, the leader of the team?

  18. Maybe if the Jets run the ball too much hel demand a trade to a team that runs a spread o

  19. Mr.T pulled solid deals for TJ and Big Jinx, we’ll see but I think Lito will work out too…Denver is in his sights now and nobody is better than Mr. T at getting his guy. Denver caved to Cutler and they will cave to Mr. T. I can actualy see the Jets putting the QB question behind them for the forseeable future. That is golden in any day and age.

  20. Igs, you’re pushing it with that statement……think it over…really hard. He hasn’t been in that league long, but had huge success as a young quarterback….he calls out nobody, etc. Patriots staff are overrated, always thinking there so great…then what happens. I mean this coach is really nobody established.

  21. lgs,

I rationalize it as a player who was extremely offended and back-stabbed by a Franchise who hired a new HC who then went and tried to trade a stud QB behind his back. Was Cutler ever a problem before this? NO. It’s one thing to say Cutler handled the situation in an immature manner, but don’t act like this is characteristic of him, because he’s never been a problem before.

  22. just the look of this guys face makes me sick. hes just looks like such a sleez bag

  23. keep it in house kellen has talent just watch the game tame vs. the ravens he should have won that game if it werent for dropped passes. if by chance both ratliff and kc fail at least we kno what wer dealing with and there will be a very strong qb class next yr. bottom line is im sick of not having our own qb. i want a qb that we have built ourselves not someone elses player

  24. Hes never been a problem in his entire 3 years. Aparently hes disliked by his teamates.

  25. And BTW, who the hell is Josh McDaniels to try and trade Denvers franchise 25 year old QB during his first month on the job. How could you expect Cutler to not be pissed?

    Crennel
    Weiss
    Mangini
    McDaniels
-lets see if McDaniels can become the first success story out of the Bellichick coaching staff.

  26. No thanks. Stick with Ratliff and Clemens and see what they can do. Denver is going to ask too much for Cutler.

  27. I guess all of you anti-Cutler guys would rather wait another 40 years for a superbowl instead of trading for a franchise QB?

Come on Jet fans, who are we to turn down a QB like Cutler when we have such horrible history

  28. Matt, are you kidding me? You’re saying Denver is not a running team. If you have Marshall, Royal, Daniels, etc., what the hell are you going to do with them? Teams are worried about their running system despite whatever RB…you have at least seven in the box resulting in single coverages/miss-matches. Cmon! What do the Jets have to take advantage of, Coles? They don’t run spread, Patriots do that….Denver does quite a bit of single back, etc.

  29. The most i would give up for him is a 1st rounder this year and upto a 2nd rounder next year along with one of our QB’s.

Gholston is our #1 pick this year.

  30. IM WITH KERRY RHODES ON THIS ONE…..
there asking price is like multiple 1st rounds a 2nd and a 3rd round and maybe even a pick later on mid draft … I heard that on espn when these cutler rumors started getting around.

  31. Go get him… this guy has alot of talent. He has been playing on a team without a running game or a defense. If he comes to New York, he will be a winner. Kerry Rhodes will learn to like him when he takes the jets to the playoffs and beyond for the next decade.

I dont care what it takes… go get cutler

  32. Jesus,
Mcdaniels has the right to trade him if he feels it makes his team better. Who is Cutler? hes been in the NFL for 3 years, and he thinks that hes untouchable? come on its rediculous, this guy is such a baby. This is how the NFL works why is Cutler above it? no excuse. I understand that hes a “franchise qb”, but id rather root for a class act thats not as talented.

  33. revis, actually he was, nobody likes the dude. i mean, seriously, do you really see this guy being a team first guy??? I mean I ear you about what could be upsetting hem. And think these are legitamate reasons to be upset. But to cause this much disturbace, I definatively do not want this guy on my team.

  34. id rather have Staford than cutler anyway we can make that trade happen?

  35. McDaniels will be fired within the next 3-5 years, during that time Cutler will be leading another franchise to the playoffs. And Denver will be regretting hiring McDaniels.

Rooting for class acts is fine, but dont expect to win with them. We all know that “Mangini” strategy doesnt work. All it gets you is player like Kimo Von Oelhoffen and Kenyon Coleman, nice guys, but very average players. Give me a nasty QB with some flair.

  36. lgs, I’m not hear to debate his pschological make-up, or his personal decisions, but I will say he is a hell of a QB. Cutler is a competitor and he wants to win, I dont think there should be any concern over him not being a team guy if he comes here.

  37. nasty and flair? suddenly demanding a trade has been flipped around to be a positive qb trait? he acts like a baby girl and now hes nasty with flair.

  38. And I feel you on that Revis, but this much ado??? Over a trade probe? This guy thinks he’s the whole enchilada and a run first offense doesn;t need this kind of guy.

  39. Come on… if TO was doing this same crap we would all be saying how ridiculous he is.

  40. freddy, the nasty and flair comments were describing his tendency to talk trash to opposing players, something I have no problem with.

lgs, at the end of the day, Cutler really didnt cause that much of a stir. He got angry about being offered in a trade and immediately requested a trade. He’s held that stance since and hasnt caused any commotion.

  41. TO is a WR who is in his late 30’s, and hes done it his hole career. Not comparable situations.

We all saw the Jets potential last year with strong QB play. They were 8-3 and appeared to be one of the elite teams in the NFL. Everyone was calling for an all NY super bowl. Then favre fell off and we finished 9-7. With Cutler we would have that same potential with a higher ceiling for success. Cutler is 100 times better right now then Favre was last summer when we signed him. The Jets are legit with Cutler at QB, without him we will struggle to make the playoffs.

  42. revis, you’re downplaying thta. he got offered in a trade that he would be fine if it was a lesser player. And he has caused 3-4 weeks worth of contreversy over it. Dag, is his ego that big? i wasn’t against this at first, but I can say definatively now that I would not want this kind of player.

  43. Did he really cause 3-4 weeks of controversy, or did he simply ask for a trade and then sat quitely over the past 3-4 weeks? The Media, especially ESPN, is the reason why it seems like so much controvery, but at the end of the day all he did was ask for a trade once.

Players ask for trades all the time

  44. Im off to bed, I hope when I wake up for work I see on the bottom line of ESPN that Jay Cutler has been traded to the Jets.

  45. If we can get him at a good price, it would be worth it. I’d still rather take my chances on Freeman/Stafford/Sanchez.

  46. No way would I give 2 1st rounders for Cutler. Stick with what we have and see what they can do.

  47. JesusRevis,

Cutler started this nonsense well before the trade rumors. When Shanahan was fired and his OC left for USC he wouldn’t even pick up the phone to speak to the Bronco’s owner, yes the same guy who signs Cutler’s checks every week. So to say that he has done nothing except ask for a trade couldn’t be further from teh truth.

  48. ESPN.com has the odds for the teams pursuing Cutler listed as follows:

    Jets 3-1
    Buc 3-1
    Detroit 4-1
    Chicago 5-1
    Cleveland 5-1
    Jax 8-1
    San Fran 8-1
    Washington 10-1
    Minn 12-1
    Tenn 18-1
    St. Louis 20-1
    Seattle 25-1
    Philly 30-1
    KC 50-1

    PLACE YOUR BETS

  49. My bet is the Bucs

  50. Package Bryan Thomas and Kenyon Coleman in a deal through a third party….If can we can still come out with a first round I would be laughing. You all know Denver needs these players badly. The only player I see Denver has for a 3-4 scheme is Jarvis Moss, the former first round…always injured.

  51. Cutler is not worth it. 2 first round picks and maybe more? That’s absurd and that’s probably what they’ll get. Denver is desperate, but there is so much interest in Cutler. I’m not willing to sacrifice two first rounders and probably a starter on our D to make this happen. No way. If we want a QB, get Freeman. But better yet, draft a WR in the first round so we can have that number 1 receiver. We have too many needs to throw most of them away from 1 guy.

He has the talent, but can he be the team leader? I honestly don’t think so. Maybe he’ll be good for a year, but as soon as the media hops on him, his feelings will get hurt again. Rhodes insist he isn’t the only person in the locker room that feels that way, and I’ll talk him on his word.

An interesting comment I saw somewhere else is – how much trust would players have in Rex if the Jets go out and trade for Cutler, since Rex has be adamant that Clemens or Ratliff (I hope the latter) will be the starter? Normally I wouldn’t put much faith into this argument, but Rex Ryan is a new coach and most of the players don’t know him. Moves like this can be made once you’ve established trust with your players, but they simply don’t know him.

  52. god damn it now i need to eat a chicken cutlet thanks guys if this guy gets traded to the jets im gonna be sick of it after 2 weeks

  53. I agree completely with JesusRevis, the opportunity to pick up a franchise quarterback at a discount rate is to big to let go. As much as I would like to believe that Ratfliff is the future Cutler represents a sure thing.

Finally, Denver has had no defense and no running game! Jets plus Cutler fulfill’s Rex’s promise, “Watch out because the Jets are coming”

  54. wow theres jet fans in LA? propsss man i guess the jets are all over LAX ……..and probably alot of people who root for underdogs across america……another reason why if the jets get knocked out of the playoffs i always root for the teams with no SB this year it was atl and arizona it always seems like the same teams always win

  55. Just realized that this may be the most epic April Fool’s joke to ever come out of Denver…

  56. As Bent mentioned before, We can’t afford Cutler. Also Denver has sucked since they’ve stopped being a run first team so screw Marshall & Royal. Outside of economics I couldn’t tell if this would be a good move or not. It’s all 20/20

  57. Cutlet is a jerk….period…. U wanna get mad over trade proposals..fine that’s your call….you wanna ignore the people that pay your salary and feed your family…for something as minute as this especially when they tried to reconcile… Your an a$$…stay away from the jets talent and all he’s a bum! And a disgrace to the game..

  58. Are you kidding me. A young, talented quarterback who within 3 years becomes a probowler and you don’t want him.

With the exception of Revis and Washington give them who they want and what they want. 1st round draft picks are a crapshoot. No doubt of Sanchez, Freeman and Staffard 2 of the 3 will be busts. Cutler is proven and for the comparisons to Farve, we were 8 and 3 when his age caught up with him…Go get Cutler!!

  59. Please Woody! Stop trying to sell PSL’s and let T-Rex put their team together!

  60. im not one who cherishes draft picks. they hit and miss. I say get him.

  61. Whoa whoa whoa….revis your talking as if the guy is a premier qb. Did I see you say he is 100 times better than favre is?(and I am faar from a favre fan)…and he’ll lead some other team to the playoffs?

Umm….how about he neads to lead his own team to the playoffs for once and prove that he’s a winner before he leads another team to the promiose land. Some of you crown him and demand so much respect for the young 3 year vet who hasn’t proved a thing since being in the league, while long tenured veterans in the league who have brought a lot more to the table and sacrficed year in year out for their teams, get shafted daily by these franchises…and cutler is an exception?…because they tried to *gasp* trade him? C’mon now…

How about actually avoiding a loosing season for once before you go yapping your mouth of to proven winners such as rivers etc.(And many other pissed of opponents) and stop ruffling your teammates feathers with pure arrogance and actually worry about winning rather than you promoting that your arm’s stronger than that of an elway or favre.(Real classy I must say)

The guy has no sense of class whatsoever and so you people understand what I mean, every player “dislikes” the people on the other team, but at the end of the day there is respect for one another as individuals…something cutler doesn’t have…even for his peers.

All in all, I’m not a fan of the guy, would be hard to root for him, and in all honesty I’m not impressed that much…I can name 10 qbs I would easily take ahead of cutler. I didnt know 25tds and 18 ints and an unarranted pro bowl trip merrited someone sooooo much respect and adoration…smh, so sad.

    Kellen or ratliff, nuff said.

  62. Defense or no defense….its quite funny how denver’s decline started once shanahhan prematurely handed the starting job over to cutler…which would ultimately cost him his job.

They have been a loosing organization ever since and have have not got a wiff of the excellence they had since that 13-3 season they had with plummer leading the way.

And just for kicks I would take these guys over cutler anyday!

    Brees
    Big ben
    Manning(both of em!)
    Brady
    River
    Warner
    Mcnabb
    Rodgers
    Matt ryan
    Palmer

And maybe…..juuust maybe good ol chad, hahaha

  63. this didnt work last year, it will not work ths year. this whole situation sucks, and if cutler came in and didnt perform as an all pro; the media would be all over him and we would have a cutter

it will be pretty funny if he goes to the lions and just gets killed

  64. Since Tannenbaum has stepped in at GM he has basically got whatever he wanted. I am in favor of sticking with the kellen plan but i have a feeling cutler will be a jet. The kids talented so it doesnt kill me. I just hope the price is reasonable and he understands that we want to run the ball

  65. And last but not least he led his team to a bigger collapse than than we had! Had a big slice of that humble pie that the raiders were serving up! Lol

  66. Anyone who wouldn’t want Cutler to play for Jets next year is a total tard.

  67. I don’t think the Jets have a real shot at him anyway and I’m glad for it.

I say he goes to Chicago. Just a feeling.

  68. And why is that HAPPY BOB?

Because we actually use our football brains to see what a player has/doesnt have to offer? How about we back statements like that with some logic buddy…..

  69. hey david, actually i was born on the better side of CT, so I’m a Jets fan that moved out to LA. i actually go to law school out here, but in my section (out of 80), there’s a few diehard Jets fans which is always nice.

and for the guy who said this was an april’s fool joke, john clayton actually called denver to make sure that it was in fact not a joke. i’m actually dead serious about that. that must have been a really awkward phone call. “so is this a joke?” “nope.” “really?”

  70. i am an 150% jets fan…but i hardly blog…but i just had too on this one…y dont most jets fan want a franchise qb…we havent had one in yearssss…bringing cutler will make that change…yes i do agree he hasnt proven anything in the nfl, but none of us cannot say he doesnt have talent…i say we bring him in ONLY for a reasonable price…i say a 2nd rounder and a few defensive players like kenyon and bryan thomas….hey maybe mangini will want somebody on our roster and if its fine wit MR T, i am fine wit it too, he knos wut he is doing…as long as it isnt david harris, revis, rhodes, or pace i am coo wit it….and if cutler does come in i am sure rex and rhodes will put him in his place and let him kno wut his role on this team is….if this happens we will b one of the top contenders in the AFC!!! GO JETSSSSSSSSS!!!!

  71. ?

  72. Same old Jets with that quick fix plan.. It didnt work with Favre..and it wont work with Cutler.. Go with what you have. If you are true Jet fan like myself ; aren’t you sick of the same old bleep bleep!!!!!!!!!!

  73. Offer ‘em Rhodes (takes care of that potential clash of egos) and a #1. The Jets have no one you have to game plan for on offense. Cutler will give DCs something to think about.

  74. rhodes and TJ are on the block right now….and you never hear of the broncos offence saying cutler is a problem. have to get this guy………i say give them TJ and draft Green in the second and maybe a free agent for security….what would make me even happier is the browns get him and release or trade Anderson. 1 he will be cheaper and i think have the same effect…i know hes not cutler but still more proven then what we have but yet still allows the growth of ratt…..

  75. If I were Bowlen, I would have fired McDaniels before giving away a QB that threw for 4,500 yards….WOW! This coach is in idiot. But one man’s loss is another man’s gain.

  76. TJ is not worth much, because he’s 31 and wants a new contract; Rhodes is not on the block at all. The FS is a big component to Ryan’s defense, and he’s already one of the best in the game.
Best case scenario, the Jets can trade for Cutler with a #1, and #3 or #4, and possibly a future #1. That will severely hamper their ability to fill needs they have right now (no blocking TE on the roster, no #1 WR, depth at other positions). And if they give away a good player in the trade, they won’t have the draft picks to fill that position either.
In the final analysis, is Cutler THAT MUCH better than Ratliff and Clemens? Does it make the team better in the long term? I don’t know the answer, but I hope the Jets management thinks long and hard about it.

  77. i wouldn’t care if we traded jones, danny woodhead is our backup RB and look at his college stats, he was injured last year but he was great in college and it’ll help to have richardson back paving the way for both…. word on the street is that revis, harris, bryan thomas could be dangled in talks, after everything ryan said about the advantage of having two mike backers in harris and scott and having the best corner in the league in revis, i dont see them trading either… but i can see them trading bryan thomas and a package of first third, next year’s first or maybe get summin goin with cleveland

  78. Obtaining Cutler is a bad football decision, but it’s all about selling PSL’s, and that is what is driving the Jets..
    My problems with Cutler:
    1. It undermines Rex’s way of playing (defense, ball control, minimum mistakes).
    2. I have a problem with Jay’s drinking coupled with his diabetes…
    3. Rumors that Cutler is as dumb as a post, and there doesn’t seem to be a lack of the dedication required to be a top flight QB.
    4. The Patriots got a premium second round choice for Cassel, it will just make me sick to overpay and mortgage the future for this immature dingbat.

  79. Danny Woodhead? Danny Woodhead?!! No disrespect, Jay,but Danny Woodhead?!!

  80. There are a few players the Jets CANNOT trade for financial reasons. Pace, Scott, Gholston, Revis and Rhodes are all definitely on this list. Cotchery, Ferguson and Keller probably are too.

Cutler is definitely going to want a new deal because he will forego a potential $4m bonus in 2009 (which he would have received just for taking 70% of the snaps) if traded. I’m assuming he’ll want a big signing bonus to recover this money and probably a salary bump to something like $10m per year too. To fit this under the cap, the Jets would have to structure it so that there was a big cap hit next year and then hope for an uncapped year and would be forced to restructure the deal in 12 months if 2010 is not uncapped. This obviously increases the risk if he doesn’t pan out.

  81. No interest in this guy. Jets passed on him in the draft and now we’re supposed to give more to get him? These rumors of Revis being involved in any trade, scare me. He is critical to the D. I don’t mind our QB situation at all, especially playing smashmouth football this year.

  82. Relax. Trading Revis is a financial impossibility. See my post above yours.

  83. A kid like Cutler is a once in every 5-10 year talent. Do I love his behavior…No. But there are alot of guys in this league that have shown much worst behavior than a 25 yr old QB feeling insulted by his new coach.

I am not sure if we have the firepower to get him unlike Detriot does but his agent seems to have a lot to say in where he goes and …..New York, going into brand new stadium sure seems like a nice landing spot.

    Go get him… #17 and a comp pick next yr …..maybe a #1 based on his 2009 season…..Done!!!

  84. This isn’t the first time a qb has ever been upset and asked for a trade. John Elway and Eli Manning turned out alright. I say get him.

  85. I believe the broncos is going tro get this over with fast,I can see. Him being traded today

  86. Awesome! Lets go get him!

  87. PLEASE STOP calling Cutler a baby. Sure he’s vein and yes he mishandled the situation just as much as the Bronco’s, but you need this quality in a QB. All of them have it. Just some of them don’t show it in the press.

And before you go further down the road in indicting Cutler for not being a leader, what sort of leader was JOHN ELWAY before he became the HOF QB that he was? Oh yeah, a whiner, a prima donna, a bad locker room influence, not a leader – which is why he “cried” his way out of Baltimore by saying he was going to play for the Yankees, thereby forcing a trade to Denver.

With all that said, I would like the Jets to get Cutler, but not for the price tags people are throwing out there. And when it is said and done, I still think the Jets will offer, but will be outbid. So it’s off to war w/ Clemm and Ratty we go…

  88. Before this blow up, it would have taken at least 2 #1s to get Cutler. But Denver has no leverage, so if somebody is going to overpay, they would pay that price. More likely a #2 this year and a pick based upon performance next year.

  89. I agree with the majority, lets stick with what we got, we don’t play West Coast football and we tried the gun slinging QB, we need a ball manager with a big arm, hence CK or Ratty, lets stick with what we got, people seem to forget that Clemens was a stud in college but needed time to develop before he was a starter, once he had the opportunity he was stellar, some projected him in the 1st round if he had not broken his leg, Ratty was a decent player as well, a natural athlete who played on a mediocre team in college, lets keep our picks and let them duel it out, besides, Cutler is going to be VERY, VERY expensive in the near future, tying up that kind of money can hurt our plans for the future.

  90. just heard on espn that the jets traded thomas jones and #17 to denver for cutler.

    Happy April Fool’s Day!!!!

  91. hahahhahaha I hate you Ed

  92. Just get him. He’s 25. What good QB is not a prima donna ?

Start with a #1 and Kerry Rhodes (overrated). Work towards adding a #2. But if it takes two #1’s you do it. #1 picks are a less than 50% chance anyway.

  93. LOL I was so pissed about a minute ago.

  94. NO CUTLER! This guy is going to be worse then A-Rod. Like A-Rod, he hasn’t won anything, chokes in the clutch, and he’s even more senstive then A-Rod. Culter won’t be able to handle the pressure and the media in NY. Not to mention that Culter may have a drinking problem according to PFT. At least A-Rod has Hall of Fame stats, Culter can’t even post a QB rating above 90 for the season.

For those of you defending Culter’s reaction to Denver’s attempt to trade him, I say grow up. Cutler is an adult, he should act like it.

Look at Pennington, he didn’t complain once when the Jets soured on him many times despite that fact that he was the only qb to consistently lead the franchise to the playoffs. Instead, Pennington made it his personal jihad to destroy the Jets everytime he plays against them. That’s the type of leader I want leading my football team.

  95. On Mike & Mike in the Morning, Clayton went through (at least) ten teams who have a reason to get involved in a trade. As opposed to two teams trying to get Favre on the cheap, only one of them in the other conference, this is going to get (too) expensive.

    Cutler equals subtraction by addition.

Stay away unless he costs no more than a first but Kellen. And, I would rather keep the #1 to upgrade another need and if Ratliff and Kellen cannot do it, get a bonafide QB in next year’s draft.

    Harlan

  96. Roads overrated, D coordinators plan around him, and he needs help on the opposite side he plays on, he is good and can be great in the right system lets look at how he does in the Rex regime before we call him overrated.

  97. Nice one Ed(itor).

Does anyone else have mixed feelings on this one? I think Cutler has tremendous talent, but at the same time, I’m dying to see what KC can do if given a chance.

  98. Cutler sure will keep the running lanes open. No one is going to test that arm and it can shred through our winds.

If Kerry hates him than for the team dynamic I’m against it, but I think a few beers can smooth almost anything over. At the end of the day for the right price I think we have to make the deal. If they want too much screw em.

  99. I actually picked up the phone to call my boy when i saw The Ed(itor) post ……then read the little prank….

    Very smooth….you SOB!!! lol

    Zenlaw,

I have mixed feelings but I am willing to bet that KC is not the QB that Culter already is….let alone how much better Culter can get

  100. The jets will over pay for cutler because they have psl on there mind what that being said a 1rd pick and a pick next yr will get it done and after that we have to go out and sign torry holt why not go all out since we is ready to blow this draft up to get this kid.

Cutler to holt will be a deadly combination just as good as brady to moss and edwards to TO………..we instantly have the most exciting division in the NFL

  101. At the end of the day, what you’re seeing is a guy putting his own ego in front of the entire team. Can anyone really dispute that that’s what Cutler is doing right now? How else do you rationalize it? Not the kind of player we need.

  102. If we were going to throw a player into the deal, it’d be David Harris. Rhodes isn’t going anywhere, and if he’s overrated, it is only slightly. Revis!!? Contracts aside, who in their right mind would want to trade him? For anything?

    1st rounder this year
    3rd rounder this year
escalator pick next year that becomes a 3rd if we don’t make playoffs and he plays 80% of snaps, a 2nd if we make playoffs (80% of snaps played still), or a 1st if we make superbowl (again, 80% of snaps)

That is the highest I would be willing to pay.

  103. Kerry will have to get over the fact that Culter lit us up like a candle and talked smack about it to his face….I love Kerry but he looks like a bitch on this Culter subject…

Culter came in with a 6 string RB and zero defense a knocked every Jet (including Kerry) and fan on their ass that we never recovered from.

I hated Sean Avery before he was a Ranger….now I love the guy….You hate them before they win for you Kerry….get over it !!!

  104. lgs??

Who has proved more in this league so far??? Culter or a Belichick coat tail riding 32 yr old OC that came in and tried to immediatly get rid of his franchise QB and bring in his own guy??

Name me the QB that has had to go back and trust this type of coach?

The Belichick tree has provided us with Romeo, Mangini and the likes of Nick Saban….not exactly great leaders of men….

  105. Let’s put aside the “Should we” debate for a second and talk about “could we”?
What would it realistically to take to get a QB who is about to enter his prime years? I think you have to ship a number one, along with baby lockdown.

I’ll say this, if Tanny decided he wants the guy there is a real good chance we will get him. Say what you will about I’d GM’s motives for the move, but when he wants a guy he gets the guy.

  106. Not to blow up your spot Drew, but hasn’t Saban won a national championship at the collegiate level? That’s a sign of a pretty good leader IMO.

  107. Brendan- College coaching is so different from the pros. Saban couldn’t cut it on the pro level leading adult men with their fragiel egos (they all have them), but he sure can develop young players and lead them.

  108. Drew,

Name me a player that throws fits when his ego is offended by the team and does quirky things and makes a big fuss about it, not really caring about his teammates…

Oh, I know, Terell Owens. I didn’t want T.O. wen he was free and I don’t want this guy. He’s not tough. He’s a big baby. He’s sitting at home right no wwith his arms folded holding his breath.

  109. But no one answered my question. Do you guys not see this as putting himself before the team?

  110. Saban was humilated as an NFL coach and every player on the Dolphins hated him and never trusted him….

I am actually shocked that you tried to “blow up my spot” with that defense of Saban….lol

Plus I clearly stated a leader of men….not 19 year old kids Brendan….but thanks for further proving my point

  111. Well, if we’re going by short-lived stints in the NFL as our sampling size, well then how did Bellicheat get a second job? He was horrendous at Cleveland. Judging by his record he must have been a terrible ‘leader of men’.

  112. All things aside we can not argue on the fact that cutler makes this team a whole lot better I know Mr T and Mr johnson is all over this one whether we like it or not they are going to take their chances especially if this is the move that helps them sale out the remainder of their PSL

  113. lgs…

He was not holding out. There are 100 guys holding out that are putting themsleves before the team…..He was pissed that a new coach came in and tried to get rid of him after telling him he was his guy 2 weeks earlier….

How can this guy trust this coach….A coach I might add that has proven nothing …..has zero track record and as I stated earlier does not have a great history of working out since all the other Belichick guys have failed at this level.

  114. I see it as a man doing what he wants. If he gets traded they aren’t his team. His #1 reciever goes out and acts a fool every offseason and the Broncos are trying to trade his other favorite target. TO walked into Garret’s office with the entire WR corp to try and get everyone involved. I like TO’s passion (Even if he should shut up sometimes). He wasn’t the reason the Eagles lost the Superbowl or the reason Dallas choked.

  115. The real reason I don’t want the Jets to make this trade, is because it’s going to kill my draft party. How many Jets fans are going to show up when we won’t have any first day picks!? F my life.

  116. Hoz, would TO make this team a whole lot better?

Brendan, you make a good point. Most coaches need to fail on their first time around. That’s not an indicator of being a weak coach. Man-Genie will be a great coach one day. We should’ve just known that this wasn’t the team for him to learn on.

  117. Brendan- I thought Beli wasn’t all that bad at Cleveland then he was an awesome D coordinator for the Pats and Jets before getting his second shot. I hate the guy, but he made his bones in this league. Saban has not.

  118. Yes or no guys.

Is Jay Cutler putting himself before his teammates right now?

  119. Ha Brendan thats the spirit. Have a Jay Cutler party and we better keep our second rounder.

  120. no qualifiers, just yes or no.

My answer is yes and last month it wasn’t so bad but he’s let it go too far.

  121. JAGG- Saban had one shot, if no one gave Belicheat a second chance I wouldn’t even be able to call him Belicheat. I guess I should’ve been clearer on my point, you can’t take a coach’s first stint as being indicative of him as a person or say that he is/isn’t a leader. We know how this league works, and the coaching carousel will give these guys second shots and that’s when we should make our judgements.

  122. brendan,

Belichick was fired in 1995 from Cleveland and then didnt get a HC job for 6 years. He then sucked his 1st year as NE coach…..he BS coaching act worked once he started to win Super Bowls.

The problem is these guys try and come in with zero track record and be Bill Belichick…..it just dosent work. Belichick tried to be Parcells in Celevland and fell on his face just as all of his “guys” have started to do now…..

  123. Honestly drew, I couldn’t care less about this. This is so off point and stupid to argue about. You win, I tap, you’re the best, i’m the worst, you’re very handsome, i’m ugly. game over.

  124. lgs…

No he is not putting himself before the team…..If he said I am not showing up to camp then yes….but he never said that

    Bendan,
I have been in your shoes before Brendan for the draft party….. I like JAGG idea…Throw a Culter party….you can watch last years Jet game as a highlight video of him taking the heart of every Jet fan

Remember on rounds 1 and 2 on day 1 this year

  125. Its a tainted victory but I’ll take it…..lol

  126. They’re scared to answer lgs….lol

  127. echoooooooooooo

    lol

  128. No he isn’t. He like you or I can do whatever he wants. He doesn’t want them to be his team, so what does he care? Guys hold out all the time. Is TJ putting himself b4 the team?

  129. I have answered lgs like 4 times already……..the answer is NO!! He is not putting himself before the team

  130. Considering that TJ got a lot of money on the front end of his contract and I feel gets paid a good salary for his talent relative to the talent of the rest o the team, especially his blockers… Yes TJ is acting like a total D-bag right now, lol.

And at the end of the day this is not about salary or anything like that. Jay Cutler’s ego is offended and he going having a temper tantrum that has lasted waaaaay too long for a professional player.

  131. YES

  132. Drew, you’re judgement is being clouded by Cutler’s potential.

So David Harris’ name has come up in trade talks. Should he have a big fit and force the Jets to trade him somewhere. Lowery, everybody’s talking about whetehr he should move to safety, should he have a fit and force himself to be traded? Where does it end.

  133. There was no coming back for Cutler or the Broncos. He needed to hear he was special. If Shannahan walked into Denver and tried to trade Elway something like this would have happened. Now Cutler isn’t Elway, but Mcdaniels isn’t Shannahan.

  134. He will be a Bear when all said and done, at least I hope so, I don’t want to face him and If I where a GM in Buffalo I would be making it happen.

  135. I think he has made it this long so he can get out of Denver.

By the way….Emmitt Smith held ou tof 2 reg season games one year…… That is putting yourself before the team

  136. QBs are special. Everyone knows that. They are the only player that can force a trade out of town. Ask Ocho Cinco

  137. Comparing Lowery and Harris to a Pro Bowl franchise QB is silly….

The QB and “genius” new Offensive minded HC need to be on the same page….Mcdaniels came in and got off to a horrible start with this and never tried to recover it…..

Mcdaniels is just as much to blame as Culter is…maybe more since his career is at zero right now

  138. Harris is a tackling pig, he got hurt last year, who would replace him, Bart needs help as it is sending grooming VG, sending our most potential LB is a HUGE mistake.

  139. Sorry typo’s
Harris is a tackling pig, he got hurt last year, who would replace him, Bart needs help as it is grooming VG and others to learn the system, sending our most potential LB is a HUGE mistake.

  140. Did those guys hold out because their egos were offended? Not that even a financial reason is okay to hold out but there are time that you can sympathize with a contract isue. But this is all about ego. This guy is a toddler in a grown man’s body.

  141. Drew, McDaniels did indeed try to ‘recover it’. I think that’s what all the face to face meetings and phone calls were about.

  142. I’m sorry. But this is ridiculous. If Cutler was team first guy, he would’ve made a little noise, then when his coaches tried to make nice he would’ve come to terms like a good soldier. We need someone that’s hard-nosed, that’s going to hold this offense together, someone with a Jeff Garcia kind of attitude. not some guy who’s going to stomp off and put his thumb in his mouth when things are not working out his way. You guys looking past this behavior at Cutler’s potential are delusional if you think he wouldn’t pull this kind of crap in the future.

  143. He didn’t say what he needed to say, so they had to break up awww

  144. If we are willing to go to battle with KC or Ratty than fans are insane if they dont want Culter……end of story!

  145. because???

  146. Like it or not Favre opened up the running lanes, becaus you had to respect his arm. I think KC and Ratliff have decent arms, but they have not earned any respect in this league and D coordinators will not respect them or those arms.

  147. Broncos should trade him to Detroit. That would serve him justice.

  148. Beacuse if we would have drafted him in 2006 and had the same 2 years that he has had in 2007 and 2008 you would love him

  149. If the Jets are going to have to give up a 1st 2nd and next yrs 3rd plus david harris!?! then that would be a terrible trade. Id rather give up my first and 2nd and maybe get Stafford. but even that might be too much since we wont be able to adress WR,DL,TE,OL…I think if you surround any QB with great talent they can strive…look at eli manning.

  150. Fans are blowing Ratliff for some throws he made in the 4th preseason game last year

Watch the tape of Culter and tell me why we should go get him…..becasue he acted like a baby for a few weeks….

I saw him dominate us in bad weather and begin the collapse of our season while we were coming off two huge wins….

  151. I meant to say …..tell me why we shouldnt go get him….sorry for the typo…

  152. Drew, like I said, we shouldn’t get him because he’s a diva, and we don’t need divas this team. A good team player would’ve sucked it up by now, but he’s still crying, I respect his potential to be a franchise QB, though he’s not that yet, but not my kind of player.

  153. no, because he’s still acting like a baby after more than a few weeks. not te mention that nobody in the NFL likes him.

  154. Igs im with you but i wouldnt be that upset if they got him. I think its all about the asking price. What if all it costed was a 1st rounder? even you have to admit its pretty tempting

  155. Igs- You aren’t in the NFL. You like I and the rest of us can’t possibly confirm that. Most QBs are Divas. Peyton got paid 100,00 grand to go to a sweet 16 party, Brady is a sweater model and sells overpriced water, Namath wore fur coats on the sidelines. We don’t see how these guys really are, because rarely does an organization make the foolish mistake of upsetting these fragile creatures. QBs are supposed to be leaders. When Mcdanielas tried to trade him he made it clear that he didn’t want Jay to lead them. If we don’t get him I wont be crushed, but unlike Favre the idea of getting Cutler excites me.

  156. it would be nice not to have to worry about/develop a qb for the next decade

  157. 13-1 (1 loss was in OT on a Favre hail mary) when Denver’s awful defense allows fewer than 21 points….Not bad for a crybaby prima dona huh??

  158. jagg, exactly my point, we don’t see who these guys are because they’re professionals. They handle their business behind closed doors and they lead their teams like leaders should, with poise, and with a united front.

  159. Yeah and their owner/coaches make sure they are well taken care of to keep them quiet.

  160. and so do the Bronc’s compensate Cutler well. He is, after all, a professional…

  161. Stabbing him in the back and saying he isn’t their leader isn’t what I consider keeping him comfortable Igs.

  162. Getting paid a large sum for an appearance or being a spokesperson for consumer products doesn’t make someone a diva.

There is a difference between holding out and holding your team hostage. Cutler acted like a 4 year old whose mother refused to buy him a power rangers toy. In my mind, there really isn’t an excuse for his actions. You are a grown man, if I heard from my job that I was going to be relocated, I wouldn’t cry and bitch and moan until they sent me to sunny San Diego instead of East Bumblef**k, Iowa. Cutler is an employee, and an employee doesn’t have say over the employer.

That being said, if the Jets can swing a deal where he doesn’t cost 3 first day picks or something outlandish, than I’m alright with trading for him.

  163. jagg, players get traded, I don’t like it either, and I think McDaniels screwed up, but after all this time, Cutler’s behavior s completely unprofessional and I just can’t get past that.

  164. hahahhahaha employees can still quit Brendan. Their world sure isn’t ours. They are still humans, but their employment rules are totally different.

p.s. Peyton through his O line under the bus in 05

  165. He didn’t return phone calls and texts after he made his agenda clear. If he was running around slandering Mcdaniels and Bowlen maybe I would agree. He wants to get traded. The press made this bigger than it is.

  166. I’m tired of debating this subject.

He is talented. He made the pro bowl (but even Favre did that, so take that with a grain of salt). He captained a team that had a worse collapse than the Jets had. He has a rocket arm. He has enough mobility to use effectively outside the pocket. He has diabetes which is a scary thing (I have it as well, so I know how it affects a person in an athletic sense). He thinks very, very highly of himself. He puts himself ahead of the team. He is going to cost a lot of high picks (because the Jets don’t have a QB to trade back to Denver). Aside from Favre, he turns the ball over more than anyone (and I don’t want to hear it’s because of his volume of throws, because he could have had 30 int’s last year with all the dropped passes by db’s).

Those are all facts. So depending on the cost, this could be very good or very, very detrimental to this team’s future.

  167. If he costs too much screw him

  168. JustAGreen guy, what Cutler is doing isnt the equivalent of quitting
