Video: Rhodes on Wheelhouse

by Angel Navedo on April 3rd, 2009 at 1:16 am

Kerry Rhodes was on the line during SNY’s Wheelhouse on Thursday to discuss Jay Cutler, the QBs of the AFC East, Darrelle Revis, Bart Scott, and more. Click the link for the full interview. Video embedding is not being my friend right now.

Brian Custer: Who is more responsible for the Jets collapse last season: Brett Favre or Eric Mangini?

Kerry Rhodes: (laughing) Eric Mangini

Sounds like he’s restraining himself when it comes to Cutler, but I won’t hold that against him. The speculation is over and the Jets don’t play the Bears this season, so it’s really all a moot point right now. Thankfully he chose not to elaborate on the details. It simply doesn’t matter anymore.

Hearing Rhodes talk about Revis made me even happier that fans aren’t General Managers. I love all of my fellow Jets’ fans, but the idea of packaging the best corner in the NFL for the second best QB in his (weak) conference really cut me deep.

even mentioning Revis for cutler shows the ignorance and impatience of some fans

Not that the bloggers are much better. lol

  3. avatar EOA says:

Tell me about it… I was LIVID when I read Revis might get traded for a guy I didn’t even want.

  4. avatar Hoz The Jet says:

    Ratliff 09…………………clemens suck

  5. avatar CRIMSON-SE7EN says:

Darelle Revis’s name should of never of been mentioned by fans in the Cutler talks. Now let the showdown between Ratliff and Clemens begin. I am pulling for Ratliff to win the job,but let Clemens make him earn it.

  6. avatar JDB says:

i don’t care who wins the job, i just want the best out of both of them

    Rhodes,

You have lost it man!! I know you wanted to say FARVE was more responsible for the clubhouse collaspe especially his pre-game warm up speech against Miami than Mangini. Mangini was responsible for not controlling FARVE but at least Mangini respected and earned the respect of his players as you could hear from his last press conference. They gave him a round of applause. Was FARVE there for that? I mean did the players ACTUALLY respect FARVE?!!!

    Angel,

I have a question about the article on the Gang Green Nation- Why Cutler to Chicago is Good News.

John B the journalist who the wrote the column said championship quarterbacks are without exception great leaders. He mentions that the jets gave back a 18 point lead and gave the game tying touchdown to the Patriots last November. Then FARVE lifted his team calmly to victory in overtime. Can you say that the Patriots had no answer for Dustin Keller in overtime as he picked up two crucial first downs, one that was actually thrown short of the first down markers and the other Dustin Keller ran his way past the slow New England defense on that play. I mean Dustin is only a rookie but can you give a leader like Thomas Jones some credit also for his tough earned runs in the fourth quarter. These players make a championship caliber team. They are leaders and show their leadership by example. I have a tough time seeing how FARVE last year led by example through weeks 13-17. He was invisible actually.

Rhodes is trully a classless act. He knows he is completely off base and doesn’t have the brass to be honest or diplomatic so he tries to pass it off as a Joke !! He was a useless benchwarmer and Mangini made him and he knows it. Even Herm edwards admitted it. Can’t wait for Scott to get on the field so he can show you what a real football player looks like and become your daddy, Wuzz.

  10. avatar ridinmywave says:

    Useless benchwarmer?…..

Some of you make some real ignorant statements out of emotion.

  11. avatar I New York I says:

    hank/naples,

Are you insane? are you really trash talking one of our most signifigant defensive players? Talk about a classless act. Throwing your own team under the bus. Take some advivce from Sexy Rexy Ryan and show some damn loyalty. Because if not then you’re not better then those bandwagon yankee fans who boo their own team at home, and if you’ve been to a jets game.. you know better.

    J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS JETS
    2009 baby!

Hank I just watched the clip, what was classless about anything Rhodes said? He backed up his team’s QBs, called his CB unstoppable, talked up Bart Scott, and said his personal issues from last season wasn’t the reason he didn’t want Cutler.

Then during a rapid 5 question spurt where it was clearly not that serious he said Mangini was more to blame. And guess what? HE WAS. His rigid system, lack of ingenuity and his inability to adjust is what killed that team. Players were playing hurt for him, which is great, but he is the one who stopped rushing the QB and played an umbrella defense for the second half of the year. I agree with Rhodes 100% on this.

  13. avatar ridinmywave says:

And the sad thing is I’ve seen some of the most spineless comments bashing kerry for no reason, ecspecially with the fact of him disliking cutler, and some willing to throw our own under the bus just to bring in a lil prick like cutler. Little do you know that the reason that kerry doesn’t like cutler is not personal but stemmed from him sticking up for his teammates whom cutler was insulting.

This guy has shown all the traits of a team leader, has not been disrespectful in anyway, and has stated the truth while still being respectful(when asked a question, he never makes random comments), regardless of the situation.

He is probably the most enjoyed and respected person in that lockeroom from what I have seen and read and he has produced on the field tremendously and exceeded all expectations to become one of the best safties in the game. Its a shame that some of you can’t even learn to appreciate that.

  14. avatar Joe B. says:

I didn’t see anyone seriously suggesting including Revis in a trade. If anyone did, they’re a moron. The vast majority of commenters (myself included) said Revis should be untouchable.

  15. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

Whether he likes it or not Mangini did make Kerry Rhodes who he is now. Kerry said he wasn’t as big a fan of him last year and that is probably because Mangini cost him the probowl. Had Rhodes played the role that they moved to Elam he might have been in Hawaii.

Favre sucked. I would rather we ran Brad Smith every play than have had to watch taht fossil down the stretch. Even in the big games we won he wasn’t all that good. KC or Ratliff should have been on the field last year.

  16. avatar Pete says:

I would have NOT Been happy to Lose Revis for anything !!!

We can find a QB to manage a game but we can’t find a guy with the talent of Revis. He is going to get even better in the next few years.

  17. avatar GT73 says:

Whether by accident or design, the Jets came out the better for not making a deak for Cutler. Rhodes is 100 percent correct on every point he makes — especially concerning Revis (you would have to be batty to make any deal involving him).

    JaGG:

What these posters don’t realize was that Rhodes biggest claim to fame was beating out a guy named Celestin for his starting job before Mangini took over. Even Herman Edwards admits the Job Mangini did with Rhodes. Okay, okay I admit i was over the top by alling him a benchwarmer, but i’m absolutely right that he is classless. As a professionall anything, you are expected to act as a professional. He knew this was a loaded no win question and he should have been atleast more diplomatic, not phony. He could have goten out of that question without “tanking” anyone but he knows this FO still has ties with Farve and that Mangini was fired so played suck-up. That is CLASSLESS. To me Rhode’s play has gotten smaller and his mouth bigger. His “Hollywood” nickname has gone to his head and he uses his mouth to feed it. As far as what Mangi is or isn’t and regardless of what the media or all Mangini bashers say The Jury Is Still Out on Mangini and It’s In on Farve.

  19. avatar hank/naples says:

    JAGG:

And do you know my biggest peeve against Farve was? That I knew regardless how many INT’s or how badly he played, he would’ve had to been taken out on a stretcher before Clemens was given a chance to play. And if Clemens did not work out, Iwe would now know somethig about Ratciff. I knew it was going to kill at least one or two of the few good years our $miliion OL line had left. Now we have to start all over. Thank God he decided to retire( maybe)after only one year.

  20. avatar RKNYC says:

    I agree Hank.

I never mentioned it in my posts but we lost a year of good OL play by throwing a Hail Mary for a SB instead of moving the chains one more year.

  21. avatar hank/naples says:

    RKNYC:

Very well put, short and to the point.
