Old News: Jets Talked With a Safety At His UConn Pro Day Whoo Hoo
The Jets have apparently had a discussion with UConn safety Dahna Deleston during his Pro Day a few weeks ago, according to Scout.com
What might have caught the eye of teams looking for a late-round safety was his excellent pro day workout.
He turned in two great 40-yard dash times of 4.43/4.44, posted a solid short shuttle time of 4.28, had a strong vertical jump of 37.5″, and benched a solid 20 reps at 225 at 225 lbs.
Deleston also interviewed with the Carolina Panthers, Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Jaguars during his pro day.
Sounds like it was just an innocent sidebar to learn more about him. For the Jets, Deleston would be a depth / special teams for the Jets at a rookie. CB Darius Butler, RB Donald Brown … there’s a number of players in UConn’s class this year But UConn has a number of players who might make an impact in the NFL. If players are legit, this is a great time to grab players from a program like UConn, because it’s prospects are still discounted somewhat in comparison to other traditional powerhouse programs.

Just looked at the WalterFootball.com mock draft and man is that a nightmare for us. Patriots get Jarron Gilbert, we get Wells, and this Penn WR
patriats are going to end up with a top 10 pick.
^^ they have too many draft picks and not enough roster spots.
Jets season ticket holder and UConn grad- Would love to see one of the UConn guys get taken by the team- These guys have an underdog/chip on the shoulder mentality after 1. playing in the Big East and 2. playing football at a basketball school. Not sure how good any of them will turn out, but I can promise you they will all play like they have something to prove, as quite frankly, they do.
I have tickets for both Uconn and the Jets, I believe Donald Brown will be a great back great combo of size and speed, he broke so many long runs this year for Uconn on finesse moves and physical strength. Also, Darius Butler is probably the most athletic corner in the draft, he even played WR to help them out due to his ability, not saying he will play WR for us but it shows how athletic the kid is. I wish we could pick up both Brown and Butler, they could really help this team out.
Ronnie what are u talking about? The partiots love these value picks in the second and third round, that is the way to go and i would love for us to some how trade totally out of the first round, adding a 2nd and 3rd pick so we can get Gilbert, Brown or Jennings, Barden, and Anthony Hill!
File this under HOMAGE to KENNY O’…..Matt Cassel won’t be wearing No. 16 in Kansas City – that’s retired for Len Dawson – and instead will don No. 7. Cassel chose the number, in part, to pay homage to Ken O’Brien, who coached him early in his career at Southern Cal and who wore that number with the Jets from 1983-92.
Deleston is an intriguing guy. He has 4.4 speed running forward toward the LOS but more of a 4.7-4.8 guy in coverage. He’s very aggressive, has a nose for the ball and at the very least will indeed be a special teams demon.
He’d be a good developmental guy for the jets but I actually believe he’d be even better playing the Will in a cover 2 scheme.
