The Jets are bringing in a number of players yesterday and today, according to the official site’s Eric Allen. Yesterday saw the arrival of two potential first rounders in Illinois CB Vontae Davis and UConn CB Darius Butler (5’10″, 183), the team also hosted Boston College LB Brian Toal, Iowa CB Bradley Fletcher and Notre Dame S David Bruton.
Vontae Davis (CB Illinois) 6-0 200 — Little brother of Niners TE Vernon Davis, Vontae’s combination of size, speed, and instincts could make him the top CB to come off the board ranging somewhere between 10-20. Davis does drops some passes that he could have intercepted more easily, so there is still progress for him to make at the pro level.
Darius Butler (CB UConn) 5-10 183 — Much smaller stature than Davis, Butler has been argued that he could be the best “pure” corner in terms of skillset of the players in this draft. He’s ready to play, but could struggle with larger, more physical NFL receivers. Due to size, Butler might be a late first or early second rounder.
Brian Toal (LB Boston College) 6-1 228 — Toal might not have the size to play his linebacker position in the pros, and could be re-made as a FB or Safety. Toal’s love of tackling and blowing up holes make sense for him to transition to strong safety in the NFL. Has the speed to play with Tight Ends in the pro game, but would be in trouble when taking on NFL receivers and running backs as he needs to develop his game in space.
Bradley Fletcher (DB Iowa) 6-1 196 — Fletcher could be a late draft pick due to his play at the East-West Shrine practices and game. Fletcher has the size to play DB in the pros, but needs to refine his game.
David Bruton (FS Notre Dame) 6-2 1/4, 219 — Team captain, has the size & speed to help a team immediately on special teams with upside to mature into a starter. Bruton ran a 4.40 at the Combine and had an eye-popping 41½ inch vertical jump. Noted for his size, Bruton still has the quicks to range in coverage but needs to work on playing more physical. Bruton is likely a mid-round draft pick with some potential to be a reach by a team who targets him.

Where’s Jarron Gilbert? If we want some DL depth he’s the perfect guy, only we might have to trade up in the second round to snag him…
-
are we still considering taking a CB first round?? whats up with vontae davis, we traded for sheppard, signed strickland, and we still have lowery whos got potential and one of the best in revis, where would davis fit into all of this?
-
Definitely digging Bruton in green. Ryan would have a fun time molding that guy.
-
I hope we draft the best punter available. With the lack of attention leadership is showing the offensive side of the ball, we are going to need a good one.
-
After all the trades and FAs, it looks like management still thinks we need work in the secondary.
-
do we really need another CB? we have revis, sheppered, lowery, ty law. Ok maybe sign a another vet or draft one in rounds 3+.
-
shepperd is a one year stop gap…if they feel like Vontae Davis is the best player available when they are drafting, they should draft him regardless of the fact that CB isnt out biggest need. Its not like we are a peice or 2 from conending for the division anyway so we might aswell get the best player available.

Hey everybody I am looking for some information. I will be in NYC the weekend of the draft and I want to go and support our Gang Green but I have no idea on if there is tickets I need to get or where to get them. I have heard there was no entry fee but once you leave your out for good and I also heard there is a fee so I just want to find out a more definite answer and figured this was the best place to look. So if someboday has gone in the past and has any information that could help me out I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks guys.

I saw Brian Toal play in high school at Don Bosco Prep, he’s got speed

I am beginning to think that the JETS may trade down from #17 to later in 1st round or early in second. With the extra picks, they may pick a CB, but only after they address RB and WR.

I’d say that the jets are definitely looking at offense, but they might be playing it cool. they have checked out all the top six WRs …
-
In my perspective these are not the guys I want to receive extra attention. Focus on Maclin, Tyson Jackson and Sanchez. If none of those guys are there trade down. DHB is too raw and I don’t trust him based on what Gholston did this year. Remember when Gholston was also considered raw coming out? Trade back to around 20-24 and hopefully assure yourself Nicks or Chris Wells or Moreno (One will be there, not the other)

Z we no longer have law but we do have donald strickland.
I think this is just more about doing the right thing and looking into every top prospect. That way if our number gets called and we are in the position to do so, we pick the BPA.
-
This is all about smoke and mirrors. Jets have to make it seem they’re looking at everyone, so teams that really want a guy like Davis (if he drops) will be tempted to trade up with the Jets in order to get him. They have to make it seem as though they’re going with the best-player-available route so teams will be scared into trading with them.

It’s just typical pre-draft routine. Getting their draft board ready. I don’t like Davis, the unknown mights stay unknowns. Darius Butler may be the only beneficial prospect but I don’t think we would take in the first or second (implies no chance). There are other priorities…just routine.

I will guarantee you that we will not take a CB or LB with the first pick. None are worthy of #17, and we’ve devoted too much in those positions already. We’re gonna go O with that first pick.

I agree there is now way we pick a CB or LB at 17. However, I think there is a shot that we could go with the DL on that first pick. If Tyson Jackson is available there is a really good chance we will pick him up. You can’t deny that, given his ability and size and our defense. I would think that Peria Jerry would also be a possibility. If neither of these players are there, then your right, its a no brainer, we are going offense. Most likely wide receiver, possibility of quaterback, or maybe a running back (although I would prefer not to take a running bac in the first).
-
Alex,
I agree, if not O then DL would be a position of need, and then Tyson Jsckson would be a solid pick up. I’m really hoping we take Josh Freeman with #17. I think he can be another John Elway.
-
Peria Jerry? Are you serious? The guy is a three technique DT. Many tampa 2 teams will be jumping al over him since the talent for this type of DT falls of rapidly. Tyson Jackson? He’ll be this years Kentwan Balmer, when Kendall Langford was obviously the better 3-4 DE…Parcells knew that….saved a lot of money. Ziggy Hood will make a better 3-4 end. He’s much more versatlie than Jackson….already experienced playing inside….can be used in multiple fronts.

Thanks Bent!!

I went to High School with Toal. He’s a cool guy. He actually was a pretty dominant RB in the High School days. They used to pick and choose which plays he scored on, how many yards this play is going for, etc. So he has potential to be a Hybrid type guy. Goal line back, FB, LB, SS. Coach’s son too, and from what I can tell, loves the game. I’m assuming they invited him because he was a North Jersey name because he did have quite a few injuries that cost him.
