dknyj- Lining up next to Jenkins will give him good odds to be productive off the bench but let's not forget Ngata is no scrub either. Should be interesting as his measurements seem more fitted to the 4-3 DT position. Versatility will be key with this defense's success.

Ok so this guy has some potential for his age.

On paper Coach Ryan looks like he assembled a solid team. Let’s just hope it looks as good if not better in action.

That's pretty much my point Mole...I wasn't suggesting Pace and Rhodes themselves would beat him out, but that I wouldn't expect them to be among the league leaders, so there must be SOMEONE in the league that averaged at least 10 a year over the last 6 years. I guess not under the Stats Inc. criteria.

And yes, 6 years is a bit arbitrary. Suggests maybe he had a monster year back then (or loads of the top guys have 5 or less years in the league). It's almost as arbitrary as using 21 points for the Cutler 13-1 stat. Why not 17...or 24?

I did total up his numbers last year and from memory I think he had three tackles for loss in 2008, so I didn't even bother to mention him in my article.

I don't want to discredit him though...I do think he'll help us.

That's a good point Mole, but you would think lining up next to Jenkins, he would have the best odds in his entire career to get into the backfield.

Bent,
Rhodes and Pace haven't played for six years. Scott's been productive lately, but only for the last four years, not for six years. If Stats were to run the figures over the last three years instead of the last six, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be on the top-ten list.

(Why would they even use six years as their point of reference in the first place? Who cares what someone did five or six years ago?)

Yeah, he's a productive guy. However, I'm not sure how Stats Inc. arrive at their figures for tackles for losses.

When I wrote my article about "Hidden Stats" a few weeks ago, the stats for tackles for losses (taken from NFL.com) were something like 13 for Bart Scott, 12 for Calvin Pace, 9 for Kerry Rhodes...makes me question how 41.5 could be third best in the NFL over the last six years.

Either way, I think this is a better pickup than people have given it credit for...unlike Howard Green, who I expect will have to battle just to make the team, Douglas should represent a clear upgrade over the likes of Devito and Mosley to improve the depth on the defensive line.
