Zach Thomas Was Almost A Jet?
According to Tim Graham of ESPN, the Jets were in the contention to land former Dolphin and Cowboy Zach Thomas.
Zach Thomas was in talks to join the Jets before he finally settled on the Kansas City Chiefs for a one-year contract, agent Drew Rosenhaus told Fox affiliate WSVN in Miami.
“We had been talking to the Jets as well, and we had the option of waiting even until after the draft or before training camp,” Rosenhaus said. “But the truth of the matter is Zach was excited about the chance.”
Some might be concerned, but I don’t see this as a vote of no confidence in David Harris, but rather a move to increase depth on the team. David Bowens is gone, the team signed Larry Izzo who won’t be a factor much defensively, and Thomas is a sage veteran who understands the 3-4, but he’s now 35 years old, and is fighting to stay in the league. Thomas would have been a fantastic depth addition for the team, and I bear no ill will against him like I do about his brother in law.
David Harris has played just two years and has already had some extended injury issues, although he’s a great player and I look forward to seeing more and more of him, the team needs to have some veteran depth at the spot to increase the defense’s chances this season. Marques Murrell and Kenwin Cummings are nice upside players, but they haven’t proven much yet.

Something tells me Harris will be traded so the Jets can move up and get Crabtree…
im glad we didn’t get that washed up loser…by the way is derrick brooks still available?
I know this is off subject, but I’ve heard that the Browns might be planning on moving out Anderson and Quinn. Combine that rumor with the report that Mangini invited Favre to visit the Browns camp and you have the reason to think that Mangini could (I know it’s unlikely) convince Favre to come out of retirement. If that absurdity comes to fruition, the Jets could trade Favre to the Browns for Edwards and either Quinn or Anderson. I know it’s not going to happen, but I can dream.
Dude, thats as likely as Namath coming back.
derrick brooks can back up both ILB positions get it done tanny.
I with HOZ Derrick brooks, great lockerrom guy, still has it can back up or start
It tells me the same thing i have been saying for a while now…… I love D harris have since his junior year at Michigan but he has had leg injuries for a few years now. I know they are freak injuries but he had some in college and now 2 last year.
We have zero depth inside and Harris has not proven he can make it threw a 16 game schedule yet.
If he goes down again we are in big trouble. we nned a guy to step in. I would have hated Z Thomas here. He is a horrible 3-4 LB. D Brooks is the same and going into his 16 season. He is undersized and old. Not good fits for our ILB postion
Consider the source. Drew Rosenhaus! Are you kidding me. He was probably “talking” to the Jets only in the sense that HE picked up the phone and called us. It’s the agents job to try to create the maximum value for their client. This leads to a lot of silly, made-up stories about teams being “interested” in this guy or that guy. Drew Rosenhaus is probably the worst offender in that department.
good point jvsvn
Murrell should play OLB.
WHAT!!?? WHY!!??
