Link: Woodhead Impressing Rex
Last year’s training camp underdog Danny Woodhead is healthy again and seems to be making a positive impression on new coach Rex Ryan.
“Clearly he can run with the football and things,” Rex Ryan said before comparing him to another of his boyish-looking players. “First thing I noticed was, ‘Hey, there’s another Jim Leonhard out there.’ We got the two guys that look like your next-door neighbor and stuff like that.”
Regardless of how he looks, TJ’s contract dispute is opening the door for Woodhead to make a name for himself in Ryan’s ball-control, run-based offense. The kid is going to need all the reps he can get in order to make the roster come August. I know there’s quite a fan club for him out there.

no way in the world miami deals within the division.
I think we need to draft our future RB in Round 3 or 4.
TJ aint getting any younger and we dont want to risk handing the ball off to Leon to often.

GO DANNY!

I agree that the Jets wont be involved. I don’t understand why the Dolphins would deal him though, as he practically IS their wildcat offense.

As posted earlier, if McShay’s latest comes to pass, then most of the really good values filling positions of need (Crabtree at WR, Tyson Jackson at 3-4 DE, Malcolm Jenkins at Safety, all the highly rated OT) and even those at franchise building (Sanchez at Qb) are gone.
I could easily see Knowshon Moreno being the value pick if we cannot trade down to pick up a Britt and pick.

I hope TJ comes to his senses soon. But i am glad to see that everyone is getting opportunities to shine

HEY GUYS, THIS THREAD IS ABOUT DANNY WOODHEAD. HELLO IS ANYBODY OUTHERE?
-
Corey,
You are hyping things up like a real professional member of the media. Too bad, Woodhead has a whole pre-season to deal with.
I am rooting for Woodhead. I would like to see Rex give him a fair shot at running the ball. That is what he did to get here.
-
Absolutely, Danny deserves a full shot if only on his past accompliments. Allow him to prove himself at the NFL level. I know he will. Go Danny “Wayne” Woodhead.
-
I’m rooting for Danny Woodhead but in the end I’m guessing he won’t make the roster, because let’s face it, the Jets have a pretty nice RB situation as it is, and there’s a decent chance we’ll draft yet another RB.
-
Go Danny!
I hope this kid makes the roster, he has the potential to be the next Wayne Chrebet story!!
-
i dont want another wayne chrebet story, i want the jets to win

This sounds exactly the same as last year. During last seasons mini camps Woodhead impressed coaches too. The fact remains he probably won’t make the roster, and I wont waste my time getting excited about him. Funny how Rex Ryan would compare Woodhead to Leonhard, two white players playing positions predominately dominated by black athletes. We should be worrying about Thomas Jones’ contract situation. Draft Moreno or Wells at 17 if either are there.
Why would Miami trade Brown who is their best player?
-
I said i before..but his best shot is on special teams returnng punts or kicks and then maybe he’ll get a few snaps along the way. Go Danny!
-
Remember the mini camps and OTAs are guys running in shorts. It doesn’t mean a thing except that there really must be nothing to talk about right now except the draft.
-
Rex sounds more like a coach suited to teach college football players than the New York Jets.

Revis,
Its simple. Ronnie Brown is their best player however Sparano is building “his” team. There is no best player. Given Ronnie may be in a contract dispute or he is not content with his status on the team. Whatever it is Sparano is building “his” team. This is what Mangini tried to do with the jets in 2006 and 2007. In 2008 he had too many problems around him and they covered him up. Sparano is building the Miami team with Pennington as the model. This is something we should copy from instead of getting the best talent out there. I am surprised you said that coming from a guy who idolizes a player who is works his butt off and puts everything he has into a gameplan each and every sunday. I know you watch every game of 2007 and 2008 but what did you really catch of Revis?
-
E-Bola,
I agree with your draft plan 100%. I think we need to address the trenches first.
-
fonzie,
I am a little confused about your post, and I didnt really understand your reference to Revis. I personally think trading Ronnie Brown would bea pretty dumb move but Im not Toy Sparano.
But please explain,
” I know you watch every game of 2007 and 2008 but what did you really catch of Revis?”

Apparently the Dolphins are discussing trades for Ronnie Brown,
