kenny britt is the guy i would trade down to the 20’s to get even though he don’t have the most upside out of the bunch but he is the most NFL ready right now the way he run routes and get seperation from opposing defensives backs he can be a fit right next to cotchery.
When you start defending that youre not a diva….youre usually a diva!!
In saying that……if the guy can run, catch and play like I think he can i dont care if he is a diva or not. I dont like him at 17 but a trade back would work nicely here
AKA DREW
WE ALWAYS ON THE SAME PAGE WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO THE JETS BUT BEING A DIVA ISN’T A BAD THING IF YOU CAN BACK IT UP AND KEEP YOUR MOUTH CLOSED HE WOULD BE ON MY RADAR IF WE CAN SNAG HIM IN THE 20′S AND PICKING UP A EXTRA 2ND OR 3RD RD PICK I WOULD BE DELIGHTED
as we all know some commentators are pegging the jets to pick darius heyward bey at no. 17. there has been a lot of discussion at this site about dhb’s lack of production at the collegiate level and what that means in terms of projecting him to the nfl. i did a little research and folks, it does not bode well.
dhb’s stats for each of his three years at maryland:
45, 694, 5td
51, 786, 3td
42, 609, 5td
looking at the top 20 receivers in the nfl in 2008 (based on a composite of receptions, yds and tds) all but 3 of them had at least one season in college in which they utterly dominated.
seasons of 75+ rec, 1000+yds, 10+ tds are the norm for those guys. the three “exceptions” are hines ward, anquan boldin and dwayne bowe. however, as you will see in a second even their best seasons blow dhb’s out of the water. further boldin and ward are converted qbs that showed marked improvement in their final collegiate seasons as they learned their crafts. bowe also showed tremendous improvement in his final collegiate season. dhb on the other hand, put together three fairly repetitive seasons, his sophomore perhaps being his best, and none of which were elite. also the notion that dhb is a homerun hitting wide out is not supported by the stats. indeed of his 13 career tds, several were rushing, not receiving.
Boldin: played only 23 games in college at wr, final collegiate season: 65, 1011, 13td.
Ward: never played a full season as a traditional wide out. was used often as a scatback, played some qb and played flanker. his senior year he played 10 games at wr (avg college season is 12 games), stats projected out to 12 games for senior year: 66. 850, 7td.
dwayne bowe: final collegiate season saw over a 50% increase in balls caught over average of previous two seasons: 65, 990, 12td.
the fact that dhb never produced at the level of a prime time producer at the college level does not bode well for him becoming a prime time receiver in the nfl. keep in mind that boldin, ward and bowe’s college stats are the WORST from the 20 wrs i surveyed.
finally, look at the stats for the other wrs being considered as first round picks for this year (i recognize that some differences can be attributed to system, i.e. missouri and texas tech, but the differences are startling. 2008 stats:
crabtree: 97, 1165, 19td
maclin: 102, 1260, 13
harvin receiving: 40, 644, 7; rushing: 70, 659, 10
britt: 87, 1371, 7
nicks: 68, 1222, 12
given his lack of production at the college level (and no statistical evidence of significant improvement on the horizon) i don’t think one can justify taking dhb in the first round.
Frank Sinatra-New York New York…
Hoz….
I totally agree. I was not saying that I dont like that he might be a diva I was just saying that he was one….lol
Picking up an extra 3rd woul dbe huge…
We need a WR, RB and OL depth in this draft. Late pick of Bear Pascoe type and I will be very happy!
Beastie Boys – No sleep til Brooklyn….NICE!!
They Might Be Giants – New York City.
T.j is looking out for him, but he knows we can’t pay him then make moves.I say pay leon and reach for jennings or Greene in 2nd or wait till 3rd. This is a game!!! If your not having fun????
LIAM -
So you are saying if they dominate in college they will dominate in the NFL?
Jane is absolutely correct about the TJ situation. Kendall, Baker and now Jones. The consistency lies in being stubborn, arrogant and myopic. What “spell” did LC possess that he always wound up getting his way. What “bupgiss” amount are the Jets being cheap about this time? If Tannenbaum needs a “stimulus” maybe he can look down the road and see that it is his behind who will be the next to be booted out of town. A cap wiz does not make a general manager.
Tanny has his faults but he gets a passing grade.
I have generally been impressed by Jane since she started covering the Jets but this is one of the worst articles I have ever read. Not because I disagree with her but because she is getting facts wrong and seemingly making things up.
She lists Ghoulston as a DE, says that Baker felt alienated during the season even though he was being used enough and over-inflates Jones productivity.
She must be desperate for a story.
Jane is an idiot. I will just say Tish is wrong (he does not get paid to be wrong so there is no reason to be dismissive).
TJ’s AFC leading yardage was minimal compared to the NFC leaders (Peterson had more than 400 yards more (meaning TJ had almost a third less) in 2008. Even in 2007, TJ’s production would still have been no better than fourth in the league and 200 yards off the pace.
Yet he has already been paid 13.1 million for two years. He got his bucks. He is gone next year. No way at his age do we pay him that much salary. Why throw more money at a guy who has one more year with our team?
Finally, I am so tired of hearing about Pete Kendall and Baker. Folks forgot that Kendall’s missed block against the Jints in 2007 on 4th down kept the Jints alive for a playoff berth; without Kendall’s ineptitude, the Jints don’t have a chance to win the SB. He stunk last year too. And, Baker is not getting his money from the Pats. Tanny would have been happy to offer him the contract he accepted from the Pats. Baker wanted his $9 mil this year from the Jets and he was and is not worth that.
If TJ wants to retire. Let him. Let him find out how much money he can make in a supermarket. He ain’t playing anywhere else this coming season because no team will give us a high enough pick to justify letting him walk.
Jane and Tish forgot he and his agent signed the contract he is now miffed with. Boo hoo. He was overpaid for two years. He offered none of that money back. This year, is our bargain.
