  1. Funny that he’s not projected to go in the first round – too slow? Personality? He seems pretty versatile too – lining up outside at times.

  2. A little overrated. He is a smaller guy who should be quicker for his size. He will be a good pro but a star??

I have watched this guy for years as I follow the Wolverines and the Big Ten. The other LB ( M Freeman ) will probably be better pro than he is. Dosent have the instincs to Laurinaitis but is a better overall athlete and player getting to the ball.

  3. I have a feeling he will be a patriot with 1 of those 2nd rd picks but he is bust material

  4. Why does Anthony Schlegel come to mind? hmm

  5. Why do you think he’s bust material Hoz? I think he’s a little under sized, but that’s not unusual for college level LB’s. He shows good tackling technique, which is more than I could say for some of the USC LB’s that were highlighted on film room segments. A star? I wouldn’t say that, but solid contributor/starter, yes. Interested in your opinion.

  6. Anthony Schlegel was a kid who transferred to OSU from the AF Academy (i.e. not that highly regarded in HS) and was never a 3x All American.

I haven’t watched that much tape of Laurinaitis but a couple of “undersized” players come to mind that have had pretty awesome careers at LB. Tedy Bruschi was a DL at Arizona and we know how that turned out. Brian Urlacher (sp?) was a safety in college and he’s turned out pretty good too… I don’t know if this guy plays for the Jets but I’m willing to bet he’s successful whereever he ends up barring serious injury

  7. This is supposed to be a highlight film. I saw Laurenitis waiting for the runner to come to him, over and over. Did he have a hit behind the line? He was never touched, prior to the tackle. i would look to draft the defensive linemen in front of him. Keeping the blockers off of the linebackers is key. I would not take this guy in the first round, based on this highlight film.

  8. Being from Ohio and watching OSU almost every sunday. James Laurinaitis didn’t impress me much this season at all. I think he will a second round pick, but maybe he will prove me wrong.

  9. Laurinaitis was an oustanding college player and would have been a top-10 pick if he came out early last year.

I don’t know what happened other than his 40-time at the Combine was bad … which I guess would have happened last year as well, so maybe I’m wrong about him being a top-10 pick.

I do know with 100% certainty, however, that before the “declare deadline” and obviously the Combine which he didn’t do last year, he was widely considered a top-10, if not top-6 pick. The JETS were rumored to be taking him #6 last year if he came out.

  10. I mean last year Dan Conner, a player like Laurinaitis was a first round prospect then fell to the third round. So who knows what could happen, if he’s available in the third then sure draft him.

  11. He’s a player I’ve always liked, and I think he’s going to go to a team that traditionally scoops up talent at the end of the first round like Indy or the Giants and end up performing very well. He’s actually my favorite of the linebackers once you get past Curry.

  12. Im not too high on LB’s from Ohio State. This guy doesnt impress me too much, and Id rather have any of the USC LB’s.

  13. JesusRevis, that statement about Ohio State LB’s is one of those dreaded “truisms” (i.e., because Gholston and Carpenter and Katzenmoyer were disasters, we should be leery of taking OSU linebackers).

Schlegel was a 3rd-round pick, wasn’t he? You don’t like wasting those but the “bust” label doesn’t factor in as much as a 1st-round flop.

    AJ Hawk

    Chris Spielman

    Pepper Johnson

    Na’il Diggs

    Matt Wilhelm

Some decent players, but in any event, I try not to get tangled up in truisms.

  14. None of those LB’s are any better than solid in my opinion. AJ Hawk clearly has not warranted being such a high draft pick and I dont think he is any better than solid either.

  15. He is from OSU in the little 10, no need to look at him.

  16. Do you think who ever picks him we will hear someone say….. “Oh What a Rush”!!

Gosh Halk and Animal were awesome!!!!
