What good is arm strength if his motions are read clearly as he stares down a receiver, and makes a wrong read and rifles the ball right into the safety's hands?

Maybe. His completion percentage is better than the past few K-State quarterbacks have managed, which speaks well of him, as does the fact that with better supporting players he ended up with solid completion numbers against teams like Kansas, Oklahoma State, Iowa State and Fresno State during his sophomore year. So that's something. On the other hand, as long as we're comparing him to Cutler, he doesn't have anything approaching Cutler's 28 of 42 for 361 with 4 TDs against Florida, or his 27 of 39 for 315 and 3 TDs against Tennessee. Freeman was non-competitive against just about every good defense he faced, and I'm not sure K-State has a bigger talent deficit going against the Big 12 than Vandy does going against the SEC.

But I agree that Freeman is more difficult to project because of his surrounding cast.

seanmac, because of his size, mobility and arm strength, it's hard for me to believe that Freeman wouldn't potentially go in the first round unless the QB draft class was inordinately solid. I agree that Freeman is a project (and he's a junior, too), but his K-State team was poor and it's not unusual for good QBs on bad teams to suffer against superior opponents. As a senior, Jay Cutler, with SEC doormat Vandy, uncorked an 11 for 32 for 113 yars, 2 INT and 5 sack stink bomb against LSU and he also had a pretty poor game and loss against Middle Tenn. St., a clearly inferior opponent. While I'm rosier on Freeman than you are, the fact that K-State was bad makes getting a true read on Freeman difficult. Freeman more or less dominated inferior opponents and poor defenses (he completed 80.8% of his passes against Texas Tech) and struggled against teams that were superior. IMO, he's a prospect like Flacco, but with more upside because he can really throw on the run well and with depth. He has a pretty thin frame for such a big guy, too. With NFL training, he just has a real high ceiling. Sure, he may not possess the ability to be an accurate NFL QB, but I don't think that conclusion can be drawn from his time at K-State.

I posted a proposed series of trades a bit earlier which would have turned our 3 top-100 picks into six. Here's some of the guys that are likely to be there when we pick:
31-Robiskie, Nicks
52-Andre Brown/Rashad Jennings/Shonn Greene
63-Duke Robinson/Andy Levitre
76-Fili Moala
90-Rhett Bomar
95-R.Quinn TE NC (Blocker)
Then with remaining picks
115-Mike Thomas
193-Frantz Joseph, LB FAU
228 Louis Sakota,K, UT

Definately not worth a top 20 pick and is a long term project, the only thing he has going for him is a good arm.......oh yeah, and that he's big?

Please, this whole "cannon arm" thing gets really blown out of proportion with some of you guys, the basically sucks or is mediocre at best when it comes to the rest of the tools to be a good quarterback...j.p losman, jared lorenzen(he's even bigger in size than freeman), jamarcus russel, kyle boller, rex grossman, oh yeah remember troy smith, lol.
My point is that arm strength is over hyped and is actually the least important of components in my opinion to be a good qb. Yes, a strong arm qb can stretch the field and keep defenses honest but there's a lot more that goes into it.

You want a strong arm qb, go supprt ratliff if that makes you feel better. He has a strong arm as well and is more athletic and agile than freeman.....and he's got good size on him too, lol.

Freeman is lucky this is a weak quarterback back class(basically the reason he and sanchez came out), or else he'd easily be a 3rd or 4th round pick.

" Imagine if it was Freeman instead of Braford throwing for tons of TD’s and holding up that Heisman and playing in the National Championship."

That is a vivid imagination.

I'm starting to like Freeman more. He's a big guy, cannon arm, played in a pro-style offense, and throws well on the run. I read an article about Freeman in Sporting News and ex-Kansas State head coach, Ron Prince, said "Kansas State did a poor job of surrounding Freeman with players." Freeman was being recruited by Oklahoma. Imagine if it was Freeman instead of Braford throwing for tons of TD's and holding up that Heisman and playing in the National Championship. I like what I have seen from Freeman and would not be mad if the Jets pick him at 17.
