Link: Draft Nuggets

Some nuggets from Peter King’s MMQB:

For all the mocks that have Sanchez dropping as far as 17, don’t believe the unhype

Sanchez feels like the pivot point. After Stafford goes one to Detroit and a tackle (Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe) two to the Rams, it’s anyone’s guess, starting with Kansas City. Seattle likes Sanchez and Michael Crabtree (and a tackle, maybe) at four. I’ve heard Cleveland (picking fifth) and Washington have already discussed a deal if Sanchez is still on the board at five. I don’t expect Sanchez to be there at five.

A look at some of the potential first round WRs, that might be slipping  back into the second:

Kenny Britt is flaky. Darrius Heyward-Bey’s hands and route-running are suspect. Hakeem Nicks was overweight and not in great shape when the Ravens worked him out Friday. In other words, the receivers are a suspect group, and a few of them we thought would be picked in the first round are going in the second.

The Patriots need youth in their secondary so this seems plausible.

New England loves UConn cornerback Darius Butler. New England is smoke-screening by letting on that it loves UConn cornerback Darius Butler.

  1. Seriously, is it Saturday night yet?

  2. round 1 options in order, 1:Sanchez 2:Maclin 3:Ty Jackson 4: Raji outside of those guys any pick would have to be best available.

  3. trade down will be our best option.

  4. well for receivers, look to the second round for Robiski and Massaquoi. Sleepers

  5. If Sanchez is available at #12 Denver will take him

  6. I REALLY don’t see New England taking a CB in the 1st round – they’ll take one in the 2nd and 3rd and try develop them. An impact pass rusher is what they want.

    Cheers,

    Davo

  7. Keep hearing that Sanchez is moving up and KC (classic Pioli) is looking to trade out and pick up and extra picks. This has got D Snyder screwup written all over this.

Snyder loves Sanchez trades his (2010) 1st and (2009) 1st plus a 3rd to KC and picks Sanchez at #3.

Hopefully this means guys like crabtree and Maclin fall. They wont fall to 17 but it gives us a chance to trade back.

    Dont want the following players….

T Jackson (just an avg player)
P Harvin (dont love him or his size plus we have #29)
    Any 1st round QB

Trade back pick best avaiable RB/WR and then OL/DL in round 2 or 3

  8. I’ve said it before and I will say it again. ALL the interest is smoke, not fire. He WILL end up being there when Jacksonville picks at 8 and someone will trade up for him. Jacksonville definitely doesn’t want him and Denver’s new coach Mcdaniels has already tried him best to follow “the patriot way’ (See Jay Cutler Fiasco) My best guess for the trade up is the Jets, despite the fact that some of us don’t like the idea. Maybe this is an incorrect assessment, but flirting with giving up your second round pick for Miles Austin, proves that you obviously don’t value it too much. Therefore, giving Tanny and crew no hesitation in forfeiting it in a trade with Jacksonville at 8. To reiterate the point, it could come down to a “buisness decision”. Sanchez will sell some PSLs similar to the way that Farve did last year.

  9. Sometimes there is too much smoke to not be true Lucas…..Plus Snyder and the Skins coulnt keep a secret if there lives depended on it….

They are clearly interested. They tried for Culter and now are hot for Sanches. Plus Seattle might pull the trigger on Sanchez also.

  10. aka… drew,
Seattle may be smoke-screening about Sanchez because they want either J. Smith or E. Monroe to fall to them. If they can bait Washington to grab Sanchez at 3, they won’t have to worry about St.L. taking one of them and KC the other.

  11. Understood guys…..but I guarantee that Pioli and the Chiefs will take a defenseive player or trade out. they are not taking an OT at #3

Plus Washington and especially Snyder dosent even know what smokescreen means…. They clearly want un upgrade over Campbell and have tried 2 years now to replace him.

He dying to make some noise. They Redskins are an after thought in the NFC East.

  12. Agreed. Snyder’s about as subtle as an earthquake.

  13. Exactly…..lol

  14. Peter King’s premise will be flawed if the Detroit GM is not a moron. If he is not a moron, he does not gamble on Stafford and uses his first two picks to get a brand new OL. The team will still lose, but next year, he can pick up one of the better Qbs and put him behind a line which will not kill him.

If Stafford and Sanchez are both available, many of the mock drafts to date will be toilet paper.

    harlan

  15. AKA…..Drew, I am not trying to hate on what your saying but I think your doing exactly what Synder wants you to do. He wants everybody thinking that he’s moving up and taking him. I know that he is somewhat Al Davis like in his drafting ways, but I don’t think he pulls the trigger for a Sanchez trade, especially at 3. Besides this team is all around pretty solid and just needs a decent QB to manage the game. Another factor to keep in mind, they dished out BIG money this offseason (Hanyesworth, Hall) and that #3 pick QB is gonna want ALOT.

  16. Harlan, I think you’re right – I’m not convinced that the Lions want to spend all that money on a decent QB class, when they can wait until next year and have quite the pick.

  17. AKA Drew,

I hear what you’re saying about Harvin. It’s just that Leon W. and P. Harvin are built entirely different. Leon can’t do the things that Harvin can, and Harvin can’t do the things that Leon does. Leon is not a WR, he’s strictly a RB, he can catch out of the backfield, but that’s about it. Harvin is not going to be a RB in the NFL. So I’m not sure that having Leon negates the necessity of having a Harvin type. This also applies to Maclin, however we’d have a better shot at Harvin, Maclin will be taken in the first 10 picks.

  18. Lucas??

    Jay Cutler??

  19. Really hope that Maclin falls to us
