Please just skip the first minute … unless you are masochistic. As far as the Jets, if Sal Pal is right that the Jets are intent on trading up to #8 to get Sanchez … what do you think?

-
Why would team sources leak that information?
-
I think it would be the DUMBEST move by the JETS since Bradway traded up for Robertson. The JETS need a RB, WR and TE from this draft which they can’t get if they trade up for Sanchez.
Thankfully the JETS will be saved from making such a stupid move by the Redskins trading up to #4 or #5 to take Sanchez.
-
I don’t believe this story for one second.
-
NO!
-
It would be completely idiotic to give up that much for a guy who has 16 career starts and is as big a gamble as any when we have unknown commodities on the roster at the QB position. We have several needs from this draft, trading away our picks would make me lose all faith in Mike T, and make me believe that he is hell bent on getting fired, making this move will fast track the inevitability of his firing.
-
They said we need a big star to market the new staidum and they think mark sanche would do that i dont get that at all??
-
sometimes you have to roll the dice
-
WOW.. the Mr.T and woody really fell in love with Sanchez
-
Mark my words. If drafted, Mark Sanchez WILL NOT succeed in NY. He does not have the personality for NY.
-
i still think we need a #1 WR
-
Smartest thing the jets can do. Wait till eight. no matter how many of you dont get it, the jets need this guy. im know going to say ill give a 1st and 2nd for him. what can we really get at 17. get Sanchez and go with players who can back up other .
-
Jets are hot for Sanchez. I can’t hear the volume cause my speakers are shot ,but I heard right now Jax wants a switch of firsts, the Jets second and a fifth. I think it’s ridiculous. If he falls for some reason I wouldn’t hate the pick, but I say absolutely not to this trade.
-
And what if Washington trades up to #3 to get him and we’re waiting for Sanchez at eight? We get Maclin I guess but we still have serious egg on the grill.
-
All this talk is one year too late. Last year, the Jets could’ve easily moved up to draft Matt Ryan, who was a far superior prospect to anyone in this draft. Why does it always seem like the Jets are a day late and a dollar short when it comes to QB?
-
It is so funny to hear so many idiots talk about how bad we need the next sensational college prospect. Stop the madness! We’ve already got three unproven QB’s, and they’ve been in the system for a few years. Two of them have rocket arms, and they’ll cost a lot less than going out and wasting money and extra picks by trading up to get the next hot sensation.
Seriously, these guys never pan out, especially QB’s.
No we definately do not trade up for a QB who isn’t going to play for a few years anyway. If anything we trade down for more picks.
I think you increase your chances at success with more picks, not with Higher picks.
Brady was picked in the sixth round, Cassel was undrafted.
The point is that a lot of these guys have the physical tools to do the job, it’s the mentoring and the coaching that evolves them into a exceptional players. And a Jets fan I might be, but you simply can not deny that NE is a well coached system and like SF of the late 80′s that is why they have produced back to back great QBs.
Argue, I freakin dare you! -
Everyone wants to say that drafting a QB is such a big risk. I know that recently guys have come up and failed, but you gotta pull the trigger eventually. I love this team, but eventually you have to add some excitement. I know you won’t like to admit it, but drafting Sanchez would bring excitement and put people in the expensive seats at the new stadium.
-
Oh my god, there is a Jets fan that likes Gastineau?
That guy made TO look humble. -
SackDance99 – I know what you mean about being a day late and a dollar short. But I was happy that the Jets “splurged” to get Favre. It was better than wondering what might’ve been.
…although, I’m left wondering about what might’ve been on a whole ‘nuther level after their crappy finish…
-
He wouldn’t even play, are you serious?
We’re going to draft a rookie and start him over two perfectly healthy QBs that already know the system? Is that what is being implied? Seriously? -
Oh my god, there is people here who still believe that the Farve farce was a good idea? C’mon, are you kidding me? Wait a minute, I’m arguing with kids aren’t I?
-
Ryan had a good year and i still dont like him.Sanchez will be a better pro than that guy. You loser jets fans cry every year about not drafting a QB and wonder why we are the same old jets every year. We need to stop taking these 2nd rate QBs and hopr they become stars.
-
Teams are not going to make trades now.they will wait to see whos on the borad at the time . You have to know this already.
-
must….. get….. SANCHEZ
-
S-A-N-C-H-E-Z

I’m not a big Sanchez fan, but he does have some attributes that our guys don’t have. First, he was successful in a great program at the highest level. Second, he played his best games against the toughest competition. Third, he is as mechanically sound a QB as you will see. His set up is lightning quick as is his release…he might have a quicker release than Warner! Fourth, he’s very accurate. Fifth, he’s much more mobile than KC or Ratty and he throws on the run very well, much better than either. Sixth, he can buy time in the pocket better than KC…Ratty’s pretty good, too.
Ratty has a better arm, throws a great deep ball, and is taller. But, Sanchez is a much better prospect than KC and may have a higher football IQ than both KC and Ratty. I looked at more clips to get a sense of his arm strength and he just doesn’t have the gun that Stafford or Freeman has…no deep outs to the left in the pocket. But, Sanchez is fast and can sprint out and deliver a deep ball (with a tad too much air underneath, but so does KC). But, he delivers his other throws with more than enough zip. He’s just an inch and a few mph on his deep throws, especially to the left, from being an elite prospect (also, I wish he had more starts).
Here’s a bad quality highlight clip from youtube, notice his quick set up and his release…very fast :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_rib5nD5P0
Is he worth the cost to trade up and the cost of his contract (no. 8 money, with the QB premium)? Nobody will know that for, at least, 2 years.

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-7-106/Should-Jets-concentrate-on-O-line-.html
I didn’t realize how bad Brick was at run blocking last year, though I wonder if some if this is because the Jets chose to run more up the middle or closer to Faneca’s side because his strength is run blocking
-
Zartan,
Ryan just finished the second greatest rookie campaign in NFL history and, if you consider that he took his team to the playoffs and improved the team from 4-12 to 11-5, maybe the greatest. So, if you think Sanchez is better, the Jets should come up with a Cutler-type package to get him. I’m warming to the idea of taking Sanchez, but I thought Ryan was a better prospect (taller, as mechanically sound, amazing football IQ, great intangibles and better arm strength), but Sanchez does have that lightning release. It’s the price to move up that worries me most.
-
Mel,
I wonder what accounts for Football Outsider’s stats, which ranked the Jets’ runs around left end near the top, but runs between the LT-LG gap at the bottom.
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol
Maybe Brick isn’t that great at the point of attack, but better pulling? Strange.
-
fine to trade up. you just better be right if you do, so you have to pretty sure. see revis, harris, or for that matter drobertson. and all the noise around the qb position, makes it only moreso.
my question is, are you kind of burying clemens and hurting his confidence — knowing that sanchez’s likely a non-factor this year and there’s a better qb class next year — or like other qb’s, clemens has one year to prove himself and then hopefully have a good problem of 2 qb’s? -
Okay – let’s look at some numbers to help clarify things…
There have been 21 QB’s drafted in the 1st Round since 2002 – According to my opinion 7 are Franchise QB’s.. Ryan, Cutler, Rogers, Manning, Rivers, Roethlisberger and Palmer. That gives us 1 and 3 chance of hitting with a Franchise QB – we haven’t won a superbowl in 40+ years… I say go for it.
2008
Matt Ryan (3)
Joe Flacco (18)2007
Jamarcus Russell (1)
Brady Quinn (22)2006
Vince Young (3)
Matt Leinart (10)
Jay Cutler (11)2005
Alex Smith (1)
Aaron Rogers (24)
Jason Campbell (25)2004
Eli Manning (1)
Philip Rivers (4)
Ben Roethlisberger (11)
JP Losman (22)2003
Carson Palmer (1)
Byron Leftwich (7)
Kyle Boller (19)
Rex Grossman (22)2002
David Car (1)
Joey Harrington (3)
Patrick Ramsey (32) -
steviek,
If the Jets trade up to get Sanchez, he will be the opening day starter. Tanny will sign him quick, and Schotty will put him through a crash course. There’s no use in letting an inexperienced KC or Ratty start when you’ve just drafted an alleged “franchise” QB. Sanchez is the guy that will need the reps and experience. Also, with their elite running game, strong defense and special teams, the Jets aren’t a bad team for a rookie to start.
-
If they do that, this would be beyond retarded
Sackdance,
your right regarding ryan, he IS a better prospect than Mark sanchez ever would be. Sanchez as well as stafford and freeman are benefiting from a weak qb class this year……ecspecially freeman
Zartan,
you sound like your just speaking off of raw emotion and with no intellect, mark sanchez would easily be a second tier qb in any other qb class. You cannot tell me one thing that merits sanchez being a star in this league, and on the other end I can easily tell why he probably won’t.
I don’t mind the kid at all and I actually like his character, but dont hype him up to be something he’s not, ecspecially if you can’t justify anything you say.
-
Dknyj,
Actually, the hit percentage is higher if you split the 1st round into top half and bottom half. Arguably, only Rogers and Flacco are potential “franchise” QBs in the bottom half. By my count, 6 of 13 top half QBs are “franchise” or potential franchise QBs and if Young, Leinart or Russell pan out (and I think at least 1 of them will), the odds are more like 50-50. So, maybe trading up to get a QB is worth it?
-
And c’mon now sack, let’s be serious…….none of the current qb’s in this draft will be opening day starters, ecspecially sanchez. The man has 16 collegiate starts under his belt. Please tell me you were being sarchastic.
-
YES!!! I was iffy on Sanchez for a while, but I’m on baord fully now. Here’s some context I’m a graduate journalism student at USC and I’m in the marching band. I saw all of the home games this year and traveled to the Rose Bowl for our 2 games there(UCLA and Penn St.) and Stanford. Sanchez is the real deal. He would be perfect in NY he loves big media markets and is business savvy. He is ready for the real world. Leinart was still stuck in a college mindset when he went to the NFL. Sanchez is NFL and business all the way. I was at his pro day and his arm looked great long bombs were no problem and his intermediate routes had nice zip on them as well. He is mobile in the pocket and does a great job looking off his receivers. I think we should go up to 8 get him and hope he’s the next Flacco or Ryan. Flacco played at a FCS (formerly 1-AA) and Sanchez plays at a top D1 team in a pro style offense. Had he stayed one more year I am supremely confident he would have surpassed McCoy and Bradford and been the 1st QB to go next year, but I think he’s ready to go now and will be ecstatic if the commish call his name after he says The New York Jets select… this Saturday.
-
ridinmywave,
Draft pundits said last year’s class was weak, too, but Ryan and Flacco both had great rookie campaigns. You just never know. Next year’s class looks strong, but here’s betting that at least one highly touted guy will drop like a stone. It happened to Painter this year and Brohm last year.
-
only thing that worries me is that if we let kellen go without any legit competition (ratliff aint makin strides yet) the wheels will fall of the bus like they did last season and we’d b screwed at QB.. then again we’re not coughing up anything in the ballpark of cutler otherwise we should’ve gone out and got cutler!! we gotta hold jags hostage not them hold us, they dnt want to give up a meaty salary specially to another QB after they gave garrard a big deal, n everyone in top ten wants to get OUT of the top ten!! 1) trade thomas jones, 3rd rd pick, 2010 2 rd pick for anquan boldin, 6th rd pick.. if we get boldin, which seems more plausible than sanchez, we’re gonna have to give up players because we’re short on picks.. james wants out in arizona, they can get jones and give him the contract he wants stead of givin’ it to boldin and we can lock up boldin.. 2) offer 1st, 4th, brad smith, conditional 2010 pick to jags for 8th pick IF sanchez is still around,, if not we can go ahead and take freeman/pettigrew/best available player regardless and then go jarron gilbert 2nd rd.. sound like a plan?
-
ridinmywave,
Who would’ve predicted that Flacco would’ve started after coming from I-AA? I’m being serious because the Jets have such an inexperienced QB group. Seriously, why start KC for his 9th pro game or Ratliff for his first when you’ve just traded up and spent a boatload of cash on Sanchez? What’s the sense in that? If the Jets had Warner (Eli), Brees (Rivers) or even Kitna (Palmer), then I’d agree with you. But, KC, Ratty and Ainge are not experienced, hell, I’ll take Sanchez’s USC starts over KC’s less-than-stellar 8 NFL starts back in 2007 any day.
-
I didn’t want Favre here, but I can appreciate the effort by Mr. T and company to go for it. Who knows? If Favre would not have broken down, if we would’ve had more speed at receiver and Jenkins’ body would have held up better, we could have accomplished great things.
Right now though, I like the guys we have at QB and they deserve a chance to compete, but I’m not going to be upset with The Jets if they go for it and land Sanchez. Yes, we have other needs, but it’s not like Mr. T has done a poor job with this club (yeah, I know some of you disagree). Let’s just say we have a few question marks in certain offensive positions, but it doesn’t mean Mr. T and company don’t understand this. QB is one those uncertain positions and they might believe that Sanchez is too good for them (as a franchise) to pass up.
-
Maybe they’re interested in Sanchez. But I’n skeptical of any story like this at this point. As someone said earlier, why would a team source leak this information? It just doesn’t make any sense. It’s all speculation. No one knows what will happen. If Jets sources really are “leaking” this type of information, it’s more likely that they don’t want to take Sanchez but rather they want to bait someone else (Washington, Denver, etc.) to make a blockbuster offer to trade to #8 so Jacksonville won’t take Maclin.
-
This guy is going to be a bust if we are going to mortgage this draft we mind as well trade for the best QB in the draft and that’s stafford
-
I really hope this doesn’t happen.
-
Sack,
Well that’s your personal opinion. For starters, flacco went into the season as the 3rd string quarterback behind troy smith and boller.
If you don’t like kc, ratliff, or ainge, that’s one thing, but no head coach in their right mind would start a junior qb off the bat and annoint them the starter.
Never happened, probably never will. Its obvious suicide. And if you would take an unproven kid with 16 collegiate starts over an “experienced” young qb with 8 starts, I feel sorry for you.
Any football analyst or coach who praises sanchez would whole heartedly admit that the kid needs at least 2 years on the bench in case to be developed.
No underclassman qb who was thrown into the fire right away has EVER succeeded and ALL have turned out to be busts…..with the exception of big ben(who wasn’t even the opening day starter)…and he’s not exactly asked to do much in the offense anyway and posseses unique physical tools.
And furthermore sanchez’s has the experience of a sophmore in college, not even a junior!
-
Better yet Ill further the ante by telling you ALL underclassman qb’s have turned out to be busts since they were eligible to be drafted in the 80′s.
The only exceptions would be big ben, jeff george and drew bledsoe……you do the math.
If we are not satisfied with what we actually get to see from clemens or ratliff for a WHOLE SEASON, next years quarterback class will be much better anyway.
But iany football expert would tell you that this is not the draft year for “franchise qb’s” basically because the top rated ones are all underclassmen, last year that was not the case, which is why this qb class is even weaker.
I mean c’mon now, there are still big question marks about the top rated qb in the draft!(Stafford)
There was no questioning ryan’s abilities last year…..
-
this is what im thinkin….y cant the jets trade tj to the cards and get boldin..and the jets and cards switch 1st round picks so the cards move up…plus the jets throw in like a late rounder…sounds fair right?? then they can get moreno! perfect!
-
I think if this deal is done Sanchez will start sooner rather than later.
Most teams that draft a QB high in the first round have a poor supporting cast, especially the OL. (Think David Carr.) But considering the Jets team and expected offensive and defensive philosophies I’d guess they’d be willing to live with “on the job training”.
If the Jets braintrust believes Sanchez is a franvhise QB, I say go for it. Whether or not he is, I’ve no idea.
-
if we draft sanchez we’re finished…im not explaining this comment but read into it what you want…cuz its just my thought…
-
I hear alot of WR talk. Would you rather the Jets trade up to get Sanchez or Crabtree? Few WRs(Calvin Johnson being the last) have it all. Crabtree is for real and Cleveland is shopping the 5th pick. This kid is gonna be a monster no matter who’s throwing the ball to him.
-
Boldin for TJ sure does look like a match made in heaven.
-
You don’t win championships in this league without a stud quarterback… If the Jets are sold on Sanchez then i see no reason why we cant package our 1st and 3rd rounders in order to acquire this kid. If we trade up I have faith that our coaching staff will develop Sanchez into our franchise quarterback. Jets fans should realize that franchise quarterbacks dont grow on trees. Clemens is NOT the answer, and fans who think that Bret Ratliff is the second coming of Tony Romo are in for a rude awaking. Sanchez has everything you ask for from a franchise quarterback-arm strength, accuracy, poise and the knack for making the big play. I beg the Jets, i would like to win the Superbowl in the next ten years so pleaseeeee draft this kid and turn him into the top flight quarterback that he could potentially become.
-
i agree.. we might have to throw in a 3rd rder, maybe higher, n get a late round pick back so we dont have 5 picks heading into draft day.. this all revolves around sanchez,, if he falls to the jags our draft rooms gonna b busy
-
sorry i am 7 hrs late to ask “dave04″ what he is smoking when he says that sanchez doesnt have the personality for NY….
hollywood flair…played in USC and won big games so he is used to the spotlight…. combined with being grounded b/c his pops is a fireman etc, a natural leader on the field…. yeah…awful personality for ny.
and i am sorry if this has been said before….havent read any posts since that comment by dave… but if the guy stays in college and does EXACTLY
-
sorry….
does EXACTLY the same next year as he did this year…..so even if he doesnt win the national title…. he would be the #1 pick…even over bradford if HE wins the title…
so if u can move up to get him by trading 17 and whatever 2nd rd pick we have….u do it…. if you believe he has the talent….which last time i checked a boatload of teams do…
-
Klecko71,
Better late than never. I agree that Sanchez has the right personality for nyc. He seemed a perfect fit in his interview with Adam Shein(sp?). Talked like he knew he was coming here..maybe he knows something we don’t -
ridinmywave,
In today’s NFL, no team would spend the money on a QB taken in the top 10 picks in the first round and not start him in his first or definitely in his second year. Look at Dknyj’s list, nearly every QB started in his second year and I believe half started at some point as rookies. You posit that Sanchez would sit 2 years and start his third?!? I guarantee you that whatever team drafts Sanchez will either start him this season at some point or, at the latest, next season.
Your point about juniors, to me, is somewhat meaningless. Does it matter that Sanchez is a “redshirt” junior and will receive his degree in the spring? All 3 of the top QBs in this draft are juniors, you cannot seriously be saying that not one of them will start this season. Plus, as everyone knows on this blog, I have absolutely 0 confidence that KC can competently handle the QB position and Ratty/Ainge are major question marks. So, yes, I would, as crazy as you think it is, start Sanchez if he shows the proper grasp of the offense and Sanchez was known for his “cerebral” nature and uncanny grasp of the USC playbook.
So, feel “sorry” for me all you want (where did that come from?!?). If the Jets draft Sanchez, he will be QB1 on the NYJ at some point his rookie season and, likely, on day 1. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.
-
How would Sanchez be a second tier QB in any other draft?? Kiper said that Sanchez likely would have been the number one draft pick if he had stayed one more year at USC..
Every team is so high on Sanchez right now, scouts, coaches, and gms are gaga over him.. but of course, you, the fan posting on this blog is the genius, and everyone else is the idiot.
-
I believe this Sanchez talk is all just a smokescreen to make th Redskins trade up with the Browns to draft Sanchez. Then this allows the brauntrust to pick up Crabtree @ 8.
There are couple of things that always comes true when evaluating QB’s. First you cant teach accuracy, if you were an accurate QB in college usually that remains true in the pros. Second, you cant teach not staring down a receiver, something that Clemens still hasnt gotten over. Also you cant teach pocket presence ala Favre/Manning.
The main gripe with Sanchez is his lack of game experience. But to the analysts the more they look at game tape and they study his mechanics, etc he appears to have all the tools. He would never have been seen as a top-10 pick if he didnt grade out on film. I mean Sanchez has a huge ceiling, and if he can live up to the hype he would become one of the best in the league.
Just think of it this way, if Sanchez spent another year in college and produced even better would he be a better prospect? Next year he might be second behinf Bradford and McCoy. But Big 12 QB’s run the spread so its hard to really see how that game would translate to the pros
-
No way Crabtree lasts till 8 and even if he does the Jags will draft him because their entire receiving core puts more snow up their nose than 1987 off-season LT. I know they just signed Holt, but still – they need young WR’s
-
thanks sec334….. was late to this post then stopped in my tracks when i read that comment.
say what u want about sanchez but to have the opinion that his personality / makeup isnt right for nyc is quite….a tough opinion to agree with =)
if somehow we could get to #8 for 17 and a THIRD i would do it in a heartbeat for sanchez. would think it would take a 2nd though….
saturday will be interesting……starting at 4pm…lame. i will be on a lake in upstate ny….but will of course keep my eyes and ears on espn. just in case an hour or so in we are picking 8th!!! thankfully its 10 min between picks now….
-
If Sanchez is there at 17, we should take him… if not we should take a WR or RB
-
Trade up to the No. 8 pick and use it on Crabtree or Maclin. Sanchez is the next Brady Quinn.

I think we should go for it. he can be the face of the franchise for a long time. Our defense and running game can carry the load for the first season while he develops. We can be similar to the 2000 Ravens
