Opinion: What Would Make You Furious on Draft Weekend?

Mock drafts, Google News searches, RSS feeds, and all of my bookmarked sports sites are giving me a lot of the same. When it comes down to the Jets’ 17th pick, everyone is absolutely clueless. That’s not intended to be a harsh criticism of any writers out there. It’s simply the truth.

All of us on TJB have worked tirelessly to scratch up any bit of news, and everything has ultimately come down to a “Jets will do this, but might do that,” assessment. This tail-chasing game is tiring.

I think the first round is overrated enough as is. The Jets hit the jackpot with Revis and Mangold. Dustin Keller also looks like he could be the real deal. But when there are stars on this team like Leon Washington, Kerry Rhodes, and Jerricho Cotchery, I can’t help but feel like the Jets’ true magic hour comes in the middle rounds.

But as tired as I am, and as badly as I want this weekend to be over, there are a few things the Jets can do to aggravate me.

1. Mortgage the Draft to move up too high

I do believe Mark Sanchez has grown on most fans over the last few weeks. He’s charismatic, every report says he can make all the throws, and scouts are saying he looks to be able to adapt to the pro-style smoothly. But has he grown enough to warrant a deal into the Top 5?

I’m not an expert with that ridiculous draft value chart, but any type of deal that could cost the Jets a first round pick in 2010 is not a good idea in my book.

2. Select a WR in the first round who’s not named Michael Crabtree or Jeremy Maclin

I implied it in my last post, and I’ll reiterate/clarify it here: Crabtree and Maclin are the only WRs worth taking in the first round. Everyone is convinced that the drop-off in talent between every prospect after those two isn’t significant enough to lean one way or another, and I’m inclined to agree.

I’m not impressed with DHB, and I’m not interested in a multi-purpose player like Percy Harvin who can’t lay off the weed for 30 days before an inevitable drug test. Please don’t take that to mean that I want a boy scout; I’m only questioning his judgment skills and self-control when the opportunity he’s been waiting for is right around the corner.

Aside from that, he strikes me as the typical jack of all trades, and master of none. There are better players to be had.

3. Pick up Pettigrew

He doesn’t suck. But I agree with Jane McManus’s assessment that Bassett posted this morning. For those who missed it, McManus writes:

Brandon Pettigrew would provide talent and a balance at the TE to this offense that would be unparalelled, no question. But the middle of the field is already going to be crowded with Keller, Stuckey and Cotchery who are players who can make catches in traffic. How many middle of the field players can you add to this offense?

A blocking tight end could be undrafted, or a veteran could be picked up after team’s make their June cuts. I wouldn’t completely write-off Keller as a blocker either. If he’s working on his blocking ability, then all the Jets need is depth at the TE spot.

4. Package the draft for Anquan Boldin

I fear I’m going to take some heat for this, but to my own heart be true. I think Boldin is an excellent receiver. He’s tough, he’s strong, has great hands, and makes things happen after the catch. And I do not want him.

Because it’s exactly how I feel about Jerricho Cotchery.

I know everything there is to know about Boldin as a player. I’ve seen the highlight reels, reviewed the stats, and have watched him play enough times. His 1,300-yard rookie season, six years ago, was impressive.

But as it stands today, he’s a WR who struggles to play a full season. Eric Smith inadvertently broke his face last season, and he’s only young-ish.

I don’t want Boldin for the same reason I don’t want Pettigrew. This team doesn’t need another short-route receiver. They need someone to keep the secondary on their heels.

Aside from that, this isn’t Madden’s franchise mode. Boldin wants a deal comparable to Fitzgerald’s 4-year/$40 million extension. It’s why he’s wanted out of AZ for two years, and why he doesn’t fit on the team, or under the cap.

…and most importantly…
5. Waste the second-day picks on projects

Since this team has done fairly well in the first two rounds over the last three years, I think we’ve all neglected how terrible the second day picks have been. I don’t want that to happen again

Sixth- and seventh-round gems are hard to come by. For every Marques Colston there’s a thousand Jacob Bender’s. But for the last few years, the Jets haven’t selected true contributors. They’ve wasted picks on projects that struggled to make the practice squad.

If you’re not going to find an average player in the final rounds, don’t waste the pick on a small school scrub who has poor footwork, average upper body strength, and no chance to even play in Canada. I don’t want Nate Garner 2.0.

What would make me smile…

Quiet on the buzz front as of late is Chris “Beanie” Wells. The more I see of him, the more I want him in a Jets’ uniform. The No. 28 is off-limits, but this kid’s running skills will be a welcomed addition. I think he and Leon will complement one another quite nicely.

(Fast forward to around 0:45 if you’re not interested in the intro)

If we don’t want to make a big deal of Thomas Jones’ assumed contract dispute, then let’s make a big deal of his age. Better yet, if his deal isn’t renegotiated and he shows up anyway, it’s unlikely that Tannenbaum is going to pay that final bonus out in 2010. Basically, he needs to be replaced eventually anyway. So why not with Beanie?

I’ve done a lot of typing. I really want to know how the TJB readers feel.

  1. What will make me furious? If the Jets draft a QB or WR in the 1st round

  2. If the Jets do happen to trade into the top 10 (lets say 8) and the choice is between Crabtree/Maclin or Sanchez, I will turn off my tv should the jets take sanchez in that position.

Based on Rex’s offseason, I’m willing to bet he pulls a shocker and selects a DE in the first round.

  3. I agree with #2 and #5; I tend to agree with much of what you’ve said about Boldin, but for the right price, he’d be worth it. Do the Jets plan to stretch the field with their offense? I haven’t seen that in the past few years. If that remains the same, why do we need a burner who will only make a few plays – esp. when we may have that in house.
I don’t think Pettigrew would be a waste, and an even better value if the Jets could move down a few spots to get him. Keller is a loss as a blocker.
I think Wells has bust written all over him. Where was all this toughness in college? Watch how he doesn’t finish plays. Couple that with injury history and he’s not worth a #17 pick.

  4. Trading up for Sandy. Wait til’ next year for a QB: McCoy, Tebow, that Oklahoma kid.

  5. NO FREEMAN

  6. Freeman and Heyward Bey would piss me off. I’d rather make a move for Sanchez than have those two underachievers at 17

  7. Agree Bassett, what would aggravate the hell out of me would be to mortgage the draft for a college QB who had 16 starts or take a WR who already has a posse, likes to smoke grass as much as he likes to run on it. But i do disagree with you on Pettigrew if they are able to trade out of 17 into the twenties and accumulate an extra pick or 2. The Boldin deal I would only do for a first rounder this year and a throw in player to relieve some cap issues that may arise from signing Boldin to an extension.

  8. I agree with the basic logic of the post but I’m not sold on Wells. I think Moreno might be a better player for us. I wonder if Wells style translates to the NFL. He was physically dominant in college. Will NFL defenders be so easy to toss off with a straight arm? I don’t think so. I just don’t see that much elusiveness or natural running ability in Wells. To me, Moreno is the much more impresive of the two. I’d be very happy if he (Moreno) winds up a Jet.

  9. Trading out of the first round completely and selecting a kicker in the second round.

  10. WE NEED KNOWSHON …..KNOWSHON ….KNOWSHON….KNOWSHON

  11. Unless Maclin, Raji or one of the top tackles drops to 17, I would be hughly POd if the Jets picked someone other than Pettigrew or one of the top two RBs.

  12. Props to D$, I spent 3 years trying to justify that draft to myself.

I hear that, in a survey, the name that came up most often for hardest opponent was Chris Wells. That should definitly warrent him some consideration over Moreno, but I think Moreno has the feel of the next Thomas Jones (always slightly above average but never a star.)

As for Pettigrew, I would be furious. Unless the Jets plan on running out of singleback, double TE sets for over 50% of their snaps this season, it would be complete overkill.

  13. off topic

espn is now reporting arizona have shorten their stance on wr anquan boldin and will trade him for a 2nd rder and a player….maybe #52 and thomas jones what do you guys think?

  14. 1) Drafting a QB period. Freeman, Sanchez, and Stafford are gonna need at least a year on the bench to reach their potential.

I agree with not drafting Pettigrew and any wr not named maclin or crabtree. Mr T has been drafting well for the most part so he should do well tomorrow.

  15. Hoz, Why trade for Boldin at all? Hes a slightly older Cotchery. That would also lock us into getting a RB with the first round pick in that scenario.

  16. This is the first draft in a long time that there is no one around our pick who I am interested in. I like Raji, Jackson, Sanchez, Crabtree, and Maclin (Maybe Smith to try at RT and if Dbrick wants too much we can move him to left, but I hate D.Woody). Other than them most of the prospects feel like they either wouldn’t help us too much or aren’t worth the money. If we can move our pick into the 20’s or get a first next year and a 2nd this year or some similar gobbly gook. I’d be happy. I don’t see anyone whos hould be there at 17 and feel like they will help us overtake the Pats.

  17. i dont see why arizona would want thomas jones…

  18. I agree with #1 and #2, though I wouldn’t mind if we traded down to late in the first and took Britt. Just no Heyward Bey or Harvin or Nicks (too much like Cotch, though if we have to pick one of these three I would pick him). I wouldn’t mind Boldin for the second rounder and player as mentioned above as long as the player is not Leon, Revis, Harris, etc. And like others on here Moreno has grown on me over the last few weeks. Please no QB in the first round, especially not Freeman. And I agree with you Bassett that we can just get a blocking tight end in the later rounds.

  19. It would definitely tick me off if they took freeman or dhb, harvin. I would love to see moreno in a jets uniform also. What would be even worse is if they didn’t address depth on O-Line. Faneca & Woody are up there in age and they don’t have much backup

  20. If we stay at 17 and take Josh Freeman…… I dont care if we get him later int he draf tlike if we trade up in the 2nd round from #52…..but if we take this kid in the first round I am going to be furious….

What scares me is they invited this kid to the draft?? If we pass then its tampa or a major fall out of the 1st round.

Also…..I would be less furious but just as annoyed if we drafted Pettigrew!!!

  21. The things I see about chris Wells are insane. They’re calling him a late mid-first round pick. But people are comparing him to Jim Brown. Who knows… When Baker complained, they drafted Keller. Now that Jones is a big mouth, it might just be time for Wells.

  22. What Would Make You Furious on Draft Weekend?
#1 – Trading any of our picks so we’ll have less than the 6 picks we have this year.
    #2 – Drafting a QB @ 17.
    #3 – Drafting a TE @ 17.

    What would make me smile…
#1 – Drafting the best player on the board @ 17, regardless of O or D.
#2 – Trading the 17 for an established pro not named Boldin or Quinn.
#3 – Trading the 17 for additional picks, including a pick still in the lower part of round 1 this year.

  23. If the Jets trade for Brady Quinn, I’ll be throwing the TV out the window. Hopefully, that’s just smoke.

  24. i think the soundtrack to a youtube highlight reel makes a huge difference to my impression of the kid im watching.

how bad ass does beanie look in this clip?

DONT REACH FOR PERCY HARVIN. PLEASE.

  25. someguy

why i would trade for boldin is to keep teams from putting 8 in the box plain and simple boldin for a 2nd and a player is a still do you know what the cowboys gave detroit for roy williams ok…..boldin is leaps and bounds better than williams and you know they are going to trade him to a AFC team.

  26. just got an e-mail from a friend who works for FoxSports AZ – Cards will now take a 2 for Boldin. I would trade a 1 (but not 1 & 3), so I would certainly trade a 2.

And for those of you that are going to say “Boldin is just a bigger version of Cotch and he is not a burner” take a look at what the passing game did in 1998 – Boldin/Cotch have more speed than Wayne/Mouth did. Clowney can play the Dedric Ward role

  27. I agree with Every point here. Trading picks this year to move up I’m fine with giving up two ones would be too much, I’d like to see Sanchez in green but not if the cost is too high. Crabtree is a given but we have no chance of getting him, Maclin I was never sold on but I can see how a case could be made for him as for the rest they are borderline guys that are jumping up due to numbers and needs. The people calling for Pettigrew make a good case, till you think about it for 1 second, Baker would have been way cheaper than Pettigrew yet they let him go…does that tell you how they want to fill the need for a pure blocking TE? To me it seems like they want a cheap guy who is a thin tackle. It would be really nice to see a player picked beyond the 4th round stick with the team, maybe with Mangini gone they might get a chance to show what they can do…or they’ll just stop drafting “team captain” guys. Also all year I have thought that this is the year to get a RB, all of the RB’s this year are flying under the radar to at 17 they may have the entire class to choose from minus 1 guy, Jones is gone next year and while people may say that you can get a quality starter in the late rounds but I’m sure after last year the Titans and Bears are very happy with the guys they picked.

  28. Things that will make me furious:

    1) Trading up to get Sanchez, he is as big a gamble as any, 16 career starts and people are hailing him in the 2nd coming of Joe Montana, mortgaging the draft is a ridiculous concept for this team in my opinion.

    2) Draft Josh Freeman, the guy is a massive project, it will take him years and i don’t really want that project.

    3) Not addressing the WR position in the first 3 rounds. I know many are down on DHB and the other first round guys, but it needs to be addressed early, the one pick that i feel would be excellent would be Louis Murphy out of Florida.

    Things that i would like:

    1) Drafting Moreno and trading a 3rd and Brad Smith for Brady Quinn or something of similar value.

    2) Picking up Louis Murphy at some point in the draft, one of the most under-rated players in this years draft

  29. ESPN is reporting the Cardinals lowered their price for Boldin to a 2 rounder. How do we not get him for a 2?

  30. I have already stated what would make me furious but the following things the Jets would do could make me very happy:

1 – Not drafting Pettigrew and finding a R Quinn or B Pascoe (my boy) in the 6th round
2 – Getting a badass RB like Jennings/Greene or even A Brown in rounds 2/3….. just another back to cause damage late in games
3 – Big WR not named DHB.

These things would also make me smile

1 – Mel Kiper and T Mcshay actually throw hands over the lions taking Stafford
2 – Somedoby like the Raiders do something stupid so the one idiot in the spiked shoulder pads creates a great youtube moment
3 – My family to go out so I dont have to hear…..why are you watching the draft? Its so boring!! They still dont get it!!

  31. I do disagree with the Boldin thing, I have watched him for years and I live in AZ. There is was not a burner on the Cardinals at all last year and between Boldin and Fitz they had an amazing offense. YOU DO NOT NEED A GUY THAT RUNS 4.3 TO HAVE A GREAT OFFENSE. That being said, I totally agree with you that Beanie Wells would be a great pick especially if we can trade down into the mid 20s and pick up another 3rd round.

  32. the thing about boldin that worries me is that we are going to have to extend him for $10 million a year. he is a great player in the shotgun or west coast offense, but i dont view him as a true #1 in an all-weather AFC east offense. he is too similar to JC. i think he would make plays, but not enough to pay $10 million a year.

we already have enough possession receivers (JC, keller, stuckey). we need an outside burner – and that isnt a roll that boldin would fill

  33. I’ve done a lot of research and a lot of time thinking and wavering on this. Due to the cost of moving up to the top 8 and the lack of standout WRs in the first (minus Crabtree and Maclin?), I would be pissed if we drafted anyone with the 17th pick with the possible exception of Tyson Jackson being available. We only have 6 draft picks and we can get another 2nd-day pick by trading into the later first round w/o giving up on anyone. I agree that if the Jets pick Pettigrew in the first, they’ll have a lot of explaining to do and I don’t expect them to do it.

I think we trade into the late first round and either still be able to pick DHB (it looks like us and the Giants are the main teams interested in him), or pick up Kenny Britt.

  34. If you put a gun to my head and forced me to pick a WR or RB at 17, I would say Maclin or Moreno. I would much rather trade down. Arizona is hot for a RB. If we gave them our 1 & 4, they would need to give us their 1, 2 &3. Or, maybe a 1 & 2 and we’ll throw in Jones. Especially if Freeman is still there at 17, we should get offers from MN and TB. Or suppose we trade with Atlanta, they’re desperate for defense. Our 1 & 4 for their 1&2. Trading down is the way to go, especially this year.

  35. ESPN AFC east blog is reporting the Patriots are trying to get in the top 10, probably to pick up Tyson Jackson.

I hate them so, so much. This would make be furious before draft weekend.

  36. ill be furious if they dont make a major play for boldin…

man imagine moreno n boldin over on the offense within one offseason

  37. Taking a QB or WR in round 1 – if we want a receiver, we should trade a 2 & later round pick to AZ for Boldin

  38. What would make me Furious is if we take Brandon Petigrew with our first pick when we traded up last year to get keller… And if we deal away a lot of picks moving up to get sanchez just cause i feel we need to keep our higher round picks because we have a few needs that we could defently Sure up through this draft….

  39. Please let the Pats go get Jackson….He is the most overrated player in the top 20 this year…..

This guy has the proto size for 3-4 DE but is just an average player. Suprised he is the hot prospect right now

  40. I don’t disagree with your analysis aka…drew (i actually agree that he too is probably overrated), but I think Sanchez is the most overrated player right now. He could be one of the great busts.

  41. McShay’s latest mock has the Jets with Maclin…now that would make me smile.

TJ and #52 for Boldin with Moreno on the way…that would make me smile also.

  42. Well said Smitty. I couldn’t have said it better, so I won’t.

  43. i will be furious if…

    1) we take a QB or beenie wells at #17

    2) we take a tight end #17 and try to justify it because of his blocking ability

    3) we dont take a offensive lineman day one

    4) we trade up and draft anyone not named michael crabtree

also, PLEASE STOP COMPARING COTCHERY TO BOLDIN! they arent even close in terms of their ability. if we can get him for second rounder then tanny better make it happen. he would make our offense so much better.

  44. The only players I’m happy to get out of the first round with are Maclin and Moreno.

If they take Harvin I won’t be upset because everyone agrees he’s got unreal play-making abilities, and Rex can smack some sense into him.

Pettigrew would be okay, but we can do much better at 17, and wait til the middle rounds to get a blocking TE (Quinn, Hill) and add depth to the defense as well (Gilbert, Owens).

Sanchez is a pipe dream because if he does fall to 8 Washington will outbid us. If we trade for a Quinn/Anderson/Campbell we better hold on to our 17th pick and package a player with # 52 instead.

Personally, I don’t think any QB on the block is that much of an upgrade to Clemens, and although Boldin is a similar receiver to Cotchery, I still think he’d be a fantastic addition considering his ability to hit pay dirt and embarass d-backs.

Say we give up 52 and Thomas Jones for Boldin, and draft Moreno at 17 I’d be a happy guy.

Oh…and no Josh Freeman! Let the Bucs take him…

  45. If we want a QB why not trade our 3rd pick for B. Quinn
if we want a WR why not trade our 2nd pick for Bolden
that way we can pick up Knowshon Moreno with our 1st pick — Hell yea

  46. Only one thing would make me furious: if they moved this draft back by a week. I’m dying already!

  47. I like what Roman has to say. Pick Moreno at #17. Trade TJ and a 2nd round pick for Boldin. Trade our 3rd round and one of our Mangini guys for Quinn. I know I have no clue about cap space, but this would be my ideal draft situation.

  48. Drafting DHB. Check out this statistical analysis of his collegiate career:
DHB’s stats for each of his three years at Maryland:
    ‘06: 45 receptions, 694 yds, 5td
    ‘07: 51, 786, 3td
    ‘08: 42, 609, 5td
I created a sample of elite NFL Wrs and see how their stats in college compared to DHB’s, in particular I was interested to see if there were any that had similarly pedestrian stats in college who went on to become stars in the NFL. For my sample, I took the top 20 receivers in the NFL in 2008 (based on a composite of receptions, yds and tds). The discrepancy between the stats for those 20 WRs in college and DBH was startling. 17 of the 20 had at least one season in college in which they utterly dominated. Seasons of roughly 75+ rec, 1000+yds, 10+ tds. Obviously DHB has never come close to that kind of year in college.
The three NFL receivers surveyed that did not put up that level of numbers in college are Hines Ward, Anquan Boldin and Dwayne Bowe. However, as you will see, the best seasons for those 3 blow DHB out of the water. Further, one has to consider when evaluating Boldin and Ward’s numbers that they are converted QBs that statistically showed huge improvements in their final collegiate seasons as wide receivers. Dwayne Bowe also showed tremendous improvement in his final collegiate season, roughly a 50% increase in productivity. DHB on the other hand, put together three fairly repetitive seasons, his sophomore perhaps being his best, and none of which were elite. There simply is no statistical evidence to suggest that he has steadily improved or is on the verge of a breakthrough. Also the notion that DHB is a homerun hitting wide out is not supported by the stats. Indeed of his relatively paltry 13 career tds, several were rushing, not receiving.

Boldin: Played only 23 games in college at wr, final collegiate season: 65, 1011, 13td.
Ward: Never played a full season as a traditional wide out. Was used often as a scatback, played some QB and played flanker. His senior year he played 10 games at wr (avg college season is 12 games), stats projected out to 12 games for senior year: 66. 850, 7td.
Dwayne Bowe: Final collegiate season saw over a 50% increase in balls caught over average of previous two seasons: 65, 990, 12td.
The fact that DHB never produced at the level of a prime time producer at the college level does not bode well for him becoming a prime time receiver in the nfl. Keep in mind that boldin, ward and bowe’s college stats are the WORST from the 20 wrs I surveyed.
Finally, look at the stats for the other wrs being considered as first round picks for this year (I recognize that some differences can be attributed to system, i.e. Missouri and Texas Tech), but the differences are startling. 2008 stats:
    Crabtree: 97, 1165, 19td
    Maclin: 102, 1260, 13
    Harvin receiving: 40, 644, 7; rushing: 70, 659, 10
    Britt: 87, 1371, 7
    Nicks: 68, 1222, 12

Given the enormous disparity in statistical production at the collegiate level between DHB and any of the 20 WRs surveyed, or indeed any of the other WRs being considered for the first round this year, I do not think you can justify spending a first round pick on him.

  49. Let me give some recent Jet’s draft history…mmmm…let’s say last year (2008). Who did the Jets draft with their 6th pick? – Mr. G. (Who should I tackle now coach?). So, please……unless the Jets draft Moreno/Mclin or T. Jackson at 17th the whole draft will be a joke for the Jets again. And am a Jets fan!!!! My only hope lies in that Rex will have the strongest influence on the pick. If you leave it to Tanny and/or Woody might as well don’t watch the train wreck on Sat. unless you like that kind of stuff. Rumor is that the Eagles want Moreno…smart, very smart. Just one more reason why a team like the Eagles make the playoffs consistently and we don’t!

  50. I will go buzurk if the jets actually trade up for sanchez….

Maclin or wells I will be content with in the first round, anf if not, I hope the jets are able to get their hands on either britt or DHB.

I’m not that impressed with moreno, I would rather wells easily, he has a lot more upside considering his size.

Moreno is almost as small as leon and I don’t think they would compliment each other well. That’s a very weak and small backfield, while also considering plays they would have to block.

Another thing that bothers me about moreno is his lack of speed and seperation, I think that’s essential for a small back. Wells is not really a pounding rb,but is a slashing big back who CAN pound, I’ve seen him punish DB’s and safties in the open field and is an imposing figure.

Don’t gimme the injury crap, he’s young and peterson battled injuries too, and we don’t need wells to be an every down back, he would be splitting time with 2 other backs this year and he is a better compliment to leon in the future. Case closed

  51. I agree that Moreno isn’t as big and bruising as Beanie Wells, Ridin, but if you saw a few Georgia games against some of the best college teams in the country over the last couple of years you’d know that Moreno is a very powerful runner. He may not have the quickest 40-time, but he runs well in the open field, and isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder and hit or be hit. I don’t think the size of he and Leon in the backfield would be a problem because Michael Turner is a smaller back and look at what he was able to do last season. Size at the RB position is overrated in my opinion.

  52. What would make me furious on Sat.

    1) If we draft a TE @17
    2) If we draft DHB @17
    3) If we draft a QB in the first round.
    4) If we miss out on Anquan for a 2nd rounder opportunity.

  53. Best quote out of this stream:

    AKA…..Drew, on April 24th, 2009 at 3:02 pm Said:
These things would also make me smile

1 – Mel Kiper and T Mcshay actually throw hands over the lions taking Stafford

    ….
Getting those 2 to throw hands over anything would be AWESOME!!!

  54. Drafting another young, inexperienced QB

  55. I agree with absolutely everything you have said except for the DHB criticism. Its great to see that someone shares the same opinion as myself.

However, the Jets need first and foremost a big, quick receiver opposite of Jerricho. DHB was in a prostyle offense in maryland, he ran a 4.3 at the combine and hes got a good set of hands. If he falls to 17 I think you need to take him… Id actually be surprised if he falls that far. However, if Crabtree is available at 8, TENENBAUM GET HIM! I WOULD GIVE UP A 1ST 2ND AND 4TH FOR CRABTREE! If Sanchez and Maclin were available at 8 and we moved up, I wouldnt be upset if we took sanchez. I understand the criticism this kids been facing but I think hesgoing to be the real deal.

I also would love if the Jets drafted moreno or wells. Both running backs are unreal and have had great attitudes throughtout the draft.

  56. harvin would piss me off……….

  57. Taking Harvin would make me furious. Anybody too stupid to lay off the weed when you KNOW you’ll be tested is a moron. BTW, he scored a SIX on the wonderlich. If you’ve ever seen a wonderlich test, you’ll know an average 10 year old could score over 20. Seriously. If you doubt me google it.It’s a SIMPLE test.

Taking any WR other than the top two (both of whom I’d love) at 17 would really piss me off. If it’s a WR you must trade down first.

If Boldin gets traded for LESS than a #1, I’ll be very upset if we don’t get him. Not addressing a need cheaply with a PROVEN top 10 talent is just moronic. I don’t give a crap if he’s “similar” to JC. He’s MUCH better. We’re 12 million under the cap. We can fit his contract demands, and he’s worth it.

I’ll be happy if we get Sanchez. (I was pissed we missed out on Cutler. The price was damn high. I think he was worth it.) I’m of the opinion Sanchez will be a franchise QB, and we haven’t had one for far too long.

  58. Taking a project like Freeman in the first round would make me sick.

If we don’t get a starter with our first pick, I would be disgusted. Could be RB, WR, TE, OL, or DL but, must be able to step right in.

If someone in our division gets Ramses Barden, I will be in a state of depression.

Harvin will be a star. His problem is that he played two positions and people don’t know what he’ll do in the pros. If he dedicates himself to WR, there are not going to be too many DB’s who can cover him. His hands have never been an issue. The man is a human highlight film. You disbelievers will all see. All the talk about smoking pot and bad influence in the locker room will go right out the window, if he has a good coach. Rex is just the man to straighten him out. Time will tell.

  59. Beanie Wells is tailor made…for the D/L. His upright, smash mouth running style just doesn’t work in the NFL for a long time. Brandon Jacobs is always injured. The rest have short careers, like Christian “The Nigerian Nightmare” Okoye or Jamal Anderson. And, Beanie’s durability was questioned at OSU. Plus, he’s no threat out of the backfield in the passing game. Moreno is a much more complete back and, if you want a battering ram to complement Leon and TJ, then draft Rashad Jennings in the 2nd or 3rd round. And, IMO, Jennings running style is better…he leans through the LOS and straightens up later. But, Beanie does have the talent to lead the NFL in rushing, he just won’t last.

  60. thing that would upset me!!

    1.going after sanchez
2.going after Maclin. Maclin =peter Warrick or Desmond Howard.
3.not Trying to get Brady quinn.

    things to make me smile!!
    1.Getting Quinn
    2.getting Jarron Gilbert
    3.not drafting projects

  61. WELLS IS OK WITH ME TOO !!

  62. I am a huge Ohio State Fan, but you argue that Boldin gets injured too much and you want Wells. Did you not follow this guy in school. Whenever they Buckeyes needed him, he was injured. This is not who we need. We need either a good rushing lineman or a huge down the field threat at receiver.

  63. Moves I would hate:
    Drafting Harvin
    Drafting Pettigrew (especially at 17)
    Drafting Freeman
    Trading #17 for Quinn

    Moves I would love:
    Drafting Moreno
    Trading down and drafting Britt
    Trading for Campbell
    Drafting Maclin
    Drafting GIlbert
    Drafting Robiskie in the 2nd
    Drafting Barden
    Trading for Boldin
    Trading for Edwards

  64. I would also HATE drafting DHB at 17!

  65. I would especially hate drafting at 17:

    Josh Freeman
    Percy Harvin
    Brandon Pettigrew
    DHB

I would love drafting at 17:

    Mark Sanchez
    BJ Raji
    Jeremy Maclin
    Andre Smith
    Malcolm Jenkins
    Michael Oher
    Tyson Jackson
    Knowshown Moreno

I would hate if we drafted anyone else at 17. I would be happy to trade back and get J Gilbert, one of the WRs

  66. Like many of you, I would absolutely hate drafting/trading for a QB!!

Can someone please explain the logic behind why we would, when all we’ve heard is that this year’s Jets are gonna be tough on defence, running the ball, etc..

So, ummm…..how does drafting a rookie QB that won’t know the scheme help??? Beats me…. Oh and for those who are in love with Sanchez/Freeman – go check out Kellen’s Oregon tapes on youtube – the boy looks just as good back then as these 2 prospects do now anyhow.
