kid looks good. He hits holes real well.

  2. avatar SoFlaJets says:

OK I am ****officially****giving Shonn his new nickname THE GREENE BUS!!!!!

    Whaddayathinks Jets fans?

  3. avatar Hatman013 says:

I really, really like this kid. He looks like a bruiser and unafraid to run headlong into a defender if he has to. This is exactly what we need in our running game. Pair him with Leon, man, that’s a nice backfield right there.

  4. avatar Dont-Forget-Where-You-Came-From-Cheese Mac says:

Granted it’s highlights and from only two games, but he looks like he is always falling forward.

  5. avatar Kyle "The Young Jet" says:

I like That The Green Bus.. He is going to be here a while.

  6. avatar Mike S. says:

He is a pounder type back, just like Thomas Jones. Rex probably loves the guy as he looks to hit guys in the 2nd level.

But I’m still not sure if he was worth the price. We could have added big receiving targets for those cold and windy late December northeast games — WR Ramses Barden (76) and TE Anthony Hill (115) both seem very interesting.

  7. avatar ian says:

yeah, looks like he hits hole fast, and also that he reads his blocks well, plus he falls forward. those three qualities usually amount to a good goal line back. might be a good way to work him in while still giving TJ carries.

  8. avatar SoFlaJets says:

he’s a completely different type of back than TJ Mike…he looks to me like a cross between LenDale White and Jerrome Bettis-only faster. Watch how he always goes low when contact is about to happen.

  9. avatar Harlan Lachman says:

Well, what I saw in these clips was that he had huge holes to run through. There was not a single contested play in the first minute and 18 seconds and maybe 4 contested plays involving a good move in the total two minutes if one was being generous.

He hits hard and falls forward when he has a head of steam. But these highlights do not inspire me. I sure hope he can get yardage with much smaller lanes and openings to justify the selection and that there were better highlights available that were not used.

Did not see him play this year except for a few minutes.

    Time will tell.

  10. avatar ronnie says:

    great pick.
we have 3 running backs have completely different types of running games.

I see a little Brandon Jacobs in him as well.

  11. avatar SoFlaJets says:

Very true Harlan-as my son and I were watching I kept calling out what kind of vehicles could go through them…”there’s a truck, a VW, a Mustang sized hole” Especially against PSU

  12. avatar AKA.....Drew says:

The good thing is he breaks tackles and runs really hard. They were some big holes but he his a Big Ten animal so I am happy we have him but not loving the price to get him

  13. avatar umm says:

for the people who didn’t like this highlight. go to youtube and type in his name.

IMO, this highlight sucked… it didn’t show much of the smash mouth, relentless runner that the other highlights show.

here’s just one, there are others http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_Dwt2eCUuQ

  14. avatar RKNYC says:

I think he is an ok pick but I sure hope TJ shows him how to use a stiff-arm. He could have easily broken a couple more yards off on a few of those runs had he pushed the defender in the face.

Maybe they overpaid a bit but I think he’ll be a decent back in the NFL especially once TJ is done after next year.

A WR or TE was probably more called for but Clinkscales and his crew had this guy in mind for a while too probably and were shocked that Green was there.

  15. avatar Hawk Fan says:

Ok, I’ve been going on Jets blogs to see what true fans are saying about drafting our boy Greene. He’s an awesome back. For those of you not impressed, please go to youtube and look at some highlight videos. The one posted here honestly sucks, and does not show half the the skills that he showed all season. Great pick up for you.

  16. avatar RKNYC says:

And he reminds of Marion Barber a bit not the bus. He only looks like the bus because he was wearing black and yellow.

  17. avatar Brett Justin says:

I hope he gets to play this year the kid is going to be 24 when the year starts sucks that hes one of the older guys out of college but well see I would love if we could deal Jones a 2nd and 4th next year for Braylon ; ))))

  18. From this video & the one I’ve seen on Yahoo, I’m not impressed. He does have good vision, but my grannie could find those holes. He doesn’t seem to break many tackles. And I agree where is his stiff arm?

  19. avatar Nick says:

Did someone say his nickname is The Green Bus? That is awful. His nickname is War Machine.

  20. avatar umm says:

I’m sorry RKNYC, but TJ could learn a lot from this rookie… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB09ZcOE_co&feature=related

When have you seen TJ hit someone and keep going? 90+% of the time the play is over when he has contact.

  21. avatar C P says:

He goes down way to easily.

  22. avatar Harvlis says:

Greene is a tank. He follows his blockers well and punishes the tackler. Any RB needs a good O-Line. You can’t fault in Greene for following his blockers, running for a ton of yards and TD’s. He is like a mini-Bus. I am excited to see him. This may allow us to trade TJ for Braylon Edwards. Our free agency is not over.

Our training camp is going to be made up of veterans, this season. Who knows, maybe Rex wanted it this way. Now, he can concentrate of bringing Gholston up to speed.

  23. avatar ridinmywave says:

Doesn’t break tackles?……goes down too easily??? Are you kidding?….

I’m on my phone so I can’t see the footage posted, so it must be a very bad clip…

I’ve seen shonn greene play and I a have seen tons of highlights on youtube…he’s probably the most dynamic back in the draft….and basically the hardest to tackle, he’s the best bruiser next to wells.

Go watch more footage on him before we make baist statements on whatever that was posted on this site.

  24. avatar dc in iowa city says:

He showed up against every opponent. 100+ yards in 13 games. Did not pad his number against lesser teams.

Iowa did have a very good O-line this year, and he often wasn’t touched until he introduced himself to some unlucky DB. See the Purdue game.

He’s not a game breaker in the NFL in my opinion, but very solid inside runner when you need a first down.

Barely caught any passes, didn’t need to. Not his game.

He’s a 23 y/o junior, without a lot of miles on his legs as he was only the starter for one year after sitting out due to grades.

    Great kid. Go Jets.

  26. avatar jeff i says:

i’ve watched a bunch of highlights of this kid. the thing that stands out the most is his vision. that’s really the key to a RB’s success.

people pump up Leon’s speed and quickness but it’s his vision that differentiates him. this guy seems to have similarly good vision.

  27. avatar Smashmouth says:

New nickname = The Green Mini-Van With Great Vision (GMVWGV)

  28. avatar Iowa Native says:

Shonn did have a lot of big holes to run through last year but I think his vision will be a big part of what allows him to be successful in the NFL. He’s also a load to bring down (and yes working on his stiff arm would help). I don’t know what he ended up with but in the Minnesota game (12th game of the year) he passed 800 yards after contact. My favorite comparison to Shonn is Natrone Means, just hope he stays healthier. http://www.hawkmania.com/articles/2008/12/26/news/doc49517d3fb2317100626784.txt longest SG article ever. I think his 12 yard TD against Purdue was my favorite all year.

  29. avatar Tim R says:

I went to school with Shonn. from little league to highschool this guy was a damn truck with no brakes.
