WhatifSports.com takes a look at the top rookies for the 2009 season and ranks Mark Sanchez #3:

Mark Sanchez is better than Matthew Stafford. Sanchez projects to complete 60% of his passes and an interception per 36 attempts for a typical NFL team. In the same vacuum, Stafford completes 54% of his passes and throws an interception every 29 passes. Stafford is ranked higher because of two things: 1) the Lions will throw the ball more and 2) Calvin Johnson. Sanchez should be solid this season and for several years. Neither of these quarterbacks appear to be consistent Pro Bowlers (New York bias aside), yet Sanchez’s bust potential is much lower than Stafford’s.

His personality, accuracy and the fact that he played at USC are some of the big reasons why he went #5. That he has such a good completion percentage is a sign of hope in projecting him to the Pros. Iowa RB Shonn Greene did not make their list.

Tip ‘o the cap to Alon S. for sending this along.

What New York bias? We send the most players to Hawaii in 2008 and people want to act like it’s a tradition for the Jets to be voted in.

Otherwise, that Calvin Johnson advantage is something I would’ve loved for the Jets to have.

    How funny… Geek football.

Maybe Woody should fire the entire scouting staff and hire the best programmers to analyze next years draft class. Free agents too.

Assign all offensive players zeros and the defense ones. Take off those pads and start brushing up on your algorithms.

    Now mix it up boys!
