TJ is going nowhere. He can't sit out the season, or even the first 10 games to get credit for the season, He'd STILL be under contract for another year, He has no leverage because he's 31, He's seen his last big payday. All he can do is play out this season and hope he produces. If he does, and the Jets cut him to avoid his roster bonus the following year, THEN he can sign a 1 or, if he's very lucky, 2 year deal elsewhere.

Once again I say his "holdout" is a tempest in a teapot.

Call me when he actually misses a required team practice.

Don't get me wrong, I like TJ, but what he wants and what he will get are two different things. Without question, I would prefer him to be there this year.

watch him crawl back with his tail between his legs and be happy IF they throw him a small bone. Like I said, he's good, not great behind a terrific Oline and terrible when his Oline sucks. He is overplaying his hand.

NYCPE:

You said:
"He wants more more money, but has 2 years left on his old one (which no one forced him to sign), What would you call it."

In view of Tannenbaums history of NOT KEEPING their PROMISES to PAY BONUSES by using escape clauses (see Moore, Coles and all), I would call that VERY SMART, NOT reworking. He is only making sure he gets what's comming to him period, end of sentece.

Also, he is a smart guy and knows his better days are numbered, still ahead, but now more than ever, he wants to EXTEND ala Rhodes, not rework a deal which I don't blame him one bit.

Yes, he led the afc in rushing last year, with the lowest total in years and with a good, but not great, ypc. He is a good player, no question. My points are:

A.) He is being paid fairly
B.) He has 2 years left on his contract
C.) He is 31
D.) He is good, not great

If they throw him a bone, it will be a small, largely symbolic one so that he can save face.

Harlan:

****So you think a $ million salary for an NFL RB that was the leading rusher las year is just fine? I guess you must've come from Tannenbaum's school of financing.

****And do you thing Green, a rookie, can carry the "ground and pound" offense by himself ? Or do you want to get Leon killed?
Oh, I forgot, we have a new super hero in NY.....FRANCHEZ !!!!!

TJ will shut up and play. If you really think that 31 tear old players who are being paid fairly should have their contracts reworked when they still have 2 years left on them, you must be an agent. TJ will shut up and play because he has no other option but to do so. What is he going to do, sit out the season?

ramble914:

Like our famous philosopher once said: " It's deja-vu all over again". Only this time Tannenbaum has outsmarted himself. In trying to do to TJ by drafting Green what he did with Baker by drafting Keller, it's not going to work this time. If he follows the same path with Jones as he has wirh Coles, Moore Kendall and all Jones will walk and the Jest offense will suffer. Now he needs to satisfy TWO high price RB's. He must therefore, either give the $$$$$ to both players or damage our potentially devastating ground game. And in view of our "young" QB situation he can't win. Rex, and the team, is countting heavily on our ground game if we are to make the plyoffs.

If TJ walks, he walks away from a sure million bucks (salary plus any ancillary income). More importantly, he walks away from a career. As a FA next year, he has a chance to sign for at least another million bucks and likely more.

Hank, give it up. TJ has a contract with two years left on it. If is willing to walk away from at least two million and the chance to play football in NY, then he would not have helped this team anyway.

If you want to worry, worry about depth and our starting WR, TE and DE. If you insist on worrying about TJ, worry about where he will play next year because it is very unlikely he will play here unless Greene or Leon gets seriously injured and TJ has a second good year (and, if you look at the teams we played an his ypc, that is all he had).
