Film Room: Dustin Keller’s 2008 Highlight Reel
For those who have forgotten just how impressive Dustin Keller was as a rookie, iggle29 pieced together some of his best catches in 2008. Enjoy the click down memory lane.
Caution: Rap music is attached to the video. If you prefer not to hear Big Boi’s “Kryptonite”, or if you’re in an area where someone could find it offensive, it might be best to lower your speakers now.
With all the talk about wide receivers, watching some of Keller’s catches makes me all the more confident in the passing game next season. He’ll have a year of experience, a better understanding of what defenses want to do to him, and an expanded role as Schottenheimer recognizes how versatile he really is. It could be enough to do damage next season without having to reach for another team’s disgruntled receiver.
Special thanks to S-Dubb on the find!

GREAT VIDEO!!! im not going to lie i love dustin keller he was leaps and bounds better then i thought and im so amped to see what he can do with a year under his belt… he will be a big part of this offense…
no one is talking about keller when they talk about protecting Sanchez with the run game and great D. I think having a great pass catching TE like Keller is such a HUGE weapon for a young QB. Especially with the speed of Keller. Not to mention clearly they got off on the right foot seeing as he was the only one to attend the throwing session that Dirty Sanchez wanted to put together. It could be a great thing.
Keller will do better, if the Jets get a big time WR to distract defenders.
And to think a year ago so many Jets fans were booing the Keller pick cause they wanted Devin Thomas. I know it’s only been one year, but so far I think it’s safe to say Keller wasn’t a bad choice.
Two things on that long pass against the Rams.
Keller is just amazing. He has soooo much speed and he’s going to be a nice security blanket for Mark Sanchez.
The other thing…On that long pass.
As much as I can’t stand Brett Favre right now, that pass gave me chills because of the arm strength behind it. It got there FAST. Despite my hatred for him right now, his acquisition excited me and gave the Jets a new dimension and one with arm strength that I have never really seen in a green and white uniform.
Well Namath had a big arm too apparently. But nothing makes a catch like that look better than a cover-2 zone. Heck no one was really by Keller until the safety got there.
1:49, Keller gets a pretty good hit on #31 (Safety Brandon Merriweather?).
2:16, #31 has the chance to stop Keller and force the fourth down, Keller shakes off the hit and stretches for the 1st down. #31 goes for the leg tackle instead.
Might be a match up to watch next season.
Great clip iggle
he is a pro bowler in two years
This kis is going to be elite, hey he might of worked on his blocking you never now?
Keller is a pro bowl caliber football player, and he has an excellent work ethic..meeting with Sanchez to practice is proof of that. So why not give him the benefit of doubt. I am sure he knows better than any of us what he needs to work on, and will give 100 percent to accomplish his goals. I bet he lays out a couple of LBs this season…his blocking will be fine.
With all the Favre-bashing we forget how much we loved him up until the Denver game. That being said, that long play-action pass should’ve been a touchdown if he led him away from the defender. But I’ll take a 40 yard gain or whatever it was any day of the week.
I’m a huge Keller fan, as we all should be. I’m not sure we’ll even have to wait until next year for him to be a pro-bowler — especially as Gonzo, Witten, Winslow, etc. are all now in the NFC. Gates + Keller in the pro-bowl 2009-2010.
That Video just reminded me of how much i loved Brett…
Keller’s hands and speed make him into a potentially gifted receiver who is difficult to prevent from being open- the perfect third down receiver. I hope he devoted much of the off-season improving his skills as a blocker. There is really no excuse for him to be so unimpressive blocking. Also, I see very little yacs as he catches the ball and then gets creamed. He needs to watch Witten and TG tapes to get a sense of where he should be. An accurate thrower like Sanchez should make him into a devastating weapon.
Dustin Keller will be awesome this year, as I see him becoming the go too guy.
I have to say its highlights like this that reminds me how lucky the Jets were to get Brett Favre. He opened up the running game with those long quick passes (Not something us Jets Fans are use to seeing).
It’s truly a shame that the season ended the way it did. Yes a SB win would have been awesome, but an AFC East title would have been just as good.
It makes me wonder if Mangini was either such a coward to pull Favre after he was hurt, and didn’t want to deal with the repercussions. Or Mangini knew that Kellen Clemens would be out played by the local high-school powder puff team, and truly knew that an injured Brett Favre (who could play at 45%) would still provide a better chance at winning? We will never know….
I’m with Jets Fan. I don’t come away from the season with hate for Favre, just disappointment.
That Rams game was one of my favorite Jets games of all time and my hopes were never higher.
Keller could have done so much more, last year, if Schottenheimer used him properly. There were ten games where he caught two balls or less. When we hit our stride, in the middle of the season, he was catching six balls or more. During those games, he was a major threat. Then, down the stretch, they forgot about him again. He presents a problem for other teams. D-backs are too small to cover him and LB’s are too slow. I loved reading the article about him and Franchez hooking up on a high school field. I think the two of them will become a prolific tandem.
Great highlight video! Can someone try to put a video together of him actually trying to block, did he ever try to block?
I love this notion that Keller is going to catch a million passes with no blocking tight end and no gamebreaking wide receiver.
Joe B,
The Jets just resigned Franks.

He isn’t great, but isn’t much of a downgrade from Chris Baker. Keller will continue to develop as a receiver and hopefully as a blocker and will be a beast this year.
notice that nothing happened after the denver game… how does the idiot coach take him out of the game plan ?
I have been saying for months that Dustin Keller is the reason why Jet fans shouldnt be so concerned about the receiving core. This guy is our #1 RECEIVER, not Cotchery. Keller will be our biggest offensive weapon.
im really excited for keller this season. Hopefully he can emerge as a great weapon for us. Came through on many clutch first downs in the new england game late in the season. He is a tough guy for the defense to match up against which was why he was so effective. Looking forward to sanchez to keller for many many years.
DUSTIN, I hope one day I can get an autograph or a picture. He is one of my favorite Jets. But enough with that diolization we still need a deep threat you guys, yea Dustin is REAL GOOD but he cant sprint 40 yards in 4.3 seconds.

I heard that Keller got all of his scouting exposure by posting his highlight film on hi-lights.com.
