Alvin Keels Thinks Jets Are ‘Pissed’ at Him, Figured it All Out by Himself Like a Big Boy
After reports Although he “couldn’t be reached” (allegedly) by intrepid reporter Dave Hutchinson yesterday, how does Alvin Keels feel about the whole Leon holdout situation? Why, let’s check his Twitter page of course!
But why would they be pissed? Because they’re mad Leon is holding out? No, surely the team realizes that this is part of the process. Are they mad because Keels poked them in the eye yesterday (anonymously, of course) by calling the team’s offer ‘insulting’? Yes, that’s probably more like it.
I’m no bastion of internet behavior, but my thought is that if I had an agent, I’d probably not want them Twittering stuff like that above. It’s not doing anyone any favors.
My thought? This to me just seems like yet another example of Keels inexperience, not comprehending that things like Twitter and his negotiations with the team are interrelated. Sure, as a fan, I want Leon to get a new contract, a big one, but I don’t want to see his agent publicly acting nonchalant about the process and basically owning up to the fact that he was the anonymous source. Either go on the record and stake your name to a comment like that, but don’t half-admit it, it looks terrible.
I know Keels is still learning his way around the NFL negotiating table. Keels was recently fired by prospect Andre Smith — a guy who was thought about as the top overall pick in the 2009 Draft but tumbled because he wasn’t ready for he Combine, wasn’t ready for the transition from college to pro, that’s his agent’s job, not the player’s. It was Smith’s firing of Keels that many pundits say stopped the free-fall, landing Smith at the sixth spot, instead of out of the top ten altogether.

To think an athlete could watch the Andre Smith disater and not run from Keels is hilarious and actually makes me question Leon’s intelligence.
