Real Deal Franchez-field?

by Bassett on May 12th, 2009 at 2:30 pm

Mike Lombardi and I have a somewhat colorful history when it comes to our views on the Jets (i.e. The Great Cap Debate of Febrooary Aught Nine) but it seems that while I’m excited but cautious of the Jets new quarterback, Lombardi is willing to share his and others excitement, emphasis is his.

My phone was on fire last week with information about mini-camps and what players looked great, especially the draft picks. Not sure I’m buying this positively or negatively. The camps are just that – camps – and they’re a fresh look at the players, but to make a clear determination right now would be premature. However, one person I respect greatly who knows pro football inside and out, having played the game, told me that Mark Sanchez is the real deal – the real deal.

And this certain former player thought so much of Sanchez’ skills that he attached his name … oh wait.

Glad to hear it, but I still want to see it in pads, in foul weather, against a maniacally led Belichick defense before I’m willing to say the same. Don’t get me wrong, I want to say the same, but I want to see it, when the bullets are real, first.

Thanks to Anthony for sending this on.

I love seeing this good Mark Sanchez news, it lets me be incredibly optimistic and pretend that nothing bad could possibly happen. Hopefully he really is “the real deal.”

As I have said before, I have no idea if Sanchez will be a star or not, but we do know he isn’t nearly as dumb as Brett Farve. Sure, Sanchez will have his share of growing pains, but he won’t be throwing off his back foot into triple coverage or throwing a screen pass to an opposing defensive lineman. That’s a major improvement in my book!

Everything sounds wonderful roght now with our new boy Sanchez……but its May so …….

Don’t tell me that, I started settling down with Franchez hype. Stories like these get me excited again.

Technical question here: Why is it taking so long to download the blog? I have DSL and it takes 2 minutes to get this page up.
    Thanks

James, what is your OS and how much ram do you have?? If you’re running Vista you need to max out your memory. I run with 3 gigs, my kids have 4. If you’re running XP you can get away with a little less.

This sight has a lot of graphics compared to google.com so it may take longer to load but 2 mins is way too long.

I’m not a web master but more ram should help you with streaming video, utube…

As for this post and Mini Camp.

My analogy is to golf. “If you can’t do it on the range you’ll never do it on the course. BUT! If you can do it on the range, it doesn’t mean you can do it on the course”.

Translation, thank God he can do it in practice or we’re really in deep rough.

I don’t know why but I have a really good feeling about Sanchez. And that is never my feeling about this team. Play him from the start this year and get his first year over with.

  13. avatar LA Jets Fan says:

Clemens has yet to prove he cannot do the job. Sanchez has lots to learn before we hang our hat on him. Being in LA now, I saw every USC game and Sanchez just didn’t put up the kind of numbers you expect from SC week in and week out. I still think they should have traded out of the spot, picked up Rhett Bomar, who is a better QB than Sanchez out of the box, and given him a year behind Clemens just to geive him a chance to get up to speed. Of course, the Hated Giants drafted Bomar, to add insult to injury. I’m not too confident in a rookie QB starting – Flacco and Ryan had stiffling defenses and unstoppable rushing games…I don’t see that with us this year. Perhaps this is the best long term solution, but, especially considering the brutal schedule, let’s not our expectations too high. Let’s give him a year to get the crap kicked out of him and we’ll see how he does next year.

All righty then…….lets start drinkin the cool-aid boys! The Jets are going to do it this year……..I been waiting so long…..this is it…..its the real deal……..going to get it done……we can’t lose…….best in the NFL in 2009…….LOL

Why not Mark? Why not the JETS? Why not us?!!! Its about time something breaks great for the NY JETS.

    I’m in on the Kool-Aid!!!!

However knowing that a Super Bowl Victory, or AFC Championship might be a pipe dream this year given all the changes that have occurred this off-season, I will gladly except an AFC East Title with a playoff birth to start with!

    LETS GO JETS!!!!

  18. avatar Crazy Jets Fan!!! says:

Jets-Fan-4-Life I believe we can go all the way this year, but I’m a forever fan of the Jets. Realistically, with all of the changes made (especially in the coaching dept.) I can still appreciate an exciting year we can build upon and that’s the minimal I expect.

  19. avatar ramble914 says:

Here I go again, letting my emotions and passion for the JETS get in the way of my rational thinking. I keep thinking that this kid Sanchez with the charisma and good looks and punchant for the game takes us to the promised land. I see hightlight reel after hightlight reel of Mark Sanchez hiting, in stride, Dustin Keller for Td after TD. I see Bart Scott and Kris Jenkins, and Calvin Pace, and David Harris destroying opposing offenses…oh well, its just the Jets teasing us again.

    Well… maybe not this time!

  20. avatar jetfanATL says:

    LA Jet Fan,

Atlanta’s defense was hardly stifling last year. Doesn’t make any difference to the Sanchez debate but Ryan was and is the real deal….

  21. avatar James in TN says:

Thanks Doug, I have Vista, It seems to be fine this morning, the past 2 days its been crazy.

  22. avatar James in TN says:

Oh and pass the koolaid this way, we are on the right track.

  23. avatar LA Jets Fan says:

    jetfanATL,

Glad we’re spreading Green across the country! OK, not stiffling, but efficient. The defense and run game are both crutial for a successful rookie QB, so it does matter to the Sanchez debate. The Falcons were 17th in the league in passing offense (mediocre, not quite “The real deal”), the Ravens, 27th. (Los Jets were 16th, BTW) .

And all you guys geeked up on the “highlights”? Always, always, always take a look at the opposing teams in the highlights. The Sanchez reel is full of Ohio State and Washington clips.

  24. avatar jetfanATL says:

    LA

I’m with you on running game and defense being critical to a young qb leading a successful team. I was just pointing out that the Falcon’s D wasn’t great. Your point is valid though. I’m very excited to see the schemes that Rex and Pettine put together. The Jet D is talented but for the past ten years or so they’ve always underacheived especially on 3rd downs…that was true under Cottrell, Henderson and Sutton….hopefully Pettine changes this…..I think we can win somewhere between 9-11 games if our Defense comes together and Schottenheimer calls plays taking advantage of our offensive talent

  25. avatar jack in Texas says:

well im drinking the kool aid, lets go Jets!

    ATL,
What do you think of Gholston? This link gives a positive assessment(http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/05/gholton_impressing_new_jets_je.html), but I always think back to the Parcells, “If a dog doesn’t bite when he’s a pup, he’s never going to bite.”
