  1. At this point most Jet fans also don’t get it. Here is the latest “info” from Cimini
[Washington is believed to be seeking at least $5 million a year, with guarantees somewhere close to the $17.5million given recently to the Jaguars' Maurice Jones-Drew.]

Leon and his agent and Jet fans don’t get it. We should only sign Leon to such a deal just to give him money he deserves this year. We should not guarantee huge dollars to a small, speedy back (half of what he wants IMHO would be a lot). Leon is going to 27 so a three year deal sounds about right.

We have much better options. If he wants to hold firm, he will get nothing more this year, be RFAed or tagged next year (if there is no CBA he is only an RFA for one or two years) and it would still make sense from a risk reward perspective to tag him the third year rather than pay him so much.

Tanny would have to be nuts to accept those numbers. If the CBA is not renewed, the Jets can have Leon this year for something like $600K. Next year they can tender him as an RFA like $2 mil and keep him or get a first and third. I am not sure when he would be a UFA, but that would only cost then about $7 mil. That means for less than $10 mil, we have Leon for three years with ZERO risk of DEAD CAP space. Think of the risk of a $17.5 mil guarantee. What if the little speedy back gets hurt in the first or second year of that deal? That is a huge risk factor when we can have him for $10 mil for three years with no risk.

What is Leon going to do? Retire at 27 or 28?
