Canny seems to be hopeful of the Jets and their chances at getting Leon back into the voluntary workout program.
Keels didn’t say when Washington would return to the OTAs, but his tone suggested that as long as the negotiations were moving along, his client would be back soon. Reporters have access to the locker room in between OTA sessions today, so it’ll be interesting to see if Washington has returned and what he has to say.
Well we’ll see. I think the Jets have over the last year or two taken a line that they don’t negotiate with people who are holding out, period. Which is why you saw Chris Baker come back last year before his new ‘deal’ got done. I wonder if the same case will be made for Leon.

i really dont get why this hasn’t gotten much attention. Give leon the new deal. Trade T. Jones for something and then sign e.james or d.mccalister to replace jones.
The still have plenty of room under the cap and those 2 RB’s would run (pun intended) to be here because they’ll be getting the bulk of the carries. -
Leon has definetly outperformed his contact and should be signed to a new deal. The problem is the Jets are pushing the cap number and Leon apparently is looking for superstar money ($6 million per year for the #2 running back). It does apear evident that the Jets should try to sign Leon for four more years at the ~4 million per level, if possible. I thin it is extremely unlikely that the Jets will up the money for Jones. TJ has already been paid hansomely and we have too many others to lock up.Best move so far was drafting Shon Greene.

I might be mistaken, but I am pretty sure we do not have plenty of cap room. Ronnie, I do understand the point you are trying to make, and given the current situation it is very hard to like Thomas Jones right now, but give it time. Once Leon signs, and Shoon Greene gets better acclimated with the offense, Thomas Jones will realize just how expendable he is. You are absolutely right, James or McCalister would love to come in and run behind our O-line, but we what we need to do is stand firm with TJ and work on signing Leon to a bigger deal. Once that happens Thomas Jones’ leverage will be gone, and he will be even more motivated to come in and rack up the yards and carries, due to the fact that we all know he will not be returning next year. Its easier said then done, but should work on leons deal now and put TJ on the back burner for now.

This is good, sign Leon and let TJ know that he must honor his contract, then when TJ comes back run his wheels off this year, give him a hand shake and a thank you and let him go next season, he will find out how good he had it with this a prime Oline.
