Link: Cards Rejected Boldin Offers
It’s speculation Saturday, folks and with that we shift our attention from Plaxico Burress and Thomas Jones, to another name who’s name has been bandied about in connection with the Jets: Anquan Boldin. Kent Somers of AZCentral.com reports that the Cardinals rejected not one, but two solid offers for Boldin prior to the draft.
Graves declined to reveal either offer, but Bears GM Jerry Angelo told local reporters that he offered a second-round pick.
The Eagles also made an offer, according to an NFL source: a third-round pick and starting cornerback Sheldon Brown. The Cardinals quickly rejected it.
Earlier this week, Eagles coach Andy Reid told a Philadelphia radio audience that the price for Boldin was too high, both in terms of trade compensation and a new contract. As a baseline, Reid threw out trade terms of first, third and fifth-round picks, in addition to a new contract worth $10 million or so a year.
So there you have physical evidence of what’s been offered (and surmisely rejected). While Reid surely was pandering to local audiences as Somers suggests, the general area is still probably true as we’ve heard that any offer has to start with a first-round pick. To say it’s steep would be an understatement. Cards GM Rod Graves is awfully close to overplaying his hand. Brown is a good NFL CB and a player who could help immediately and a 3rd round pick could have been another player who helped immediately. Also, a second-round pick for a disgruntled wideout demanding $10 million in annual compensation is probably the highest-round pick they’re going to get at the moment. I don’t know about you, folks, but I wouldn’t expect to see Boldin in a Jets (or anyone else’s) uniform any time in 2009.

Sheldon Brown is a CB not QB. But I don’t blame you too much for the mistakes; you’ve been a roll so far. Keep it up!
Graves isn’t overplaying his hand at all — demanding a price for Boldin that he knows won’t be met is exactly his strategy. He knows that, with Kurt Warner nearing 40, the Cards’ window is shutting fast, and he wants to keep Boldin, who’s still under contract for a couple more years. So by publicly shopping the WR, and letting it be known that he’s demanding a 1st-rounder, he’s trying to placate Boldin a bit by showing that the team is attempting to meet Boldin’s demands, while also hoping that Boldin sees the trade demand as an indication of highly the Cards value him as a player.
The Cardinals will be sorry they didnt trade him this offseason. He is a tough receiver but he has been banged around a lot lately. He is going to want 8-9 million to play opposite Fitz and it will crush Arizona’s cap.
I am not a huge fan of Boldin especially for our team. He has simliar ( better though ) skills to Cotch and I dont think is worth that type of cash.
I would take B Edwards in a seond over Boldin He just has so much more upside at this point
AKA….Drew, dude they’re making a superbowl, and might not get a chance a gain; their division as I said before is out of character… there’s no really to challenge them at this time. They’ll make sacrifices to keep him around. Then after the upcoming season they can be humble all they want. Plaxico is our best chance…It better be now… the JETS don’t need another Roy Williams fiasco.
Don’t expect to see EITHER Anquan or Plaxico wearing the green and white. Aquan isn’t leaving AZ and Plax is headed to jail. I’m already calling Dez Bryant in next year’s draft to the Jets.
Plax isn’t going to Jail. You guys dont realize how good these Stars Lawyers are. Since my time living I have known Stars to get away with Murder and have had more evidence agaisnt them than Plax.
for the record Im not counting OJ even though he is a good example…
Dez Bryant would be an awesome pick up for the jets in next years draft however, i do believe he may possibly be a Top 12 pick; And as a jets fan keeping his fingers crossed…….We may not have a Top 12 pick
