I don’t know how to say this more effectively, but Jane McManus got one of the greatest soundbites from a Jets player in five years, listen to it yourself on her blog.
“[Opponents] don’t know and we don’t know … and that’s the beauty of the whole thing. We don’t know what the hell we’re doing so how the hell they gonna know what the hell we’re doing? … We just make stuff up on the fly … it’s like it’s open to interpretation.”
Scott went on to detail this more fully, by explaining that there’s flexibility to swap duties in the defense (as long as all the jobs get done, we hope) and that players can change assignments, blitzers can swap with coverage guys, one zone or coverage responsibility can be traded for another. It all sounds very exciting, but also very confusing.
Somewhere in Berea, OH I imagine Eric Mangini in an office — barricaded with trainers tables — reacting to this quip from Scott and either having a very good chuckle or sobbing uncontrollably in a shower — the latter the more likely of the two in my mind.
Whatever the changes, it’s not like players weren’t blowing assignments all the time in Mangini’s defense anyway, now they can just swap blown assignments rather than be rigidly held to their own blown assignments. Kidding!!

GHOLSTON PLEASE THRIVE IN THIS SYSTEM!!!!

I think Bart is getting tired of answering the same questions over and over again about the Defense. Swagger, controlled violence, a swarming pack of rabid animals, etc etc. I am not sure how he does it every day at camp.
A little tongue in cheek if you ask me, saying “we don’t know what we’re doing out there.” Meaning, hey, you never know, and QBs better be on alert. We’re coming to get you. -
I hope Scott is more than just a mouth in his first year with gang green. I can’t help but think of Joey Porter in his first year with Miami. I’m crossing my fingers that Rex’s system will allow Scott’s talents to be utilized right away.

Bart Scott being quoted, I wonder what it’s a response to. Nobody can say bad about Ryan’s scheme; they jacked-up virtually everybody. Imean this team can do so much, considering an upcoming corner in Lowery… and with the rest, c’mon. Other than Bryan Thomas, those guys at LB can fly around. Somebody said something insulting.

Just for the record….if you are JETS fan you have to admit certain honest things about. As New York fans, the country knows were not stupid. For Porter Cam Cameron’s scheme didn’t utilize Portr the right like Parcells and Labeau. Then Camron gets bailed out by Baltimore, with his “redemption”, just riding along with Baltimore. His smile and joy was just sickening to see. He was overrated…definitely no Bill Parcells..look what he does to teams.

Drafting Ted Ginn…hahaha

… Breaking news! Favre to go under the knife in hopes he will be under center and in the dome – Minnesota – as a Viking,
-
Another thing, Jason Taylor came back after he saw what they can do…be a dangerous team…..that’s how it was some years before.

I want Vilma back! I think he would totally return to form in this type of D. Logistically, it’s not happening, but still….he’d be great in this D.

BART SCOTT is an ANIMAL!!

Bassett:
What’s with the obsession with Mangini. Just for the record, don’t forget that, at one time, our D was like 5th in in the league and 2nd in sacks. And thats with a guy named SUTTON !!.
Nobody has played a down yet and remember that this year he also has a Ryan, Rob Ryan, and hopefuly we may have to face him. -
He sounds like the Joker in the Dark Knight.
“You know what I am? I’m a dog chasing cars. I wouldn’t know what to do with one if I caught it. You know, I just… do things. The mob has plans, the cops have plans, Gordon’s got plans. You know, they’re schemers. Schemers trying to control their little worlds. I’m not a schemer.
…Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. I’m an agent of chaos. Oh, and you know the thing about chaos? It’s fair!”
As a matter of fact, I think we may need a photoshop genius to put the Joker’s face paint on Bart Scott.

I can just see Bart Scott saying, “…What until they get a load of me…”

“[Opponents] don’t know and we don’t know … and that’s the beauty of the whole thing. We don’t know what the hell we’re doing so how the hell they gonna know what the hell we’re doing? … We just make stuff up on the fly … it’s like it’s open to interpretation.”

i complained about the assignment swaps last season. i felt that players should of been in different positions on sertain plays but looked robotic every down. Wanted to see Jenkins outside or Ellis in on some downs. its all about felling you have a better angle veiw or what have you and getting in position. Safties can become corners and corners safties.
