MNF Announces Personnel Change
There was a time when some folks truly believed that Tony Kornheiser would save Monday Night Football … those times are now past.
Kornheiser has announced that he will leave the MNF booth and focus on other projects, like PTI, where I feel he’s more in his natural element. While I won’t miss his “my dog throws harder than Chad Pennington” or stories about terrible Dunkin Donuts in Rehoboth Beach, I’ll miss the attempt that ESPN made with bringing Kornheiser into the fold. It was a re-Miller-ing of MNF, with a sports journo twist, but it just never seemed to work out … ah well.
Replacing TK in the booth will be Chucky himself, an interesting choice but obviously going away from the “outsider” motif. Jon Gruden will be pairing with Mike Tirico and Ron Jaworski the other two announcers from last year. The Jets will be on MNF just once this season, Week 5 away against the Miami Dolphins.

Thank god this guy is gone. He is bearable on Pardoned The Interruption, but he gets way too carried away on Monday Night Football. I remember watching the Jets-Chargers last year, and Kornholio wouldn’t stop berating the Jets and running them down. If he has an opinion, fine, but he doesn’t need to work it into every single sentence.

Good riddance. Maybe I’ll be able to watch the game for more than five minutes without having to hit the mute button. (Maybe — Chucky could end up being even more insufferable, and without the self-deprecation.)
I like Korny on PTI..
but in the MNF booth, not so much..

Kornheiser was def a duesh, but no one beats Paul Mcguire! I hated watching a sunday night game with him and Theisman..double whammy!
I think my dog could have been a better broadcaster than Kornheiser. Besides that my dog is better looking and smarter. Hope we never see you again Kornboy!

Kornhole was a liberal version of conservative a-hole Miller; neither had a sense of humor, compassion or common sense and both ended up with hoof in mouth disease.
On the other hand, I loved McGuire. He was a respectable player for a team that won AFL Championships. I always felt he had and gave the players point of view. And he loved to laugh and have a good time; in his day, he could’ve be a player for D-Rex. I miss him and don’t watch college ball so he’s not “ruining” that for me. Also, he always put motor-mouth Theisman in his place; you gotta love Paul for that if for nothing else.
I still do not understand why and how so many of these guys have these great jobs. I guess there must be a lot of as.. kissing.

I love Kornheiser on PTI, but he just wasn’t right for MNF. He really didn’t have a purpose, and the die-hard football fans couldn’t stand the fact that he wasn’t a football guy. Tony was better this year around than in previous years but still really wasn’t worth keeping in the booth, because he contributed next to nothing. Overall, MNF should keep getting better. This year was better with the removal of the irritating booth interviews. Next year should be even better with Kornheiser leaving and the lack of Emmit Smith (yeah, he’s only on the pre/postgame show, but still).
As for Chucky, my guess is he won’t be there long since he wants to coach, but he should be interesting. He’s crazy, and now Jaws and Tirico can make joke about how he changed QBs every 2 weeks in Tampa. I think he’ll fit in as long as he doesn’t drop F-bombs on TV or some other four-letter words.
No great loss. Chucky has much more knowledge of the league and gets pumped up about the game. I think he will do a good job.
Awesome. I always hated that jerk. Almost as much as I hated Dennis Miller as an announcer. I don’t get the appeal of the outsider announcer. I don’t need someone who doesn’t know that much about the game to make stupid comments. I want guys who’ve been there and can give me info I might not already know – something kornheiser never did or could. I hope Gruden is good, he has to be better just by virtue of his experiences.
thank the lord… the guy is a MORON… That Jets MNF game Mangini’s first year he kept saying “this team may be 9-6 but nobody can name 5 players on the team” No Tony, you can’t, which is sad since you do it for a living! I hate him
Tony is great on PTI but never got it going on MNF. He bored me on Monday nights…… I am a little suprised by Gruden though. He did a nice job on NFL Network and was pretty funny overall but seems out of place not being on the sidelines

I remember during one MNF game when the Jets played, Kornhole said even his daughter could catch a Chad Pennington pass, the funny thing is maybe his daughter could, but Tony definetely couldn’t!

1. Absolutely estatic that Kornheiser is off MNF
or
2. Sorry to see him off MNF.
Predication…. 95%+ will be absolutely delighted that he is gone.
Chucky to replace Kornheiser? This is like replacing the jambalaya with boiled boneless chicken cutlet. Say what you want about Kornheiser, at least he was entertaining. And I like Gruden, but I appreciate his coaching prowess, not necessarily his personality, and Jaws already does the former footballer analysis. I’m surprised but this choice, although I’m not surprised Tony left.
Regardless of your opinions, let’s all just thank a higher power that some douche like Michael Irvin or Shannon Sharpe didn’t bumble their way into it.
JOHN GRUDEN!?…..OVER TONY KORNHEISER!!???….I agree TONY wasnt the BEST announcer EVER(i LOVE PTI tho) he is TEN TIMES BETTER than JOHN GRUDEN will be…….HORRIBLE replacement.
he was terrible, i am not sorry to see him go. the way he would beat a non-issue into the ground was remarkable, often times tiriko or jaws would literally have to cut him off he was so annoying. the one thing he was supossed to bring to the table was writing essays or “looking closer” pieces on random parts of the story lines, but he couldnt even manage to do this
the reason why gruden is an upgrade, is that its a sign the focus is on football, not pop culture, movies, etc. recently, MNF has gotten away from the most important aspect of the telecast – the game itself
