We have to qualitity de but its the backups that worry me. That is where ghoulston and pace come into play. Rex really gota concentrate on our front seven for the whole year. He has to bring more pressure off the edge. Easier said then done though. On defense its really all on ghoulston and pace if they start flying we are unstoppable.

RKNYC,

I think they have to worry about our depth on both lines. I still don't know if they have two quality starting DE's.

As for the 31st offense in the league you might want to check what we lost from last year. We lost LC (70 rec, 850 yds), Chris baker(21 rec, 194 yds) and brett favre who was awful. The jets last year were ranked 9th in points, 16th in yds, 16th pass yds, and 9th in rush yds. I just dont see LC, Brett, and baker as that good of players to have earned us those numbers themselves.

Good post Harvlis.

I suspect if Plax is on the team suddenly the numbers make us the top 4 offense?

Indy went from 4 to 25th because their starting line was messed up and they lost Addai.

I am more afraid of injuries than I am of any teams now.

If someone goes down at any position do we have the players to come in and keep us competitive?

With all the people sayin how bad we are I cant wait for the season. Lead the nfl in pro bowlers last year and all but one maybe two(TJ) are returning. On top of that we added another three pro bowlers in the like of Lito, izzo, and scott. So let the talkers talk and the haters hate but im just excited for some football.

Ramble,

The NFL season is like the Kentucky Derby. Lots of competitors bumping and grinding to hit the finish line first. Their are hundreds of factors that come into play during the race (season). In the end, if the rail opens up and if you have a good jockey, you might just sneak up on the field and come in first.

Don't think that any team has a better chance to win the Super Bowl than us. No matter what team you think will win it -- everything has to fall into place for that team to win.

Look at last year. After the Tennessee game, we were 8-3, we had just beat an undefeated team at their house, and both the O and the D were clicking. We were on a roll and then -- the rug was pulled out from under us. Farve was hurting and not telling any one. Jenks, the same. The coaching staff fell off the table. If those two players stay healthy and, if we continued to improve off the Tennessee game -- we had just as good a shot as anyone, to win it all.

We are better, this year. Better coach, better Defense, OL having played together for a full year, two young, hungry QB's, OC with something to prove, Don't bet against us, yet. Who knows, we may get Plax?

by nfl standards the jets ranked 16th in offense and 16th on defense......9th most points scored........the last 5 games really brought the jets into those averages because they were a completely different team before that........at one point the number 2 scoring offense in the league.....and that was pretty late in the year..........but i will say that i was surprised that those predictions weree that close......good job shutting me up..haha

dade,

Here they are: http://footballoutsiders.com/dvoa-ratings/2008/2008-dvoa-projections

The Jets were projected to have the 20th best offense and 17th best defense in the NFL. In the end, they finished with the 19th ranked offense and the 16th ranked defense.

The Jets played more or less exactly as they were expected to.

Harvlis,

I love you buddy! You hit the nail on the head. Nobody knows what the hell is gonna happen. As Bill Parcells used to say "you're only as good as your record says you are" so by that definition we're 9-7 and decent. Not what seanmac and FO says we are, but decent. Do I think we're going to the SB this year? No, but I think we'll be competitive and thats all I ask for. But, I do see a successful future for the Jets because of Rex and Sanchez.
