Link: Broadway Joe Speaks on Sanchez
Rich Cimini of the Daily News had a chance to speak with Joe Willie recently to get his perspective on Mark Sanchez and how the season could play out for the rookie.
On how Sanchez will do as a rookie: “I’m especially excited because the team has improved and they will be better…And as recent history shows in both Atlanta and Baltimore, if you have a good team, a young man can take control on the field and steer it in the right direction. But it depends on the team (as far as) how well Mark is going to do.”
On Sanchez having a magnetic personality and becoming a star in New York like Broadway Joe: “I would like to see us win a championship this season,” said Namath, who was also asked for his autograph by Jets FB Tony Richardson. “I’m a fan. There are a lot of Jets fans, for a while, backing the team and would like to see a (Super Bowl) win.”
“(Sanchez’s success) is going to depend on how the team (does) and all of us are pulling for him.”

Confidence and optimism are going to be what drives the 2009 season. I’m not too fond of using the Ravens and Falcons success with rookie QBs as a barometer, but it’s really all we have to go on at this juncture.
I’m prepared for bumps and bruises, just like most fans should be. But it’s tough not to feel inspired by Ryan’s dedication to winning. It’s no longer about the process… only about getting things done. Everything else comes second.

Its good that Broadway Joe put the stamp on Sanchez. Couldnt make me happier. Its so funny how great he read the Mangini regime, he hated that fool and for good reasons.
I think current players have a LOT to learn from the SB team. The coaches need to let Namath adn Maynard speak to the players, give them a pep talk, especially when we have a very young nucleus.
